Following on from Part 1, Justin, Olivia and guest host Chris Jones (of the "Hall of Songs" podcast) explore Elvis's Hot 100 hits that never made it to the Top 40, closing out the movie era with tracks from Speedway and Live A Little, Love A Little and moving into the 1970s, a decade that surprisingly offered Elvis far more pop success than may often be perceived, as only 5 of his single A-sides charted outside the Top 40 (and only the Christmas and gospel singles not charting whatsoever in the Hot 100). Also touched upon are the three posthumous Hot 100 hits that never reached the Top 40: The Elvis Medley, and the remixes of A Little Less Conversation and Rubberneckin'. For Song of the Week, Chris is inspired by having recently watched "The Big Lebowski" to pick Elvis's 1966 home recording of the Sons of the Pioneers cowboy classic that opens that film, "Tumblin' Tumbleweeds," while Olivia goes deep on the extensive history behind Elvis's version of the apocalyptic spiritual "I, John," rooted almost entirely in Black gospel tradition until Elvis's 1971 recording released on the "He Touched Me" album in '72. Steve and Captain Evil are ‘All Shook Up' as they take a trip to Graceland, diving deep into the world of ‘The King'. But will they end up in Heartbreak Hotel after seeing Elvis' home, or will it be ‘A Big Hunk o' Love' for Memphis? Then, the ultimate question: If you caught Mark McGwire's historic home run ball, would you keep it and cash in for ‘Three Million Dollars, Baby' or do the right thing and hand it back—risking a lifetime of ‘Suspicious Minds' judging you? Or would you be ‘Caught in a Trap' of moral dilemma? And finally, grab your ‘Blue Suede Shoes' and get ready for a tearjerker—Steve shares a ‘Can't Help Falling in Love' moment from one of his shows that proves sometimes, life gives you ‘A Little Less Conversation' and a lot more heart. Don't be ‘Lonesome Tonight'—tune in now! See what we did there?

Our guest today is Lisë Davis, she is the wife of the late legendary singer-songwriter Mac Davis. As the founder of Mac Davis Enterprises, she plays a crucial role in preserving and promoting her late husband's legacy for new generations. Her commitment to the art of songwriting is evident in her leadership of "Song Painter: The Mac Davis Fund for the Art of Songwriting," an initiative dedicated to the growth and development of emerging songwriters. As a songwriter, Mac Davis rivals the likes of Lennon and McCarthy, Simon and Garfunkel, and rightly so. Mac became famous as a songwriter and wrote the hit songs "In the Ghetto", "Memories", and “A Little Less Conversation” which were all recorded by Elvis Presley. The list of notables who recorded his songs are Nancy Sinatra, B. J. Thomas, Perry Como and Linda Anderson to name a few. In 2010, Mac Davis co-wrote the song “Time Flies” with Rivers Cuomo, which appeared on Weezer's Hurley album. In 2013 he was part of the Los Angeles writing and producing team that created the hit "Young Girls" for Bruno Mars. Mac Davis also wrote and collaborated with the late Swedish D.J. and music producer Avicii, penning the song “Addicted to You” for Avicii's debut studio album True. They performed the song “Black and Blue” together at the Ultra Music Festival in Miami in 2013. By now, you have to know Mac Davis' songwriting and singing is legendary. And we haven't even touched on his acting career. #countrymusic #popmusic #singersongwriter #singer #songwriter #songwriting #elvispresley #elvis #avicii #brunomars #dollyparton #halloffame #musiclegend #songpainter

Titled, "A Little Less Conversation: Closing Scotland's Implementation Gap", the report argues that the successes of devolution has been stymied in recent years by a combination of “too much politics, too much government, a failure to cooperate, and a centralised political culture”. It praises several successes under the Scottish Government but concludes that Ministers too often “govern by press release”.The panel consists of report author, Jamie Gollings, OSF Chair, Prof Jim Gallagher and former civil servants Philip Rycroft and Lucy Hunter Blackburn.

