But how many of us slow our bodies down enough to deal with it, rather than distract ourselves with constant technology, or even medication? Author and speaker Max Strom is on a mission to empower us to a more meaningful life by using our breath. He explores why anxiety is on the rise, how grief and disconnection is a big part of our experience, and how creating a practice of intentional breathing could transform our lives. Get in the Mud Family, It's SO good to be back! Buckle up, we're challenging narratives. I am beyond excited to share this episode with you. I had the pleasure of connecting with El Divine Niño, an Artist, Poet, Guide & Actor, and Podcaster who's passion is the human condition. In this conversation, we dive into the concept of narratives, the stories we tell ourselves (and others), and how they are keeping us stuck. If you are struggling, feeling disempowered, questioning, hurting, or have any desire to re-write your story, this episode is for YOU! "The meaning of El Divine Niño: the divine inner child exists belongs to you. According to the laws of karma the inner child reflects your unfulfilled desires, which compel you to reawaken to the rebirth of the present. El Niño is a manifestation of the collective unconscious, a testament to the potential You hold within- the divine child. Every one of us holds divinity and potential. However, it is locked within the inner child. Your life serves an opportunity to heal that child; unlocking your deepest potential, and transmuting the energy and emotions that once paralyzed you into a driving force for creativity & growth." In todays episode I talk to Max Strom, one of the pioneers in the Breathwork-World, who is teaching the method since a time before it was even a big trend. Before that he used to practice Qui Gong and also started Yoga (after his Girlfriend pushed him into a class) and after a while he found out, for himself and a lot of other people, that the key to inner peace was in the breath itself. So he dove deeper into the wisdom of how to transform lifes by using the breath. He is sharing his knowledge for 26 years as a speaker in three inspiring Ted talks, as an author with his two books „A life worth breathing“ and „There is no app for happiness“ and last but not least as a teacher in workshops, immersions and retreats worldwide and as well as several online courses and classes. In our conversation we touched these subjects: • How to find / recalibrate your purpose • His own Journey from being a screenplay writer, a musician to becoming a yoga- and breathwork-teacher • The role of breath for our personal transformatioin • Why crying is supports processing trauma • How we created a world / society that we actually can't live in • How social problems get „fixed“ with chemicals • Why abandoning our lifestyle as a tribe isn´t a good thing • The symptoms of panic attacks and anxiety and how to process them • Why recreating emotional intimacy helps in our relationships • Why it´s still difficult for men to show their emotions • Why suppressing emotions leads to the inability to feel • What each of us can do in our daily life to stay connected • How to learn to listen to our intuition Shownotes: Max Strom Official (for his Workshops, Retreats, Trainings, Coaching and more) Max Strom Instagram Max Strom TED TALK "Breathe to heal" Max Strom TED TALK "There is no app for happiness" ____ Follow GET WET SOON on Instagram Join us for our Jivamukti Surf & Yoga Retreat in Sri Lanka 2023 (March 19-26)

Meet Adi Strigl, resident Yoga Gnome in Doylestown, PA. This conversation is a real dance which all leads back to presence. Yoga found her again at the age of 23 and has been her anchor and sanctuary throughout life's adventures ever since. After serving as an officer in the Israeli army and traveling the world, she met her husband and settled in beautiful Bucks County, Pennsylvania, where they live happily with their 5 kids. (3 humans and 2 fur babies). Adi has accumulated many hours of yoga training with many inspiring yogis. Among them, Seane Corn, Rolf Gates, Amy Ippolity, Max Strom, Jillian Pransky, and more. She has completed a 200-hour certificate twice (because yoga is life), and a 300-hour certificate as well. Additionally, she holds a 95-hour children's yoga certificate with a trauma-informed lens, along with Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction background.

