In this podcast, Eckhart talks about overcoming obstacles to conscious creativity. He explains we may have a vision of what we'd like to create, but when we try to express ourselves the ego kicks up resistance. Eckhart says we feel attacked by inner voices such as, “Who do you think you are? You're not ready for this” and then we self-sabotage. He explains how we doubt our talent and give in to our fears. Eckhart says when this happens, we must recognize it as the voice of the ego and in those moments we should practice presence. He shares that we need to release our negative thinking, allowing the creative process to flow through.
Musitations™: Exploring Music, Meditation, Creativity and Wisdom
Thrilled to have my good friend, colleague and fellow Multi-Grammy® nominee Will Clipman on Musitations™ for the kick off of season 2! I have admired Will and his profound work in world music and percussion for more than 3 decades! It is such an honor and treat to have him on the show. Little did I know we had so much in common; both being published poets, devoted world music multi-instrumentalists and most importantly survivors of a near death experience - which is how we connected while collaborating on a project for the IANDS (International Association of Near Death Experiences) conference last year. We immediately connected and began discussing doing an episode on Musitations™ together which is now live! We discuss the meaning of mythopoetic, conscious creativity and the importance of having "serious fun" when creating - as well as the importance of listening, stillness and silence. Here is a bit more about Will: Will Clipman is a poet, percussionist, performing and recording artist, maskmaker, storyteller and educator. He has been nominated for seven GRAMMY® Awards, including one for his solo world music album Pathfinder, and his pan-global instrumental palette is featured in his Planet of Percussion® workshop and performance. Will has recorded over seventy albums, including thirty-five for Canyon Records, the world's foremost producer of Native American music. Will's poetry is widely published, including his book Dog Light (Wesleyan University Press). His masks and mythopoetic storytelling are showcased in his workshop and performance Myths & Masks®, which is available as a DVD. Will has conducted over three hundred artist-in-residence programs for elementary, middle and high schools, colleges and universities, senior centers, adult and juvenile prisons, hospitals, libraries, resorts and retreat centers. His work as an educator has been recognized with an Arizona Commission on the Arts Decade of Distinguished Service Award and three Governor's Arts Awards nominations. Will has toured throughout the United States, including Alaska and Hawaii, as well as in Germany, Canada, Morocco and Russia. He holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree from Syracuse University and a Master of Fine Arts Degree from the University of Arizona. Before this episode, I thought memes were just funny pictures to make you laugh. What I didn't know is that they can have many purposes—including teaching others and increasing their spiritual connection. Meme artist James McCrae certainly uses memes to make people smile, but also uses them to help people explore their inner selves and potentially expand in consciousness. You've probably seen his memes on Instagram—they spread like wildfire daily! James isn't just a meme maker though—he's a fantastic poet and the author of How to Laugh in Ironic Amusement During Your Existential Crisis (the world's first meme book—and I love it). Top 5 Things You'll Learn from This Episode: How he got into the world making spiritual and consciousness memes for a living (hint: it may have involved a ceremonial use of cannabis and a Terence McKenna document) James shares some of his personal creative processes and tips for you What is a meme? (and a little bit about the history of memes) Some of my favorite quotes, poems, and funny parts of James' book Why gentleness is one of humanity's greatest superpowers and much, much more. James also discusses his sacred experiences with ayahuasca and how cannabis — and if they've been conducive to his creativity. Make sure to join us in our closing practice: James shares two never-been-heard-before poems that rocked my world (honestly two of the best poems I have ever heard). Is creativity all fun for you or is it causing you to stress out? Do you feel as if you are buying too much stuff to the point where it is no longer helpful? Do you feel as if you are “doing it wrong” from the amount of time you spend or don't spend actually creating? Would you like to join a private Facebook Group where we discuss all issues related to creativity that are causing you to be at an uncomfortable place with it. We will discuss it all from a non judgemental lens. The are no prescriptions for how to do it right for any individual person in this group, only discussions on how to unpack what got us here, what keeps us in a less than desirable place, and how to move toward our own joy and ease with all of this. When was the last time you created just for the sake of creation, without all the pressure that comes with needing it to be a “good idea,” visually pleasing, or profitable? For many, we lose touch with our inner creator when we reach that certain point in our youth where the world suddenly asks more of us than to simply experience the joys and wonders it has to offer; when we are told to leave our imagined worlds behind and come back to reality; when we aren't recognized by institutions or society at large as “artistically inclined,” and so we are told to spend our time and efforts on something more lucrative. And even for those who have the natural talent, the pressure to make something of oneself through their art is often enough to disconnect them from it. But creation isn't reserved for the artistically talented, nor is it restricted to sensory mediums. We create every day with our thoughts, choices, and actions that make up our life experience, and when we are blocked or stifled creatively, we become blocked in our lives. Reconnecting with and nurturing your inner creative is vital to allow for greater self-expression and self-awareness, and as a result, a sense of empowerment, purpose and autonomy in creating an aligned and authentic reality for yourself. Evy Duskey dreams of conscious creativity. Evy grew up in Ohio, USA with a love of music and a passion for performing. While she felt open and free as a child, the corporate culture of the U.S. moved her toward a practical path and convinced her, for a time, that art was a trivial pursuit. In college she studied abroad in Argentina and her experience had a profound effect on her. She moved from Ohio to Buenos Aires, now nearly 10 years ago, to pursue her love of music in a variety of contexts. While living in the U.S. stability had been a priority for her. Since relocating and being swept up into the chaos of the City of Fair Winds, she realized that life rarely goes as planned no matter how hard you try to make it so. Evy now creates from a space flow and feels like a conduit, channeling something greater. She never forces herself to make music or art, but instead lives vibrantly and goes with the creative energy when it comes, whether it happens in the middle of a bike ride or a brisk walk. Ultimately, she makes decisions based on her intuition, even when the road ahead isn't clear.Today Evy is a musician, copywriter, and magazine founder. Whether writing and performing as frontwoman of the dream pop band Fervors, to starting local arts and culture magazine La La Lista, she has long-nurtured a voracious appetite for “soul-feeding” creative projects that — in her opinion — make life worth living. She is passionate about supporting local businesses and culture, valuing art and artists, and establishing healthy work-life relationships that respect our limited time on this earth. When we are children, it seems like creativity is all around us. We imagine, we play, we pretend and create the strangest worlds. But as we grow older, we lose a big part of this curiosity and playfulness. It's better to fit in, assimilate. Kai Wilder is a painter/creator from Byron Bay, making ephemeral art that oozes layers of divine expression. How did he hold on to that magic that we all feel when we are children? As we get to pick his brain on creating magic, we find out that luckily, there are many ways in which we can learn to come back to that creativity.
