It's triple D today: Denis, David, and Dana. That's right—Denis Leary, aka Conan O'Brien's comedy cousin, joins the pod to reminisce about the Boston comedy scene of the '80s, including his time at Emerson College's Comedy Workshop. Denis gets into why he never did Saturday Night Live—even though he would've landed there during the guys' era—and reflects on his iconic film roles, including Demolition Man, plus what it was like golfing with Sylvester Stallone. Send a textTwo country boys hit Atlanta for the Dallas Safari Club Expo and come home with a year's worth of stories, hard-won tips, and new friends from across the hunting world. We start with a chaotic travel day—dead battery on the plane, a tarmac standoff, and a near-miss at a crosswalk—then step into the Georgia World Congress Center and realize just how big DSC really is. With more than 1,300 booths and outfitters from over 43 countries, it's a living map of global hunting, conservation, and gear innovation. We meet TV icons Ralph and Vicki from Archer's Choice, shake hands with Mr. Whitetail himself, Larry Weishuhn, and connect with DSC leadership on why the show's funding model matters: grants for habitat, education, and anti-poaching. A South African outfitter lays out Botswana's elephant math—land that can carry around 75,000 elephants now holds more than 150,000—making a clear case for science-based management. On the North American front, an Alaskan captain opens our eyes to a sleeper DIY blacktail hunt in the panhandle with accessible tags and high densities.Seminars deliver real field value. Dan Adler's glassing masterclass shows how scanning right to left slows your brain and helps you catch the small, wrong-shaped details that give animals away. We get a primer on long-range thinking, then pivot to Craig Boddington's Cape buffalo insights—angles, bullets, and the look that says you “owe it money.” The floor itself is a wonder: jaw-dropping taxidermy, museum-quality replicas for restricted imports, premium optics, Kenetrek boots, Holland & Holland and Rigby, and a $238,000 double in .700 Nitro that we admired more than we dared handle. Add Ox Ranch's tanks and machine guns, plus the history and scale of King Ranch, and the spectrum from tradition to adrenaline comes into focus. The curveball? A late-night wander through a locked-down film set where Tulsa King shoots under cranes and fog. We watch the same scene run a dozen times, then a blacked-out van glides by with the cabin light on and Sylvester Stallone five feet away—scrolling, smoking, and still larger than life. We leave with future podcast guests booked, better glassing habits, and new perspective on how conservation, community, and adventure intersect. If you enjoyed this story-packed ride, follow the show, share it with a friend, and drop a quick rating or review—your support helps us bring more experts and epic hunts to your feed.Check us out on Facebook Hunts On Outfitting, or myself Ken Marr. This week on Oil & Whiskey, we're joined by Ron Jones and the crew from Ron Jones Garage for a wide-ranging conversation that goes way beyond just the cars.We get into what it really means to build cars as art not transportation. Fabrication vs. CNC. Skill vs. creativity. Can you actually “quantify” craftsmanship? Or is it all part of the secret sauce that makes this industry what it is?The guys talk about trusting clients who hand over the keys and the checkbook, building cars that stir up strong opinions online, and why sometimes the most polarizing builds are the ones that matter most.Of course, it wouldn't be Oil & Whiskey without:• The ongoing Burt Reynolds vs. Sylvester Stallone debate• Favorite car movies (and some strong opinions)• Wild speeding ticket stories• Shop life, hustle mentality, and allocating your “resources” the right way• And maybe a few bottles getting killed along the wayGrab official Oil & Whiskey gear at oilandwhiskey.com. Today, we're chatting with Monica and Scotti, a mother-daughter team behind CS80 Vintage who are rediscovering the 80s in a way neither of them expected. Monica, who once worked in sporting goods and later built a career in photography and organizing – helping people deal with large-scale hoards and inventories, stumbled