Author Matsuri closes out the final chapters and leaves no stone unturned, Chris speaks, Q-Chan shows off their human form and a climatic meeting with D's father finally happens.  In a clever way, Matsuri switches from an episodic structure to a serial form, bringing the narrative home!     Email: WeAppreciateManga@Gmail.com   135: Petshop of Horrors vol. 10 By Akino Matsuri Translation by Tomoharu Iwo and James Lucas Jones Lettering by Nunu Ngien   The story advances to its conclusion when Chris Orcot's extended family arrive. Chris knowing that he is adopted by his aunty and uncle forgives them and his cousins, but in a moment of crisis he learns to speak up and call for them, Chris' voice is heard by his cousins and he is taken home, even if the pets at the shop did not want Chris to leave them, Chris makes his own decision to live in peace with his real family. When Chris looks back at what he had with D in the pet shop he finds they no longer resemble the humanoids he once had a relationship with, they truly seem like animals now.   Afterwards D mysteriously leaves and closes shop upon getting heat from the FBI. Agent Vesca Howell teams up with Chris' older brother, the detective Leon Orcot to track D down. The two share what they know about D before they go their separate ways. Afterwards D appears to Leon and leads him to a high-rise penthouse to discuss things over tea and sweets. But Leon is not fooled since the imposter is Count D, the father of the missing D. Although this raises many questions as to why he looks like he in his twenties and is the spitting image of his son. Leon however falls for Count D's trap. And like in previous chapters, Leon must once again fight in the wilderness of a mythological dreamscape.   Meanwhile Agent Howell confronts the real D and loses the fight to apprehend him. D realises that Howell is only after his lookalike father and so he takes him to Count D. Both agent Howell and D arrive in time to help save Leon. It is at this point that D's personal pet, Q-chan transforms into his human form, revealing himself to be D's grandfather.  Just in time for the existential crisis that is Count D's plan to spread a virus that causes human extinction. However, Count D is shot dead and Howell dies in the confrontation, The OG Count, Grandfather D takes his son's remains so that he can reincarnate him and Leon takes a leap of faith with D to safely escape the tower. Soon afterwards, D parts ways with Leon.   Eventually after twenty years pass, the pet shop is re-opened and mysterious deaths occur. Detective Orcot makes his way there to meet D, but this is not a reunion, in fact this is a meeting between the adult Chris Orcot and D's son, the reincarnated Count D who died twenty years ago.     Topics:     ·       Aino Matsuri's switch from an episodic style of storytelling to a serial one. ·       Chris' dilemma ·       Chris' unrealistic form of mutism. ·       Is Count D human or not? ·       The Misanthropic villain.   ·       The final chapter relies heavily on specific tropes so to create a feel of finality. The Tower itself is symbolic, appearing as a Tarot card after the Devil card. The Tower is almost always depicted having been struck by lightning or facing some sort of explosion or fire at the top. It represents, divination, to reach heaven and God and to experience a great revelation but one with an arduous cost. In many stories it is the protagonist's greatest challenge before they confront the truth that waits for them above, and usually by defeating the villain above it causes the tower to collapse, this is symbolic of a return to status quo, to humble and “ground” the heroes but also render the challenge of ever climbing it again to be mute. Also, like the biblical “Tower of Babel” anyone who attempts to climb or build it always comes to a misunderstanding when they meet someone at the top.   ·       Another symbolic scene is Leon becoming trapped in the forest, like “Jonah and the whale” Leon must face penance/consequence for his lack of faith and suspicion of D, it is a purgatory and womb like state that once he escapes from, he gets more purpose. It is also a traumatic instance of being isolated from society and one's tribe and in such stories those who survive the proverbial whale get a chance to better themselves or do better in the next life.   Historical, scientific, and cultural references:   ·       The Mountains of Kunlun China is specifically a belt of mountains that stetches through the centre and around parts of China, from the Tibetan plateau to the Tarim Basin, bordering on the Gobi Desert. It has mythical properties and is analogous to the Greek's Mount Olympus and the Tower of Babel, in that many creationist stories revolve around the mountains, which are deemed as the birthplace of China as a nation.   Facebook Instagram X/Twitter Official Website   Email

Because capitalist doctrine insists that humans are inherently greedy, self-centered and competitive, its believers cannot imagine any solution to our problems that isn't driven by greed, selfishness and competition. The idea that we can transcend our propagandized conditioning, our cultural mind viruses and our egoic thought patterns enough to move from our competition-based system into a collaboration-based one looks ridiculous to them, because they believe our nature can only ever be at war. At war with each other, and at war with our ecosystem.  