Everything you ever wanted to know about ADHD...continues! WOOHOO! Go back and check out Parts I & III, or start here to learn more about dopamine, how to differentiate someone with ADHD v. someone who is neurotypical, why folx with ADHD run late, and what the impacts are on school (sadly, so far, not great) when someone is labeled with ADHD and receives accommodations. The things that are easy, hard, and all the myths and misperceptions that exist about what is really not a deficit, but rather an abundance and variety of, attention. The third part of a series from David, who has lectured as an expert and advocate on this subject nationally, and assisted by Isabelle, who is eagerly sponging up the information. A neurodivergent and neurotypical blend of friends Christina, AJ, Gabe, and Isabelle's husband, Bobby, sit in to ask questions. (Part III of David's Lecture Series)-----Isabelle & David welcome Isabelle's husband, Bobby, and their friends, Christina, AJ, and Gabe, to continue to listen and learn from David's tried and tested presentation on ADHD, which he normally gives to fellow clinicians (for the first and second parts of this talk, please see episode 4, All About ADHD Part I and episode 6, All About ADHD Part II). David talks about procrastination, and why it raises the stakes, thus generating more dopamine (the chemical in our brain that gives us a feeling of reward or satisfaction), which folx with ADHD are deficient in. He relates this to the idea that winning, or a win/lose condition, as something that generates dopamine: if we leave for somewhere that is 10 minutes away with 9 minutes to go, if we get there in time, we feel like we beat the clock (won). Also, as we run late to something, for example, we raise the stakes and leave so that we will run late—thus, giving us dopamine—but we're often miserable and blaming ourselves the whole time. Miserable, and loaded with dopamine: reinforcing the behavior that we are also blaming/shaming ourselves for. How struggles with time management (guessing how long something will take or how all the pieces will fit together) make transitions and running late even harder, and how it is important for neurotypical partners and folx to know it is not done on purpose. How to differentiate (or diagnose) someone with ADHD when a lot of symptoms of ADHD also occur in neurotypical folx (like procrastination? Enjoying sex?). Most psychological diagnoses are connected to things many people experience (such as anxiety); and most humans will struggle with executive functioning skills, but all folx with ADHD will struggle with these skills (see below for a list of skills!). Furthermore, when we get into how people recognize and learn from mistakes, that's when you see ADHD: a person with ADHD will make these mistakes a lot more often and also carry a lot more shame and self-blame for doing them because of just how often they make them. Neuropsych (short for neuropsychological testing) can help find an ADHD diagnosis but can also miss it. For example, audience member AJ names going to go to the store and seeing the coupons, but skipping the step of putting them in your pocket (ADHD)—and a pattern of this experience, over and over again (plus the “Why did I do this AGAIN!” feeling). David's use of the Yoda voice “There is no later, only now!” Talking about the shame spiral of the pattern of this happening over and over again. Major consequences of growing up with ADHD - social and school. Folx with ADHD, if they are diagnosed as having it impact their learning (remember: ADHD is not necessarily a learning disability, it must be shown to be impacting learning), they are often tracked with lower level classes and are given accommodations to suit lower IQ students (make things easier). Dilemma there is most people with ADHD have above average IQ: with this setup, they are under stimulated in school, and also isolated and marginalized, systemically. Sharing different school experiences, from being in gifted programs to transitional programs, to having LD labels: and the validation of folx with ADHD often disliking school (especially when they receive accommodations). Seen as if you're doing it on purpose. Especially kicks in around ages 9-10, when peers start normalizing your world v. Your family. Talking about kids will naturally accommodate themselves in school (figure out bare minimum grade, skip homework but do well on a test, for example)—but when they do this, for example, not doing homework, can be read as personal (by the teacher) or avoid the consequences.Dopamine deficiency? ADHD is often understood as neurobiological (brain) difference, that includes lower