In this episode of The Lunchtime Series with Kevin Britz, guest Pete Mohr, founder of Simplifying Entrepreneurship and host of the Business Owner Breakthrough podcast, discusses the importance of preparing a business for exit and why every business owner should care. With over 30 years of experience in transforming businesses, Pete emphasises that a business should support the life an owner wants to live, not the other way around.Pete introduces his 5P Structure — Promise, Product, Process, People, and Profit — as the foundation for building a business that can operate independently and attract buyers when the owner is ready to exit. He highlights that a business ready for exit is also well-positioned for growth, resilience, and owner freedom.Key points include: • Exit readiness is essential because 50% of businesses are sold under distressing circumstances such as illness, divorce, or partnership disputes. • Owners must consider whether they have built a business or merely created a job for themselves. • Systematising operations, delegating decisions to the lowest levels, and ensuring team alignment are critical for building a sellable business. • Pete stresses the importance of personal readiness for exit, not just financial and operational readiness, as many owners struggle with the emotional aspect of stepping away. • The CMA framework — Communication, Management, Accountability — is essential for business leadership, with simple structures making it easier to implement.Pete shares a success story of helping a business owner transform their musical instrument business into an internationally recognised brand with streamlined operations, illustrating the tangible benefits of exit readiness. His advice to business owners is to take time to reflect on where they want their business to go, write down their goals, and start implementing structures to build value and ensure long-term success. For more insights, Pete's book Business Owner Breakthrough is available on Amazon, and he encourages owners to assess their business's readiness through his value-building system.Connect with Peter:Website: https://pete-mohr.com/Email: Peter@simplifyingentrepreneurship.comConnect with Kevin:Learn more at www.kevinbritz.comhttps://www.kevinbritz.com/book/LinkedIn: https://www.linkedin.com/in/kevinbritz-leadership/Linktree: https://linktr.ee/kevinbritz

While the reality is grim, there's hope through informed choices and supporting organizations striving for change. We also investigate the flourishing field of aquaculture, its effects, and the possibility of vegan alternatives. Regardless of your current lifestyle, this episode is a thought-provoking examination of how we can align our food choices with our ethical beliefs for a healthier, more sustainable future. Join us on this enlightening journey—it might just change the way you think about your plate. Peter Singer is an Australian ethical and political philosopher best known for his work in bioethics and his role as one of the intellectual founders of the modern animal rights movement. He is the author of Animal Liberation, the 1975 classic credited with triggering the modern animal rights movement. What we discuss: (0:00:07) - Animal Liberation and Sustainable Living (0:11:47) - Factory Farming's Impact on Environment & Society (0:20:43) - Meat, Ethics, and Climate Change (0:27:04) - Ethics and Bioethics (0:33:34) - Factory Farming and Ethical Choices (0:46:40) - Christian Views on Animal Dominion, Aquaculture Concerns Key takeaways: The reason why we eat meat is because we evolved with a taste for high density food. From most of our evolutionary history, we had a struggle to get enough food to be healthy, to thrive, to be active and to reproduce and bring up our children. So we developed a taste for meat in particular because it is a high density food and if you could catch and kill a large animal and eat it, then you were meeting your nutritional needs for some time. We still have this taste for meat because evolution works slowly and it doesn't take account of the fact that now we can walk into a supermarket and choose for a wide variety of foods, including nourishing ourselves very well by plant based foods. We are price conscious, hence why factory farming is a real thing. Factory farming is the combination of the idea that we want animal products, that we'd like to eat them and we want them as cheaply as possible. And factory farming has developed over roughly the past century to produce these foods more cheaply, to apply technology to them, to apply basically industrial production processes to them, standardizing things, getting cheap labor. This has created a disaster of a situation for the animals, for the climate, and for our own health. Factory farming causes harm to local people too. Anybody who lives near a factory farm knows that they're terrible neighbors. For one thing, when the wind blows to you from them, the manure smell is awful. They also attract millions of flies which are around your place and of course they also pollute the water around. It also runs when there's unusual rainfall. It runs into the rivers, kills thousands of fish, makes the rivers unswimable. Peter Alexander is an entrepreneur who's been living and doing business in Shanghai, China for nearly 30 years. He reached out to me recently after hearing one of the ‘Macro Hang' episodes, where we briefly touched on the subject of China, and in which I suggested that we should be careful not to oversimplify the differences between China and ‘The West' / US, especially in terms of economic 'model'. Peter agrees, and feels that the economic and social circumstance in China are, broadly