Reframing Masculinity   In this episode of Richer Soul, Brad Golphenee, a men's somatic coach and Director of Training & Education at Evryman shares his unique journey, his perspectives on personal growth, and his insights into the somatic healing process. Together, they explore the importance of connecting with one's body, healing from past traumas, and living a more present and fulfilling life. Key Takeaways: The Power of Somatic Healing: Brad emphasizes the significance of somatic work, helping individuals process emotions and traumas that are stored in the body. By addressing these physical manifestations of past experiences, people can release the binds that dictate their future. Living with Intentionality: Brad advocates for a lifestyle rooted in presence and awareness. He discusses the need to slow down, process emotions, and allow space for healing. Men's Mental Health and Growth: As a leader in men's coaching, Brad shares how important it is for men to feel safe in expressing emotions. He encourages men to connect with their bodies and emotions, which can lead to personal breakthroughs and deeper relationships. Retreats and Connection: Brad hosts multi-day retreats where men are encouraged to engage deeply with their emotions and personal stories. These retreats foster community and provide a safe space for personal transformation. Money Learning: Brad's childhood involved unconventional lessons around money. Growing up in mountain communities and living a non-materialistic lifestyle, he learned to value experiences over possessions. This mindset shaped his approach to money, focusing on earning what's needed without excessive worry about wealth accumulation. Brad highlights that while money is necessary, emotional well-being and connection hold more value in life. Bio: Brad Golphenee has been actively involved with men's groups for over 17 years and has a private coaching practice. He is the Director of Training & Education at Evryman, a leader in men's emotional health. A graduate of Somatic Experiencing International, Brad specializes in helping individuals complete emotional cycles from their past to live more present and fulfilled lives. He lives in Idaho with his wife, children, and an array of animals. Key Discussion Points: Brad's Early Life: Growing up in various mountain communities, Brad's family prioritized outdoor adventures and a simple lifestyle over material wealth. His parents made a bold decision to move from Southern California to the mountains, seeking a life closer to nature. The Role of Somatic Work: Brad explains how unresolved emotional trauma can manifest physically in the body. Through somatic coaching, he helps individuals process these traumas, allowing them to live with more freedom and peace. Personal Growth for Men: Brad talks about his work with men, focusing on creating environments where men can feel safe enough to express their emotions without judgment. His retreats are designed to help men reconnect with themselves and others on a deeper emotional level. The Healing Power of Community: A big believer in the power of connection, Brad discusses how men often find healing and strength in community. Through shared experiences and vulnerability, men can learn to support one another on their journeys to emotional well-being. Conclusion: Brad Golphenee's approach to personal growth through somatic work provides a unique perspective on emotional healing and well-being. His dedication to helping men connect with their emotions and bodies is transformative. Brad's story reminds us that living intentionally and being present in our bodies can lead to a richer, more fulfilled life. Whether through retreats or personal coaching, Brad's work is helping men break free from emotional blocks and live their most authentic lives.   Links: www.bradgolphenee.com www.evryman.com       Richer Soul Life Beyond Money. With forty-two personal letters to candidates, this collection helps analysts in training and those recently entering the profession to reflect upon what it means to be a psychoanalytic candidate and enter the profession. Letters tackle the anxieties, ambiguities, complications, and pleasures faced in these tasks. From these reflections, the book serves as a guide through this highly personal, complex, and meaningful experience and helps readers consider the many different meanings of being a candidate in a psychoanalytic institute.Fred Busch, Ph.D. is a Training and Supervising Analyst at the Boston Psychoanalytic Society and Institute. Dr. Busch has published over 70 articles in the psychoanalytic literature, and four books, primarily on the method and theory of treatment. He has been on numerous editorial boards. His work has been translated into 10 languages, and he has been invited to present over 160 papers and clinical workshops nationally and internationally. Dear Candidate was published by Routledge in 2020. A pre-publication review from Charles Baekeland, I.P.S.O. President-elect:"It is possible that you will be surprised and educated by what you find in this book. Determination, kinship, wisdom (and some heartbreak) walk hand in hand through its pages with a rousing breadth, unlikely to be available at a single institute. The writers of the letters have been generous with their experience. Agreements emerge: the profound value of personal analysis, free from artificial institutional requirements, and the necessity of steeping oneself in the literature. Another voice is also audible. Readers of Dante will hear: "Retain all hope, ye who enter here––much hardship awaits you, as do human splendors'."

