John Wooden once said "Make friendship a fine art." If that is the case then Rex Sharp is Michelangelo. It has never been about where he has been or the athletic training facilities he has designed while at those schools, or the committees he has lead or been on, or the Hall of Fames that he is currently in. It has been about the people he has come in contact with over his 45 year career as an athletic trainer and how he can help them. That career started as a student athletic trainer at New Albany High School, New Albany, IN under NATA HOF member Jerry Bell and Don Ogle. Then in 1975 Rex made the trip to Muncie, IN to attend Ball State University. While at Ball State he won the National Athletic Trainers' Association Robert H. Gunn Scholarship for the nation's outstanding student athletic trainer in 1978. After graduation from Ball State he took a teaching job/athletic trainer at his high school alma mater in New Albany. After two years he decided attend graduate school. His uncle Randy Owsley was the head athletic trainer at Michigan Tech, a NCAA division II school in Houghton, MI. Rex decided to take the offer from Randy and spend 2 years in the upper peninsula getting his master's degree and ton of experience on his own. Next he was on to at the time was Northeast Missouri State, now Truman State. He was the first athletic trainer there and grew the program into a new athletic training facility and two GA athletic trainers. Then a phone call from Jim Dickerson changed the trajectory of his career. Ball State needed a Head Athletic Trainer and they were calling on Rex to lead the program back to prominence. Rex spent 11 years at Ball State and arguably some of the most successful years of the athletic training program. From new facilities, faculty, and athletic training students that have gone on to lead the profession. In 1996 Rex left Ball State for the University of Missouri. He spent 25 years at MIZZOU and again impacted the development of new athletic training facilities, team physician coverage, increasing athletic training staff, and started an integrated health care team to provide mental health support to MIZZOU athletes. One of the first in the country. Finally the establishment of an Undergraduate Athletic Training Education Program. In his time at MIZZOU he was on many prestigious safe guard and advisory committees for student-athlete health. Rex and his staff were recognized as the Athletic Training Staff of the year in 2000 and 2011 for the Big 12 Conference. He retired from MIZZOU in 2020. In 2021 he accepted the Director of Sports Medicine position at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Daytona Beach, FL Rex was inducted into the Cardinal Sports Medicine Society Ring of Honor in 2005, The Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2017. The Missouri Athletic Trainers' Hall of Fame in 2018. And the New Albany High School Hall of Fame in 2018. He currently resides in Daytona Beach, FL with his wife Eileen. They are the parents of three adult children, daughter Audrey and twins Adam and Jared.

All of his life Danan Hughes played multiple sports – football, basketball and baseball. It was in his second year in the Milwaukee Brewers farm system and just a year removed from being a third-round draft pick. Weeks earlier in 1993, the Kansas City Chiefs had made him their seventh-round draft pick. Hughes pursued pro football, rising from practice squad member to team captain of the Kansas City Chiefs over a six-year career in the National Football League. And it's why the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame proudly inducted Hughes with the Class of 2022. As a Kansas City Chie,f Danan played from 1993 to 1998 as a wide receiver and punt returner, and was voted a team captain in his second through fifth seasons. Overall, he played in 85 games in an era when the Chiefs were a combined 62-27 and won three AFC West Division championships. Although Hughes contributed solidly as a wide receiver, his strong special teams play is what set the foundation for his career. Since retiring, he has gone into broadcasting. He has been a part of the Big Ten Network's & ESPN's baseball and football coverage since 2008. He also has been a mainstay on the Chiefs' local pregame and postgame shows since 2014. In 2020, he was promoted to an in-game analyst for the Chiefs Radio Network.