It will also set you free of worrying, overthinking, misunderstandings, and people having to guess what it is you truly want and need. Welcome to the Keen on Yoga Podcast with Max Strom. A 3x TEDx speaker, author, and global breathing teacher, known for teaching breathing patterns for personal transformation worldwide. Max developed a groundbreaking system of breathing techniques designed to alleviate crippling anxiety, depression, PTS and sleep problems. His field-tested method focuses on the causes rather than the symptoms and is known to produce rapid results. Max has had a career as a lead singer in his own band, and then a screenwriter. He was 38 when I took the first step on his path as a yoga teacher. Pushed into it by friends he was still very insecure as he taught his first few classes. He's come a long way since then as a speaker and teacher and he credits this to the inner work he has done. Through breathing techniques, meditation, inspiring spiritual teachers and writing, Max has reconnected with his inner child and learned how to give him the love and understanding that he so desperately needed. Max has now found his voice. From feeling like an odd and insignificant loner, he has found the teacher, leader, and the storyteller in himself. Sharing his personal stories with people from different cultures, religions and backgrounds creates understanding and connection. Ultimately, we’re not that different from each other. Max believes that when we learn to understand one another, we learn to understand ourselves. We are all teachers in our own way, and we all matter. We hope you enjoy the Keen on Yoga Podcast with Max Strom. You can find out more about him on his website.
Max's parents taught him not to express pain, to deal with it and keep going. It came at a high cost because, as a grown man, he did not know how to talk about feelings. Max felt like he was “living in a prison made with his own hands and heart”, and he was unable to get out until he discovered yoga. Soon he started a regular yoga practice that included high-level breathing. Slowly there was a big change happening that he had not bargained for. His relationships improved, he learned more about breathwork and psychology. Over time, it improved his level of emotional intimacy and connection with people. Max found his voice, the teacher and leader within, and developed two groundbreaking breathing methods: Breathe to Heal and Inner Axis. These techniques help you at home and work. Practicing breathwork in business is important because we're still human beings with emotions that manifest in our bodies. → Here's what you will learn: ● How breathing is a part of our communication ● How you deal with and heal repressed emotions ● Why power and status do not fulfill ● The importance of creating a product that makes the world a better place ● How doing the inner work can give your life more meaning ● How you can become a better leader ● Why breathwork exercises are important before meditation ● A gratitude visualization exercise that you can use as an antidote against anxiety and stress ✔ PRE-ORDER THE NEW FEMALE LEADER BOOK: https://partner.bol.com/click/click?p=2&t=url&s=1038972&f=TXL&url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.bol.com%2Fnl%2Ff%2Fnew-female-leader%2F9300000016554982%2F&name=New%20Female%20Leader%2C%20Caroline%20Glasbergen ⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯ ➤ SUBSCRIBE TO OUR CHANNEL https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCIocJbUSOXkV_lCWCwAOkKw?sub_confirmation=1 ⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯⋯ ➤ JOIN OUR MOVEMENT Website: www.newfemaleleaders.org Instagram: www.instagram.com/new.female.leaders LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/newfemaleleaders
This week on The Practice, Dr. Gail Parker—psychologist, educator, and author of Restorative Yoga for Ethnic and Race-Based Stress and Trauma—teaches a 9-Minute Guided Savasana for restful sleep. Often the most stressful parts of not being able to fall asleep is the stressful awareness that we are still awake, which makes the odds of drifting off even more elusive. “If you can't sleep, don't panic,” says Dr. Parker. “Getting into a Restorative Yoga pose not only evokes our nervous system's relaxation response and settles any agitation, but it can help us accept our current condition. Even if you can't sleep, you can always rest.” This guided Supported Savasana practice was designed to help you surrender and find peace in frustrating circumstances. For more practices like this and to join our 5-week virtual sleep summit with renowned teachers Dr. Gail Parker, Jillian Pransky, Lisa Sanfilippo, Pamela Stokes Eggleston, and Max Strom, visit yogajournal.com/courses.

