They're like, ‘I feel like I have to work all the time. Because if I'm not, then either my business is going to fail, or it's not going to look like I work enough.' WARNING: This episode contains explicit language and frank discussion of traumatic scenes and events some listeners may find inappropriate. Listener discretion is advised. This week, we talk with licensed Psycotherapist Lauren Rich from LaurenRich.net. Her slogan says everything you need to know about if Lauren gets what first responders and veterans feel like after a traumatic event: Get Unf*cked. It can be difficult to first acknowledge you may need help, and even harder to find someone who you know "gets" what it is that we do on a daily basis. In this episode, we discuss: How to make sure the therapist you choose "gets you" Questions to ask and questions they'll (hopefully) ask you Examples of therapy options and what works for folks like us How Lauren came to choose her slogan and why honesty matters
In this episode, Wade chats with two sisters, Lauren Sambataro and Renee Belz, who grew up in a health-driven family. Their dad was “the original biohacker” and a pioneer in holistic dentistry. Dr. Sambataro was one of the first dentists in the country to pivot his dental practice away from mercury fillings. His influence made a strong impression on Lauren and Renee. Although they like to point out that their upbringing was not too extreme - as kids, they still enjoyed mac-n-cheese and peanut butter sandwiches! But Dr. Sambataro taught his daughters how to be independent minded and question everything - a principle sorely needed in this day and age. Renee has quite a story: after years of dealing with many health issues - including a long battle with the Epstein-Barr virus - she became fed up with allopathic care and decided to go the functional medicine route to find the root causes of her chronic fatigue and brain fog. So she began doing her research. She has made a miraculous recovery, regaining her health, and is now on a mission to help others do the same. Renee became a certified nutritional consultant and a holistic life coach with a master's degree in Nutrition along her health education journey. Lauren is her athletic sister who works as a dancer on Broadway - her last show before the Covid lockdowns were Wicked. In the meantime, Lauren trains clients one-to-one in New York, offering virtual health coaching for anyone anywhere in the world. Her certifications include the CHEK Institute Exercise Coach, Holistic Lifestyle Coach, Functional Diagnostic Nutrition, Pre-Post/Natal Training, and Institute for Functional Health Coaching. The Biohacker Babes want you to discover how your unique body functions at its optimal level through their journeys to wellness. Come join their world of biohacking in this episode with our host Wade T. Lightheart serving as the tour guide. In this podcast, we cover: What it was like for these sisters to grow up in such an unconventional family Renee's incredible healing journey. (With Epstein-Barr syndrome on the rise, you don't want to miss this) The common issues Renee and Lauren are seeing with their clients What does the mindset of a successful biohacker look like? Using technology with intuition in their biohacking practice How to keep biohacking fun and interesting The interesting differences between the two sisters who grew up in the same household Some tech tools the babes like to use for biohacking How “the jab” is affecting Lauren's Broadway career How Lauren and Renee are moving forward in this “new normal” How their dad's questioning mindset made them tenacious biohackers At one point, Wade asks Lauren and Renee to unpack their “questioning mindset.” How did it develop? They know their dad played a big part. But how did this passion for finding answers to their health issues (and not blindly accept conventional medicine) rub off on them? Lauren said, “I don't know. I think it probably leaked into the subconscious. When Renee had her burnout, I had my version of burnout - what they used to call adrenal fatigue. My cortisol was super low. Renee had mononucleosis which turned into Epstein-Barr and chronic fatigue.” “When you get answers from your doctor like “you're fine. You're normal.” That's not okay. That's unacceptable. You want to find out more. There are amazing resources available to us now.” Renee unpacked her journey by saying, “My journey led to burnout. I ended up with chronic fatigue syndrome in my early twenties. My doctors were saying that my labs were normal. Just keep sleeping. You need to sleep more. I was sleeping 13 to 14 hours a night. I ended up with Epstein-Barr, virus, mercury toxicity, HPA axis...I just had to keep searching and putting my puzzle pieces together to figure out what I needed to do. So I started studying nutrition. I graduated with a degree in international business and got my “dream job” and hated it.” “My dad then asked me, ‘what is your Friday night essence?'” And that started the journey to becoming biohacker babes. A peek into Renee's online coaching practice. When Renee first began coaching people how to address their health issues using online tools like Zoom or Skype, she described how at first, she would put on nice clothes and try to look “professional” during an online coaching call. She also presented herself in a “dry and scientific” way. What is interesting is how Renee noticed her clients would mirror her. Their energy would match her energy. If she were serious, the client would be serious. Over time, she realized her clothing and hair worries were unproductive and unnecessary. She began letting herself be silly and brought humor into her coaching sessions. She would be sure to laugh during their talks, and sure enough, the clients then loosen up and