Vanderbilt vs. Missouri Predictions: SEC Football Week 9

The 14

Southeastern 16 previews the Missouri-at-Vanderbilt contest, which will be the ESPN Game Day selection for Saturday. Vanderbilt is a 2 1/2-point favorite on FanDuel on Monday in a game televised at 2:30 Central on Saturday on ESPN. Topics include: Both teams are College Football Playoff contenders, making this a huge game for each team. Vanderbilt's Diego Pavia has been a two-way wizard and led the Commodores to a win over No. 10 LSU last week. Missouri's Bo Pribula has had struggles with accuracy and turnovers lately, negating some of the play-making ability that Kevin Coleman Jr., Marquis Johnson and Brett Norfleet offer downfield. The Tigers will need to get All-American candidate Ahmad Hardy Jr. going in the run game. Vanderbilt used tight ends Cole Spence and Eli Stowers effectively against LSU and has some speed at receiver, too. Vanderbilt's offensive line mashed LSU in the second half of last week's win. But running back Sedrick Alexander also exited the game before returning due to injury last week. Missouri's defense has played at an elite level thanks to a great front seven led by Zion Young. Vanderbilt's defense isn't filled with big-name players, but the Commodores have generated 22 sacks and were in the face of LSU's Garrett Nussmeier all last week. The Commodores have an edge at special teams, thanks in no small part to kicker Brock Taylor, while a kicking injury to Blake Craig in the opener has haunted the Tigers all season. Jim Gale is an entrepreneur, outdoor enthusiast, permaculture advocate, and the visionary founder of Food Forest Abundance. A four-time All-American and National Champion wrestler, Jim has always approached life with focus and passion. At just 29 years old, he set a bold goal, to retire within three years, and went on to build a billion-dollar mortgage company within four, achieving that dream through drive and determination. After his success in business, Jim turned his focus inward, seeking a deeper sense of purpose. He spent a year living on a boat before moving to Costa Rica to build eco-villages, where he discovered permaculture, a revelation that transformed his life. This was the moment he found his true calling: to help create a world where every household can grow its own food and live sustainably. From that vision, Food Forest Abundance was born. Food Forest Abundance is a global movement dedicated to empowering individuals and communities to grow their own food, achieve food sovereignty, and live in harmony with nature. The company designs and implements regenerative food systems, using permaculture principles to turn ordinary lawns and landscapes into thriving, self-sustaining food forests. Each design helps restore soil health, increase biodiversity, and provide nutrient-dense food with minimal maintenance. Jim's mission is simple yet profound: to transform food deserts into food forests and build a future where health, freedom, and abundance are accessible to all. Through his work and motivational talks, he continues to inspire people around the world to embrace self-reliance, regenerative living, and the Grow Freedom mindset. We discuss:  How food forests can address global challenges and create long-term sustainability. Why real, homegrown food is essential for health, well-being, and freedom. The mindset shifts needed to live in abundance and work in harmony with nature. Practical steps for building a homestead and growing food without relying on government systems. The power of community, education, and simplicity in building resilient local food systems. Top Stories for October 18th Publish Date: October 18th From the BG AD Group Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Saturday, October 18th and Happy Birthday to Chuck Berry I’m Peyton Spurlock and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett KIA Mall of Georgia. Sugar Rush takes over Sugar Hill this weekend Glow 5K set for Nov. 9 at Lanier Islands Resort Duluth wins national award for downtown selfie stations All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: KIA MOG STORY 1: Sugar Rush takes over Sugar Hill this weekend Sugar Hill’s biggest bash is back this weekend, and it’s got a little something for everyone—art, music, family chaos (the good kind), and that small-town community vibe you can’t fake. Saturday? Start with the 5K Color Run at 8 a.m. (registration’s at 7, if you’re ambitious). Then, from 10 to 6, downtown transforms into an art-lover’s dream: 100+ vendors, a pumpkin patch, live art demos, and even a biergarten for the grown-ups. Sunday keeps the fun rolling at noon with gold mining, aerial silks, animal shows, and—yes—a mascot dance-off. Because why