levels of dopamine, the neurotransmitter (messenger chemical) in our brain that gives us feelings of satisfaction and reward—the feeling of YOU DID IT…ahhhhhhh. Another way of viewing it is a neurotypical person has a shot-glass-sized need for dopamine and so little bits of dopamine fill it up enough to feel that satiation, whereas a person with ADHD has a pint-glass-sized need for dopamine. At times, you need a lot more dopamine and are starving for it, but at other times, you have so much dopamine it is so rewarding (and perhaps the reward feeling while eating that doughnut is actually that much greater), but it also makes it even harder to pull away or transition from getting that dopamine to not (imagine how hard it is to not keep watching a show you love or how it would feel if someone suddenly unplugged the tv). Keep in mind that dopamine is just one of the neurotransmitters doing some fun other stuff where ADHD is concerned.DAVID'S DEFINITIONS:ADD or Attention Deficit Disorder: is an outdated diagnostic label that also used to a serve as a marker (often perpetuating some shame and stigma) differentiating a person from someone who had ADHD or the hyperactive part of ADHD. Currently, everything is called ADHD, with the following subtypes: inattentive type (too much brakes), impulsive type (too much gas), or combined type (too much of one or the other depending on the environment someone is in). Folx diagnosed with ADD will often present as ADHD inattentive or combined subtype.Neuropsych(ological) Testing: can be very expensive, and is one way to get an official diagnosis for ADHD (another is meeting with a licensed clinician who does a thorough social/school/work/life history combined with self-diagnosis). Neuropsych tests assess your reactions and responses to different challenges, and can be helpful in either the validation of a diagnosis or awareness in what kinds of supports/accommodation and modifications might be helpful. It should be noted that these tests are largely dependent on the examiner's evaluation, and aren't perfect and can be wrong. From the Cleveland Clinic: "A neuropsychological evaluation is a test to measure how well a person's brain is working. The abilities tested include reading, language usage, attention, learning, processing speed, reasoning, remembering, problem-solving, mood and personality and more"Procrastination: (For more, see also Episode 008-Are we designed to procrastinate?)this is the behavior that occurs in between the assignment of a task, and working on the task. Everything you ever wanted to know about ADHD. Seriously. From what's happening in the brain, to how it's experienced day to day--the things that are easy, hard, and all the myths and misperceptions that exist about what is really not a deficit, but rather an abundance and variety of, attention. The first part in a series from David, who has lectured as an expert and advocate on this subject nationally, and assisted by Isabelle, who is eagerly sponging up the information. A neurodivergent and neurotypical blend of friends Christina, AJ, Gabe, and Isabelle's husband, Bobby, sit in to ask questions.(Part I of David's All About ADHD Lecture Series)-----Isabelle & David welcome Isabelle's husband, Bobby, and their friends, Christina, AJ, and Gabe, to listen and learn from David's tried and tested presentation on ADHD, which he normally gives to fellow clinicians. ADD and ADHD are the same thing. ADHD is not a learning disability, it's a brain difference. People with ADHD don't automatically qualify for accommodations in schools, need to prove they are struggling hard enough. ADHD is all about the forebrain—the roses of our brain—everything that makes you, you, and makes you unique. Blood tends to flow into the forebrain when you are making decisions. For people with ADHD (see below!), being directed to do something is not doing it. You can look at a red dot, for example, just under different environmental contexts. It's not a deficit of attention, it's variability of attention. As you're demanding more focus, you lose the ability to focus, unless there's a crisis. The root word for patience is suffering. But someone with ADHD experiences much more distress (physiologically) when they are understimulated. Boredom/waiting without structure is the worst. Response cost (see definition below) makes it hard for us to know when we're doing something that has a consequence further on down the road. The act of debating gives you dopamine. Dopamine deficiency? See more about dopamine deficiency below. Do you ever hear someone get angry when they look away from the screen (WHAT?!) It's because they're being