In our first interview on The Mindful Chiropractor, I have invited my accountant who I have been working for over 7 years. I thought this was a critical and informative guest to have on during these times with inflation on the rise and will continue for quite some time. When inflation rises, there are two actions we must focus on to shift gears from it. The first will be, to lower your taxes. It is the most critical part to it all. The second is to offset inflation. This can come in many forms and I will be having more guests on to discuss this part in the upcoming months. Annette Woods Financial Flossing: Guiding Dental Professionals to a Brighter Future with Ross Brannon Episode 031: Financial Wisdom from a Bookkeeping Perspective Annette Woods is a 1983 graduate of the University of Michigan Dental Hygiene School. She worked for 35+ years as a dental hygienist in many different types of dental practices from general dentistry to periodontics. Her experience also included working for HMO, PPO and Private pay offices. She became familiar with the different ways these offices were run. Twenty-five of these years were spent practicing dental hygiene in South Florida and becoming very familiar with the inner workings that made successful dental offices. Annette later moved to North Florida, where she also owned and helped run several businesses with her husband Steve, along with still practicing Dental hygiene. This led to a need for acquiring bookkeeping skills. In January of 2016, Annette's husband passed away and she made the decision to change her life and have a more flexible career in order to spend time with her teenage son and be at all his school events. She however, did not want to waste her years of knowledge in the dental industry and her passion for helping people. So, she then went on to acquire more advanced training in the virtual bookkeeping world, which included mastering many of today's technologies available. She has become very active in bookkeeping mastermind groups and is one of the founding members in the Digital Bookkeeping Association. Annette has also worked virtually for a dental consulting firm learning more about dental specific bookkeeping. Becoming a Quickbooks ProAdvisor, using professional bookkeeping training and her many years of dental experience she formed her own bookkeeping firm, Bookkeeping Aesthetics, LLC. Her firm has put together the latest and most accurate systems to help dentists understand their practice better and build a healthy and more prosperous practice. Listen to this information-packed Financial Flossing episode, where Annette dispenses some financial pearls of wisdom from a bookkeeping perspective. Here is what to expect on this week's show: How Annette turned her previous experience in dentistry and her late husband's business experience into a dental bookkeeping firm when an unexpected tragedy struck How Annette uses the lexicons of both the dentistry world and the financial world to credibly assist her clients in a way they understand Why cash flow is king, and you should start money hoarding in case of emergency The importance of having a CPA who isn't just a specialist for dentists, but also, is a tax planner rather than a history reporter Ways to prevent falling victim to fraud, which happens to 60% of dentists Why you can't expect your CPA, bookkeeper, or financial advisor to wave a magic wand and make your financial problems go away Connect with Annette: WEBSITE: https://www.bookkeepingaesthetics.com/ LINKEDIN: https://www.linkedin.com/in/annettewoodsrdh/ FACEBOOK: https://www.facebook.com/BookkeepingAesthetics Learn more about your ad choices. Today the Biz Bros chat with Ean about what the Profit First cash management is all about! Ean Price Murphy founded Moxie Bookkeeping & Coaching in 2003 to make small business bookkeeping easy and useful, even to those who don't think of themselves as good with numbers. When the money makes sense, organizations thrive - - and so do their communities. Unlike other consultants, Ean isn't a Wall Street or corporate escapee - she has decades of first-hand knowledge of the challenges of being a small business owner with staff. Ean is a certified Mastery level Profit First Professional, Certified Fix This Next Advisor, Xero Platinum partner, Quickbooks ProAdvisor, and a certified business coach. We know small businesses lack clarity with their money stuff. The uncertainty can create paralysis and impact their ability to reach their goals. Using a proprietary system, Moxie gives you accurate books, actionable reports, and at-a-glance clarity, without crazy spreadsheets so that you go back to doing what you love in your business and kick back knowing you've handled the money stuff like the CEO that you are. All the ways Moxie Bookkeeping helps you be more powerful and your