While some political parties have welcomed the enactment of the Expropriation Bill, some including those in the GNU, have voiced strong opposition with the DA threatening legal action against the government it is a part of. This follows President Cyril Ramaphosa's signing of the contentious Expropriation Bill into law on Thursday. The DA's very own Dean Macpherson will be responsible for enforcing the Expropriation Act as minister of public works and infrastructure. Some legal experts and agricultural economists seem more relaxed about the bill than politicians who doubt whether the Act provides for adequate and fair compensation. While the law will be tested in court millions of South Africans, who have waited 30 years, will have to wait a little longer to see if the Act will redress land ownership. To discuss whether the newly enacted Expropriation Bill will fundamentally overhaul land ownership in South Africa Bongiwe Zwane spoke to Nkanyiso Gumede, Researcher at the Institute for Poverty, Land and Agrarian Studies and Siya Sithole, Strategy Manager at the Association for Rural Advancement - AFRA - a land rights advocacy organisation working to support marginalised black rural people
After many years of space exploration, what was once science fiction is now a reality – and a thriving industry. The space economy is predicted to grow at twice the speed of GDP over the next 10 years. Which is great news for the people in spacesuits, the people at ground control and the entrepreneurs behind it all. But what does it mean for the rest of us? As infinity and beyond moves closer into view, there's a lot to be explored. And although we're not entirely sure what's out there, experts suspect we could find answers to some of our planet's most pressing problems. Things like the climate emergency, energy sources, and economic and humanitarian concerns. So, how do we ensure that we're exploring the final frontier to its fullest and that the solutions discovered are brought back to benefit everyone? In this episode of The Green Room we ask whether we can all win from the space race with Professor Brian Cox, physicist, author and presenter and Mollie Martin, Strategy Manager in Deloitte Innovation & Ventures' SpaceTech team. Tune in to find out: Why we're at a critical moment in the space race Which space-led discoveries are benefitting us today The ideas that Brian Cox discussed with Jeff Bezos How space exploration could change how we work Enjoyed this episode? I've chosen to release this episode of Tuesday 3rd December to tie-in with International Day of Person's with a Disability. Beth has recently been listed as one of the most influential disabled people in the UK in the Shaw Trust Disability Power 100. 11 years into her career and feeling burned out, Beth took a sabbatical from her corporate role to reset, continue her disability work, and gain her professional qualification in Interior Design with the National Design Academy. Horticulture New Zealand is pushing the government to follow through with its veggie production commitments. A new Institute of Economic Research report reveals prices could skyrocket under proposed regulations to reduce nitrogen runoff, with broccoli potentially jumping to $9 a head. Horticulture New Zealand Strategy Manager Michelle Sands told Mike Hosking that at the moment fresh fruit and vegetable growing and supply isn't recognised as a matter of national importance for New Zealanders. She says the current rules would prevent growers from rotating their crops, which would negatively impact soil health and could seriously threaten vegetable production. Entrepreneurs are problem solvers, and Jo Goodall is using her problem-solving skills to achieve her goal of improving access to healthcare education! In this episode, Jo shares the story of how her company, Luna, came into being, how they have leaned heavily on their community to turn Luna into the invaluable resource it is today, the importance of being open to continuous evolution as a business owner, and some of the lessons she didn't learn in business school! About Jo Goodall:Jo is the co-founder of Luna, the UK's first health and wellbeing app specifically for girls and non-binary teens aged 11-17 years old. Prior to founding Luna, she was a Management Consultant at Deloitte and Strategy Manager at the fashion retailer Boden. Fun fact: she cycled solo from Yorkshire to Vienna (over 1000 miles) in two weeks! Episode highlights: Being an entrepreneur gives you the opportunity to solve problems. Jo and her co-founder realized that kids are often left to their own devices (literally and figuratively) when it comes to learning about health-related issues, and they decided to do something to change that. A good place to start your entrepreneurial journey is with a problem that you feel passionate about solving! (02:06) The people in your community are your greatest teachers! Let their feedback guide you to create the version of your product or service that best suits their needs. (11:58) The world is constantly evolving, and so should you and your business! As an entrepreneur, it's important to be continuously learning and growing alongside your business so that it doesn't fade into obscurity. (20:22) Watch your numbers closely! Business school doesn't teach you how to manage your finances. Check your bank account, don't overhire, and make sure you have enough cash flow to keep going - you have a real responsibility to real people when you are running a business in the real world (24:14) Jo's best advice for entrepreneurs:“As the business grows, you have to extend your horizons and reach as an entrepreneur.” (20:49)Connect with Jo: LinkedIn Instagram Website Follow Beyond 8 Figures: LinkedIn Twitter Website

And I wanted to really become an expert, in this case, in emotional intelligence, helping kids, and even adults, develop what we call soft skills in the real world. The biggest barrier she sees in undergraduate and graduate students and how to overcome itI see this need to feel prepared and somehow never feeling quite prepared enough and needing to be doing other things in order to pursue what ultimately we are interested in. Simply put, Golden Visas are European residency by investment programs, also known as investor visa Europe, that let an individual obtain a temporary or permanent European residency by investment permit in the given country. The "golden" part is that you're getting an EU residency permit and not just some random island in the middle of the ocean. The European residency by investment is also a "golden" opportunity to gain access to these investor visa EU countries that offer a high standard of living, a familiar western culture, the charm and history of Europe, and a strong passport (most European residency by investment programs can lead to citizenship, though it's not guaranteed). It doesn't matter what you call it: a Golden Visa, residence by investment, or an immigrant investor program. What is essential, and plain as day, is that the investment immigration industry in Europe has grown immensely. 