To a thoroughly capitalism-indoctrinated mind, the idea that we can transcend our self-destructive, exploitative, ecocidal patterning and move into collaboration with each other and with our ecosystem to create a healthy, harmonious world looks like childish nonsense. So instead they promote the far more mature and realistic idea that our world will be saved by greedy, union-busting tech oligarchs like Elon Musk. Reading by Tim Foley. The Grinch is a fictional character created by Dr. Seuss. He is best known as the main character of the children's book How the Grinch Stole Christmas! (1957). Hairy, pear-shaped, and snub-nosed, the Grinch has spent the past 53 years living in seclusion on a cliff, overlooking the town of Whoville. The Grinch is mean-tempered, with the consensus among the Whos being that he was born with a heart "two sizes too small". He especially hates the Christmas season. While we can all agree with the Grinch's anti-consumerism message, are there other reasons to dislike the holiday season? Listen as Amber, on of Better Than Human's two stellar hosts, lists all the reasons why the holidays maybe aren't the most wonderful time of the year. Is Amber the definition of a Grinch? Is she a wet blanket on the Christmas joy of others? Or is she right? Just ahead of Misanthropic Breed's release, guitarist Niklas Sandin took some time to chat with Buke about their new album and the effects of this current pandemic on the band. They also spend some time on Swedish death metal in general, how the HM2 pedal has become such a signature in the Swedeath sound and their own sound, how much Nik enjoys jazz, the obvious Katatonia tie in, and so much more! Fewer Humans Won't Heal the Planet

Podcast: Breakpoint (LS 44 · TOP 1% what is this?)Episode: Fewer Humans Won't Heal the PlanetPub date: 2020-07-15Notes from Listening Post:ThoriumAccording to news reports, there's at least on bright spot amidst all the COVID-19 bad news: the planet is beginning to heal itself. With those pesky and invasive humans stuck at home, animals are reclaiming wild spaces (and even city streets) and, of course, CO2 emissions are down. The underlying message of these news reports is: What the Earth needs to heal is fewer people. The idea isn't new. Since at least the 1970s, environmental activists have advocated for reducing the human “footprint,” which ultimately means reducing the number of humans. For example, in his latest film “Planet of the Humans,” Michael Moore argues that green energy, such as solar, wind, and other renewables, will get us nowhere. Our only hope to combat climate change, he says, is limiting population growth.  While many environmentalists will disagree about the potential of “green energy,” most agree that we need population control. In fact, the idea is now so firmly planted in Western minds, it is, for many, impervious to facts and reason.  When beliefs become pseudo-religious like this, we tend to ignore some facts and forget others. Those who continue to bewail the human population ignore that, with the exception of sub-Saharan Africa, fertility rates have cratered in almost all of the world, leaving countries with a shortage of workers and an aging population. In fact, the median age of the population in North America has risen from 30 in 1955 to 39 today. In Japan, the median age has risen from 22 to 48 in just 15 years.! And, we are quick to forget that some of the most horrific human rights abuses of the past fifty years were attempts to limit population growth. I'm not only talking about China's infamous and horrific “one-child” policy. The war against fertility has been waged from Peru to India, and many places in between. Still, the blindest blind spot driving the anti-human, anti-natalist worldview behind so much environmental alarm is something that has proven to be true over and over. Namely, the best tools humans possess to combat environmental challenges are human ingenuity and creativity. Put another way, it's remarkably short-sighted to see humans as only problems to be solved. The human capacity to adapt, imagine, and innovate are the best solutions available. Take for example Project Vesta, which is currently testing an ingenious way to remove CO2 from the atmosphere by taking a cheap volcanic mineral called olivine, grinding it up, and spreading it on sandy beaches. According to Project Vesta CEO Tom Green, the goal is to “speed up a natural process that normally takes place very slowly, over geological time.” When ocean waves and rain hit the ground up olivine, it “triggers a chemical reaction that pulls carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere and into the water as a molecule called bicarbonate.” In turn, marine organisms use the bicarbonate to make sea shells and corals.  Or as Green put it, Project Vesta's vision “is to help reverse climate change by turning a trillion tons of carbon dioxide into rock.” The very audacity and imagination of Project Vesta reminds me of how enhanced agricultural production spearheaded by Norman Borlaug and the Green Revolution made catastrophic predictions about overpopulation and food shortage look foolish. Or of India's work developing safe nuclear reactors using thorium as fuel. There are simply so many instances like these that suggest people aren't the problem. They are the solution. Misanthropic worldviews obscure the obvious lessons of these stories, and instead advance the demonic idea that we must “cull the human herd” (a phrase that has made a comeback during the pandemic). There is, of course, no reason we should think that human ingenuity and adaptability has come to an end, in this day and age. Thus, there's no reason to think that fewer people are the answer. Of course, Christians should know this already, since we also know that every person is unique and valuable, created in the image of God. But, even a materialist, who thinks credit for our success as a species is due to natural selection, should be able to see our track record and conclude: humans are not the problem to be eliminated. They are the solution. The podcast and artwork embedded on this page are from Colson Center, which is the property of its owner and not affiliated with or endorsed by Listen Notes, Inc.