business more profitable are based on Profit First, a cash management system created by entrepreneur Mike Michalowicz. Profit First is mind-blowingly simple, yet effective. As we've taught clients to use the Profit First method, those who've used it have been significantly more profitable than those who didn't. Whether we're keeping your books or you're DIYing it, Profit First keeps you confident in your direction. Sure, you could read the Profit First book (and we encourage it), but our services add so much more, from answering the tough questions (“How do I handle my cost of goods sold in my operating expenses?”) to explaining every detail you need in terms you can understand. Also, we're way more fun. The Moxie process uses the Profit First cash management system to get you at a glance clarity into your financial position and give you a plan to follow to increase your take-home money. Show Notes | May 3, 2021 | Episode 102 What does laser tag have in common with landing a remote bookkeeping job? In this episode we’ll hear from Sara Core whose experience opening a family fun center made her a small business owner AND a remote employee at a Fortune 500 Best Places to Work company. In this installment of Certs That Get You #Hired we’re exploring two certifications in Finance that can make you more marketable, and if there’s one thing we’ve learned since digging into the remote work space - it is very Finance friendly. We have two military veterans who are telling us how the Enrolled Agent license and QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification helped their careers. They’ll cover: How did you get your cert? Why did you pursue it?Where did it lead you?Why is it so effective in maintaining your remote career? These certifications are requirements to landing a role with VirtForce hiring partner Intuit, who offers some amazing professional development opportunities as well as fully remote, salary W-2 careers. Intuit actually pays for you to study for the courses you need to obtain these two certs, if you qualify for the position. That was the case for Sara when she pursued the ProAdvisor cert with Intuit. Sara was in the Army Reserves as a heavy equipment operator while going to school to become a brain surgeon. After she got married and had a family, she decided to pivot her career goals and find a job that would be better for a mom who wanted to spend more time with her kids. Sara and her sister decided to go into business together and open a family entertainment center with laser tag and bumper cars. To run the books for their business Sara learned QuickBooks, an accounting software package developed and marketed by Intuit. After getting the family fun center up and running, Sara wanted a job she could do from home so she could also homeschool her children, so she investigated becoming a ProAdvisor for QuickBooks Live. ProAdvisors offer live bookkeeping services to small and medium-sized business so business owners can spend more time focusing on running their own companies. Those who are interested in obtaining this free certification can use Intuit’s online learning modules and take the exam up to three times. At first Sara wasn’t sure if she had enough bookkeeping exposure, but she soon realized by balancing the books for her own business she had a lot more experience than she thought. On a day-to-day basis, Sara has appointments with clients who have questions about QuickBooks, or issues with their books. In the middle of her career she moved from California to Florida and kept her job through it all, so this is a great option for military spouses who often PCS. For anyone sitting on the fence about becoming a QuickBooks Live Bookkeeper, Sara says go for it! She is now part of a team and has bonuses and incentives through Intuit while getting exposure to different clients and companies. Tune in to also hear the story of Vikki Crawford, an Air Force veteran who after obtaining her Enrolled Agent license – the highest award bestowed by the IRS – landed a role as a remote full-service tax expert with Intuit AND runs her own tax and accounting business. Intuit did not hold Vikki back or lock her into a position where she couldn’t be an entrepreneur. Intuit offers a way for employees hired in the non-credentialed tax associate role to get their EA license through Fast Forward Academy. Even if you have just one tax season of experience Intuit will hire you and accept you into the program. There is no cost for the training and Intuit pairs you with a mentor who has balanced working while studying to get their EA license. Once you pass the exam you move into the credentialed tax expert role. Although Intuit’s roles are remote and virtual there is a strong sense of camaraderie amongst team members. Employees have a lot of resources at their disposal and...

