“Los Angeles is a city that should not exist.” So reads the first line of Paul Haddad's latest book Inventing Paradise: The Power Brokers Who Created the Dream of Los Angeles. L.A., he writes, has no natural features that would lend themselves to sustaining millions of residents. And yet, Los Angeles does exist. And not only that, it's the second-largest city in the country and known the world over for its beautiful weather, diverse population and being the home of American film, among many other things. So, why does a city that shouldn't exist…exist? As Haddad writes, it was willed into existence despite the odds being stacked against it. And while there are many people one could point to as seminal to the story of Los Angeles' existence, Haddad focuses on six individuals who had particularly significant influence on the city's growth. They include investor and newspaper publisher Harry Chandler, businessman Phinneas Banning, one of the founders of the former town, now neighborhood, of Wilmington and the “Father of the Port of Los Angeles” and railroad magnate Henry Huntington, just to name a few. Today on AirTalk, Paul Haddad joins Larry to talk about his new book.

From the Arroyo Seco Parkway, which began construction during the Great Depression, to the Century Freeway, completed in 1993, author Paul Haddad provides an entertaining and thought-provoking history of the 527 miles of roadways that comprise the Los Angeles freeway system. Each of Los Angeles's twelve freeways receives its own chapter, and these are supplemented by "Off-Ramps"--sidebars that dish out pithy factoids about Botts' Dots, SigAlerts, and all matter of freeway lexicon, such as why Southern Californians are the only people in the country who place the word "the" in front of their interstates, as in "the 5," or "the 101." Freewaytopia also explores those routes that never saw the light of day. Imagine superhighways burrowing through Laurel Canyon, tunneling under the Hollywood Sign, or spanning the waters of Santa Monica Bay. With a few more legislative strokes of the pen, you wouldn't have to imagine them--they'd already exist. Haddad is joined in conversation by Steve DeVorkin. _______________________________________________   Produced by Natalie Freeman, Lance Morgan, & Michael Kowaleski. Are we even ready for next-gen? We discuss the effect of Coronavirus on year-end release dates and if we should expect Sony to bump up the price to cover what's under the hood. It's all rather worrying. We also stick with Sony to talk their utterly bizarre patent that was recently discovered showcasing a physical AI robot companion that will play video games with you and tell you when to go to bed. Yeah, that's an actual thing that Sony has either once considered or will move forward with into the next generation. You should probably take a listen to our NSFW impressions on this really rather terrifying patent. We also talk the upcoming Crysis remaster for Xbox One, PS4, PC and Switch(?!). Finally Greg and Sean pay tribute to Paul Haddad, the voice of Leon S Kennedy in Resident Evil 2, who passed away this week. Sean also puts our Mega Drive knowledge to the test in this weeks Trivia Challenge. We also talk our continuing adventures with Final Fantasy VII Remake, The Inner Friend, Animal Crossing New Horizons and a bunch of games that we're all playing that we can't currently talk about. Paul Haddad is an accomplished writer, novelist, TV showrunner, and currently AMC Network Executive. He's also who I refer to as an ambassador of Los Angeles. He loves L.A.! You've probably read some of his books (check them out here). After graduating from USC and wanting to be a documentarian, Paul began traveling the world with the E! show "Wild On." This almost sent him down a path of skimpy bathing suits and models for the rest of his life (what was he thinking?!!) before wanting something more meaningful. Take a listen and hear how he got into science-based shows and recreations before flipping back and forth from the dark side as a network executive, and why he loves doing both. ***** PLEASE ENGAGE AND SUBSCRIBE Follow and like us on Facebook or Instagram You can also access all of the different apps and platforms this podcast plays on (9 in all) here: Official Podcast Page Terence Michael's book "PRODUCE YOURSELF: Apply Hollywood's Proven Formula To Become The Hero Of Your Life" is available everywhere. And PLEASE SUBSCRIBE on iTunes/Apple Podcasts so we know you like the show and want to hear more episodes. ***** SHOW DESCRIPTION: What began as a humorous analysis of just behind the scenes TV and film production (originally with co-host, director/producer and comedian Ian Gelfand), has now grown into an observation of The Hero’s Journey taken by professionals working in all aspects of Hollywood. The focus is on obstacles, side-hustles, approach, process, optimization and seeking peak performance both on set and off. This podcast is about learning to “Produce Yourself” in many areas of life, by hearing from people who have fought to get where they are in movies and television. ABOUT THE HOST: Emmy-nominated producer, Terence Michael, has produced over 20 movies and 30 TV shows (Duck Dynasty). He additionally hosts 2 podcasts about the entertainment industry. In his spare time, he invests in real estate, runs a mortgage business, and consults entrepreneurs