2019 was a record year, with various residence and citizenship programs bringing in a staggering €5.5 billion in the region. It more than doubled in just four short years. There's no doubt it will exponentially grow in the near future. These EU Golden Visa programs have been around for less than a decade but have been making waves of impact. In this video Jelena Sivcev, our Strategy Manager, shares all golden visa programs in 2023. The guest on today's episode is Drey Hilton, He is the Strategy Manager at Dragonflycommerce. He focuses on growing acquired brands by breaking down silos, driving collaboration, and doing the hard things. Using his consulting and Fortune 500 experience, he leverages his expertise to navigate international complexity, drive organizational simplicity, and achieve outsized growth while maintaining profitability. In today's episode, he discusses about how to expand the amazon business into international marketplaces. Takeaways:The seller needs two key things to start selling in the UK, They are VAT ID and importer of record. The best way to find an importer on record is to find a compliance service provider through the amazon seller partner network.Need to get a good idea of taxes when expanding to avoid losses. When selling to European countries look around the neighboring tariffs to find better flexibilities you can comply with.Think local but act global.Getting a clearance from a tariff expert is the best thing to do for your business.Quote of the Show:The bigger volume between Canadian and European Markets will be the European Market. The U.K. is the 3rd or 4th of the European Economy as a whole due to Brexit. Then within the EU itself, you have major players such as Germany, France, Italy, and Spain. In addition, you have the downstream countries.Links:Personal – Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/in/dreytonhiltonecommercestrategy/ Dragonfly – Linkedin: https://www.linkedin.com/company/dragonflycommerce/ Dragonfly – Website: https://www.dragonflycommerce.com/ Ways to Tune In:Apple Podcast (Leave a Review)iHeart RadioSpotifyGoogle PodcastAmazon MusicStitcherYoutubeAmazon Legends is sponsored by Argometrix, the authority on, and a leading supplier of, competitive intelligence for online retail. Jackie talks about realizing and taking active steps in reducing carbon footprints. She shares with us some very interesting and disturbing facts about water consumption and usage in the industry. She also shares in our excitement about the Pacific Hackers Association conference, where she is the Keynote Speaker, November 18-19th, 2022. Jackie talks about how the internet is really just reaching a state of maturity. How it was considered a novelty or entertainment early on, and how it has become an integral part of our daily lives now. She discusses how our past short term thought processes in terms of infrastructure are now being rethought going forward into this next maturity phase. This heavily concerns how we don't realize how much water is used in the industry. We only see what we get, we don't realize how much irreplaceable resources are being consumed to provide this. With the increased need for ML and AI we need more servers which only makes this issue more prevalent. There has been a recent explosion of space companies, and all of them are looking for funding. That means there is also a lot of opportunity for venture capital firms looking to invest in space companies, and our guest on this edition of The Ex Terra Podcast has a good deal of experience in that realm. Jeff Crusey has been a Product Manager, a Senior Analyst at a VC, a company Co-Founder, a Strategy Manager at ViaSat, a VC with Sepharim Space, as well as an Angel investor for Space/Military Manufacturing Startups Epsilon3 and True Anomaly. He knows his way around Venture capital ... often abbreviated as VC ... is a form of private equity financing that is provided by venture capital firms or funds. They generally invest in startups, early-stage, and emerging companies that have been deemed to have high growth potential, or which have demonstrated high growth in terms of number of employees, annual revenue, scale of operations, and other factors. Venture capital firms or funds invest in these early-stage companies in exchange for equity, or an ownership stake. Venture capitalists take on the risk of financing risky start-ups in the hopes that some of the firms they support will become successful. On the podcast, Jeff talks with host Tom Patton about the state of the commercial space industry in comparison to Silicon Valley in the late '70s and early '80s; how current events affect how companies invest; the perception that there is are many opportunities for venture capital investing in space, and; what market niches exist that an entrepreneur might look to fill. How does what happens in space affect your everyday life? The Ex Terra podcast is dedicated to introducing you to many of the interesting people involved in the commercial space industry, and taking you behind the scenes with many of the companies making significant contributions to the new space economy. The podcast is available on Anchor, Spotify, Apple Podcasts, Google Podcasts, Breaker, Overcast, Pocketcasts and Radio Public.

Aaron Joseph is Senior Vice President of Investor Solutions at Blue Vista Capital Management, a Chicago-based real estate investment manager focused in particular on middle market equity, student housing and real estate credit. He previously worked as Deputy Sustainability Officer in the Office of the Mayor in the city of Chicago, and as a Strategy Manager at Urban Partnership Bank focused on providing banking services for impact capital and urban real estate investors. Our conversation starts with Aaron's family upbringing, the promise of inclusion that brought them to the Oak Park area outside Chicago and his early interest in art history. We trace his path to real estate, which actually meandered through engineering, which is where his interest in sustainability first took root. We follow his path into the Urban Partnership Bank, and the focus on impact that that had - whether to combat red-lining or extend credit to disenfranchised populations, many of whom were essentially "unbanked". Aaron spent time in the high-profile Mayor's Office of the City of Chicago, where he saw the usual policy and political battles, but also the efficacy of some measures to ensure sustainable change and more equity. We move then to his current role at Blue Vista, and cycle through the various sectors that they focus on - including in particular student housing and more esoteric areas such as RV parks and self-storage. We examine the rapidly changing dynamics in these areas and why the investment opportunity might be less obvious, but nonetheless compelling. We end with Aaron's reflections on his career to date, how his learnings in Latin at Oak Park and River Forest High School taught him to "carpe diem" or seize the day, and how the leaving his MBA studies during a financial crisis taught him some essential survival and adaptation skills professionally. Founded in 2005, Alvine Capital is a specialist advisor and placement boutique focusing on assisting European Institutional Investors within Alternative Investments. It partners with best in class managers, adding value to investors by helping to navigate this very fragmented market