speaking, being misrepresented, or at the very least lacking important nuance, by commentators in the bitcoin space (and beyond), and as a result contacted me to see if I'd be open to hearing a more informed and experienced perspective on it. Of course I was interested, so we set up a chat. In this episode I've pulled together insights from four powerhouse networkers, and each of them is an expert in creating value and building relationships. What they share will make sure you grow your network powerfully and authentically, so that your business or career prospers and you make some great friends along the way. Devora Zack has carved out a reputation as a networking guru, and what she has to share about authentic networking is valid whether you're doing it online or eyeball to eyeball. She's been featured in many publications and media such as the Wall Street Journal, Forbes, USA Today, Women's Health and Fast Company - to name but a few! Stefan Thomas believes that putting effort into building and sustaining relationships at scale, over time, has benefits for every person, whether they own their own business, work for a company, or do a mixture of both. The trouble is that as Stefan says: “What most people think networking is, and what it actually is, are two very different things.” Peter Beaumont has led the marketing teams for some of the most iconic global brands, in a career spanning over 80 countries. In that time he figured out the secret to managing and building strategic business relationships, and now he speaks and consults with other companies using his six step process to help them develop more powerful connections and take things to the next level. Brandon Fong learned lessons at a young age from his parents that enabled him to master three of the most important skills that an entrepreneur needs for success. At 22 using those skills he made a connection that would change his life. He has continued to build on those skills and today he is on the journey to his own seven figure business and is helping entrepreneurs use his ‘Magic Connection' method to develop relationships that will change their lives too. Enjoy! What you'll discover: Devora: Four great tips for getting the most out of a networking event. Why you should follow up and what to consider in your follow-up to increase the chances of them saying yes. How to avoid the traps that damage rapport. Addressing the balance of speaking and listening in networking conversations. Stefan: Whether you should always agree to 121 follow ups. Getting the balance right in 121 conversations between asking versus telling. Why you should take advantage of longer speaking slots in networking meetings. Why storytelling is important for successful networking and marketing. Peter: How to define the key relationships you need to influence and develop. The important ingredients for developing strategic partnerships. How you know if you're doing ‘human to human' business relationships right. Brandon: The ‘Ikea effect' and how you can use this principle to add value to people who are more successful than you. The slipstream technique and how you can use it to accelerate your success. Brandon's ‘Magic Connection' method and the three ingredients for success. The benefits of ‘no' oriented questions and how to use them. What an honor (and what great timing) to have Peter Crone—the Mind Architect himself—on the show for my final conversation of 2021. This was such an engaging and enjoyable conversation! We delve into the nature of language and the subconscious, how to tackle things like anxiety, and some of the strategies Peter has used to help athletes with the same. Peter Crone is a thought leader in human potential and performance as well as an Ayurveda practitioner and the Founder/Chief Inspirer of Be Alive, Inc. Peter devotes his life to sharing deep insights, distinctions, and strategies for people to live an inspired life and thrive by awakening new levels of awareness that transcend old and limiting mental constructs. He helps reveal the subconscious narratives that drive behavior, and ultimately all results, and he uses the wisdom of Ayurveda to help people find balance through diet and lifestyle. Whilst most people go through life as prisoners of their own mind, Peter helps dissolve the mental shackles that hold us back so that we can experience true freedom and discover an entirely new experience of being human. Peter has worked with numerous VIPs in the entertainment industry, more than 200 professional athletes across multiple sports, as well as leaders of global organizations. He is committed to sharing his pioneering mental constructs that inspire the realization of a new type of existence that shifts from a life of stressful surviving to one of joyful thriving. Chappy kicks things off by offering a perspective shift by bringing up his wholehearted belief that “your worst day out on the street is a hundred times better than your best day in prison.”