Amy Vetter, author, technologist, and CEO of The B3 Method Institute, joined us for this episode of Life In Accounting, the Where Accountants Go podcast. Amy's earliest influencer regarding accounting was the legacy her grandfather left the family: He was a CPA. Her mother talked about her grandfather and how big a part of his life being a CPA was, and it had a dramatic positive influence in her early years. She saw it as a path for both career safety and security. Launching Into Parenthood and Business Her career started as many do, working a few internships and then joining a national accounting firm – KPMG in her case. However, after having a difficult pregnancy that resulted in a premature delivery, she decided that she needed additional flexibility and moved on so that she could work from home. Amy started a bookkeeping service, AV Accounting Services, and attained her QuickBooks ProAdvisor certification. Accounting Tech After about 9 years with her bookkeeping service, she had become well-versed in accounting software solutions and was recruited to work full-time with Intuit. That started a season in her career where she had the opportunity to not only work with Intuit, but then to move on and work with both Sage and Xero as well. However, after working for so many years in the technology space, she realized that she wanted to do even more to make life better for accounting professionals. It was at that point that The B3 Method Institute was born. B3 Business + Balance = Bliss. Coming from her background in yoga (yes, she owns a yoga studio as well), this is Amy's formula for happiness and success in both career and life. She frequently speaks at conferences on the concept of becoming a “cherished advisor”, which is also a term she coined describing the role that we fill when we as accountants are acting at the highest level possible with our clients. We not only are trusted, but we are cherished for the value we bring. If you'd like to find out more about both concepts, make sure to check out her book at https://www.amyvetter.com/books. I hope you find value in this episode for not only your career, but your overall outlook on your life as well. For other episodes you may enjoy, please check out Robina Bennion and Mariette Martinez. As a business owner, how many hats do you wear on a daily basis? You have HR considerations to tend to, marketing initiatives to deploy, accounts payable to manage… and that's not even taking into consideration why you got into business in the first place. Our guest Amy Smith, a small business owner herself, knows all about the struggle. Amy is also a QuickBooks ProAdvisor here at Rea (just another hat she manages to balance), and on this episode of unsuitable, she shares some of the common pitfalls business owners have to grapple with and why the secret to rising above many of these challenges may just lie in good bookkeeping practices. Why are good books so important? If you are a construction company and you need new equipment in an emergency, the bank won't help you when your books are a mess. And if you don't have good books when you do your tax planning, you may end up with a bill in April that you are not prepared for. But if your books are always up-to-date, it's like owning a map of where your business is going; you can be proactive, instead of being forced to react when you take a wrong turn. If you are a business owner, you will be interested in these other topics discussed in this episode: Why keeping good books is all about good bookkeeping habits, not the software you use, and what the best habits are. What a balance sheet is (and the value of a strong balance sheet). When you may want to call a professional bookkeeper (even if it's just for a quick check up). Want to learn more? Amy is running a series of QuickBooks® For Business Success seminars in Zanesville and Marietta. You can learn more about these events and RSVP on Rea's Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/pg/reacpa/events/. Contractor Success Map with Randal DeHart | Contractor Bookkeeping And Accounting Services
This Podcast Is Episode Number 0157 And It Will Be Nine Reasons Why Contractors Outsource Bookkeeping To ProAdvisors Having used QuickBooks for 25+ years and helping 1,000's of contractors here are the top 9 reasons Contractors contact me since I am one of the few QuickBooks ProAdvisor specializing in Construction Accounting. Do any of these scenarios sound like what you may be dealing with on a regular basis in your Construction Contracting company… As a Contractor, you may have learned your trade from a skilled master craftsman or Journeyman that was your teacher and mentor for a few days to a few years. If you were fortunate your mentor was someone who also learned from a skilled master craftsman or Journeyman and they both had developed good habits of continually reading books, trade journals, attending seminars and paying for class room instruction in order to keep themselves updated with the changes in their industry. To paraphrase Stephen Covey they continually sharpen the saw "Sharpen the Saw means preserving and enhancing the greatest asset you have--you. It means having a balanced program for self-renewal in the four areas of your life: physical, social/emotional, mental, and spiritual. "Most