MedLink Neurology Podcast is delighted to feature selected episodes from BrainWaves, courtesy of James E Siegler MD, its originator and host. BrainWaves is an academic audio podcast whose mission is to educate medical providers through clinical cases and topical reviews in neurology, medicine, and the humanities. Episodes originally aired from 2016 to 2021.Originally released: November 14, 2019The FDA label for ACTEMRA® (tocilizumab)--the first medication approved for use in giant cell arteritis in 2017--is 40 pages long. Of the information provided in this document, which includes important dosing information, dose adjustments based on leukocyte count, clinical trial and epidemiologic data, there is a box of text on the first page of the insert. "WARNING: RISK OF SERIOUS INFECTIONS," it reads. What do you make of this warning? And with such a clear and broad-sweeping statement stamped on the medication, how do you mitigate the medico-legal risk of using this drug? This week on the program we launch into a two-part series focused on some of the events that follow major clinical trials. In part 1, we cover the three major classifications of FDA alerts for medical treatments using two examples from the neurologic pharmacopoeia. In part 2, we emphasize the importance of post-publication peer review. And both are equally instrumental in our medical decision-making.Produced by James E Siegler with the support of Michael Rubenstein (University of Pennsylvania) and Zachary Newcomer (University of Florida). Today we explored the rise of open source artificial intelligence. Unlike closed models dominated by Big Tech firms, open source AI is transparent and accessible to all. Initiatives like TensorFlow, PyTorch and Stable Diffusion show the power of open collaboration and innovation. However, there are debates around risks of open access versus limiting creativity and progress. Overall, open source promotes democratization and appears pivotal to the ethical development of AI. Join Chris and Eric with special guest and rogue ex-Googler, Ben Kruger as we discuss the Google's innovators dilemma and opportunity as it relates to the roll out of AI! * The Big Catch-22- Google can't ignore the inevitable path to generative results- But how can it do this without sacrificing the publisher & advertiser ecosystem?- Odds are they'll probably attempt some kind of fence-straddling compromise. It's unclear if this is tenable. * Fresh-Squeezed Organic- No matter how it's spun, SGE is basically all bad news for web publishers- There will be less "listings" in generative answers, and less incentive for users to click through- How will publishers adapt to a world where Search becomes a less accessible channel? * Just Not Clicking- Similarly to publishers, advertisers will likely find clicks a lot harder to come by- eCPCs are almost certain to explode higher as the current demand levels chase far less inventory- How will advertisers adapt to an increasingly winner-take-all ecosystem? * Conclusion- Does The Search Box go the way of the DVD (dead), or Cable TV (diminished, but still here & part of a larger platform)?AI-Enabled Cognitive Search: Google has introduced a real-time cognitive search that combines Bard AI-synthesized content with regular Google search results. When combined with Google Shop, this feature could prove beneficial for websites and e-commerce enterprises, providing a unique selling point for Google.

He has the ability to speak the right words to accommodate your communicative needs at any given moment. Want to get a taste of that? Check out this episode of the Super Entrepreneurs Podcast where Mark talks about some of his inner-working techniques. Who Is Mark Whittle? First of all, unlike most people, Mark Whittle is a Monday person; he likes to start his week with a positive vibe. That's why he spends his Sunday writing about his goals for the week… Anyway, that's just a snippet of what his attitude is like. He inherited his talent for igniting the spark of inspiration and motivation from his father, an old-school coach, something Mark improved upon by focusing more on the internal world. How is Mark Whittle Super? Mark Whittle's super power is his sense of humor and resilience. Nothing can truly impact him negatively with such a mindset because even set-backs and negativity are seen through a humorous, positive lens. Remember, TRAGEDY+TIME=COMEDY… Shahid Durrani's Key Insight: Shahid Durrani is always happy to have guests like Mark Whittle, not that the other guests make him any less happier. In this episode of the Living The Retirement Lifestyle Podcast we have as our guest Greg Aler author of Fire Your Financial Advisor and advocate for change in the world of financial services as it relates to retirement in America today. Greg has a fascinating background as you'll hear during our chat but it really does put him in a position to share what he knows about the industry and how retirees can fight back (and not just in America). Told though metaphors and recognizable events Greg shares the story inside his book of how the financial industry created a trillion-dollar empire by withholding information while over-charging and under-servicing retirees regarding the real risks of retirement. It was a very entertaining chat and we think you will see from the fact that despite being the CEO of 3 very successful companies he prefers a more relaxed look and can see why his clients would like him. We especially loved his idea that all retirees should have money set aside for fun, travel, hobbies or anything that they enjoy. https://vimeo.com/814682036 With staggering numbers of Americans living far longer than ever before (and no different to any other developed nation) our retirement savings need to go a lot further and take into account long term health care as well as investments and life savings. As we said above, what we liked best was when he said he encourages his clients to set aside money for their fun time as everyone in their retirement needs to enjoy this time of their life and not just be saving for the future. Greg has definitely stirred up a hornets nest but in a good way and highlighted the reason that the advice that your financial advisor might have given you to get to the top of "Retirement Mountain" probably won't help get you down. That is what most retirees miss – until it's too late... but no more! We hope you enjoyed the show as much as we did and you maybe go ask the question of your financial advisor
Today, we're going to tell you the story of God of War, originally released for the PlayStation 2 in May of 2005. We'll also talk about everything that inspired the beginning of this series before talking about our own experiences with the game. Finally, we'll compare the mythology of the game against real Greek mythology. Stick around for today's trip down Memory Card Lane.