not? STORY 2: Glow 5K set for Nov. 9 at Lanier Islands Resort Lanier Islands’ Magical Night of Lights is kicking off the holiday season with a festive twist—the Dashing Through the Glow 5K on Sunday, Nov. 9. Picture this: running (or walking, no judgment) through a wonderland of Christmas lights at dusk. Toy soldiers, candy canes, even pickleball-playing elves—it’s all there. The race starts at 5:45 p.m. and is capped at 1,500 participants, so don’t wait. Registration includes a cozy crewneck (or hoodie, if you upgrade), a finisher medal, and Santa bobblehead trophies for top runners. Proceeds? They go to the Georgia Mountain Food Bank. Holiday vibes for a good cause. STORY 3: Duluth wins national award for downtown selfie stations Duluth just snagged some national bragging rights, winning a Silver Circle Award for Graphic Design at the 2025 Savvy Awards. The ceremony? Held Sept. 4 at Planet Hollywood in Vegas—because where else would you celebrate creativity? The city’s Downtown Selfie Stations project stole the spotlight. These colorful, interactive signs scattered around downtown Duluth aren’t just for decoration—they’re an invitation. Snap a pic, share it online, and show off the city’s charm. Judges called it “fun, intuitive, and memorable.” Mayor Greg Whitlock summed it up: “This award reflects our commitment to connecting with the community in fresh, creative ways.” We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We’ll be right back Break 2: Ingles Markets STORY 4: A legacy of healing — Documentary tells ReCAST Lawrenceville’s journey through residents’ stories Four years ago, Lawrenceville landed a $5 million federal grant to launch ReCAST, a program aimed at building resilience and supporting mental health in the community. Since then? It’s been a lifeline for so many. To celebrate its impact, ReCAST just released a 17-minute documentary featuring three residents—Josiah Hardy, Success Bonds, and Nadia Hill—whose lives were changed by the program. Jobs, housing, counseling—it’s all there. Program manager Marcus Thorne says the work isn’t done. With the grant set to expire next year, the focus is on sustainability. STORY 5: Delta CEO: Employees who 'glorified' murder 'lost the right to serve our customers' Delta CEO Ed Bastian took the stage at the Gas South District in Duluth on Wednesday to talk leadership, but the conversation veered into controversy—specifically, the firing of a Delta flight attendant who celebrated Charlie Kirk’s murder on social media. The employee’s Facebook post, which read “good riddance,” sparked outrage. Two weeks later, they were fired. Bastian didn’t mince words: “When someone glorifies violence like that, they’ve lost the privilege of being a Delta employee. We serve everyone, no matter their views.” He also revealed Delta’s next big move: direct flights to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, through a new partnership with Riyadh Air. “It’s coming soon,” he teased. STORY 6: Lawrenceville to host Atlanta Christkindl Market The Atlanta Christkindl Market is packing up its twinkling lights and bratwurst and heading to Lawrenceville this December. After years in Buckhead, it’s found a new home at the Lawrenceville Lawn—bigger, better, and ready for more holiday magic. Think mulled wine, handmade ornaments, and that cozy, old-world German charm, all with a dash of Atlanta’s energy. Since 2016, this market has been a holiday favorite, drawing crowds from all over Georgia (and beyond). Opening Nov. 28 and running through Christmas Eve, it’s free to attend. So grab your scarf, your appetite, and maybe a little extra room in your heart for holiday cheer. STORY 7: Greater Atlanta Christian Grad Malcolm Brogdon Retires After 9 NBA Seasons Malcolm Brogdon, a Greater Atlanta Christian alum, shocked the basketball world Wednesday, announcing his retirement from the NBA after nine seasons. The timing? Just a month after signing a one-year, $3.3 million deal with the Knicks. “Today, I officially begin my transition out of basketball,” Brogdon shared with ESPN. “This game has demanded so much—mind, body, spirit—but it’s given me even more. I’m grateful to step away on my own terms, surrounded by family and friends.” The Knicks wished him well on social media: “Congrats on your retirement, Malcolm! Best of luck in your next chapter.” Brogdon’s career was nothing short of remarkable. A second-round pick in 2016, he defied expectations, earning Rookie of the Year with Milwaukee and Sixth Man of the Year with Boston. Injuries slowed him in recent years, but his impact never wavered. Before the NBA, he was a star at Virginia—ACC Player of the Year, two-time Defensive Player of the Year, and a first-team All-American. And let’s not forget