In this episode of the Teach Different podcast, Jarvis and Siye are back with Steve Fouts to discuss a profound quote by Dostoevsky: “When there is love, you can live even without happiness.” They explore the complexities of love, its relationship with happiness, and how both emotions manifest in our lives. The conversation navigates through personal anecdotes, philosophical insights, and the importance of understanding the distinction between love and happiness. An exciting accessory to the Curse of the DamnedUltimate Edition boxset is the Axe-Wielding Eugene action figure. To highlight this cool merch item, Night Demon enlisted the services of longtime friend and former Midnight guitarist Shaun Vanek to create a 30-second commercial. In this episode, you will hear all about how that commercial came to be through an entertaining conversation between Shaun and Jarvis. Among other things, they talk about the exchange of ideas culminating in the video concept, the technology employed to create the commercial, the fact that no actual Eugene figure was present during the shoot, the challenges of telling a story in 30 seconds, and various touches that enhanced the campy, comedic vibes the creators were aiming for. Jarvis Cocker has had a dream run. As founding member and lead singer of Pulp, he hit the highest of the highs during Brit Pop in the 90s, before embarking on a solo career that was just as celebrated. A few years ago he published a different kind of memoir called Good Pop, Bad Pop, which visually catalogued his stuff and told his story through its memories. And within that was revealed the Pulp Masterplan, a manifesto by young Jarvis of what a band would look, sound, and be like. Much of it came true. You're about to spend time with one of the most charismatic frontmen I've met. But offstage, Jarvis Cocker is somewhat shy, reserved, and more than a little self-deprecating. It took me by surprise when we sat down in an old theatre in London's Shepherd's Bush. The Jarvis I'd grown up with, was different to the one facing me in Bush Hall. Send us a textWhen life tilts—whether toward loss or success—where does your hope actually rest? We open our October theme on hope by drawing a clear line between fragile wishes and the rugged assurance Scripture describes. With Jarvis Brennan joining us, we explore why biblical hope is not a “maybe,” but a confident expectation rooted in God's character and promises—and how that changes the way we suffer, celebrate, and make everyday choices. We unpack Hebrews 11's vision of faith as the substance of what we hope for and the evidence of what we can't yet see. From Romans 8's future glory to James 1's refining trials, we show how an eternal perspective can hold steady under a diagnosis, a strained marriage, financial pressure, or the ache of grief. Hope doesn't erase tears; it gives them direction. It refuses denial and instead reframes pain inside a bigger, truer story where God's presence, purpose, and promise have the final say.We also talk about the quieter danger—good times. Drawing from Philippians 4, we look at how abundance can shift our trust into work, wealth, or relationships, and how subtle idols overpromise and underdeliver. Jarvis shares practical steps to re-anchor your heart: assess your reality honestly, name who God is in it, restate what He's promised, and respond with faithful next steps. Along the way, we revisit Abraham's story, contrast works-based religion with the finished work of Christ, and remember that hope has an object—and His name is Jesus. If this conversation helps you steady your gaze, share it with a friend, subscribe for more, and leave a review so others can find it. The housing debate deepens as opposing voices tackle the thorniest questions in Vancouver's affordability crisis. In part two, UBC lecturer Erick Villagomez and Wesgroup CEO Beau Jarvis continue the dialogue with Adam & Matt, diving into Canada's $2 trillion capital shortage, foreign investment overcorrections, and whether investors are destroying or saving the city. The clash intensifies over speculation policies and Beau's explosive claim that strip malls next to SkyTrain stations are now worth more than their development potential. Where did we go wrong? Both examine alternative housing models and question where public money actually goes while confronting aging rental stock facing impossible economics. Can Vancouver's housing system function when the numbers don't work for anyone? Are real estate investors providing a service or destroying our city? And what happens when filtering theory meets displacement reality? Don't miss the conclusion of this revealing two-part conversation.

Sparks fly when two opposing voices in Vancouver's housing crisis clash over the housing fundamentals this week: how did we get here? Who's to blame? And what needs to happen to bring Vancouver out of its affordability emergency? UBC's Erick Villagomez and Wesgroup's Beau Jarvis sit down with Adam & Matt to debate everything from the deep mistrust in the housing conversation to the need for foreign investment to the role of government involvement in building housing moving forward. Can't we all just get along? And, in fact. unexpected moments do emerge where both sides find points of agreement and shared frustration. Can these opposing perspectives find any common ground when examining Canada's $2 trillion capital shortage? What happens when academic theory meets real-world development economics? And why might collaboration be more possible than Vancouver's polarized housing debate suggests? Don't miss this revealing confrontation that exposes where the real battle lines are drawn.
This week we conclude our 10-year anniversary retrospective on Night Demon's Curse of the Damned track by track, by exploring the album closer, 'Save Me Now." Although this track was covered in depth in Episodes 202-203, we revisit it now and expose new nooks and crannies, details that have never before surfaced. Among other nuggets, you will learn how "Save Me Now" got Dusty the gig as Night Demon drummer, why Jarvis is so proud of it from a writing perspective, how the keyboard / organ sections came to be and when they were reproduced live, how it has the longest pick slide in the history of recorded music, why the track eventually faded from the live set, and why it's a tricky song to nail live, In many ways, "Save Me Now" is a "hit song" that wasn't, and the band are very fond of it.Become a subscriber today at nightdemon.net/subscriber.
