In this episode we're talking with Tammy Williams. Tammy is a 38 year old first time mom who chose to have her baby at home. She is an amazing momma who approached her home birth without fear, and had a magic experience. If Tammy could, she would shout from every rooftop about how awesome her home birth experience was and how every woman can give birth without fear. Since finding every rooftop would take some time, having her on our “podcast rooftop” will suffice for now. Unsure of whether or not she'd be able to get pregnant, Tammy had a surprise first pregnancy at 38. In a circumstance where many women might find themselves fearful and worried about the risks, Tammy powered up and she and her partner David decided on home birth after a close friend who was also pregnant at the same time shared her intentions of having a home birth. Overwhelmed with emotion in an amazing way, Tammy sought out empowering information and resources with the support of her midwives that she selected from a nearby birthing center. Tammy is a powerful example of knowing her body and trusting the inner voice. To her, home birth is such an important opportunity to strengthen all aspect of your life from your relationship to your partner to how you raise your children. And through the course of her journey, she has actually inspired, influenced and encouraged other women and families in their home birth experiences as a resource and friend. “I truly believe that by sharing these stories we can educate women about the importance of birthing without fear and helping to change the stigma around home birth,” says Tammy. Not many of us can say we have created our own wellness, app, but that is exactly what my guest in this episode has done. Tammy Williams, CEO of Envision2bWell had the vision to create the platform EnvisionWell. The best part...it is free of charge. EnvrisionWell is about 16 apps in one to help users keep track of their fitness, their nutrition, their health, and more. Hear her story of how she is helping all of us to get people on their "journey to 360 Well-Being® and Social Health Empowerment." It syncs with several hundred apps, with the functions separate apps that are unable to communicate with one another. It brings people's data to life in one centralized location, eliminating the need for multiple apps. EnvisionWell empowers and enables sustainably healthy behaviors in all areas of wellness. “This is not your average health or fitness app,” says Williams. “EnvisionWell provides information that communicates the true health of your body, mind, and spirit, based on more than just your height, weight, and BMI. It is data that allows you to decide for yourself how to best meet your personal health and wellness goals — whether it is reducing stress, improving or maintaining your physical fitness, practicing mindfulness, eating healthier, or other aspirations.”

Thank you for bringing your beautiful ears right here for episode 13 of CALM Conversations about Learning where we lean in to re-envision our children's education with and for the folks who matter most: teachers, parents and of course, our young folks! This CALM Kid Convo is with 19-year old Tammy Williams, who is a college student and the budding business owner of Shay Melanin, a skincare product line for Black girls. Check her out at on the Instagram @Shay.melanin.Tammy also happens to be the daughter of a mentally ill parent who spent much of her childhood displaced and because I share a similar history, this convo really touched my heart. I was also impressed by her academic accomplishments and determination to thrive, to do more than struggle and strive as she embarks upon adulthood. No doubt, her childhood experiences have helped to shape her aspirations. Children who live with trauma have had to build their own survival toolkits, for sure. But they shouldn't have to. They should get the opportunity to be children. And this doesn't occur nearly enough for Black children. So, as I interviewed Tammy, I thought about the need to create a collective Visionary bandwidth for our children who are navigating life with untreated mentally ill (and addicted) parents. We shouldn't be expected to help all the babies on our own. That leads to burnout. But to connect our individual bandwidths? This is doable and responsible. So, here are some Nuggets for us Village Visionaries to chew on: The trauma and confusion of being uprooted time and time again when a parent has a mental illness that goes untreated. The irrational expectation for a child to be “strong” as opposed to adults surrounding that child in love and light as she builds healthy resilience. The trauma that institutions like law enforcement compound black children's lives with when they murder us in the street and our children are left to process it with little or questionable guidance. The importance of our black and brown children being exposed to the world so that they know that their interests do not belong to white folks; that there is no such thing as white folks' activities. Our children belong wherever they want to be. Tammy's vision for educators: Pay attention and don't ignore signs of neglect. It all comes back to Compassion- for ourselves and our babies; it's the cure. Let's start thinking about how we can create a collective Visionary bandwidth so that the children of mentally ill parents don't have to get to that "breaking point"-- and we don't burn out. NOTE: Unfortunately, the audio is wonky-family life is happening in the background- but I hope that you'll find that Tammy's story is worth it.DM me on the INSTAGRAM @zenani116 if you have any Visionary ideas that you'd like me to share on the podcast. I would love to hear from you!CTA: Do the Podcast-Listener Thing: Follow. Subscribe. Rate. Review.

On 17th June 2021 Tammy Williams on Saint FM conducted in her own words an inspiring and humbling interview from two Saint men, working behind the scenes and really making a huge contribution to our community - Geoffrey Benjamin BEM & Patrick Henry BEM In the Queen's Birthday 2021 Honours Awards Overseas and International Honours list on 12 June 2021 Geoff & Pat received the following: · British Empire Medal (BEM) to Geoffrey Eric Benjamin, Senior Biomedical Scientist for Services to the COVID-19 response on St Helena. · British Empire Medal (BEM) to Patrick George Henry, Chairman and Coach of the Jamestown Rifle Club for services to sports on St Helena. Geoffrey Benjamin Geoffrey Benjamin is being recognised for the significant role he played within the Health Services Directorate for the implementation of COVID-19 testing on the Island in May/June last year. Geoffrey was the laboratory specialist lead person and through his knowledge and innovation modified the existing laboratory at short notice and with limited resources to allow for testing in line with Public Health England (PHE) standards. He was also the dedicated lead on the procurement of specialist laboratory equipment and with there being no other specialists on-Island at the time, Geoffrey worked remotely with manufacturers in the UK volunteering many of his evenings and weekends to ensure that equipment underwent strict validation to certify the safety and accuracy of testing. In demonstrating further diligence, Geoffrey made himself available at all hours of the day when requests for testing of new arrivals from maritime vessels, charter flights and quarantine facilities were made and he worked tirelessly to ensure that all testing was carried out on time. Geoffrey has played a major role in St Helena's COVID-19 response plan. His expertise, professionalism and devotion to implementing effectively this new and important testing regime, meant that the Island went from no capability to full capability in just six weeks and gives the assurance of further protection to the community of St Helena. Patrick Henry Patrick Henry is being recognised for his commitment and dedication to motivate and train individuals to their highest ability in the sport of shooting on St Helena. He is also recognised as the driving force for the upgrade and renovation of the Jamestown Rifle Club to a safe training environment with modern equipment and has invested a lot of his personal time into the upkeep of the Club. Patrick is not only a shooting coach, but also the only archery coach on St Helena. He actively encourages the youth to take part in this renowned sport and has volunteered a huge amount of his time in training individuals for international shooting games such as the Commonwealth Games and NatWest Island Games that took place in 2014, 2015 and 2017. As a testament to his dedication and skill, under his management of the 2015 Island Games, the shooting team attained two medals in Jersey, and under his management in Gotland, 2017 participants attained seven medals including two gold medals. Patrick continues to dedicate much of his time in training of individuals in this sport and promoting it amongst the youth, and is always looking for ways to improve the Jamestown Rifle Club and bring it up to international standards as far as resources will allow, making it a place to be enjoyed by all.