starved from dopamine when you're already starving. What elicits hyperfocus instead of distraction? The environment: safety, comfort, consistency, the person's experience/mastery. With ADHD, they need greater levels of stimulation (hyperactive type) or structure (inattentive type) to attend? Again, ADHD is best not thought about as a deficit of attention: attention variability. We have an overabundance of attention. A neurotypical person can attend to whatever in whatever environment, and if they can't, much easier for them to identify and advocate for what's interfering with that (for example, “I can't hear you, the fridge is making a weird noise!”) Whereas for someone with ADHD, it connects to self-esteem, much more difficult to ask for what you need because it makes you think you're different or deficient or you missed the thing that's interfering to begin with. It's the ability to have self-esteem to advocate for the learning environment. We start to touch on ADHD and its link to Auditory Processing Disorder. To see some of David's slides from this presentation, click here (or visit somethingshinypodcast.com)ADHD types explained through how we buy a printer we need:inattentive type: struggles to buy the printer, doesn't take into account the cost of a lack of a printer, buys one six months laterimpulsive type: buys two printers, means to put the other one up for sale, forgets to, sits in a corner for six monthscombination type: see above and experience BOTH, often depending on your level of mastery/comfort (more impulsive). Oh, it's fun.Forebrain skills that are harder for folks with ADHD (no matter the type): Response Cost: neurological skill that helps you know the consequences of your actions later on down the road Delay of Gratification - receiving the reward or win, well after the behavior occurs.Black and White Thinking - believing or acting as if there are only two ways of thinking right or wrong. Black and white thinking makes it harder to see middle paths during an argumentTime and Organization Skills - knowing how long tasks will take, planning transition times into tasks, appropriately guessing how long something will take, or all parts of time and organizational skills.Dopamine deficiency? ADHD is often understood as neurobiological (brain) difference, that includes lower levels of dopamine, the neurotransmitter (messenger chemical) in our brain that gives us feelings of satisfaction and reward—the feeling of YOU DID IT…ahhhhhhh.  Keep in mind that dopamine is just one of the neurotransmitters doing some fun other stuff where ADHD is concerned. The Red Dot Study… came from a book David was reading off his colleague's bookshelf, pre-pandemic. On October 29th, 2014, Richard Wolinsky conducted the last of five interviews with Martin Amis, about Amis's then most recent novel, The Zone of Interest. A new film adaptation of that novel recently opened to rave reviews. Encore podcast originally posted on January 13, 2019. Amos Oz, the noted Israeli novelist, short story writer, essayist and peace activist, and perennial Nobel Prize candidate, died on December 28th, 2018 at the age of 79. The author of forty books, he was a firm believer in the two-state solution who felt, over the previous decade, that the hope for peace appears to be slipping away. Today, it's gotten worse of course. Today his greatest work is considered to be the memoir of his family, set against the background of the rise of Nazi Germany, World War II, and the formation of the state of Israel, and culminating in the suicide of his mother. Bookwaves/Artwaves is produced and hosted by Richard Wolinsky. Links to assorted local theater & book venues   Bookwaves Anne Rice died of a stroke on December 11, 2021. This career-ranging interview was recorded on December 2, 2016 at Books Inc. in Opera Plaza in San Francisco, while she was on tour for her latest novel, “Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis.” Anne Rice achieved success in 1976 with her novel “Interview with the Vampire,” which spawned a series of novels titled “The Vampire Chronicles” and became a world-wide phenomenon. Along the way, she also wrote several other novels including the Mayfair Witches trilogy, Cry to Heaven, a series of books under pseudonyms, and the screenplay for “Interview with the Vampire” was turned into a successful film starring Tom Cruise and Brad Pitt. By 2003, she'd written ten novels in the Vampire Chronicles and took a break, writing novels on the life of Jesus, on angels, and on werewolves. In 2014, she returned to her vampire hero, Lestat, with Prince Lestat. Prince Lestat and the Realm of Atlantis was the second in this