If you don't want this, go to Settings - Notifications - Messages, then scroll down to “Customize Notifications” and “Repeat Alerts.” You'll see by default the alert is set to repeat “Once” but you can up the repeats or set it to “Never” repeat. You must be using iCloud Photo Library then go to Share and tap “Options” to select between Automatic, Individual Photo / Video, or iCloud Link. If you want to check out the new video edition of the podcast, please go to: https://youtu.be/FBBmA9YDNfQ where you can subscribe, give thumbs up and ring bells like YouTubers have been asking you to do for years. You know the drill. Also, our apologies for the hum in the audio throughout the entire episode. The problem has been identified and the source (Dan) has been taken out back and schooled on the difference between mic-level and line-level audio feeds. He promises it won't happen again... often. Now, on to the show. This week, Dan, Brian and Erik tackle the recent changes announced by Apple regarding moves to protect children from online predators and from the passing of illegal material about children. The project has three parts, each with its own benefits and concerns. We cover them each individually: First, the scanning of messages inbound to minors (Under 18s) on a Apple Family Sharing account in which images are tested for inappropriateness, blurred and the child alerted that they may be about to look at something that they may want to reconsider. If they are under 13 and decide to view the image the parents are notified. This is an opt-in programme and parents decide whether or not to join for the family. Next comes the proactive scanning of iCloud Photo Library stored at Apple. For a long time many have wondered why end-to-end encryption had not been put into iCloud, and this is a likely factor. The photos are tested against the hashes of a set of known images containing child pornography and issues are raised to the authorities. This is and has been happening on other cloud photo services including Microsoft and Flickr for some time. Finally, and most controvertially from a privacy perspective, Apple is implementing a proactive test of the hashes ofphotos stored on customers' Apple devices against this same set of known images. In the US there is no law that prevents this but runs counter to the marketing emphasis Apple has placed on the privacy of data within their devices. The method is rather intricate and strives to prevent Apple from seeing anything unless it suspects there are systemic child pornography issues at bay. These technology approaches change the game for prosecutors and law enforcement, and they expose issues earlier. But what happens when this capability gets expanded, or brought into law as mandatory for use against its citizens who speak out politically, or is taken over by bad actors? Look at the link in the show notes regarding the keys the TSA made for physical locks at the airport - every hole is a potential future vulnerability. Does the end justify the means? We discuss in depth on this week's Great Security Debate! Had Macca's, played with the conversation prompt cards from Instagram (they were a hit!), chucked sticks in the river, Alfie and I climbed up to a cubby up in a tree, we picked wild fennel and made a tea with it (boys surprisingly liked it), took them for spins on the Vespa - by and large, a nice and whine-free hangout. Snacked a lot, checked in on work. Got a bit dragged into a Twitter debate around the Apple announcement about scanning for CSAM on iPhones and in iCloud Photo Library. God damn. Pretty weird issue with a lot of greys, but essentially I think it's good - and I don't think Apple is choosing to do this just so they can offer governments a way to search people's phones for anything they want to monitor. It shouldn't be a surprise that sheeple immediately jump to the “Apple is a big company so of course they're evil” stance. It's annoying though. Before I even saw discussion about it again this morning, I was already thinking about what my major malfunction is with being such a baby about people having different opinions to me on certain subjects. Wouldn't we all be happier if I was just in charge and everyone thought the same as me and we all had just one font of truth? Hawthorn always win the Premiership, Oasis albums get five stars, Android doesn't exist, Australia is the one global superpower, etc.. Anyways. Watching Pixar's Luca. M: 7.5. E: 7. L: 1.