into a massive vintage collection during the pandemic. When the original owner, Franz, passed after years of illness, the inventory — tucked into basements, an attic, gazebos, and storage pods — just sat. Nobody knew what to do with it. Her daughter, Scotti, now 23, grew up thrifting and has always loved vintage – now she's helping mom preserve an incredible archive of true 1980s deadstock sportswear. Neither Monica or Scotti set out to be vintage dealers. They've learned from conversations with experts and mentors and midnight eBay searches, like we all do. They have uncovered what turns out to be — by the account of multiple experts — one of the largest deadstock vintage sportswear collections ever found: 10,000 pairs of sneakers, thousands of hats, blanks, jerseys, satin jackets, and more. Every single piece true deadstock, never worn, straight from the warehouse. On today's show, they'll share how they did it. All the sales strategies, collaborations and pop-ups. Scotty came home, built a website from scratch, launched their Instagram in December, and within two weeks had gained 28,000 followers. How their drops sell out reaching collectors from Paris to Japan. A pair of boxing shoes sold to a film produced by Sylvester Stallone. Their clothes filled the set of a Target x Stranger Things commercial. But more than any of that, this is a story about honoring Franz's life work, about a mother and daughter collaboration, and about what it means to be the unexpected stewards of something rare. It's a really really good one — let's dive in. DISCUSSED IN THE EPISODE: [5:57] How Monica and Scotti came into the largest deadstock vintage sportswear collections known to exist. [12:21] How they started to discover the value of this collection. [14:14] A mentor warned Monica she could "destroy the vintage market" — and the responsibility to sell slowly. [15:12] Their first major sale was a buyer from Japan at the Alameda Flea Market — the moment Monica and her husband realized what they really had. [19:00] Scotti came home, launched a website for CS80 and started Instagram sales. [21:49] How pricing works differently depending on geography, buyer, and context — and why the story behind CS80 commands higher prices than comparable pieces. [24:07] Honoring Franz's life work and what it means to be the unexpected stewards of something so rare. [30:32] Most surprising finds and holy grail collector moments [33:56] What they've learned about vintage labels and how a single label difference can change value by hundreds of dollars. [39:53] What happens when CS80 sells the last deadstock piece? [47:43] Favorite personal pieces they've kept, and what comes next. Jesse James LeijaTake a walk with me down Fascination Street as I get to know San Antonio's very own Jesse James Leija. Jesse is a 2-time world champion boxer; having won the WBC belt in 1994 and the IBA belt in 1998. In this episode, we chat about growing up in San Antonio, and the series of events that led him to become a fighter. We also dive into a couple of his fights; especially his 4-fight series against Azuma Nelson. The Champ explains the difference between being a 'tough' fighter, and a 'smart' fighter, and then we jump into why his father was his trainer for Jesse's entire career. Along the way, Jesse James shares stories of hanging out with Sylvester Stallone, and even how he managed to sneak his way into a meeting with Muhammad Ali himself! I ask him about some of his other fights with Sugar Shane Mosely, Louie Espinoza, Arturo Gatti, and Oscar De La Hoya; before we trade opinions on the new spectacle of "boxing" involving Jake Paul, and what that is doing to the sport of boxing. Jesse James Leija is an advocate for mental health, started The Miracle League of San Antonio, owns Leija Boxing and Fitness gym, has the longest running charity golf tournament in San Antonio, and even started his own charitable foundation called The Leija Family Foundation. We touch on ALL of these things and more! Jesse James Leija has been a fixture in the city and is a name I have known for as far back as I can remember. It was an honor to speak with such a fantastic steward of my hometown. THIS IS EPISODE #500! THANK YOU, STREETWALKERS!!