Valerie Moselle explains how you have the power to regulate your nervous system, the importance of becoming more aware of your emotions—both good and bad—and how to improve your overall well-being with just your breath! In this episode, Cathy and Valerie discuss: What led Valerie to write her book about breathwork The impact of soothing, somatic practice on our sympathetic nervous system How to hack your nervous system by changing your breathing How our breath makes us more aware of our emotions by strengthening our psycho-emotional intelligence Recommendations for exercising your lungs to prepare for and manage an illness What a state of well-being really includes Advice for how to start a breathing practice An invitation to participate in a guided breathing practice Memorable Quotes: “When the nervous system is stimulated towards fight or flight, your breathing changes. But change your breathing and you can switch your nervous system response.” “Breathwork as a somatic practice, as an awareness practice, helps us to develop a sensitivity within the body to the complex array of sensations and emotions there that a child perhaps can’t tolerate, but an adult can become more aware of.” “The internal surface area of the lungs, where oxygen meets your capillaries there, is as big as a tennis court; because of lungs that don’t get used in a robust way, many of us don’t have access to that entire surface area…” “You have the breath with you everywhere and in all moments; from the moment you’re born until the moment you take your last breath.” Valerie Moselle is an advanced yoga teacher and founder of Luma Yoga, an award-winning yoga studio and wellness center in Santa Cruz, California. Ironically, its the International Day of Happiness and for some of us, that's the furthest from how we feel! I start this episode with a catch-up, sorry I haven't recorded anything for a while. You can fast-forward if you like but some of it is relevant to my podcast episode. I want to include a mini catch up at the start of each episode from now on. Diving into Imposter syndrome, I cover: What Imposter syndrome is. The effect that it has on us. Ten ways I have found helped me move on from it, into action and higher self-esteem. The sentence I learned from the entrepreneur Glen Carlson that changes EVERYTHING. Links to stuff I chat about and recommend: Fiit app - Introduced to me by my lovely friend Antonia, I particularly recommend the breathwork on the app. Find out more here The work of Max Strom - he does breathwork and he does yoga, start by watching this Ted Talk This crazy book by Miranda July - No one belongs here more than you Cal Newport's Talk and Book - highly recommend both! breathing exercises This past month I listened to a Ted Talk by Max Strom called Breathe to Heal. This Ted Talk had quite an impact on me and in a moment, I will tell you why. Max Strom is just as gentle and as kind as he is in his Ted Talk. I know, because I had an opportunity to meet him back in 2010 when I had a radio show called Returning to the Body Mind. My name is Melissa. I teach breathing and yoga, mostly restorative styles of yoga like yin yoga, sleep yoga and restorative yoga on my main channel. I am super lucky that the foundations of my yoga study included a lot of teaching on breathing. I will put a card to it up here to Max Strom’s Ted talk so you can watch it too. The reason why I am bringing up this talk so often, is because it changed the way I thought about anxiety. What Max said, is that when we repress emotions, and he was specifically talking about grief, it shows up as anxiety. This was a major aha moment for me. That anxiety, is a way that we hold our emotional life at bay. Breath is a gentle way that we can open to feeling. In August I am going to do a short video on what exercises are good for anxiety. I will also be doing a second on how we can change our breathing to support our digestion whether we are experiencing IBS, GERD, crohs, colitis, constipation, bloating, heartburn, and celiac disease, there are ways we can gently change our breath to support our digestion. One of the most popular videos on this channel is my video: How to grow taller with yoga. Because that video is so popular, I thought I would treat you all to a second video on the best yoga poses to grow taller. In that video I will pay special attention to your questions such as how often should I do these poses, for how long should I do these poses and how long will it take to see results. I am going to offer some of my best tips and tricks that I have used in the past in my yoga classrooms. I myself have always been amazed by the results. I used to see anywhere from half an inch to one and a half inch gains from my students with the