Sensory science isn’t just tasting, it’s so much more. After all, you have five senses. What about the feel of toilet paper? Or the smell of kitty litter, or the sound of paper crackling. Not only that, but the metrics you use and how you train your panelists all matter when it comes to getting valuable data for your product. Though Sensory Spectrum is a service, I ask Ivy Koelliker, on some tools and tips that either you, the budding food entrepreneur or the food technologist on the bench can use to optimize your prototypes. From cat urine to plant-based meat, this episode has it all. How do these relate? You’ll find out. Special thanks to Kristin Bernardi for not only being a fan of My Food Job Rocks but also reaching out to interview one of many extremely talented colleagues. Why did I choose Ivy? Mainly because her blurb had to do with plant-based meat. Yes, the big secret, I interview people to help me do my job better! About Sensory Spectrum Founded in 1986 by Gail Vance Civille, Sensory Spectrum provides Consumer Research, Descriptive Analysis, Training & Education and on/off site Sensory Services Management. Our research and consulting span a wide range of consumer products and ingredients to include foods, non-foods, packaging, and devices. We have onsite objective panels, consumer quantitative & qualitative research, discrimination testing and data analysis, with experienced sensory scientists trained in project management and creativity to provide guidance and data interpretation to our clients for everything from fuzzy front end research to claims support. About Ivy Koelliker Ivy Koelliker joined Sensory Spectrum in 2010. As a Director at Sensory Spectrum, Ivy manages a team of consultants whose expertise spans a wide variety of consumer product categories and sensory research techniques.  Ivy specializes in food descriptive analysis and training food descriptive panels, and has expertise in statistical techniques, including linking consumer and descriptive data.  Ivy has an M.S. degree in Food Science from Rutgers University and completed her B.S. in Biological Sciences there, as well. She also has a Grand Diploma in the Culinary Arts from the French Culinary Institute. Show Notes How do you describe what you do?: I taste food and I tell people about it Sensory Spectrum Malodor – analyzing and mitigating bad smells Trained Panelists – we hire trained panelists Spectrum Method Training How to taste better?: Remove personal bias, be descriptive, and practice, practice practice. When you practice, taste various different products and be aware of the notes What is the flavor that your company wants? What is the flavor your company wants to convey? Buy top competitor products and see what’s similar and different among them All food companies have plant-based meat divisions What have you noticed about plant-based meat: The top tier companies nail appearance, getting close on texture. Flavor: some are getting close but no one is hitting it exactly. Meat flavors tend to be in the meat broth or mushroom flavor notes. It’s great, but misses the mark National Restaurant Association JUST Egg Did you find out about food science before college?: No. I found out about it during my Masters Rutgers University Culinary School taught me the ways of working and being efficient at work After Culinary School, I decided to get my degree in Food Science and then worked in the sensory lab Dr. Beverly Tepper Food trends and technologies: Sustainability Research Chef Association Griffith Foods Sustainability is a trend Non-traditional Savory options Boba Popsicle Sensory Evaluation Techniques with Gail Civille (owner of Sensory Spectrum) ASTM – Documentation for sensory test protocols Delgado Coffee How do you get into Sensory Science?: Though a degree will give you an edge, some of our people don’t have sensory sciences but you can still get internships or be an analyst. Statistics is very important in Sensory Science Because food is personal, we have to really eliminate the bias of our controls Sensory Spectrum – you can send a quick message

Education animals, animal ambassadors, domestic animals and lab animals are often the ones who get the short end of the stick so to speak, meaning traditionally, participation was often up to the handler and not the animal. Progressive training flips the script. Animals have the choice to participate and when they do, desired consequences happen. As expected, the results are amazing behaviors. However, we are making other discoveries as well. We are seeing the impact it can have on our messaging, on research data, and most importantly on animal welfare. You will get a lot out this podcast that covers a wide variety of species from guinea pigs, rabbits, llamas, snakes, tortoises, chickens, horses, cows, pigs and more. Vianney from the UK asked, “What are your thoughts on (training/education) membership sites? To summarize Eran’s answer: I do NOT recommend it, it is a bad idea. Think about all the major training/education membership sites out there: Audible, Blinkist, MentorBox, Linked-In Learning, these are massive and require large capital investment as well as enormous amount of content to justify an individual remaining subscribed. The churn rate vs. the cost to acquire a customer simply won’t make sense. You are better off using your content creation to charge a higher one-time fee (numbers explained in the Podcast) as you are more certain to make this a profitable venture (i.e. selling info products, and/or coaching, and/or done-for-you services). What you can and should focus on subscription or membership type income (residual) would be things that are really difficult to actually pause and the customer is well and truly locked in to that subscription to a large extent. For example: I am a marketer. I will forever need an email autoresponder. I will forever need domain/hosting. I will forever need a platform to host my online courses and digital/info-products. These are subscriptions I will be paying for a long, long time. Many businesses and entrepreneurs are in a similar boat. Leverage these affiliate program to create passive income (that’s what I do).