Before embarking on a new season next week, this is the third and final instalment of our 2025 clip shows, featuring the best of our recent conversations over the last 12 months. From debating the anatomical accuracy of kangaroo prosthetics to Danny “Boyling” down the legendary career of the British filmmaker, we're covering all cinematic bases. Join us for the usual film discussion and tangents as we ponder the filmmaking “genius” of Renny Harlin and why Sylvester Stallone's head looks like it was pasted onto a car with glue and a prayer. We also give flowers to the likes of Lori Petty, Jeff Bridges and Burt Reynolds, while wondering if Michael Ironside and Roy Scheider were the ultimate “fish guys” of the 90s. What to expect from the show: Discover why Ron Perlman was sadly passed over for the role of a mutant kangaroo. Hear the disturbing search for a lost, degraded silicone prosthetic from the Stann Winston estate. Learn how Davina McCall was nearly elevated from host of Streetmate to a Spice Girl. Dan defends his yearly tradition of watching Driven, despite Sarah's best efforst to leave the room. We speculate whether a talking dolphin in SeaQuest DSV is actually the peak of 90s television. Sarah reveals her dark past as a digital deity who tortured The Sims with clown paintings and lack of sanitation. The American Pie franchise gets a gritty, environmental reboot involving socks and methane. Find out why locking the butler in the freezer in Tomb Raider 2 is a universal gaming experience. Daylight (1996) is a high-intensity disaster thriller starring Sylvester Stallone as former EMS Chief Kit Latura, a man forced back into action when a catastrophic explosion seals off the Holland Tunnel between New York and New Jersey. Directed by Rob Cohen, this 90s action survival film blends explosive practical effects, claustrophobic tension, and classic Stallone heroics. When a chain-reaction accident involving toxic waste trucks ignites a massive fireball inside the tunnel, dozens of survivors become trapped underground with limited oxygen and rising water levels. Stallone's character must guide a group of strangers through collapsing walls, smoke-filled corridors, and psychological panic in a desperate race against time. The film co-stars Amy Brenneman, Viggo Mortensen, Dan Hedaya, and Stan Shaw, delivering strong ensemble performances that add emotional weight to the disaster spectacle.Daylight showcases large-scale practical tunnel sets, real water effects, and intense stunt work — a hallmark of big-budget 1990s action films. Produced during the peak era of Hollywood disaster movies like Twister and Volcano, the movie emphasizes human survival, teamwork, and redemption under pressure. With themes of sacrifice, leadership, and second chances, Daylight remains a gripping entry in Sylvester Stallone's 90s action filmography and a nostalgic favorite for fans of practical-effects disaster cinema. If you are new to the podcast then please consider following us on the platform that you love, we can be found most anywhere that you listen to your favorite podcasts. Say all you want about super hero movie fatigue, but kids today don't know how bad it can get. How bad, you ask? How about Marvel's first attempt at an R-rated movie based on one of their characters, played by a guy who's acting ability in the 80's was best summed up by Sylvester Stallone when he said “you gave that guy lines?” Hold on to your handlebars, it's going to be a bumpy ride as we look to see if 1989's The Punisher is not that bad. The man who saw seconds...”. This is a public episode. Steed and Jrad disagreed on a topic this week which led to the combination of multiple aka this sexiest paper vs cardboard episode of Chubstep.

Once Upon a Time in the world of professional boxing....Apollo Creed was the champion of the world. He eventually lost his title to Rocky Balboa (Sylvester Stallone who would receive an Oscar nomination for his performance in this film) who would also lose the title before winning it back with Apollo as his trainer. They remained very good friends right up until the day that Apollo tragically lost his life during an exhibition match against the feared Russian boxer, Ivan Drago. But did you know that Apollo actually had a son right before he died??That son is Adonis Johnson (Michael B. Jordan) and he has now become a boxer himself to the consternation of his mother (Phylicia Rashad), only he has been struggling to find some one who can train him. So one day he travels across the country to Philadelphia to seek out the former champion whom his father trained when he needed him the most.....and after some hesitation, Rocky decides to train him as he works his way up the professional boxing circuit. Along the way, Adonis also finds a companion in Philly with the lovely singer Bianca (Tessa Thompson) when suddenly, he has the opportunity to fight for the SAME