Marni welcomes Adele Spraggon in the Life Check Yourself studio, where they get into the nitty gritty of how to train your brain and break down patterns that have been influencing your relationships. Adele is an award-winning author, an international trainer and the recipient of the 2022 Women of Inspiration accolade. In this episode, Marni and Adele discuss the reasons why we react to our partners the way we do, how to recognize certain patterns in ourselves, and how to break the cycle of emotional distress that sometimes manifests in relationships. It's a journey of self-empowerment wrapped in a 4-step process that starts by looking inwards, without judgment. Winner of the 2021 Top Behavioral expert title, Adele's book, “Shift: 4 Steps to Personal Empowerment” has won several awards. It's all about repatterning. How to change your reaction to your partner How to make your relationship brand-new Why do we fall into the same relationships over and over again? Breaking the Serial-Dating Pattern Why do you keep having the same fights? You're Interacting with a Pattern, Not a Partner [05:38] Adele explains that when meeting or interacting with a person, we're actually interpreting them through our own set of past experiences. We're not reacting to them, but to a pattern we've formed for them. Let's think about the brain. It's inside a dark silent room called a skull. It has no access to the outside world, so I can't really know you. We're interacting to our own brain, rather than to the person standing in front of us. Adele goes on to emphasize that the brain is in a continuous process of rewiring itself. And to break certain cycle, repatterning – which is unearthing, understanding, and changing the internal patterns that are obstructing the relationship – is key. Reminding ourselves that we're actually interacting with our own pattern, is an introspective process that allows us to find out why we've reacted to our partner's behavior in a certain way. This eventually leads to the understanding that our reaction has more to do with us, than with them. A pattern is an intertwined physical sensation, emotion and thought. It is the patterns within us that we need to identify, deconstruct and reconstructed, in order to understand the why. And that's part of the 4-step process that the award-winning author uses when working with couples. Your Mind is just Along for the Ride [ 12:14] Triggers stem from the physical and emotional state, rather than from the mind. What a person's mind essentially does, is take whatever sensory data it's given, and weave a story out of it. If we could slow everything down, you would see the mind just following along. The mind is there to justify the emotions. But in order to recognize these patterns and start deconstructing them, we need to slow down, and ask ourselves the right questions. The first step in Adele's process for training the brain, is being unapologetically honest with ourselves about our feelings. In a world that's constantly putting pressure on us to alter ourselves, the expert explains that this process is not about changing or fixing a particular emotion but rather about embracing and understanding it. A Little Less Conversation, a Little More Introspection [18:57] We're not saying communication isn't important, but rather how you're communicating. Constantly trying to fix your partner or tell them what to do - something we're all guilty of at one point or other - doesn't work. Whereas, understanding the pattern that makes you react to them in a certain way, does. Your reaction to your partner's behavior is a reflection of one of your patterns. Explaining those feelings to your partner, once you've explored them yourself, is the road to healing. It's when someone needs to justify or defend how they're feeling, or fix how they're feeling, it causes the other brain, your partner's brain, to also want to defend, justify and fix. The four traps Adele says need to be avoided, and the same ones that keep those triggering behaviors cemented in the relationship, are justifying, analyzing, catastrophizing and rebelling. Our brains have been, throughout our lives, conditioned to analyze, and justify. So, don't justify. Unless you've taken a moment to stand still, and accept how you feel, and what pattern that belongs to, the relationship becomes a vicious cycle that is constantly repeating itself, with no end in sight. What's happening to your partner's brain is every time you go down one of those traps, you're pushing them into one of their traps.