“To get a different perspective,” he continues, “you've got to look at somebody who has a worse situation than you.”Chappy goes on to share how he had to rewire his brain the second he was released from prison. He talks about all the people around him who had to remind him that, in the real world, threatening others, asserting your dominance, and everything else that was acceptable—expected, even—in the prison yard is completely off-limits outside those walls.Taylor and Chappy close out the show with a discussion on making an impact. With a little faith, a focus on keeping things in perspective, and constantly reminding yourself that everyone has a purpose, seemingly insignificant decisions will result in a life full of blessings not only for you, but for everyone that you touch.Topics Discussed: Taylor's backgroundLessons about bouncing back that Taylor learned from the podcastWhat Chappy told himself when he was sent to prison at the age of 18What Chappy would tell someone on their first and last day in prisonWhy Chappy was so calm when he was convictedChappy's ultimate goal in his life's “third act”Getting through solitary confinementChappy's last year in prisonAdjusting to life fresh out of prisonHow Chappy manages his angerHow to raise your self-confidenceChappy's prison workoutsMaking an impact after prisonConnect with Guest: Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/dr.brutefit/Connect with Peter:Website: https://petermeyerhoff.com/ Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/peter_meyerhoff/ Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/people/Peter-Meyerhoff/100008245219126/TikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@theoriginalchappy?lang=enYouTube: https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCpa6ABvtPcSSwM2LJvuLv0wKey Quotes:Fitness can not only build your self-confidence, but also relieve stress and make you not do stupid things or say mean things because, by the time I'm done doing cardio, I'm ready for a nap. ~ChappyYour worst day out on the street is a hundred times better than your best day in prison. ~ChappyWhatever [your] situation is, that problem is miniscule compared to what you can accomplish if you literally just wake up and you're thankful. ~TaylorTo get a different perspective, you've got to look at somebody who has a worse situation than you. ~ChappyEverybody's got a purpose in this world and everybody's good at something. ~Chappy
When you meander your way through your days because you're not really sure what you want out of life those days will quickly become weeks, then months and then years. We all know that this is no way to live. Life is meant to be enjoyed and to do that you need to make deliberate decisions. That's what today's show is all about. Today on the show Peter shares his story. Coming from humble beginnings Peter quickly found his feet in his trade and before too long had his own business and was on his way. But on his way to where? And that right there was the problem. The lack of proper mentors and guides meant that there was no real target to aim at and when you shoot at everything you end up hitting nothing. As this podcast evolves and plays out you'll hear Peter share a very personal story. Jamie, myself and all of our audience thank him for being so vulnerable and sharing what he went through. Make sure you stay with today's podcast right to the very end because Peter's story is one of triumph, breakthrough and ultimately redemption. Over the past 20 years, he has opened over 100 schools and acquired more than 25 others. His experience in education spans president and CEO roles of organizations in the private school, charter school, and early education industries. He also served as a public school board member in his local community for 5 years. Pete is currently the founder and CEO of Fusion Education Group. Launched in 2007, the company made five acquisitions in its first two years. The last acquisition in December, 2008 was the original Fusion Academy campus. Within a few years, the company determined that Fusion’s unique model and high growth potential made it a significant growth opportunity. Thus, the company sold off its non-Fusion schools in order to focus entirely on the national expansion of the Fusion Academy model. Today, there are more than 60 Fusion campuses in operation around the nation. In 2019, the company acquired Futures Academy, another one-to one school model with 16 locations in the state of California. In 2020, the company launched Fusion Global Academy (FGA), a one-to-one virtual school that provides 100% live instruction in every class. FGA serves on-line students throughout the United States and internationally. Today, Fusion Education Group, headquartered in Grand Rapids, Michigan, operates more than 75 Fusion and Futures Academies across 16 states and District of Columbia. All Fusion Academies, Futures Academies and FGA provide completely individualized programs based on the needs of each student. Virtually all classes are taught in a one-to-one environment: one student, one teacher. Fusion Education offers programs for 6-12 grade students. Ruppert started his career with Procter and Gamble. He entered the education industry when he was hired as president of National Heritage Academies in May, 1997. During his eight years as president of NHA, Ruppert led the expansion of the company from four schools to 51 schools across five states. Pete holds a BA in Economics from DePauw University and an MBA from the Harvard Business School. He grew up in Cincinnati, Ohio. Most Speakers who teach have not done it for themselves...and most Entrepreneurs don’t know how to speak... Peter is the rare exception. He’s a thought-leader who has also accomplished big things. Peter bootstrapped his successful software company from an idea in 2008 to a multi-million dollar exit in 2018... without capital, investors or partners. Peter knows how to inspire people by tapping into their unique purposes. Peter is a truly fascinating and multi-faceted guy, with decades of experience in speaking to audiences about his business knowledge, inspirational journey, and human behavioral insight. Though Peter struggled through school with undiagnosed ADHD, he was admitted to and graduated from the University of California Irvine in Political Science. Post-college he became a traveling speaker and salesman, chalking