boxing title which his father previously had. What results is one of the most beloved sports dramas of recent years directed by future Oscar-nominee Ryan Coogler (Black Panther, Sinners) as his first major studio film. Movies can suck. But movies that suck, are often the best! The Golden Raspebery Awards, aka, "The Razzies" started in the 1980s. This was the perfect time for Hollywood to get called out for its most excessive, over-the-top, and sometimes disastrous output, complete with a smirk and a deliberately tacky trophy made from a spray-painted golf ball. The deliberate anti-Oscars began as a sarcastic living-room gathering in 1981, sparked by a terrible double feature of Can't Stop the Music (fair) and Xanadu (how dare they!). It quickly turned into the annual roast of the decade's biggest cinematic failures. Disco musicals that should never have been made, bloated blockbusters that collapsed under their own weight, vanity projects, and action pictures that swung for the fences and missed badly. The 1980s supplied the Razzies with plenty of targets. It was a modest start - founder John J. B. Wilson passing out ballots in his Hollywood apartment, using a broomstick with a foam ball as a mock microphone. The event grew into something the press actually started covering by the middle of the decade. There were some recurring themes: musicals gone wrong, jungle-set misadventures, big-name stars stepping far outside their comfort zones, and the sheer nerve it took to release some of these films. No look at the Razzies of the 1980s is complete without Sylvester Stallone. He collected Worst Actor awards the way some people collect trophies: Rhinestone, Rambo: First Blood Part II and Rocky IV in the same year, Rambo III, and several others. He eventually earned Worst Actor of the Decade at the 1990 ceremony, covering the full 1980s output. His female counterpart for worst of the decade? The one and only, Bo Derek!Maybe the Razzies were right, but those same movies were the ones that played endlessly on VHS, get quoted in conversations, and still have some die hard audiences. This episode is about the laughs, the sheer absurdity of some of those productions, and the reminder that even in its most ridiculous moments, Hollywood in the 1980s was actually pretty awesome.
Rocky. We're talking about the glory of war, or rather the hollowness of it. Not just war though but the symbols of power and violence associated with any kind of conflict, from something like a sword or pistol, all the way up to fighter jets, tanks and warships. These are all objects that viscerally symbolise power more than anything else, whatever appeal they have is rooted in their ability to enable their wielder to actively make changes in the world and set themselves above others. But why "hollow"? Because war, injury and the exercise of power over others is NOT sexy or at all glorious, rather it's the worst possible thing you can experience. We talk about that contradiction. War and violence is often sexualised, and I use that term correctly in this instance unlike the people who talk about the "sexualisation of women"- adult people are sexual by definition and cannot be "sexualised", what they actually mean is "eroticised", the distinction is important. How is war and violence sexualised? We gender weapons in obvious ways, relating them to male and female genitalia, we name them and refer to them in gendered ways, we also strongly associate war and weapon imagery with gendered things- think of Sylvester Stallone as Rambo, bare muscled, sweating chest, thick, shaggy hair, an M-60 machine gun cradled in one arm blasting away while a chain of ammunition is draped across the other. Or the actors in Top Gun being all young, handsome, virile men, playing beach volleyball shirtless. Sarah Connor in Terminator 2, rippling with muscle, expertly handling assault rifles. The recruits in Starship Troopers, male and female, hitting the showers together. Wonder Woman pulling a sword from the back of her evening dress… All this imagery ensures we associate the exercise of power with adult sexuality and virility. The superficial interpretation is to see power, weapons, and war as all "masculine", but that is inadequate and facile because the lust for power, it's use and exercise is not limited by gender in any way, it's only been skewed to the masculine through historical sexism. As a young person I was seduced by the glorious imagery of war and weaponry through TV shows like Robotech and Starblazers, animes that make a specific point of venerating giant weapons in the form of transforming fighter jets, beweaponed mecha, and massive space battleships bristling with guns. Then of course there were things like the sword wielding Conan, The Three Musketeers, Robin Hood, King Arthur, Asterix and Obelix and their powerful fists, and all the heroes in WW2 movies fighting the good fight. It wasn't