exercises that I practiced with them. You are going to love this video. Finally I will share with you a video on how to improve your digestion with yoga. Again, I hope to explore a range of digestive issues from IBS, GERD, crohs, colitis, constipation, bloating, heartburn, and celiac disease. This month in August we will be taking a couple of weeks off to go camping. We have scheduled two weeks off in the middle of August. We are going to going back to Strathcona and heading over French Beach, Mystic Beach, Botanical Beach way. I will link to some of our past vlogs so you can see what beautiful places these are to visit! This month on the Yoga with Melissa Lifestyle channel we will be focusing on breathing exercises, the best yoga poses to grow taller, breathwork for digestion and how to improve your digestion with yoga. Let’s break all of that down a little bit more. On my main channel, Yoga with Melissa, I have been offering short 10 minute breathing exercises, belly breathing, or diaphragm breathing to help relieve anxiety. This month, I will answer the question, What breathing exercises are good for anxiety. I will also do a video talking about breathing for digestion. I hope to cover the full range of digestion from inflammatory digestion from crohns, colitis, IBS, to sluggish digestion like constipation. This will be in preparation for an in depth series that will be coming out in September 2019 in our membership community that focuses on digestion. Because of the popularity of the video, How to Grow Taller with Yoga https://youtu.be/NapJQwTlvI8 I will be releasing a video this month that will share the best yoga poses to grow taller. Finally we will close out the month with how to improve digestion with yoga. Again we will focus on a wide range of digestive issues from IBS, GERD, crohs, colitis, constipation, bloating, heartburn, and celiac disease.

Breathing In this video I am going to explain how we can sometimes unintentionally use our sympathetic nervous system (our fight or flight) to turn on our parasympathetic nervous system (our rest and digest) and ultimately why breathing calms us down. A couple of weeks ago I listened to an old Ted Talk by Max Strom called Breathe to Heal. I will put a card to it up here so you can watch it too, it is a pretty awesome talk. In this talk, what stood out most to me was his discussion about anxiety. What he was essentially saying is that when we repress emotions, and he was specifically talking about emotions, it shows up as anxiety. This was a major aha moment for me. That anxiety, is a way that we hold our emotional life at bay. When we breathe we can feel. It is just that we are terrified of our feelings. My name is Melissa. I teach breathing and yoga, mostly restorative styles of yoga like yin yoga, sleep yoga and restorative yoga on my main channel. I am super lucky that the foundations of my yoga study included a lot of teaching on breathing. This month I am answering your questions about breathing here and on my main channel I have a short, simple 10 min breathing exercise once a week. I would love to have you as a subscriber here and on my main channel as well. Why does breathing calm us down? Well let’s start with what happens when it doesn’t. When we are stressed and anxious we try to take in a deeper breath. My friend, Laura G Yoga has a podcast called Yoga Focus on Removing Restrictions to Find Essential Breath. This actually tends to be a willful upward pulling of energy that creates tension in the neck and shoulders, even though we are trying to draw in more breath to relax. It is a kind of compensatory pattern that ends up forcing and manipulating the breath into the top of the chest, rather than a downward pull of breath into the belly. This kind of breathing actually reduces the carbon dioxide in the blood, including the carotid artery going to the brain, which further reduces the flow of blood through the body. No matter how much oxygen we breathe into our lungs, our body will experience a shortage of oxygen. This lack of oxygen switches on the fight or flight reflex making us tense, anxious and irritable. It reduces our ability to think clearly and it turns us towards obsessive thinking. It is possible to turn on the parasympathetic nervous system, helping us to calm down, through our breath as well. We can do this by accessing certain cranial nerves, such as the vagus nerve that comes from the brain stem and also the ones that reside in our lower back region of our spine. The parasympathetic nerve ganglia do not run down the spine, but are actually located near the organs they influence. When we focus on that downward pull of breath with the diaphragm or lower belly breathing, it massages all the lower internal organs and lower back and stimulates the ganglia nerve in this area. So that downward pull of breath, with a relaxed lower belly, that opens to your breath in a natural way, creates impulses that come from those ganglia. They reduce heart rate, dilate blood vessels, increase digestive peristalsis (which means the involuntary constriction and relaxation of the muscles of the intestine, creating wave-like movements that push the contents of the canal forward), constrict air passages in the lungs and help the body to slow down and restore itself. Thank you for your calm breath. Namaste, Melissa Videos Referenced: Ted Talk: Max Strom Breathe to Heal Laura G: Essential Breath