his high school days: back-to-back state titles at GAC, Mr. Georgia Basketball, and two-time Daily Post Player of the Year. A legacy? Absolutely. Episode 313 of “The Sports Experience Podcast” is here & we're back on the gridiron discussing Marshawn Lynch. One of the greatest football players ever produced from the Bay Area, Marshawn Lynch was a star at Oakland Technical High School before becoming an All-American running back with the California Golden Bears.Blessed with a ridiculous combination of size, speed, contact balance and toughness, it appeared Lynch was destined for greatness when he was selected by the Buffalo Bills 12th overall in the 2007 NFL Draft.Though he made a Pro Bowl with the Bills, he truly found greatness in Seattle when he was traded during the 2010 NFL season. He helped the Seahawks pull an upset win during the 2010 NFC Divisional Playoff with his “Beast Quake” touchdown run, and then was the key cog in the Seahawks' offensive attack during their dominant run in the early 2010s which saw them capture a title in Super Bowl XLVIII.Though he did not get the ball to score the game winning touchdown in the following year's Super Bowl, (WTF?!), Lynch put up Hall of Fame caliber numbers with Seattle and was named to the NFL's “All-Decade Team” of the 2010s.A fun loving and charismatic guy, “Beast Mode” will forever be a fan favorite and one of the greatest running backs of his time.Watch, Subscribe & Comment on All Platforms:Apple Podcasts: https://podcasts.apple.com/nz/podcast/the-sports-experience-podcast-with-chris-quinn/id1529622054Spotify: https://open.spotify.com/show/1esgBLz04MZYrTgYMk5DvaConnect with us on Instagram!Chris Quinn: https://www.instagram.com/cquinncomedy/Dominic DiTolla: https://www.instagram.com/ditolladominic/Ty Engle:https://www.instagram.com/ty_englestudio/S.E.P.: https://www.instagram.com/thesportsexperiencepodcast/If you enjoy our podcast, please help support us:https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/the-sports-experience-pod/support#sportspodcast#comedypodcast#marshawnlynch#nfl#seattleseahawks

Featured Musician: Syd Burnham THE VIDEO: [After THE JUMP: Things discussable.]  --------------------- 1. USC Preview: Offense starts at the top Maiva is getting 12 YPA vs blitzes, so maybe don't Wink so much in this game. They're using a lot more 12 personnel and splitbacks this year as well so it's not just your standard Lincoln Riley spread. It's still Lincoln Riley though, and it's been murder on a mostly bad offense. A big reason is the All-American slot/flanker Makai Lemon. There aren't as many outside guys as last year but they kept their two favorites; Ja'Kobi Lane is back and huge, but freshman Tanook Hines is getting most of the snaps at the other side. You do have to be wary of tight end Lake McRee and JUCO RB Waymond Jordan. OL might be better than they were against Illinois, when they had some significant injuries; we expect LT Elijah Paige to be back but not center Killian O'Connor, so they'll have to play 7th year senior J'Onre Reed. 2. USC Preview: Defense starts at 19:15 Not the offense. D'Anton Lynn is on the Ravens tree but he's not having the same success, mostly because they can't seem to get the defensive line up to size. Devan Thompkins is 290, Jide Abasiri is 295. Edges were highly ranked (Anthony Lucas was a pre-Elston Michigan target) but sophomore Kameryn Crawford isn't panning out like a top-100 is supposed to. They added Portal #25 Keeshawn Silver from Kentucky and a 5-star freshman, but they haven't changed that math, and are getting pushed around. We do still like Kamari Ramsey, who came with Lynn from UCLA and has been playing nickel this year. Cornerbacks are tall. 3. Wisconsin After Review starts at 36:56 Underwood is coming along, the RBs are elite, and Andrew Marsh is happening. Still have McCulley the #1 with a bullet, and it's nice to see they're giving him leapy chances now. Not sure where PFF (and Sam apparently) are getting the bad pass protection grades for the tackles, because we thought they were fine. The young OL have mistakes but they fix them, and they all have the talent. Fire blitzes were the order of the day. Weird seeing this defense spill but that's what they do sometimes I guess. Rod Moore's return was a bigger deal than you think. Seth's not as mad at Wink as you think.  