Impact of Educational Leadership Episode 158 Hosted by: I. D. III for Isaiah Drone III Larry Davis | Danyelle Bridges | Buddy Thornton Opening Pandora's Box to Create a Positive School Culture The expression to open Pandora's box has long been used to describe an act that may have unforeseen and unpleasant consequences. It derives from a Greek myth in which the woman Pandora, driven by curiosity, opens a jar (or a box) containing various human evils, unintentionally loosing them on the world. Building a Marquee Culture begins by aligning the school norms that build values. Rituals are recurring employee activities that build positive energy and reinforce brand values. Rituals can be led by leaders and include things such as all-staff activities. In addition, the media and travel are creating rapid cultural changes. As the English language becomes more important worldwide, its cultural practices influence. As there is much overlap between cultures, measuring them is particularly difficult. Western culture is found in many areas of the world, and American culture has become more diverse thanks to immigration. Although it is challenging to measure cultures, there are some apparent differences worldwide. For example, Western culture differs significantly from those found in post-Cold War era countries. Further differences are seen in North Africa, Southeast Asia, and other areas. Such differences are apparent regarding religion, cuisine, and social etiquette. Buddy Thornton: Why Our Choices Fail as educational leaders? Danyelle Bridges: How does your organization take pride in supporting educators to cope, connect, and eliminate turnover? Larry Davis: How do educators and families enlarge or expand hope? Buddy Thornton: How do you manage friends who do not have similar values and beliefs? A new plan to tackle long waiting lists for non-urgent surgery is being compared to opening a pandora's box. The Government announced yesterday that public hospital waiting lists will be managed nationally in the face of soaring unmet demand. It said that in March, nearly 36,000 people had been waiting longer than four months for their first appointment with a specialist. Those waiting more than four months for treatment had also more than trebled, from 8000 in February 2020 to nearly 27,000 in March this year. The plan could see people move around the country to hospitals where their operation can be done sooner. Prominent surgeon, Geoffrey Horne, says that means funding is going to have to go with them and somebody is going to have to ensure that happens. He says it's ironic that the term waiting list is back in use, having been banned about a decade ago by health bureaucrats who would never admit there was such a thing as unmet need

Peter Field has degrees in journalism and English, has worked in government, and is on the board of the Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians (AEBC), just one of multiple organizations offering advocacy and support to Canadians who are blind. He grew up in the Toronto area but has retired to British Columbia, just in time for the extreme rain and flooding and “atmospheric river phenomenon” that's been taking place this fall on the west coast. Not to mention his southwestern Ontario connection, right along with us and our family, he's got his own family ties to a place called Tavistock we know well. This week on Outlook, we speak with Peter about the three-pronged project he's involved in known as the Pandora Project. He joins us to share about the three components: a book on the history of blindness in this country, the Triple Vision podcast sharing diverse perspectives from the past, present, and future, and educational materials for Canadian children and students to learn about the role blind people have occupied in society. Things we discuss in this episode include Peter's years of transition as a teenager who was integrated and who rapidly became blind while trying to manage as a young person beginning his life, on his spotty