"The yoga postures and breath are tools to rebuild and transform ourselves. The goal is not to tie ourselves in knots - we're already tied in knots. The aim is to untie the knots in our heart. The aim is to unite with the ultimate, loving, and peaceful power of the universe." ~ Max Strom This week we celebrate our 1 year anniversary of the Conversations to Connect podcast with our guest, Max Strom. Max is a teacher, speaker, author, and the creator of Inner Axis. Kristy had the opportunity to chat with Max while she was on a retreat with him in Italy this past June. It's Christmas Eve. And while Santa is making his way around the world to all the little boys & girls, this man-child is just wrapping up Episode 29 of The Yoga Life Podcast. I'm not here to preach, I don't have all the answers. I'm just sharing what happened to me in 2018, what I learnt and hopefully it resonates with you and you find value in it. I take you through all noteworthy events in every month of the year and not all of them are 'highlights'. Overview: January - Starting teaching a new class in Elbowroom, cool as I did my 200 hour there, started teaching more workshops. February - Trip to India. From the polluted metropolis of Kolkata to the pristine beach of Goa. March - Recording the first episode (Episode 0!) of TYLP & my Bryce 300 Teacher Training starts (Episode 1) April - Started climbing, training at 10th PLanet Jiu Jitsu & was told that I'd be teaching at Wellfest. May - Sunny Days were here, down at the Pheonix park, sea swimming with the Happy Pear and TYLP officially launched. Taught yoga in Park with Happenings for the first time & taught at Wellfest. June - A month I'd rather forget as I broke up with my girlfriend (well, she broke up with me, more accurately!) But all was not lost in June. At the end of the month, I started my Yin 50hr TT with Josh Summers. Couldn't of come at a better time as I needed to heal. I became more reflective and compassionate, started thinking about how yoga could be a vehicle to heal others. I posted on IG about my intention to start workshops for men in aid of suicide prevention. July - Bounced back and got on the mat... the Jiu-Jitsu mat. August - Started my Bryce 300 TT Part 2 (the second half of the 300 hours). Listen to https://kevinboyleyoga.ie/episode-1 (Episode 12) for all deets. September - Shot a mini-movie about my yoga journey. It was a bit awkward, to be honest as I was, essentially, 'acting'. The short film should be out early 2019, so check my highlights on IG if you're listening from the future. October - Hosted my first Yoga For Men workshop with Lululemon and started teaching at Samadhi. Had my first ever student walk out (not at Samadhi!), visited an Eco Village on the October bank holiday weekend. Loneliness has been a issue for me in recent years, I felt and sometimes do feel a lack of community in my Dublin suburb. The Eco-Village was incredible but the biggest question is: how would I make a living if I lived there? The answer is: I wouldn't or I could but it would involve commuting to Dublin every day 2 hours each way. So that was, is, and will likely stay, a deal breaker. November - Shadowed/taught at Samadhi TT and went to London to the Max Strom Calibrated Man workshop. December - Hosted my second Yoga For Men workshop and smashed the fund raising goal of €500, which goes directly to pay for suicide prevention councillors/therapists in Ireland. This is a direction I want to explore. Learning and sharing more about yoga philosophy, not just the asana. I'm gaining confidence that I have more to share than just how to gain physical strength. What I learned: Get comfortable with being uncomfortable. If you're not uncomfortable often, you can't grow. Change your practice, class, teach workshops, events, or simply offer to speak. Tell your story. No one will tell your story better than you. You have your own publicist in your pocket, your smartphone. Know your worth. Don't idolise people too much. Be respectful but don't kiss their backside or self deprecate, ever. They'll respect you more if you speak to them like a peer but be humble & polite, obviously. Learn when to say ‘no' Ask - a close mouth don't get fed. Specialise, stick to what your good at. I'm not a gymnast, not naturally flexible. But I'm an good communicator. Therefore, I podcast as opposed to doing 'flow' time lapses or demos vids. Have mentors or role models. For me, this would include Max Strom, Dice Iida-Klein and Adam Husler. Support this podcast