on how to monetize their passions and be happy in the process. Terence has been developing, producing, and delivering story content, from film to television, over the course of ownership in three separate production companies covering most of the major studios, networks, and agencies in "Hollywood." He has now produced feature films distributed by studios such as Sony, Universal, MGM, Lionsgate, and HBO; and executive produced television shows airing on networks such as NBC, Fox, MTV, VH1, Showtime, Lifetime, TLC, Spike, Esquire, Syfy, Travel Channel, and A&E. Terence enjoys both developing and producing intellectual properties and formats for 100% Terry Cloth as well as show running other existing network or cable shows. Additionally, he has guest lectured and consulted on development, financing, story, packaging, and nuts-and-bolts producing panels for the Cannes Film Festival, the Los Angeles Film Festival, Independent Film Project West (IFP), Film ITConference, the SXSW Film Festival, AFI, and UCLA Film Extension; has been featured in magazines and publications, such as The Los Angeles Times, MovieMaker, Moving Pictures, Back Stage West, Independent Film and Video, Screenwriters Utopia, Writers Script Network, Venice Magazine, Newsweek, Details, The Christian Science Monitor, FitSmallBusiness.com, MyCorporation.com, Business.com, MagnifyMoney.com, and The PennyHoarder.com. He received an Emmy nomination in 2017 for Travel Channel's "Planet Primetime." Terence Michael has collaborated with many artists and brands in his films and TV shows, including: Actors: Scarlett Johansson, Ben Stiller, Sarah Jessica Parker, Vera Farmiga, Jeffrey Tambor, Tea Leoni, Tom Sizemore, Katherine Heigl, Peter Dinklage, Giovanni Ribisi, Cuba Gooding, Jr., Patrick Dempsey, Jaime Pressly, Mia Kirshner, Michael McKean, Britt Robertson, Oliver Hudson, Emmanuelle Chriqui, Jonathan Tucker, Nora Dunn, Skeet Ulrich, Cheryl Ladd, Alan King, Elizabeth Reaser, Megan Mullaly, Jennifer Morrison, Erin Bartlett, Jesse Bradford, Adam Goldberg, David Krumholtz, James Tupper, Jill Clayburgh, Eric Szmanda, Eric Mabius, Eric Schaeffer, and lates Alan King, Jill Clayburgh, John Heard Comedians: Adam Carolla, Tom Green, Chris Hardwick, Flula Borg, Ken Marino, Alonzo Bodden Athletes: Football’s Vince Papale, basketball’s Rick Barry, motocross’ James Stewart, Ryan Dungey, Todd Potter, and the Metal Mulisha team, skateboarding’s Tony Hawk, Buckey Lasek, Jason Ellis and snowboarding’s Shawn White, triathlete’s Wendy Ingraham and Chris Legh Musicians: Aimee, Mann, The Verve Pipe, Jill Sobule, Blink 182, Amanda Kravat, Foxy Brown, Usher, Vanessa Carlton Hosts/Authors: Amanda De Cadenet, Karla Cavalli, Allen Haff, Paul McKenna, Lisa Williams, Grant Imahara, Leeann Tweeden Brands: RedBull, Degree, Monster, Playboy, Jabbawockeez, The Golden Nugget, Joe’s Crab Shack, Oakley, the Duck Dynasty family

Mehr lesbare Ware anbei: Thunderbolt Technology Community: Thunderbolt™ 3 – The USB-C That Does It All The Verge: Intel admits USB-C is the connector of the future by adopting it for Thunderbolt 3 Nachtrag: Workflow Thema “Shell Outputs”. Iris ankommen. Mehr Dioptrinfutter: iDownloadBlog: The fine print of Google Photos and why you shouldn’t ditch iCloud Photo Library just yet Google: Official Google Blog: Picture this: A fresh approach to Photos zCasting 3000 in neuem Gewand zCasting 3000 hat sich ein neues Gewand spediert. Side-by-side + Split View = Mission Control endlich nützlich? Metal für den Mac. Schnellere Grafikberechnung (40% “besser” als OpenGL). Auch UI-technisch und ebenfalls in Adobe Produkten. Hoffnung. Neid. Multi-Tasking Interesting the new split view two-apps at once thing is only available on iPad Air 2. Oh… I feel a vibration coming from Italy. Might be @viticci stomping his feet and fist-pump like there's no tomorrow. #multiappmode— Patrick Welker (@_patrickwelker) June 8, 2015 Außerdem: Swift 2 Swift 2 ist nun Open Source. Sehr cool. "We paid out 30 billion dollars to app developers". Don't like this angle. It's our money, we pay Apple in fact.— Ortwin Gentz (@ortwingentz) June 8, 2015 Außerdem verkündet Tim, dass der Durchschnittsnutzer 119 Apps installiert hat. One More Thing:  Music So I get no new hardware because its a developer conference. What’s this music crap have to do with developers?— Paul Haddad (@tapbot_paul) June 8, 2015 Größeres, besseres Ökosystem für Musik. YouTube: “Shit.”— Marco Arment (@marcoarment) June 8, 2015 Handverlesene Musik “Connect” = Verbundener mit den Stars und Sternchen sein Beats-one combo (curation + radio) “revolutionary music service” “24/7 global radio” Seriously, how many times have we tried to have a social network for musicians? Seriously. I'm not sure this will work.— Christina Warren (@film_girl) June 8, 2015 Christina hat recht. Digging the prominence of playlists. I'm a curator. I never warmed up to the artist and album views… pic.twitter.com/UnRNsG8tIv— Patrick Welker (@_patrickwelker) June 8, 2015 Außerdem: Apple Music gibt’s im Herbst auch für Android. Die ersten 3 Monate sind kostenfrei. Sechsköpfige Familien zahlen $14.99. It's gonna take six people three months just to figure out what the hell this is.— Merlin Mann (@hotdogsladies) June 8, 2015 Lemke Software, der GraphicConverter und die Welt Thorsten erzählt uns erst einmal seit wann es mit Lemke Software gibt und wie alles angefangen hat.