latest series. Since the interview was recorded, Anne Rice published one more Lestat novel, Blood Communion: A Tale of Prince Lestat in 2018, which is her last solo novel to date, though it's possible there are more to come. There are two novels written in collaboration with her son, novelist Christopher Rice, sequels to her 1989 novel Ramses the Damned. The Passion of Cleopatra was released in 2017 and The Reign of Osiris in 2022. Two seasons of a television adaptation of Interview with the Vampire and one season of The Mayfair Witches can be found on the AMC+ app. Complete Interview     Book Interview/Events and Theatre Links Note: Shows may unexpectedly close early or be postponed due to actors' positive COVID tests. YOU Did It!!!  Listener Adventure Stories Today we start a new segment on the show featuring folks like you and me, who got inspired to step outside of their comfort zone and took on an adventure. While in the future, these will be shorter segments added to the regular show, I thought we'd start off with this incredible story of Sally, who thought she was heading for a wheel chair due to multiple injuries from her days as a dancer.  Instead, through training, grit, and fortitude, Sally instead headed to the North Island of New Zealand and hiked the challenging Tongariro Crossing!  Next, she'll climb Machu Picchu!  Adventure travel has COMPLETELY changed she and her husband's life! Like Sally, it took someone (my friend John) encouranging me and who believed in me and convince me that I could, with proper training, that I too could go on an epic adventure.  It is my hope that these listener stories will inspire you, too! YOU DID IT!! It is the last episode of our Curriculum Design mini-series and we are wrapping it up with a little extra support with what I think is the most challenging assessment to write, the end-of-unit tests. Now, let's be clear, no assessment is easy to write, and writing tests is NOT for the faint of heart. Of course, I want to give you as many helpful tips as I can, so in today's episode, I am giving you a glimpse into how I write my end-of-unit tests. As I mentioned, writing tests is challenging, and I don't want you diving into this thinking it will be easy peasy because, quite honestly, it won't be. However, I hope that hearing how I create my end-of-unit tests makes it a bit more manageable. In this episode, I am sharing what I recommend you use as a starting point, how I typically break down the types of questions on tests, how I like to divide up my end-of-unit tests, and why it is CRUCIAL you review your tests for bias. I hope you found this mini-series to be incredibly helpful and packed full of useful information! I am so grateful that you are spending your summer with me and preparing for the school year! Next up, we are jumping into classroom management so if you know a teacher friend who you think would love this topic, be sure to spread the love and share the Summer Podcast PD with them! This episode contains: Everyone is back this week! Steven continues his Star Wars rewatch. Ben has issues with Steven telling his he listens to sad music. Devon chimes in on the music chat. We decide to make some playlists to share with our Patrons.  Unlimited Power: Scientists Successfully Transmit Space-Based Solar Power to Earth for the First Time. Caltech conducted a power transfer experiment using the Microwave Array for Power-transfer Low-orbit Experiment, or MAPLE. They beamed solar power from space to Pasadena. Gotta start somewhere.  https://gizmodo.com/scientists-beam-space-based-solar-power-earth-first-tim-1850500731  You Did It, You Blew it Up, You Maniacs!: They plugged GPT-4 into Minecraft—and unearthed new potential for AI. ChatGPT generates objectives to help an agent explore Minecraft and improve the bots skill over time. We use this as a jumping off point for exploring different uses for ChatGPT in our lives.  https://arstechnica.com/ai/2023/06/they-plugged-gpt-4-into-minecraft-and-unearthed-new-potential-for-ai/  Big Question: Do we value experiences based on how shareable they are? We chat quite a bit about how to even parse this question. We end up talking a bit about our hobbies and how we share them with our kids.  Science Fiction:  Steven watched Guardians of the Galaxy Volume 3, alone. We talk about if you need to see the Holiday Special first (we recommend it, but it's not required). Minor spoilers for a bit of the movie, but nothing major. Steven had some issues with Adam Warlock. We talk a bit about Marvel's (and Disney's) Jonathan Majors problem. Ben and Steven are excited for The Marvels, and Steven hypothesis that Secret Invasion will allow the MCU to retcon whatever they want with Skrulls.