interactions with other blind people (how to find mentors and friends and allies along the way) until later on in his life, and how he eventually came together with four other people (with even a Western University connection in there somewhere) to make the Pandora Project a reality. Questions we pose: How do we find community and establish pride in ourselves and fight off eternalized ableism? How do we best bring people along who may be isolated or overwhelmed? And how do we best tell an authentic history of blindness and disability to focus on greater diversity? As is said, once you open Pandora's box, there's no stuffing back in all that has sprung from said box. This is no different when it comes to the history of blindness in Canada, of our past, present, and future and is what a team of colleagues, friends, and advocates (including Peter Field) have set out to explore. Some of the same things, these are why we do this podcast, as two blind siblings in Canada and we at Outlook On Radio Western think it's about time. Check out the Triple Vision podcast: https://podcasts.apple.com/ca/podcast/triple-vision/id1589475286 And learn more about Alliance for Equality of Blind Canadians on their official website: http://www.blindcanadians.ca/

Is legally avoiding taxes a smart thing to do, or is it dodging one's social responsibility? Oh boy. Here it is. My life story in an hour. I sit down with my husband, Dustin to talk about moving around a lot, living in the four corners of the United States and finally making a move abroad. We discuss:+ How moving as a child influenced my personality and life skills+ The turning point of living in New York City and what that meant for us+ My original vision for my life and how my current reality is the exact OPPOSITE!+ Our first international move: Opening Pandora's boxMy life creed has unofficially become: "Does it scare me? Let's do it." Saying yes to as much as I can has provided incredible adventures (that are also very hard!) that have forced me into growth, and it's been life changing. Hope you enjoy!______________________________________________Follow Expat Hour on instagram and facebook.Subscribe to the blog or sign up to be a guest on the show at www.expathour.com
The Shadow Self can be your greatest teacher, your ally in BECOMING all that you can be and more. The FDA label for ACTEMRA (tocilizumab)--the first medication approved for use in giant cell arteritis in 2017--is 40 pages long. Of the information provided in this document, which includes important dosing information, dose adjustments based on leukocyte count, clinical trial and epidemiologic data, there is a box of text on the first page of the insert. "WARNING: RISK OF SERIOUS INFECTIONS" it reads. What do you make of this warning? And with such a clear and broad-sweeping statement stamped on the medication, how do you mitigate the medico-legal risk for using this drug? This week on the program we launch into a 2-part series focused on some of the events which follow major clinical trials. In part 1, we cover the 3 major classifications of FDA alerts for medical treatments using 2 examples from the neurologic pharmacopoeia. In part 2, we emphasize the importance of post-publication peer review. And both are equally instrumental in our medical decision making. Produced by James E. This is a special podcast recorded live at InsureTech Connect 2017 in Las Vegas on October 4, 2017. I participated in a panel about the future of life insurance underwriting called “Underwriting 2.0: Opening Pandora’s Box.” I was alongside three industry professsionals and the panel was moderated by Samantha Chow of Aite Group. You’ll hear a spirited discussion that highlights the exciting new capability of our subsidiary Life Epigenetics, Inc. Life Epigenetics applies the predictive epigenetic science to life insurance underwriting. It was great to begin to tell this story to an audience of insurance professionals, most of whom were hearing about epigenetics for the first time.