'We have everything we need, except happiness'. I became an instant fan of Max's when I listened to his exceptional book 'A Life Worth Breathing'. Each time I listen to it, I learn something new. Recently, I joined Max at Triyoga for his workshop The Calibrated Man. Max has clearly seen a need for men to learn more about each other and themselves. This subject fascinates me and in this episode of The Yoga Life Podcast, we delve a little deeper into understanding what drives men, why we need women so much for emotional support and why so many of us can sometimes feel lost in modern society. This episode is an eye-opener for both (all) genders. Enjoy! We can do more with our lives. We all know it, we all wish for it, but just how to do it—that eludes us. As one man describes his life, “In the morning I can't wake up, in the day I am bored, in the evening I am tired, and at night I can't sleep.” Even if we want to change, we're not sure which path to take, and if we do find our way, we are usually too emotionally wounded, physically unhealthy, or mentally stressed to take the steps we know would transform our desperate life into a meaningful one. Many of us long to change this troubled world, but the one thing we have the most influence over is the person looking back at us in the mirror every morning. We live in fear of terrorism, but in actuality, the most devastating terrorism comes from within as we continue to sabotage ourselves. A neglected body, chaotic mind, or wounded heart will prevent us from fulfilling our destiny as much as any outside enemy. We all know that we deserve and are meant to live an inspired life that rises above mere existence, today's guest shares some ways we can live the life we have always known we can live, a life with meaning, a life full of love, a life worth breathing. We welcome global speaker, teacher, and author who acts as a bridge to connect people with their inner axis and thereby build better relationships with others, Max Strom We discuss: The power of breathing Letting go of anger Gratitude (including 3 min exercise) Fear of death Resilience in children Overwork Work addiction and much more More about Max here https://maxstrom.com/ Breathe to heal Tex Talk: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Lb5L-VEm34

Max Strom As a yoga teacher, Max Strom saw the powerful effects that really using our breath can have. He’s now teaching the benefits to others, including doctors. Breathwork, he says, can release long-held emotions such as fear and grief. The way we breathe is connected to how we communicate and what we feel. In an age when we’re seeing more and more people suffer with anxiety and stress, he believes that cultivating simple methods of really using our breath can transform our lives. And he demonstrates an exercise for us that we can all try.

Erica began practicing yoga when she was 15 years old as a way to help heal her scoliosis and avoid surgery. The deep connection she found with the yoga tradition and the transformations she witnessed in her body, heart and life have made her a yogini for life. Erica has a strong desire to share her knowledge and love of yoga with others as well as continually build her knowlegde and love of the practice within herself. Her classes focus on breath, movement, and awareness of the present moment which sets the foundation for her students to rediscover their inner brightness, and peace of heart. Patrick grew up in Colorado and has always had a love for being active, and engaged in life. However at the young age of 28 his active lifestyle was brought to a screaming halt by chronic fatigue. After spending over 200K on doctors without help he was frustrated. This was the wake up call he needed to step outside of his daily grind, and he made it his mission to do everything possible to heal himself. He found himself drawn to the teachings and practice of yoga, as well as the innovations of modern science. Through healing himself and finding his own balance Patrick was left feeling empty by his corporate America lifestyle and decided to pursue a life of fulfillment by helping others create health and balance in their own lives. His classes focus on having fun, letting go of self doubt, and strengthening our bodies so that they may express their optimal level of human potential.