BIG THANK TO THIS EPISODE'S SPONSORS: The Hockey Podcast Network, Draft Kings, The Hub Tavern, and Fire Chief John Miller!  In this LENGTHY episode of the Dusty Bender Hockey Podcast, the guys survive their trip to Moscow and dig into EACH playoff matchup of the first round and make picks for the second round: • Seattle Kraken vs. Colorado Avalanche- "You Did It. The Crazy Son of a Bitch, You Did It." • Vegas Golden Knights vs. Winnipeg Jets- Vegas reminds the Jets that they're the Golden Knights. Time to tear it down in Winnipeg? • Dallas Stars vs. Minnesota Wild- Another lifeless first-round performance by the Wild. Otter is still very good. • Edmonton Oilers vs. Los Angels Kings- Kings put up a valiant effort, but the Oilers are just top skilled and deep. • Boston Bruins vs. Florida Panthers- "The greatest upset in the history of the NHL." Is it really? • Toronto Maple Leafs vs. Tampa Bay Lightning- And with their first round win, the Toronto Maple Leafs have been awarded the Stanley Cup. Sorry everyone else. • Carolina Hurricanes vs. New York Islanders- Barry Trotz is the only person that can make boring hockey work. • New York Rangers vs. New Jersey Devils- Did someone tell the Rangers that Game 7 was do or die? Certainly didn't seem like it. Second Round preview! • Seattle vs. Dallas - You know that sly feeling Seattle fans had of a sneaky upset in round one? Yeah, not feeling it this time around unfortunately. Hope they prove us wrong yet again. • Vegas vs. Edmonton- Felt like this matchup was inevitable. This one is gonna be close. • Florida vs. Toronto- Two teams buzzing from impressive first-round wins. On paper, it's the boys-in-blue that have the edge, but nobody should sleep on Matthew Tkachuk. •New Jersey vs. Carolina- Youth takes on experience. Can Akira Schmid continue to impress? Becoming a millionaire by 30 is almost every 20-or-something-year-old's dream. But what if you want to go even further? Instead of seven-figure net worth, what about an eight-figure net worth? Would this be enough to make your wildest dreams come true, or is planning for ultra-wealthy status a wasted pursuit, as most people could easily retire earlywith just a few million? The question we're trying to ask is, how much is enough? It's not Scott and Mindy asking this question, it's today's guest, Travis. You could call Travis an overachiever, although he doesn't have the ego to fit that title. Travis has built close to a million dollars in net worth, with $10,000 of monthly passive income in just four years. He's done this while working a full-time job and spending just $2,000 a month. If we could give a “You Did It, You Won the Money Show!” award, Travis would be first in line. But Travis is struggling to get his goals aligned with his portfolio. He set a lofty eight-figure goal for retirement, but with his rock-bottom spending rate, is this dollar figure even worth the work? Travis also wants to pose the stocks vs. real estate question, as he's almost entirely invested in rental properties with very little left in retirement accounts or any stock accounts in general. So what is Travis' next move? Quit the job, load up on stocks, or keep doing what he's been doing? In This Episode We CoverUsing the BRRRR strategy to grow a large rental portfolio in very little time Hitting millionaire status by your thirties through smart spending and consistent investingWhen to quit your W2 and pursue entrepreneurial pursuits full-timeStocks vs. real estate and loading up your Roth, 401K, and other retirement accountsGoal setting and when to take a step back from building wealth CapEx calculations, cash reserves, and prepaying your mortgage And So Much More!Links from the ShowBiggerPockets Money Facebook GroupBiggerPockets ForumsFinance Review Guest OnboardingMindy's TwitterScott's InstagramListen to All Your Favorite BiggerPockets Podcasts in One PlaceApply to Be a Guest on The Money ShowPodcast Talent Search!Subscribe to The “On The Market” YouTube ChannelListen to The “On The Market” Podcast: Spotify, Apple Podcasts, BiggerPocketsCheck Out Mindy's 2022 Live Spending Tracker and BudgetBiggerPockets FIRE Planning WorksheetReady to Retire: The Ultimate Pre-Retirement ChecklistCoast FI: The Calculated Way to Retire Early WITHOUT Giving Up What You Love w/Jessica from The FioneersEpisode 200 Special: A Personal Finance Masterclass with Kyle MastClick here to check the full show notes: https://www.biggerpockets.com/blog/money-336Interested in learning more about today's sponsors or becoming a BiggerPockets partner yourself? All About ADHD - Part III

Something Shiny: ADHD!