up over 3000 presentations and living in over 22 major cities. Peter went on to found a successful advertising agency and software platform, dedicated to financial service professionals. He quickly became the industry guru, writing numerous books, including one of his best selling works “The Brand Called You”, “The Personal Branding Phenomenon” and his newest book “Leadership Power”. He now pursues his passion for humanity and the planet - he sincerely believes that all people and organizations have a special role in perpetuating the survival of our species, our civilization, and our planet. He speaks thoughtfully and passionately about the need for Transformational Leadership in today’s world. Meet Peter Yawitz Peter Yawitz is a management communication consultant helping individuals and groups at global companies communicate more effectively. His website someoneelsesdad.com has videos, an ask-dad column, and a podcast, giving tons of practical and humorous advice on how to manage life at work. His book, Flip-Flops & Microwaved Fish: Navigating the Dos & Don’ts of Workplace Culture, is full of advice and humor for young professionals and anyone else whose questions are rarely answered in the workplace. So let's talk about your book little bit. Why did you write it and who exactly is it for? It's for young professionals entering the workforce, but it's also for anyone who feels a little bit disenfranchised, going into a work and feeling they don't fit in. I just found that over the years people would start asking me questions that they were not getting answered from the HR department or of any kind of orientation session. And these were just things that no one had ever told them. And it could be something simple about, well, how do I construct an email? Or what should I do in the subject line? Or how does my tone come across? But then it got a little bit deeper. And people would say things like, well, what happens if you're talking to somebody at work? And that person is totally hot? Like, how do you focus? So let's talk about the young professionals right now. Gen Z is officially entering the workforce. How would you recommend they start building a network now that they're just starting out? So the first thing I would say to people who are starting out is chill, just chill a minute. I mean, it's nice to develop a network, but it's not necessarily the first thing you have to do when you start a job. Start your job and learn to do your job well and develop a little bit of credibility about what you do. And then once you've done that, then try to look for people just to get to know and to let people know what you're doing. I'm sure you've been leveraging the digital space a bit to grow your audience, what's been the most effective social medium for you? I say the most effective thing is hiring someone to do it for me. That's been the most important thing I would say. So I would rather provide content and have someone tell me where to put it or how to design it. So I know that I'm doing it in the best way. Can you share with our listeners, one of your most successful or favorite networking experiences that you've had? I've had a lot of success with my alumni network. Who from my college, who from my grad school is around? Who is doing something interesting or working for a company that I want to target that I should just contact. You never know where things are going to come from. I would just say, don't be afraid to be assertive about what you're looking for. And just be polite about how you're doing it. How do you stay in front of or best nurture your network community? I don't want to be so self promotional, I guess I'm more self promotional now because I've got a book to sell. So I will have a MailChimp list. So if there is an Ask Dad that I find interesting, I'll email it to those people. I also post on LinkedIn and use other social media. If it's interesting, I try not to jam it down people's throats, but I figure I'm only going to do something if it's a topic that I think a general population might be interested in. Between digital networking and traditional networking, which one do you find more value in digital or or just traditional? Definitely traditional. I think it's my generation. And I would rather have coffee with somebody and schedule an actual meeting because you get more done that way. But even if I'm trying to network with a junior person, or even let's say some of these young CEOs that I am trying to get on my podcasts, I will approach them first on email, but then I'd like to have a phone conversation. And if I can do something in person, I just find you develop relationships better. A lot of companies are really trying to embrace the work remote policies. So what is your opinion on that? I think it's wonderful that companies are flexible about at home time. And I've had a lot of comments from people whose workplaces have changed from offices, to cubicles and now total open plans. I think the downside of a total virtual network is that you miss that human interaction of even the small talk or the water cooler talk or just to get people to really sense of what you can do besides just basic tasks. Do you have any final words of advice to offer our listeners with regards to growing and supporting their network? I would, again, reiterate never be shy about this, people like connecting into networks and especially if there's a shared experience or shared people that it sort of gives you the imprimatur of acceptability. And that could be that you work at a certain place, or you worked in a certain industry or you went to a certain school, there are always some kind of shared affinity groups.