Welcome to another episode of Outrage + Optimism! Co-hosts Christiana Figueres, Tom Rivett-Carnac, and Paul Dickinson catch up on the whirlwind political news from the last few weeks. They cover the defeat of Brazil's far-right President Jair Bolsonaro by former president (and prisoner) Luiz Inácio Lula da Silva aka “Lula,” the upcoming COP27, and the U.S. midterm elections. First up, Brazil. The news of Lula's presidential win is a victory for the planet. Deforestation skyrocketed under Bolsonaro but declined under Lula's first stint as president. However, it won't be easy to reverse Bolsanaro's trends. Lula doesn't have a Congressional majority, and Bolsonaro's party just picked up a few more legislative seats. What will this mean for Brazil's regeneration initiatives? Next, the team discusses COP27, the upcoming UN climate conference. This year's theme will be implementation rather than high-stakes, multi-governmental negotiation. But that has our trio wondering about what that means for the private sector? With $20 trillion in income, they're essential to hitting net zero targets. What role will they play? On to U.S. and U.K. politics: Republicans一with their climate denial stance一seem poised to win both legislative houses in the upcoming American midterm elections. And across the pond, the U.K. continues to flounder in its ongoing leadership crisis. How does this affect the U.S. and U.K. climate agendas, wealthy western oil companies, or climate finance commitments to developing countries? You won't want to miss the team's insights! Finally, enjoy the amazing British-Asian fusion sound of Nikhil Beats with an exclusive performance of his song 'Wisdom ft. Eclipse'. Recorded well before both Trailer 2 and the world premiere of Baz Luhrmann's Elvis at Cannes, Gurdip and Justin get caught up pre-premiere news and answered a patron's nostalgic email regarding the 20th anniversary of the A Little Less Conversation remix, then get down to business reviewing The Sweet Inspirations' self-titled 1967 album, which gave them their biggest hit single, "Sweet Inspiration." Featuring a range of material from across the soul, R&B and even country genres, all with the signature sound of American Sounds' Memphis Boys just as we're familiar with on Elvis's 1969 material,"The Sweet Inspirations" in an insight into what appealed to Elvis most about them when he brought them on for his live shows in 1969. The guys also very briefly touch on how the group came to be, a handful of the most notable recordings they were featured on both before and after their time with Elvis. For Song of the Week, Justin knocks another 50s song off the dwindling list of remaining recordings from that era, picking "How Do You Think I Feel" from Elvis's second album, while Gurdip makes up for being unable to chime in on the calypso-influenced "Ito Eats" from Blue Hawaii on the last regular episode. Ben Jones continues our 10:30am service series A Little Less Conversation, a Little More Action from the Epistle of James.
This week, Justin and Gurdip are taking a look at the 1970 compilation "Almost in Love," released on the budget Camden label. It's arguably Elvis's strongest release on Camden, with a retrospectively strong tracklist featuring groovy recordings like A Little Less Conversation, Rubberneckin', Clean Up Your Own Back Yard, and Edge of Reality. For Song of the Week, Justin draw attention the leak in this old building covering "We're Gonna Move" from 1956's Love Me Tender and its gospel roots. Gurdip decides to go against the grain and find the "Confidence" to cover the children's song from 1967's Clambake - and finds a totally listenable and fun cover version! But before all that, we pay our respects and remember musician Ron Glaser, who tragically passed away recently, and reflect on "The Pledge" the heartfelt song he cowrote and performed with Chris Fillmore using Elvis & Billy Smith's own words. Ron's work both as a solo artist and with The Ridin' Dudes remain on a number of streaming and digital music platforms to add to your library. Another week of football, another episode of Little Less Conversation. Burnley left Chelsea feeling a little blue after snatching a point at the Bridge. Elsewhere, Arsenal continued their fine form with a win against Watford in Arteta's 100th game in charge. The Manchester Derby added further fuel to the 'Ole Out' fire as Man City produced a dominant performance against Utd. The big shock of the weekend came from the London Stadium, where West Ham came away with a big win against Liverpool (Alisson fans look away!).

Guess who's back? And we're not talking about Lukaku. Little Less Conversation returns with the new Premier League campaign getting under away. We kick things off with the big one, Arsenal vs Chelsea - or as we like to call it Amar vs Ricky. In the end there was only one winner. We assess both teams' starts to the season, which has seen the blues flying high and the gunners languishing near the bottom. We also take a look at the latest PL imports & exports, including the departure of what Amar has described as "Arsenal's worst signing ever!". We round things off by giving our season predictions for the top four and relegation spots.