GDP Script/ Top Stories for Wednesday July 5 Publish Date: Monday July 3 From the Henssler Financial Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast Today is Wednesday July 5th , and happy 73rd birthday to singer Huey Lewis ****Lewis 73**** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Mall Of Georgia Chrysler Dodge Jeep 1. Gwinnett County Public Schools will hold first 2023 millage rate hearing on Wednesday 2. Chattahoochee River closure expanded amid sewage spill 3. Breakthrough may lead to individualized breast cancer treatments Plus, Leah McGrath of Ingles Markets talks with Bruce Jenkins about cutting back on soda. All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast. Break 1 : Slappey Story 1. millage Gwinnett County Public Schools in Georgia will hold public hearings regarding the proposed millage rate for school taxes. The school board has tentatively adopted a 19.2-mill maintenance and operations millage rate and a 1.45-mill debt service millage rate, maintaining the rates at their 2022 levels. The millage rates fund the school system's day-to-day operations and pay down long-term debt from bond referenda. The rates determine property tax amounts, with the school system's millage rate comprising the largest portion. Despite the rates remaining the same, increased property values will result in higher school taxes. The hearings aim to gather community feedback. STORY 2: sewage Federal authorities have closed sections of the Chattahoochee River in Cobb and Fulton counties due to a sewage spill in Roswell causing high levels of E. coli bacteria. The closure includes all areas of the Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area south of the Chattahoochee Nature Center. Water quality tests have revealed E. coli levels exceeding the recommended limit for recreation. The park is collaborating with Chattahoochee Riverkeeper and local authorities to address the spill and has reported it to the Georgia Environmental Protection Division. Direct contact with the affected areas should be avoided until further notice to prevent health risks associated with E. coli infection. Story 3: Scientists have made a breakthrough in identifying genetic mutations that explain why some patients with the most common form of breast cancer do not respond to treatment. The study specifically focused on estrogen receptor-positive, HER2 (ER+/HER2) breast cancer, which is typically treated with hormonal therapies. The research found that around 20% of tumors resist treatment from the start, and up to 40% develop resistance over time. The findings suggest that personalized breast cancer treatments could be developed based on a person's genetic makeup. This discovery is particularly significant for young women, who are more likely to develop aggressive tumors......……..we'll be right back Break 2: M.O.G. - Tom Wages - Obits Story 4: Bice Roger Bice, a Grayson resident, has been teaching piano and voice lessons for 50 years, impacting students around the world. He was recently honored for his five decades of music education by the Lawrenceville-Suwanee School of Music. Bice's musical career includes teaching at various levels, performing at prestigious venues, and serving as a worship pastor. He has had notable experiences such as performing at Carnegie Hall and entertaining at the Biltmore Estate. Despite being 72 years old, Bice has no plans to retire and continues to teach part-time while expressing his love for music and desire to celebrate 60 years in the field. Story 5: health New research from the University of Georgia reveals that foods like melon, peppers, pumpkin, and corn, along with carrots, can improve vision in low-light conditions. These foods contain lutein and zeaxanthin, compounds that accumulate in the retina and enhance eye health and functional vision. Athletes, in particular, benefit from improved visual range, which allows them to see targets clearly over a distance. Lutein and zeaxanthin act as filters to prevent blue light interference and can enhance athletes' ability to track objects against the sky in sports like baseball. However, the absorption and effects of these compounds vary among individuals, and it may take time to notice any improvements. Nonetheless, the potential benefits for athletes are significant. Story 6: Tobin Former Arizona Cardinals head coach and defensive coordinator Vince Tobin passed away at the age of 79. The cause of death was not disclosed. Tobin had a mixed tenure as head coach of the Cardinals from 1996 to 2000, compiling a record of 28-43. He led the team to one winning season in 1998, which included a playoff victory. Prior to his head coaching role, Tobin served as the defensive coordinator for the Chicago Bears from 1986 to 1992, working under Mike Ditka. He also held defensive coordinator positions in the CFL, USFL, Indianapolis Colts, and Detroit Lions. Tobin was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2008. We'll be back in a moment Break 3: Fernbank (nature of color spot) -ESOG – Ingles 3 Story 7: Leah And Now, Leah McGrath of Ingles Markets talks with us about cutting back on soda ****Leah**** We'll have final thoughts after this Break 4: Lawrenceville Henssler 60 Thanks again for listening to today's Gwinnett Daily Post podcast. Ellen Port is one of the most decorated golfers of any generation. She's won seven USGA events, an accomplishment that puts her in the stratosphere of nine-time USGA winners Bobby Jones