laugh as well. Her decision to conduct coaching in a “joyous, positive, lighter way” instead of being so serious made a massive difference in her coaching business - for both her and her clients. You can feel the healing energy coming through your audio speakers while listening to this dynamic duo. The Biohacker Babes love helping people overcome the health challenges that conventional medicine casts away - “it's all in your head,” they say. But Lauren and Renee are persistent forces of nature who do not settle for that. Tune in and hear what biohacking did for these two beautiful souls. Today...we’re talking about how to take better care of the planet. To be totally transparent, I don’t know as much as I would like about climate change or the details around the impact of my daily choices. However, what I do know is that our small actions can make a difference, and we’re reaching a point where we all need to be taking action and playing our role. Whether you choose to bring a reusable bag to the store, eliminate your use of single-use plastic like ziplock bags, replace your plastic tupperware with glass, reduce the amount of times you order takeout or buy plastic water bottles, eat less meat, shop second hand, your actions do add up and they do make a difference. Some of the things that I do include, making an effort to recycle all of the items that can be recycled, shop in the bulk section of the grocery store, forgo plastic bags for my fruits and veggies at the grocery store, say no to the bag when I can, have a meatless day each week, and try to buy from brands who are making an effort to be sustainable. I turn my lights off and don’t leave my heat or AC on. I am far from perfect, but I am trying to learn so I can make mindful actions when it comes to my choices. And today’s guest taught me SO much to help inform these choices. Lauren Gregor is Founder and CEO of Rent a Romper, a rental clothing company for children because they grow so fast. Prior to founding Rent-a-Romper, Lauren served as a strategy and operations leader at FirstGroup plc and Los Angeles Unified School District. She brings her experience in business and as a mom to her goal of making life easier for parents and the planet. Lauren lives in Los Angeles with her husband and two sons, Bennett and Avery. I was so inspired by Lauren because I love people who are passionate about something and then do something about it. People who take action! And yes, you heard that right, Not only does this week’s guest care about the planet and is doing something about it, she works full-time as director of Strategy at a Charter School Network oh, and she has a husband and two sons. During our conversation we discuss: How Lauren became interested in Sustainability and got the idea for her company, Rent a Romper How small changes, one at a time in her home helped her become more sustainable She shares some pretty shocking stats about the impact of fast fashion, landfills, and the work environments where these clothes are produced The B word...yes...balance and Lauren’s strategies for achieving it And Lauren shares her view on how many hours a week we actually need to work and how to follow your passion dipping one toe at a time Lauren inspired me to make better, small, daily choices AND to continue to take action on my passions, which can with a busy life fall by the wayside. Steve and Lauren are the founders of Home On Your Terms and are based in eastern Connecticut. Steve serves as the company’s Acquisitions Director and loves crafting up creative solutions for sellers, while Lauren works as Sales Director and enjoys helping deserving buyers achieve their goal of home ownership. When not working on their own business, they are mentoring other investors who wish to learn the terms of the niche of real estate. In their free time, they are with their two young children and two dogs. Steve can also be considered a Cornhole connoisseur, so you may find him outside perfecting his form. Lauren is a huge fan of “The Office,” so she may or may not quote some of her favorite lines while on a call with you. What you’ll learn about in this episode: How Lauren and Steve work to help business owners buy or sell homes through their “terms deals”, and how they’ve brought their background experiences into their work Why owning a business and buying a house presents unique challenges that make it harder to qualify for a traditional mortgage, and how terms deals can be the ideal solution How terms deals, which have been around since the 1800s, are often an overlooked niche within real estate, and how these deals provide alternate solutions to big problems Why a terms deal can help a business owner quickly sell a home and get out from under the obligations to that property, freeing funds that can be put back into the business Why a terms deal is the ideal way to sell for someone with little-to-no equity in their home, or for someone who wants or needs greater monthly cash flow Why these deals can be a great way to avoid high real estate agent fees and guarantee that you can put the full equity of your home in your pocket Why Lauren and Steve specialize in creative solutions to meet the needs of both buyers and sellers, and why flexibility is a key feature of terms deals Steve and Lauren walk through the process from start to finish and offer example deals to illustrate how terms deals can result in more money for the seller How a part of the buyer process involves a pre-qualification check and a thorough credit repair process if necessary to get them mortgage-ready Why Lauren and Steve feel passionately about helping connect buyers and sellers who have unique challenges and finding mutually beneficial solutions Resources: Website: http://homeonyourterms.com/ Facebook: www.facebook.com/homeonyourterms Instagram: www.instagram.com/homeonyourterms/ Twitter: @HomeOnYourTerms Additional Resources: Free Executive Leadership Summary report from Predictive ROI: https://predictiveroi.com/research Sell With Authority by Drew McLellan and Stephen Woessner: https://amzn.to/39y7x13 Predictive ROI Free Resource Library: https://predictiveroi.com/resources/ Stephen Woessner’s LinkedIn: www.linkedin.com/in/stephenwoessner/