Play Episode Listen Later Oct 27, 2021 19:44

Isabelle & David welcome Isabelle's husband, Bobby, and their friends, Christina, AJ, and Gabe, to continue to listen and learn from David's tried and tested presentation on ADHD, which he normally gives to fellow clinicians (for the first and second parts of this talk, please see episode 4, All About ADHD Part I and episode 6, All About ADHD Part II). This is waiting to the last minute, or what we do when we don't want to start work. Why do folx with ADHD procrastinate? Waiting for the last minute, or delaying starting can be self medication for someone with ADHD. Excitement, Anxiety, Anger are all feelings that trigger stimulate us (our heart rate increases). Once this happens we remove any delay in reinforcement, as all acts towards work completion reduce that feeling/stimulation. It can also really increase the feeling of winning, if deadlines are met. Executive Functioning Skills: Also known as forebrain skills because they are activated in the part of your brain right behind your forehead (the “fore” of your brain). Most humans will struggle with the following skills, because they are hard to do. However, everyone with ADHD will struggle with the following (to a greater or lesser degree, often dependent on the environment, structures, routines in place, etc.):Response Cost: neurological skill that helps you know the consequences of your actions later on down the road Delay of Gratification - receiving the reward or win, well after the behavior occurs.Black and White Thinking - believing or acting as if there are only two ways of thinking right or wrong. Black and white thinking makes it harder to see middle paths during an argumentTime and Organization Skills - knowing how long tasks will take, planning transition times into tasks, appropriately guessing how long something will take, or all parts of time and organizational skills.-----Cover Art by: Sol VázquezSocial Media Rockstar/Chief Chicken Chaser: Lauren JacksonTechnical Support by: Bobby Richards

Isabelle & David welcome Isabelle's husband, Bobby, and their friends, Christina, AJ, and Gabe, to listen and learn from David's tried and tested presentation on ADHD, which he normally gives to fellow clinicians. To see some of David's slides from this presentation, click here (or visit somethingshinypodcast.com)ADHD types explained through how we buy a printer we need: inattentive type: struggles to buy the printer, doesn't take into account the cost of a lack of a printer, buys one six months later impulsive type: buys two printers, means to put the other one up for sale, forgets to, sits in a corner for six months combination type: see above and experience BOTH, often depending on your level of mastery/comfort (more impulsive). Oh, it's fun. Forebrain skills that are harder for folks with ADHD (no matter the type): Response Cost: neurological skill that helps you know the consequences of your actions later on down the road Delay of Gratification - receiving the reward or win, well after the behavior occurs.Black and White Thinking - believing or acting as if there are only two ways of thinking right or wrong. Pandemic happened. Office closed (permanently). No memory of the author. We will keep looking for it, but in the meantime, our apologies and here is a study with similar findings: https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3763932/-------cover art by: Sol Vázquez

Body Butter is a pleasing lotion type product that every person in the house can enjoy. For women, body butter helps them feel sexy and soft. They also feel good knowing their skin is being taken care of and getting the treatment it deserves. As for the men, they will appreciate the silkiness of a women's skin, along with the pleasing scent of peppermint that emanates from her body. The body butter is also a healthy choice for children as it keeps moisture in and dry skin away. I rub it on my little girl right out of the shower, and she loves it; not only the feel but she says it smells like Christmas :). With that happy note, roll up your sleeves, set aside 30 min. and get to work making this amazing body butter. Ingredients: 1 cup shea butter, grated.1/2 cup coconut oil.1/2 cup jojoba, almond, or olive oil.1-2 tsp peppermint oil.2 Tbl pure cocoa powder.2 tsp vitamin E. Items needed: Double boiler or pot with an inch of water on the bottom and another pot sitting on top.Large bowlSmall bowlStirring utensilBeaters or blender of choice.Ice or FridgeSpatula Directions: To begin, take your double broiler and melt the shea butter and coconut oil.  Do not let it boil; stir while melting. When your shea butter and coconut oil have melted remove the pot from heat.  Measure 2 Tbls of cocoa powder into a small bowl, add almond, jojoba, or olive oil (I used almond) to the cocoa powder, and stir. Now add the mixture to the shea butter and coconut oil, stir and chill in a large bowl of ice or put in the fridge until slightly hard. About 10 minutes. Once the mixture has cooled, remove from the fridge and add peppermint and vitamin E. If you are using the ice bath as I did above just leave the mixture in it until the next step. Now remove the mixture from the ice bath and whip on medium/high until stiff peaks form. Here is what the body butter looks like when it is fully whipped. Now you may put the body butter in whatever container you wish using your spatula. I used little jelly jars, so I could give them away as gifts. If you are keeping them for yourself, store the containers in a cool place. I keep one in the bathroom to use after showering. Just make sure it is in a drawer, cupboard, or under the sink. Ending notes: YOU DID IT!  