Join Greg Carlwood of The Higherside Chats podcast as he hosts Mary Joyce. A long time journalist and author who has written several books including, "Cherokee Little People Were Real" and"Underground Military Bases Hidden in the North Carolina Mountains", Mary is also editor of the website Skyships Over Cashiers, which among other things, details UFO activity in the area. Many of us who have waded deep into the weird forest have inevitably come across stories of aliens, UFOs, and secret military bases in the southwestern United States. Whether it be crashed saucers in Roswell, secret underground other worldly battles at Dulce, or a doomsday safe haven for the elite underneath the Denver airport, the western frontier is ripe with weirdness. Digging into the archives of early America, there is plenty of evidence giants once walked these lands, and confirmation found throughout dozens and dozens of newspaper reports and Native American legends that state the same. While many people have their spotlight shining on the New Mexico Desert, they're missing all the sweet, similarly secretive stuff going on in the polar opposite of the country, the mountains of North Carolina. And while giants dominate the narrative of other ancient humanoids, the lesser discussed legends of the little people living throughout the Carolina hills continues to persist. Listen as Greg and Mary take a complete 180 to discuss the legends and lore that are prominent throughout this region. 2:20 Listen as Greg and Mary begin by giving some geographical context to the particular area under discussion. Mary details her initiation into the weird world of underground military bases, UFO, and giants and how this led to the creation of her website Skyships Over Cashiers. 3:25 Opening Pandora's box, Greg and Mary begin by discussing the existence of underground military bases discretely scattered throughout the mountains of North Carolina. As Mary explains, of the 5 facilities studied in her book, The Smokey Mountain National Park is the most prominent and easily identifiable one. She also details the site within Mount Mitchell, the tallest mountain east of the Mississippi and the Pisgah Astronomical Research Institute, a facility remaining from the days of the Cold War. 6:15 As one of the largest underground facilities, Mount Mitchell is said to be it's own self- sustaining habitat containing access to water and electricity and running up to 20 stories subterranean. With such an elaborate infrastructure in place, Mary elaborates on how this may give credence to the concept that Mount Mitchell is home to numerous UN troops. Listen as Mary explains that in 1972 under President Nixon, the US entered into the World Heritage Treaty, granting access of American lands to the UN and opening the floodgates for UN troop occupation. 13:30 Armed with a wealth of knowledge from former military associates, Mary catalogs the transportation of military equipment to these areas through aerial drops. Listen as Mary then details the extreme measures taken to discourage any type of investigation into the events in these areas, including but not limited to a "people repellent". 16:20 After photographing several anomalous UFOs above the mountain range near PARI, Mary was compelled to document her findings, bringing about the birth of her site Skyships Over Cashiers. Listen as Mary identifies the numerous craft types she's witnessed including the typical saucer, diamond shaped crafts, and oddly enough hovering boulders resembling volcanic rock. As the conversation continues, Mary and Greg discuss potential interactions with the pilots of these crafts, and whether their appearance in national parks in conjunction with growing list of disappearing people are related or simply just coincidence. 20:00 Greg and Mary continue down the path of weird by discussing her visit to the rolling mountains of Tennessee. Contacted by a man whose family lineage can be linked to...

Recent technology advances have resulted in the ability to sequence anyone’s genome cheaply and quickly, but we are only just beginning the journey to discover the true meaning of our individual genomes. If you have your own genome sequenced, who should see it? How can we safely share a genome without ending up opening a whole new form of cybersnooping? Using neurodegenerative diseases as an example, this talk will explore how these problems are being addressed and how this new technology could be used to predict whether a person will get a disease such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or motor neurone disease.

The two most fundamental transformations of economic life in human history were the Neolithic food revolution and the industrial revolution. It is no surprise that the latter was unexpected by contemporaries, but it is intriguing and instructive that those who were best informed, such as, for example, Adam Smith and the other classical economists, were explicit that such a transformation was impossible. The paradox can be resolved, however, by considering the role of energy supply in the transformation which was taking place.
My three favorite women leaders have a discussion with me about our favorite topic: VULNERABILITY I learned how important vulnerability was to having my deepest desire from these ladies. That desire is to be connected. We want to be seen, heard and valued, but we are scared to actually allow others to see the deeper aspects of ourselves. When we let go of the fear and open up, the connection we crave is actually available to us. In this episode: * We explain the difference between authenticity and vulnerability * The importance of vulnerability in your relationships * We actually walk the walk and each share something most vulnerable for us in the moment! Meet our guests: Johanna Lyman is the Producer/Director of Opening Pandora’s Box: Stories of Truth and Hope. This is a revolutionary theatre performance that shines the light of truth on our stories of shame in order to help both the performers and the audience find the gifts and the hope at the bottom of their stories. When she’s not producing a performance, Johanna runs a private coaching practice where she helps visionary women (you know, the ones the Dalai Lama said would save the world) unravel their shame stories, access the courage of authentic vulnerability, and find the soul gifts they’re here to share with the world. When her clients commit to living in their own Sacred Yes, they move mountains, live their dreams, make more money, and yes — save the world. www.mysacredyes.com Jessica Libbey believes that you have infinite potential and that cultivating boldness and self love is the key to tapping into that potential and creating the pleasurable and fulfilling life you truly desire.