In this episode, Lauren shares the invisible corset is a set of culturally-inherited beliefs that make women as restricted and uncomfortable in their bodies as traditional corsets did. We discuss Lauren’s definition of the invisible corset and specific examples of the invisible corset in our lives. Today I'm exploring a very specific subject matter - Personal 360s. It's an idea that I'm been thinking about applying in my own journey of personal growth and I discuss it with Lauren Ivison - business coach and founder of ‘Totem Leadership'. Lauren and I spend some time on her path to coaching and the elements that help her form a foundation for the leaders she works with; as well as how her own path to using the ‘Personal 360' framework and how it's contributed to her life and work. Lauren and I come at some of these personal growth and development ideas from fairly different points of view and I loved our conversation. Whereas I have a tendency to look for opportunities to "self-traumatize" and look for hard things in order to get better, Lauren advocates a bit of a softer approach that has a lot of wisdom to it. It certainly gave me a lot of ideas as I develop my own Personal 360 and think about how to continue down the path of growth and development. If you have ever done one, or plan on doing one, be sure to share and let me know!To hear more, tune in to Episode 13 of What Didn't Kill You!Some Questions I Ask:Did you approach the idea of ‘Totem Leadership' from a more professional standpoint or were you able to make those empathetic coaching connections as well? In today’s episode, we’re virtually sitting down with Molly Thompson and Lauren Paul, the co-founders of the Kind Campaign! The Kind Campaign is an internationally recognized nonprofit organization and school program that is bringing awareness to the negative and lasting effects of girl-against-girl bullying. If there is one thing we’ve learned in this last year, it’s that we really have to take much more responsibility for the way that our behavior and actions can impact others. Living an ignited life does not just refer to you; it refers to our community. None of us can truly expand until all of us do and none of us are free until all of us are. In this episode, we really open up about a lot of things — our own experiences with bullying, the effects of bullying, specifically for young girls, the correlation between bullying and addiction, what it looks like to own our insecurities so that they stop spreading on to others, the power of an apology, how to ask for forgiveness, and how to give forgiveness, how we’re teaching our own kids about bullying, and what we can all do in supporting the fight against bullying in schools. This is a really important episode, especially in 2020 as we’re all becoming increasingly aware of the power of our language and in the actions that we take toward one another. We’re all in this together. I’m so excited to have Lauren McManus on the show this week to share her side of the story of how she and her business partner Alex Nerney built their multi-million dollar blogging empire, which they talk about on their website Create and Go. If you haven’t listened to my interview with Alex back in Episode 227, after you listen to this one with Lauren go check Alex’s episode out because it’s one of the most downloaded episodes of this show (and I’m sure this one will be just as downloaded!) Lauren basically travels the world because she and Alex can run the business from anywhere, so I think she was in the Czech Republic when we talked right before COVID really kicked up - so our connection was a little spotty at times, but I’m sure you won’t care because she’s got such good information for you today! Between what Lauren’s gonna share with you today and what Alex shared nearly 80 episodes ago, you’ll never consider quitting on yourself again! And be sure to listen til the end to find out how you can get your hands on their Blogging Bootcamp for Beginners. Lauren and I talk about: Why Lauren and her partner Alex quit their corporate jobs and started a blog. The different ways Lauren and Alex tried to monetize, and what finally led to their big income payout and continued success. How trying to be perfect is holding you back. How Lauren overcomes her fear of putting herself out there. What led up to Lauren’s first hire on her team. Advice if you are struggling to get traction in your side hustle. The belief Lauren had to change about herself to get where she is today. My favorite quotes from Lauren: “I think the biggest hurdle is honestly just getting started, whether it's starting your first business, whether it's creating your first product, whether you're creating your first YouTube video or podcast” “It's important to keep moving and just to keep trying stuff out, if something doesn't work, then scrap it and try again.” “Keep taking action. If you keep moving forward, at some point, you're going to get there and you're going to get there quicker.” Bio: Lauren is a former CPA turned blogger, and she and her business partner, Alex Nerney, started their first blog in the health and wellness space. After earning six figures with that blog in their first year, they started Create and Go, where they teach others how to start and monetize their own blogs. She now runs this blog full-time while traveling