Today we are so excited to have the photographer and activist Alexi Lubomirski on the REV podcast to talk about his enthusiasm for compassion and integrity within the creative industry. Alexi may now be most well known for taking those beautiful engagement and wedding photographs for Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, and he is now using some of this attention to activate his campaign for protection of animals, conscious creativity, environmental responsibility and sustainable fashion. He has just started a campaign called Creatives 4 Change that encourages people to commit to not using feathers, fur or exotic skins in fashion in order for these things to become less desirable and less on trend. He is also a keen traveller, a vegan, ambassador to Concern Worldwide, husband and father, author and poet. His personal ethos and passion for bettering the world is infectious, and we hope you feel as inspired as we did after getting to hear the conversation he and Cora had earlier this week.

Allow Play - Just for Fun The thing is, the longer you stay on the planet the greater degree is the possibility that you will experience stuff that grows you in ways you cannot anticipate. And, most importantly, be glad you stuck around long enough to have that experience.I just finished facilitating the “Loving Yourself Into Creation” retreat with my dear friend Margaret Lindsey. Margaret specializes in Conscious Creativity. Her specialization and mine meld beautifully in creating a space for participants to be present to themselves in ways they cannot anticipate. Opportunities to play, play, play with paint, words, talk, and listening to oneself allowed each person to come to choose to participate in their life when they didn’t even know they had a choice.A retreat such as Loving Yourself into Creation is kind of a mini-course in Life 101.As children, we play and we learn through playing. It requires imagination, creation, problem solving, disappointment, frustration, sadness, and we either learn to hang in there for the juicy good stuff, or we develop an attitude of 'not good enough' and failure. If we are lucky enough we have people in our lives who listen to us when we talk about our thoughts, our feelings, our wants and our needs. They help us to make sense of our experiences and our interpretations about those experiences. They help us see that maybe what we’ve been playing at, or who we’ve been playing with, just isn’t right for us. They encourage us to find our real true desires - what’s really fun for us, and go for it, no matter what.Play is hard work and is so important to all of us regardless of whether we are young or old. In fact, the participants in this retreat were all in their 70’s. Each in their own way discovered that how they’ve been playing in their lives hadn’t yet allowed them to live the juiciness of life. They became conscious of how they were limiting the possibility for greater fulfillment and delight. How awesome is that! For me, I became aware of the interpretations I have about what happens when we age. I recognized the belief I held - unbeknownst to me, that ‘people get depressed as they age. That as life changes and they aren’t who they thought they were decades ago, that their lives become full of sorrow and hopelessness. Slowly they decline into decrepitude.’ I’m learning so much about aging as I immerse myself in the presence of aging people. I get to see how wrong I am about so many things, and I’m so very glad about that!In play, as in life, we are always making adjustments to the story, in the how’s and the when’s of the unfolding imaginations that are occurring. Many of my imaginations about aging are still stuck in that old paradigm: “Life sucks and then you die.” As I continually play with people who are playing the game of being old, I get to see that we get to make it all up - even now. I get to see that we can have all the fun we are willing to have up to and through our transitions to what’s next! It’s hard work for us grownups, as hard as it was when we were children.A retreat is just a playground for grownups. Even as a facilitator I get to play, imagine, & grow, joyously following where my heart desires to go. This is the way I believe all life should be for all of us guru-children: playful learning led by our hearts and witnessed and embraced by loving beings. The point of this podcast is not to sell you on a retreat, but to perhaps discover ways to create a "retreat" for you, where you can play hard at what you love to do, and be present to all the various you’s who show up with you on your retreat. Allow play! - - - - For more blogs, books and videos, or if you are interesting in coaching or training with Dr. Rosie, check out her website: www.theparadigmshifts.com