"Hey, Jungs. Was gibt es neues?" "Pfff, nicht viel. Hören jetzt erstmal mit dem Podcast auf." "Ach, ihr hattet einen Podcast?" Damit wäre die 1. Staffel gut zusammengefasst. Das soll natürlich nur ein "Auf Wiedersehen" sein, kein endgültiger Abschied. Sobald sich verschiedene Rahmenbedingungen geändert haben, kommen wir wieder zurück. Diesmal aber wirklich lustig. For example, did you know your grandfathers? Pitney and Amelia didn't know theirs. One was a really interesting dude who has some 'splainin to do about minstrel shows! What was much easier was to come up with fictional characters we would want to hang out with. After all, who wouldn't want to hitchhike the galaxy with Ford Prefect? And finally, human nature. Are we good or are we bad? The answer might surprise and depress you. Promos: Chewed Gum Podcast  and the 2 Skeptical Chaps! (Want to swap show promos? Email us!) We love you for listening! Who the heck are Pitney and Amelia? A gay guy and his fat friend talking about everything! We've got over 30 years of stories to share about stuff we love, stuff that annoys us, people we've known, places we've been, and things we've seen. Geeky, silly, and always opinionated. NAMES ARE CHANGED TO PROTECT THE GUILTY! We may be awful, but we're right! New episodes every other Friday. Recorded close enough to Austin, Texas to help with their weirdness factor. Misanthropic author Ann Sterzinger and host David Perrodin attempt to gain philosophical understanding of the epistemological foundation for post-secondary institutions of learning proliferating safe rooms and cry rooms across campuses. Initially the guise of art, such rooms shed temporary labels and are rooting in libraries, lecture halls, and dorms. Not invasive. Welcomed. ANN STERZINGER. Ann owns the BLACK PILL SITCOM genre, previously known as dark comedy, embracing the bleakness with a giddy sense of fun. Her specialties include dystopian sci-fi, French to English translations, and living in Chicago without getting shot once. Her books, The Talkative Corpse: A Love Letter, & NVSQVAM: (Nowhere) are available on Amazon. WHAT IS A SAFE SPACE? A Safe Space is a place or environment in which a person or category of people can feel confident that they will not be exposed to discrimination, criticism, harassment, or any other emotional or physical harm. It's a conceptual construct and a tangible locations with comfortable furniture, dim lighting, aroma warmers and soothing music. Such rooms dotted campuses over the past decade and their ranks atomically mushroomed following Trump winning the Presidency. This instantly ushered in a sense of unease amongst generally democratic or socialist-leaning persons. Students (and employees) typically don't need permission to enter a Safe Space and any limitation of access to a Safe Space can be interpreted as restraint, micro-aggression or contributing to a hostile learning or work environment. WHAT IS A CRY ROOM? A Cry Room, on the other hand, is a much more recent exhibit of a small area for stressed-out students, often during final exams, to have an emotional purge in the privacy of an enclosure softened with stuffed animals and soothing colors. While Ann and David were not aware of Cry Rooms in locations of private employment, Safe Rooms have been available to employees in some public buildings for a few years. These rooms are often discussed with measured words and are somewhat secretive, yet embraced by many workers. Dr. Perrodin was informed by multiple persons in these settings that such rooms are frequently occupied - and not just by someone having a “rotten day”, but also by someone who is discouraged with a societal political event or simply feeling that a work task wasn't “liked” by everyone around the conference table. Yep, “Likes” - external validation - ring a bell? COPING & EMPATHY. Around the country, higher education campuses are seeing a strong increase in the number of students seeking counseling services. Freshman are overwhelmed and struggling to cope with - well, with college/society/friendships/responsibility? Universities are teaching students the benefits of a brisk 10-minute walk as a stress coping mechanism. Really? Ann accidentally, but correctly stumbles upon the reason empathy has declined: No one reads novels. DEBATE. "It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." Aristotle (384BC - 322BC). Debate can be traced back to ancient Greece. David recalls it being championed and tactically instructed in high school until the 1980s. High school debate squads even duked it out on regularly-scheduled televised competitions. Debate is a discussion involving opposing viewpoints. It's becoming informed, informing others and learning the art of persuasion. Debate is a life skill - and perhaps lost to the ages as the 2018 debater is badged a boat-rocker. Separate of this dystopian context, benefits of debate include being able to use words instead of weapons in preserving the non-aggression principle. Persons skilled in debate seek to understand the perspectives of others and respectfully pose arguments and listen to counter-arguments. Yet, professors have stated that students are not only unwilling to learn debate, but the entire idea of wrangling with an idea that is not aligned to their own so-called “beliefs” or knowledge set is nothing short of a perceived attack. Professors have been accused of being cruel and insensitive for even inviting students to engage in innocuous debate such as a hypothetical proposal of beginning the school day at 9:00AM instead of 7:45AM. Off to the Safe Space! Hey Professor...the Dean wants to see you after class… ACADEMIC RIGOR IS A THREAT. Ann and David examine the fundamental pillar of education, of work, of life - that which is rigor - and now has become the source of undue mental burden. Some thought the participation trophy was an omen. Turns out it was just a light breeze that cracked the Pandora's Box - exposing the contents to a precision-tuned culture of silencing. FOLLOW DR. Weiterlesen »