the world as a digital nomad. Today’s show is about an important topic that isn’t talked about very often. We’ve all heard of morning sickness, but there is a much more severe condition called hyperemesis gravidarum. It brings all-day nausea and vomiting and can result in significant physical and emotional effects. Lauren Harris is a married mother of three kids who lives in western Massachusetts. She’s a licensed mental health counselor who owns the Center for Perinatal Wellness. Lauren is also the Western Massachusetts Regional Coordinator for Postpartum Support International. In today’s show, Lauren shares her story of hyperemesis gravidarum (HG) through three separate pregnancies. We’ll hear how she learned of her condition and dealt with for a very long time with little support. Lauren also shares about her struggles with postpartum anxiety, along with how her experiences propelled her into the field of perinatal mental health. Show Highlights: Lauren’s story of her surprise pregnancy at age 22 with her daughter, Natalie, now 13 At eight weeks, Lauren was hit with incredible nausea that kept her vomiting up to 12 times each day; she was unable to keep food/liquids down, but was told it was “normal.” There were four separate times that Lauren was hospitalized for IV fluids due to dehydration; she lost 40 pounds during the first 20 weeks of her pregnancy. She was frustrated that no one took her seriously, and she couldn’t work or function each day, which put a financial strain on their family. Late in her pregnancy, she was prescribed Zofran, which was the only thing that would help. Her parents helped pay the out-of-pocket cost at $90 per pill; Lauren had to take three pills daily for several weeks. What it felt like to be told that her extreme sickness was “normal” Why Lauren had the conversation with her mother about terminating her pregnancy How HG affected Lauren’s work as a mental health counselor How Lauren met the emotional challenges to keep going day by day After a 23-hour induction, her perfectly healthy baby girl was born, weighing 8 lbs. 11 oz. Why the birth was followed by a D & C because of a hemorrhage Four years later, Lauren was pregnant with her second child; she had similar nausea and vomiting but felt much more supported by her medical team With her third pregnancy, she took more care with rest and hydration but experienced much more postpartum anxiety The irony was that as the HG improved with each pregnancy, the anxiety issues became worse How Lauren coped by using therapy and medication Why Lauren was propelled into perinatal mental health work by her personal experiences Lauren’s practice has three clinicians now but is looking to expand soon because the need is so great What Lauren learned about HG and herself Resources: Email Lauren: lauren@laureneharris.com Lauren’s practice: www.cpw.care Find the Center for Perinatal Wellness on Facebook

If you’ve been waiting for the right moment to make the switch, let today’s guest be the inspiration that you CAN make it happen. Lauren Brown joins Darla and Natalie to share how she built a business and launched a design career at 65. Lauren had a long career in luxury sales and design (making, on average, close to a million dollars a year). After settling into retirement—or what she likes to call her ‘sabbatical’—she felt restless. She knew she had more to give—but she had given away ALL of her client-base to colleagues. So she used a combination of research, workshops, and listening to podcasts to launch a new design business. Listen to this episode of Wingnut Social to hear her story. She realized she was getting older and had to redefine what life was all about. She knew she’d been given a gift for design and understanding color. She couples that with passion and enthusiasm, and a love for life and people. She drew inspiration from Darla’s story and how she reinvented herself after a long career in law enforcement. Darla sharing her story gave Lauren the courage she needed to take the leap and start over. So Lauren Googled “How to start your own business” and began building a binder full of different resources. She learned about social media, hashtags, and everything design-business related. She started listening to WingnutSocial, following Shayla Copas, and attending workshops at Market. She drove full-speed ahead, determined to make her dream a reality. Her mantra to herself has become, “Lauren, you can do this too. You have God-given gifts and talents and you need to keep using those until you can’t breathe any more on this earth”. Lauren’s marketing is a combination of ‘old’ and ‘new’ Digital marketing is a whole new world for Lauren, which is one reason why she listened to the Wingnut Social podcast relentlessly. She now has her business on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram and has invested in a website. One month after launching her design career, she’s being featured on this episode of Wingnut Social. This gal knows how to make waves. She’s building a steady following and has learned how to make an impact across platforms. She’s also embraced print media, and sent out press releases to various magazines and papers in her area, eventually getting her story published. Before recording this episode she was featured on the radio. She also advertises her design business on an area billboard—and has gotten some traction because of it. It goes to show a mesh of old and new marketing tactics can be effective. Trying something different can get you recognition, so learn to be creative. Listen to the whole episode to hear how Lauren is navigating the journey and overcoming the mindset struggles you can face. The ladies also chat about getting systems and processes in place, and the impact podcasts have made on her journey.