4. Around the Big Ten starts at 52:45 There are some pretty big games this weekend (and that's more interesting than hockey vs Mercyhurst) so we previewed each of them. Indiana at Oregon: "…is a top-ten matchup" means Okay grandpa let's get you back to a home. Oregon by 7. If IU's OL is legit they can win and if they can beat Oregon there's no ceiling on this team. I can't believe in Indiana! Ohio State at Illinois: They'll lean. UCLA at Michigan State: What's funnier: MSU losing at home to UCLA or UCLA immediately losing by like 60 after beating Penn State? MSU fans are already saying Jonathan Smith doesn't have That Dawg in him. He seems like a normal human being, not an angry little dwarf. Nebraska at Maryland: Interesting game with what happened with Maryland last week. They are throwing many screens. Rutgers at Washington: Expect a high-scoring game. Would like this game on the opposite coast but Rutgers's offense is hit or miss and three time zones suggests miss. Northwestern at Penn State: PSU fans are already salty after the Eagles and Gavin McKenna/PSU hockey just lost to Clarkston. If you have one punt there could be a riot; OTOH Penn State fans respect Northwestern's big win over a tough UCLA team. Iowa at Wisconsin: euugh. Special teams malfeasance by Wisconsin will ruin them. Purdue at Minnesota: Vaguely watchable? Featured Artist: Marcus: Syd Burnham Okay reader who keeps asking: this is when I'll do Syd Burnham (now Osten; she got married this summer, but kept the performing name). Syd is an indie rock musician and graphic designer from Detroit who mixes a bunch of genres (jazz, singer-songwriter, etc.) to come up with a unique sound. She made an impact with her debut EP "The Yellow Album," at the age of 16, followed by her album "Timeline" at 19. She has since released hit singles like "Summertime," "4 A Grl," "Milky," and "By Then" but her live performances are what carved out a dedicated audience in the Detroit music scene. Syd goes up there with just a guitar and her voice but has a magnetic stage presence who incorporates her modern art into the music, and incorporates local themes into the artwork. Links: IG, YT, FB, Spotify. Songs: "A GRL" "Best Friend" "By Then"        Also because Across 110th Street will get our Youtubes taken down, the opener and outro: “The Employee is Not Afraid”—Bear vs. Shark “Ruska Vodka”—Motorboat

Week 7 is here and it is a big week for the Big Ten's undefeated teams. The premiere matchup on Saturday will be #7 Indiana visiting #3 Oregon. Both teams are coming off of a bye following close games the week prior. Andy Staples, Ross Dellenger and Steven Godfrey discuss this matchup and debate who they think holds the advantage. It will be a matchup of two top coaches in college football alongside two of the top quarterbacks in the game. The teams appear to be pretty evenly matched, but who will come out on top? Then the discussion shifts to the top team in the nation as #1 Ohio State takes a visit to #17 Illinois this weekend. Ohio State's defense is on pace to be historically dominant behind All-American safety Caleb Downs. Ross talks about his interview with Downs and his takeaways from that chat. The guys then discuss what Ohio State's road to the playoff looks like. Also, they discuss #15 Michigan paying a visit to USC. It appears the fans of both teams are starting to grow a little restless with their head coaches and Andy thinks that the fans of the losing team may start to jump ship. Later, we briefly step away from talking games because there is some important college football news to discuss as well. To start, Ross' shares his Congressional Minute providing updates on the SCORE and SAFE Acts. This is followed by the guys discussing the latest issue with the College Sports Commission and the new, single transfer portal window officially being announced. Then, they break down the latest drama in North Carolina. There was a lot of false information on Wednesday about Bill Belichick potentially stepping down, but who started the rumors and how did this all go so wrong for North Carolina? Finally, the guys make their picks for this week's I've Got A Feeling. Oklahoma, Clemson and San Diego State are who they are riding with this week. Get ready for Week 7 with the College Football Enquirer.(1:27) - #3 Oregon hosts #7 Indiana(13:18) - Caleb Downs and #1 Ohio State's dominant defense(22:29) - #15 Michigan visits USC(29:22) - Ross' Congressional Minute(31:05) - Impact of Private Equity in college athletics(36:46) - New official transfer portal window(40:34) - Latest issue with the College Sports Commission(47:04) - The latest drama in North Carolina(56:10) - I've Got A Feeling Subscribe to the College Football Enquirer on your favorite podcast app:

The 1975 Notre Dame football season was one for the books… and later for the big screen. Ara Parseghian had retired as the head coach, replaced by Dan Devine. And on the cover of SI was Quarterback Rick Slager, guiding the Irish to an 8-3 season. But Slager was more than just a QB… he played just as much tennis in South Bend as he did football and would go on to get his law degree from ND… but when he was throwing the pigskin, there was a sophomore tight end often on the receiving end of it. Ken MacAfee is one of the greatest college tight ends of all-time. A 2-time All-American for Notre Dame, he would break out in '75 and follow it up with two sensational seasons as a junior and senior.  In 1977, Joe Montana was now the quarterback and MacAfee was his top target. He caught 54 passes, and finished 3rd in the Heisman Voting while taking home the Walter Camp Award for the nations top player. All this led the Irish to a New Years Day win over Heisman winner Earl Campbell and the Texas Longhorns in the Cotton Bowl, 38-10… MacAfee would close his college career with a National Championship…the 10th in the programs storied history. Drafted by the 49ers, MacAfee played two seasons in the NFL in San Francisco but in his 3rd season, new head coach Bill Walsh asked the 6'4, 250 lb tight end to switch to guard. That didn't sound like a good idea to Ken, and despite being reunited with Montana by the Bay, after a few pre-season games playing nothing but O-Line, MacAfee abruptly retired from the NFL. Ya see, MacAfee didn't just play football at Notre Dame… he got an education and after graduating with a degree in pre-professional studies he went to Penn and earned his DMD—-Doctor of Medicine in Dentistry… He would later become an oral surgeon and an expert in the field. That's what it means to be a student athlete. MacAfee joins us to tell us about the difference between Parsegian and Devine… who was behind helping get a walk-on by the name of Rudy Ruettiger into that now famous game… what was real and what wasn't from the iconic movie, “Rudy” and if he ever thinks about what if he had stayed and played with Montana in San Francisco. Too much freedom can be a bad thing, but not when it's us giving you several versions of The Rolling Stones' "I'm Free" from 1965. The original is a carefree song that strolls along, with a moment where the tune gets tripped up. All-American boys The Lovin' Kind. This one's organ-soaked and the chorus really explodes! Next up is an amazing soul interpretation by Wilmer & The Dukes. Just listen to it, it'll knock your socks off! We feel obliged to do The Soup Dragons hit version from 1990 but ain't no way it's getting the BDA ... We cleanse the palate with The Ar-Kaics, a retro version from 2014. No whammy in that one!

Coach Sean Brosnan turned around a struggling Newbury Park high school cross country team that hadn't qualified for a State Championship in 25 years. Soon, they had won three consecutive National Championships. How did he do it? Sean shares the psychological and physical strategies he used to instill belief, develop fitness, and build the bond between teammates. His all-in, often unorthodox approach, raised eyebrows but undeniably got incredible results. Himself a distinguished endurance runner, Sean was a collegiate All-American in both cross country and track and holds a personal best of 3:44.33 in the 1500m. He's now coaching for the UCLA track team.  His new book is now available: Beyond Fast: How a Renegade Coach and His Unlikely High School Team Revolutionized Distance Running. If you have a young runner in your life - or you're a cross country athlete yourself - buy this book. Like Running with the Buffaloes did for me in college, Sean's work is powerful and may help another generation of young runners fall in love with the sport. Thank You Lever! I'm excited to partner with Lever - a bodyweight support system that helps you run further or faster with less effort and injury risk.   You've probably seen pro runners using Lever - it attaches to any treadmill and you hook into it like a harness. It effectively makes you lighter, enabling you to run more volume than you normally could with reduced injury risk, run faster with less effort, or return to running after an injury more effectively. Lever allows you to do more running with less risk. From building mileage, introducing faster workouts, aiding your return to running after a break, Lever has a place in every phase of training. The pro's have been using Lever for years, giving them the advantage of more training with fewer injuries. They're also common in physical therapy offices. Because you can run with less body weight, you can gain fitness and practice good technique without risking your recovery. Just like beetroot but more effective, blackcurrant berries are vasodilators, helping you get more blood flow where it's needed, quickly and efficiently.  My personal favorite option includes 100mg of caffeine, so you get the proven performance (and psychological) benefits of caffeine combined with the vasodilation effects of blackcurrant berries.