Contractors don't want to waste time and energy being a "desk jockey" pushing paper around and banging away on a keyboard trying to make QuickBooks do what they want it to. You have a business to run and all too often you run it by trial and error learning the hard way, by experience what makes your company run more smoothly and what needs to be fixed. No matter what kind of construction, service work, home builder, trade contractor, tenant improvement contractor, land developer, handyman or other type of Contractor the key to success and making a lot of money is knowing your business inside and out and applying the following Randalism: "Early To Bed, Early To Rise, Know Your Numbers And Advertise" - Randalism The good news is there are a number of valuable tools to help you understand and manage your Construction Company’s profitability with programs like QuickBooks. The bad news is that QuickBooks is getting harder to use as they add more options and applications which can overwhelm and stop a contractor like you in your tracks. Reason #01 You may find QuickBooks isn’t giving you everything you need to operate and grow your Contracting Company. You may need some training for yourself or your bookkeeper to understand how to use QuickBooks. Perhaps you have been using the world's most popular bookkeeping software Excel, your shoe box full of receipts are overflowing and you are eager to get on the automated record reporting bandwagon.Reason #02 Switching to QuickBooks gives is a good start, but a QuickBooks ProAdvisor who really understands the difference between regular accounting and construction accounting can save you 100's hours of frustration, $1,000's of dollars in overpaid taxes, mishaps that can sap your energy and your time and give you false readings about the health of your business and help you capture lost revenue opportunities. Reason #03 You want to get more out of QuickBooks and you have heard your competitors brag how much QuickBooks has done for them and you want some of that too! You know that you are only using a fraction of most programs on your computer especially if you have Microsoft Word or Excel on it and you know owning and installing QuickBooks won’t make you a Highly Skilled Construction Accountant With 10+ Years' Experience Working On Construction Sites and be able to magically address all of your Strategic Contractor Bookkeeping Services needs. You need answers to understand the reasons behind the numbers and you need to save time. When faced with challenges like these, you need to know more than just the basics of how QuickBooks works. Your trainer at the Gym helps you get more from your workout and your QuickBooks ProAdvisor who understands construction accounting and how things work on a construction site can help you get more out of QuickBooks and save you time and money! Reason #04 You need Job Costs Reports and the facts are that job costs, and profitability are welded together. If you don’t have QuickBooks Setup properly for Job Costing in a way that reflects your Contracting Company’s specific needs you may be missing out on all of the value job costs reports can offer you which means your cash-flow and profits will suffer. Job costing should not be a frantic last-minute attempt to figure out why your profits for the previous year were less than you expected and what you planned at the beginning of the year. A QuickBooks ProAdvisor specializing in construction Accounting can setup QuickBooks job stage reporting for estimated and actual costs. We can also help you scale your reporting to track fixed-price, time & materials, and cost-plus job results accurately.Reason #05 Your Profit & Loss Report, Balance Sheet and other numbers look funny or they are flat out wrong! Having accurate numbers is essential to understanding where the leaks are happening in your business. Little leaks sink big ships and construction firms because they are easy to ignore until it is too late. If you are not keeping current with reconciling bank accounts, credit cards, and loans they can get out of control real quick! A QuickBooks ProAdvisor specializing in construction Accounting can bring the numbers into focus and fix months or even years of bookkeeping errors fast and easy. Reason #06 Your reports are outdated. The Herculean task of keeping up with the daily operational details of operating and growing a profitable Construction Company like yours can run you and your family in the ground. And if you don’t have the information at your fingertips to know exactly how your cash flow, profits, breakeven and benchmarking you won’t have time to make “course corrections” before your company leaves the highway of success, crashes in the ditch, upside down, tires spinning, engulfed in flames while you stand there looking at it, wide eyed, mouth open, gasping for breath with tear stained cheeks wondering what happened. A QuickBooks ProAdvisor specializing in construction Accounting can train you, and your team, how to get online financial management reports without ever having to open QuickBooks. Reason #07 You have file management and security concerns. QuickBooks helps you collect, organize and report your data yet you may be worried about remote access, privacy and security limitations. Do you need to access QuickBooks from the