till adulthood when I began to question the appeal and allure of these things and realise the darkness they actually represent. But even though I better understand it now, I also realise that the attractiveness of power imagery is baked into my brain so it will always strike a chord with me, which is why I'm always exploring both sides of the equation in my comic Piny TA. As Tantz says in the Quackcast though: "The way to win is not to play". Wise words for two reasons; the best use of any type of weaponry from swords, to guns, to fighter-jets, to warships, or even nuclear missiles is to only have them for the purpose of intimidation, if you can achieve your objective without ever committing violence and horror you've truly won because you didn't destroy resources, create further issues, damage your weapon, lose lives from either side, risk losing, or create many further complications and the risk of reprisal. The other reason is based on another interpretation: don't play, don't venerate the exercise of power through the use of war and violence focussed imagery and symbolism, then you won't perpetuate it. Have you ever been at all moved by "heroic" imagery, the power fantasy of holding a weapon, or the imagery of "righteous war"? Braveheart and Lord of the Rings are two that many love because of this topic. This week, we review Demolition Man (1993), Marco Brambilla's explosive blend of sci-fi action and satirical social commentary. Originally Arnold Schwarzenegger and Sylvester Stallone were in mind to play the lead roles. When John Woo was brought in to direct, he decided that John Travolta and Nicolas Cage would be more suited to the roles. Other pairs that the studio wanted was Michael Douglas (who was the executive producer for this movie) and Harrison Ford, Bruce Willis and Alec Baldwin, Jean-Claude Van Damme and Steven Seagal, Denzel Washington and Wesley Snipes, and Robert De Niro and Al Pacino.Face/Off (1997)"To foil a terrorist plot, an FBI agent assumes the identity of the criminal who murdered his son via facial transplant surgery, but the crook wakes up prematurely and vows revenge." Welcome back, everyone, for the conclusion of my interview with Author and retired FBI Special Agent Seamus McElearney. Séamus McElearney began his distinguished career with the FBI in 1998, joining Squad C-10 of the New York Organized Crime Branch. Tasked with investigating the Bonanno and DeCavalcante crime families—infamously known as “the real Sopranos.” In December 1999, he was assigned to arrest Anthony Capo, a violent soldier in the DeCavalcante family, as part of a sweeping indictment. Not only did he safely execute the arrest, but he also achieved a historic breakthrough: persuading Capo to become the first made member in the family’s century-long history to cooperate with law enforcement. This unprecedented move triggered a domino effect of cooperation that ultimately led to the dismantling of the DeCavalcante family. In all, 71 defendants were convicted, and 11 murders were solved. Following this six-year investigation, Séamus was promoted to lead Squad C-38, overseeing the Colombo crime family. Under his leadership, the squad dismantled the Colombos through a series of operations—including spearheading the largest Mafia takedown in FBI history. As Supervisor, Séamus oversaw investigations that led to the conviction of more than 200 defendants and the resolution of 20 murders. Throughout his career as an Agent and Supervisor, Séamus helped convict ten Mafia bosses, recover five bodies, and solve the murder of an NYPD officer. He was part of historic FBI teams that dismantled three organized crime families—an achievement no one else can claim. Seamus is also the author of the popular book, Flipping Capo: How the FBI Dismantled the Real Sopranos. I’m a fan of the TV show The Sopranos, so it was amazing listening to Seamus explain how the “Real Sopranos” operated and how they were dismantled and brought to justice by Seamus and his team. Please enjoy my conversation with Seamus! In today’s episode, we discuss: · How he got Capo to flip. · Capo was a soldier in the mob. What is the rank system of the mob? · What is involved in a ‘made man’ ceremony? (Kissing rings, burning saints, etc...) · Why are we so fascinated with mobsters? · What is the FBI’s role in WITSEC? · How do you keep a rat safe if they are in jail or out on bail? · 9/11, how the FBI changed after that day. · How long did it take to put together the case against the DeCavalcante crime family? · How did the DeCavalcante crime family coexist with the five New York crime families? · Is it true that old-school mobsters didn’t mess with women or children? When did this change? · The Sopranos. What did Hollywood get right and wrong about mob life regarding The Sopranos? · The advice he would give to someone who wants to be an FBI agent. · Sylvester Stallone’s series, The Tulsa King.