and Tiger Woods. Jack Nicklaus and JoAnne Gunderson Carner have eight. However, Port's journey is different than the other golfers on the list. She began playing golf seriously in her mid-20s when she grabbed an old pair of her dad's Wilson blades before heading to St. Louis for a teaching job. She was hooked. In a staggering eight years, Port had secured a spot on the Curtis Cup Team in 1994. She also played in 1996 and captain the team in her home state of Missouri in 2014. Port isn't done yet, she's hoping to win an 8th USGA event, which would give her a title in four different decades. Port isn't just a national champion. She had dominated the Missouri golf scene. She's in the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, St. Louis Sports Hall of Fame, and Missouri Golf Association Hall of Fame. She won the Metropolitan Amateur Champion 16 times and also won the men's Metropolitan Senior Amateur Championship in 2022.We talk about her love of the game and her mentality on the course. She picks out a few highlights from her USGA championships and tells an incredible story about the wildlife in Alaska during the 2022 US Women's Senior Am. She talks about her Curtis Cup experience as a player and captain and gives us a few things she's feeling good about for the future of women's amateur golf. I tend to be opposed to putting things in boxes, and to me, the concept of ‘failure' is potentially another box. Is failure really failure? Or is it just an ‘obstacle' or a ‘learning experience?' Or maybe, is failure simply representative of the fact that you're out in the world doing things? In this episode, we're going to ‘unpack the box of failure' with Justin Skinner. In our conversation, we talk about the differences between ‘failures' vs. ‘obstacles' vs. ‘normalcy,' the importance of detaching the idea of failure from self-worth, why failure is relative, and how to leverage failure as a form of (healthy) motivation. We also discuss the concepts of failure and the importance of giving ourselves grace specifically as it applies to those of us who are entrepreneurs and self-employed. Denny Matthews has been the one consistent radio voice with the Kansas City Royals since their first year, 1969. For his first few years in the booth, Matthews, who grew up in central Illinois, worked with the legendary Buddy Blattner. When Blattner retired in 1974, Matthews became the "voice" of the Royals and has been the Royals' top broadcaster ever since. From 1974 through the 1998 season – a stretch that includes some of the best seasons in the Royals' history – Matthews teamed with Fred White. During their 25 seasons together, "Denny and Fred" became one of the most beloved broadcasting duos in Major League Baseball. In 1999, the Royals fired White and replaced him with Ryan Lefebvre. Despite a tremendous age difference, Denny and Ryan integrated their styles well and became popular with Royals fans. The Royals inducted Matthews into the Royals Hall of Fame in 2004. He was inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame in 2005, and then he was presented with the Ford C. Frick Award by the National Baseball Hall of Fame in 2007.This chat with Denny, who has become a major supporter of students and families in crisis through C You In The Major Leagues, was recorded on Wednesday, March 9, 2022, at Music Theater Heritage in front of our C-10 Mentoring & Leadership students and mentors. The C word with our C-10 students and mentors was CONFIDENCE, which, in the C You In The Major Leagues vernacular means someone who accepts constructive criticism, will try something new, has a positive attitude, and views self as a winner. This interview with Denny focuses largely on that word Confidence and how it pertains to managers and players Denny has been around since 1969. Frankly, we do not do a dive into a lot of anecdotes from Denny's career. This is likely a side of Denny that you have not heard before. We lead things off with some pregame batting practice. Hour 1 - Nick Reed and Sarah Myers are live at Scramblers Diner for the Friday Road Show: Snow is already moving into the KSGF listening area this morning. Be careful as you drive in this morning. Yesterday it was announced that inflation increased to 7.9% in February, which is a new 40-year high. Steve Rattner, the lead adviser on former President Obama's Task Force on the Auto Industry, says President Biden is responsible for historic inflation and skyrocketing gas prices — not Russian President Putin. Iuliia Mendel, the former spokesperson for Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, said the United States' and NATO's firm stance against a no-fly zone over Ukraine signals that the West is "afraid" of attacks from Russian President Putin and creates a "decay of global confidence in American leadership and superpowers." ALSO - Ryan with A-1 Custom Car Care joins us for the car care tip of the week: Ryan and the A-1 crew went to KC for a training seminar. It's important to keep up to date on an ever changing industry. Chris Stark with Honor Flight of the Ozarks joins us: Chris is getting inducted into the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame! Thank you to my guests for sharing their championship experience. His 1,006 career victories pale in comparison to the lasting impact he left on his players and the people that knew him. Thank you to Coach Mullis for her courage and strength as she captured the legacy of this man.