How simple was that? All you need to do now is go enjoy this tremendous body butter and feel good about the softness it will bring to your skin. Oh, I almost forgot to tell you, as an added bonus you will have a little glow from the cocoa powder ;). As I have incredibly white skin but don't like to tan, this is the perfect product to use. Harmless and radiating. That's it friends. Be sure to follow my blog so you will see the weekly posts that come out. For not though, stay healthy and free. YOU DID IT!! 40 Days To Freedom From Alcohol. In the episode, I recap the journey and answer a couple listener's questions all coming back to the same real answer: observation and rewiring the brain from the place of an inspired future.I hope you enjoyed this sacred journey and will consider continuing to implement this work into all areas of your life. Alcohol is a habit, until it's not, but it doesn't happen on it's own, it takes work. I don't look at it as something unfortunate, my alcohol journey changed my life for the better, in every single way. I would not have the level of awareness I have without what I have gone through, this is true for all of my clients. Today we talk about the power of the present. The only way to shift of from the dreaded future, or negative thought loops is to interrupt the circuit again and again. You MUST practice a new way of thinking. This isn't a one size fits all as some coaches talk about. It happens in the mind and body at the same time. To neglacted then embodied experiance of our lives is to do a disservice to the ways in which change is possible. This weeks self inquiry:What are the benefits you are still seeing from alcohol? How can you disprove them?If you know it's a BS habit, what's stopping you from diving in?What's the worst that can happen if you are confronted with yourself face to face?In a year from now, how will you feel if you are still waking up with regret and fretting about alcohol? What do you want your life to FEEL like?Who are you and what do you stand for? What area's have of your life do you have more awareness about?Dance your way sober, yes, you can chant your way alcohol free. You can think your way sober too.. But ALL of these practices come from a place of neutral observation, witnessing the mind without judgement. Enjoy the show. Guests got to see the pages with us in a slideshow--which you can also check out on our website! We also asked for listener submissions for what we called the "You Did It!" section. To wrap up, we discussed a few design trends for 2019 and the Colors Of The Year. With lots of audience participation, you'll be able to hear which trends are in--and which ones are over before they begin. We are continuing our 30 Days of Gratitude! If you missed the scoop about why we’re celebrating, be sure to check out Episode One. Yesterday, I talked about God’s endless love. Today, we’re going to be discussing Day Thirty’s topic: Now. We are at the last day of our 30 Days of Gratitude, and I’m so grateful for you sticking with it! I pray that even though this series of podcasts is over, we will all continue to be grateful for everything we have been given and everything we have endured. As I told you a couple of days ago, I have some really amazing content planned for December, so be sure to check back in daily for lots of tea, encouragement, love and laughter! Now let’s close this thing out with Day 30 from my devotional. “On the way to Jerusalem he was passing along between Samaria and Galilee. And as he entered a village, he was met by ten lepers, who stood at a distance and lifted up their voices, saying, ‘Jesus, Master, have mercy on us.’ When he saw them he said to them, ‘Go and show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went they were cleansed. Then one of them, when he saw that he was healed, turned back, praising God with a loud voice; and he fell on his face at Jesus' feet, giving him thanks. Now he was a Samaritan. Then Jesus answered, ‘Were not ten cleansed? Where are the nine? Was no one found to return and give praise to God except this foreigner?’ And he said to him, ‘Rise and go your way; your faith has made you well.’” Luke 17:11-19 (ESV) ~ Today’s Declaration ~ NOW is the time. I am responsible for my life. YOU DID IT!!!! Today is the last day. You did it. I can't tell you how proud I am of you. I am so so so so proud! I could cry! I am sitting here smiling at the thought of you getting through all of these stories, scriptures, lines on the paper, all of it. I am SO PROUD of you. Thank you SO MUCH for sticking this out. Thank you SO MUCH for doing the work. I appreciate it, and I know your soul appreciates it. Thank you, thank you, thank you! Now… Now. Now is the time to move forward. This is it. There's no better time. Now. Right now. Put one foot in front of the other, and keep going. You can always refer back to this book any time you get ready - and as a matter of fact, I encourage you to. I recommend it. You'll be surprised by how much you've grown. Listen. Jesus went to a village. He saw the lepers. They asked for mercy. He simply told them to go and show themselves to the priests. The Bible says that they were healed AS THEY WENT. They had to make steps. They had to start walking. ALL OF THEM were healed. ALL OF THEM. However, only one turned around, went back to Jesus, and thanked Him. Guess what he was? Yep. A Samaritan. Remember? Yes indeed. A Samaritan. Amazing. You don't owe me anything. I just ask that you let the way you LIVE be your "thank you". Let your LIFE be your praise to God. YOUR faith made you well. It wasn't my doing. You should feel so good! YOU DID IT! Wow. YOU DID IT! Celebrate! Have an amazing day today. Show love to yourself AND others.  Be GREAT! I speak life to you and everyone and everything connected to you! Catch me tomorrow!   XOXO, Na'Kole ♥