office, home and when you are on the road? Is QuickBooks crashing and running slower lately?A QuickBooks ProAdvisor specializing in construction Accounting with access to QuickBooks Desktop in the Cloud could be the answer you seek. All of the convenience of QuickBooks Online with all of the power and functionality of QuickBooks Desktop. Reason #08 You need more cash flow and profits to operate and grow your business. Too many Contractors struggle with finding and creating job profitability (gross profit) that will yield a fat bottom line. You need to have a clear understanding of how to come up with the right labor costs and profit margins for your construction jobs while managing your company’s overhead, operating costs, and expansion. You need to Optimize Vs. Maximize. A QuickBooks ProAdvisor specializing in construction Accounting can review your Job Profitability Reports and help you see and understand the 80/20 Rule For Construction Companies and how you can use it to reap massive harvests of cash flow and profits. The 80/20 Rule Can Make You A Lot Of Money! For example:· 20% of your customers normally generate 80% of your net profit. · 20% of the goods or services you sell contribute 80% of your revenue· 20% or 2 out of 10 of your staff create 80% of the value for your customers. The frightening consequence of the 80/20 rule is that 8 out of 10 hours we spend at work drive almost no value to the bottom line and the biggest drain is trying to save money doing our own contractor bookkeeping instead of reviewing the Key Performance Indicator (KPI) Reports. Through our contractors bookkeeping services system you can access them 24/7 without opening QuickBooks for Contractors. The most important value good bookkeeping brings to a business is an understanding of where your 20% is hidden. By generating daily reports that uncover the best customers, jobs, services, or products, you will soon see how you can refocus your internal efforts on doing more good work. This is the great contribution a company receives from good QuickBooks® data and from using QuickBooks® the ‘right-way’. Reason #09 The final, and best, reason to work with A QuickBooks ProAdvisor specializing in construction Accounting is you don’t have to understand construction accounting or be intimidated by someone who does! This podcast is episode number 00064 and it will be about QuickBooks Support Hold Time I love QuickBooks Because It Does So Much For Contractors! When QuickBooks was first released as a DOS version in 1992 we purchased a copy and tried it and within three months we switched our entire construction division and our bookkeeping service division that served a few small contractor clients from another well-known construction accounting software to QuickBooks and have been happy as clams at high-tide ever since. In the 1990's I found QuickBooks technical support to be absolutely awful and for all practical purposes non-existent. The problem was two-fold; early desktop computers were unreliable and would break-down, lock-up and stop for any number of reasons and QuickBooks was like a two year old child learning to walk which meant it would crash, fall-down, lock-up and stop regularly. Most QuickBooks users who had contacted QuickBooks technical support in the early days would be on the verge of a nervous breakdown or inclined to say their Sunday School Lesson backwards if you know what I mean. In time, QuickBooks and the parent company Intuit made massive improvements both in the software and the technical support and desktop computers got better and more reliable. In my opinion, it all peaked in early 2004. In early 2004, it seemed most if not all QuickBooks support was being sent to overseas call centers and staffed by good people with the best intentions and big hearts that really wanted to help but could not speak English. It appeared the only way to get useful QuickBooks support meant users needed to pay for it so that is why we invested $599.00 a year to join the QuickBooks ProAdvisor Program and is one of the best investments we every made and that is why we continue investing $599.00 every year to remain a QuickBooks ProAdvisor. However, lately when we have needed to call QuickBooks support line for ProAdvisors the wait times are approximately one hour. The good news is when we do get through the QuickBooks technical support folks really know their stuff and the issue always gets handled. If you are a construction contractor using QuickBooks or you have someone in your office using QuickBooks perhaps you should consider investing $599.00 per year to join the ProAdvisor Program. Or perhaps if you want to have access to folks who specialize in QuickBooks For Contractors we could be of service. We offer specialized support for construction companies. Many small business can’t stay up with technology, don’t typically have a CIO (Chief Information Officer) or CFO (Chief Financial Officer) due to financial constraints, and so they lean heavily on intermediaries like “rent a CFO” or "rent a CIO” which is a lot of what the system integrator – “QuickBooks ProAdvisor” crowd is becoming.
Today on Grassroots Marketing we are live at USCC Expo in Miami Florida, and we are speaking to Sandy Suchoff CPA, Founder of Lefstein-Suchoff CPA & Associates, LLC, The Canna CPAs.