An iPhone and iPad is the perfect combination of tech for your parents and grandparents. Its touch-friendly interface makes it easy to interact with and, for the most part, everything just works together seamlessly. So, here is a little guide to setting up an iPhone or iPad for the older generation and some features you may want to adjust. https://youtu.be/B7MYCXnsink AppleID The first thing you want to do is create them an AppleID. This account can be used to sync all their personal information without it getting mixed in with yours. If they already have an email you can use it to create their AppleID. If they don't already have an email then you can create them an iCloud account. You can sign in or create a new AppleID either during the setup process or later in Settings. To sign in to their AppleID after setting up the iDevice open Settings. If you signed into their account previously or during setup you will see their profile at the top of Settings. If your account is signed you can sign out by clicking on your profile and scrolling to the bottom then tapping sign out. You may have to enter your AppleID password a few times to disable services like Find My iPhone. If there is no account currently signed in you will be given the option to sign in or create an account. This is where you would enter their AppleID credentials. Once you have signed into their account there are a few settings you may want to adjust, such as iCloud Services. Start by clicking the profile at the top of Settings then tap on iCloud. All the services set to sync through iCloud are shown here. Some services you make want to take a closer look at are Messages, iCloud Photo Library, and iCloud Backup. Speaking of iCloud Backup, it's a great idea to keep a backup of their device. If they lose or break their phone you will have another way to get their data back. However, enabling iCloud Backup, Messages in the cloud, and iCloud Photo Library will quickly burn through your 5GB of free cloud space which will result in that annoying popup that your iCloud storage is full. So, if you want to use one or more of these services you will need to purchase more iCloud storage at a monthly fee. If you prefer not to use these services you can always disable them. To disable iCloud Photo Library, open Photos and toggle iCloud Photos off. Now, go back and select iCloud Backup and toggle that off, then you can do the same with Messages. The other services listed here don't count toward your data allowance, so, they don't hurt anything being enabled this lighter data will just sync across all of your devices in the background. Home Screen Now that everything is syncing correctly it's time to clean up the Home screen. The goal is to declutter the home screen including only the essentials apps that will the used by the user like Phone, Camera, Photos, Email, and such. Apps like the Compass, Measure, and Home can probably go. On an iPhone, you can get rid of apps by moving them to the App Library. Hold down that app until the options menu appears. From that menu choose "Remove App" and you can choose to either "Remove from Home Screen" which will move the app to the App library or you can completely remove the app from your device by tapping "Delete App". iPad users can remove apps the same way however since there is no App Library on iPad yet the only option is to delete the app. Another way you can handle this is by dragging all unwanted apps into a single folder and moving it to the side. Shortcuts With your home screen cleaned up, it's time to add some more to it. With the Shortcuts app, you can create quick access to different features. For instance, with one tap you can make a phone call or turn the flashlight on and off without having to dive into menus. There is so much here that you can play around with, but I'm only going to cover how to make a one-click call. So,

If you use Apple’s Photos app on your Mac or iOS device, are you also synchronizing your images via iCloud Photo Library? In this week’s episode, Jeff and Kirk talk about the pros and cons of Apple’s cloud service for photos. Why should you consider it? What are the downsides? And if you have your images in the cloud, is that considered a backup? (No, it’s not. We explain why.) Around the 14 minutes mark, Liz shares a tip that is useful if you need to quickly transfer pictures and files between your iPhone and your Mac, then explains what prevented her from getting a paragraph return on Instagram from her iPhone. Then I explain how to leverage the automatic photo upload from Dropbox in case you don't want to use iCloud Photo Library and prefer organising your pictures in folders and subfolders, yet have them backed up in the cloud as well.

Welcome to Episode Number 40! Today on the podcast, I will talk about one of my favorite apps. But first, here is a little tech news for you. News. https://www.cnet.com/news/microsofts-satya-nadella-thinks-ai-can-improve-tech-for-the-disability-community/ Microsoft's Nadella thinks AI can improve tech for people with disabilities The tech giant Microsoft announced on May 7, 2018 that they have launched a $25 million, five-year program to encourage software and device developers to design products using artificial intelligence are aimed at the disabled community. AI or artificial intelligence could enable apps that describe what people see, better text-to-speech technology and predictive text so people don't have to type as much. This is fantastic news for the tech community and the special needs/disability community. The Microsoft app for iPhones called Seeing AI is an awesome app that narrates the view for people who are blind or have vision disorders. It can read text and handwritten notes. It can describe an object or a scene. App Bear - iPad, iPhone and Mac Bear is a new note taking and writing app. It includes a focus mode and also allows you to use a variety of fonts. Advanced markup options and full in-line image support sets this apps apart from other apps. You can also add files, links and written notes within you Bear note. You can view word count while type in the app. The app allows you to share you Note as a PDF or Word doc. The app has some accessibility features such as a high contrast mode and the Open Dyslexic font. The app also allows text to speech. Tech Tip How to Store All Your Photos and Videos in the Cloud Uploading photos to the cloud has a couple of advantages over storing them on your device: You can easily share the albums with others. You can access the photos and videos at any time and on other devices as long as you have an Internet connection. You have a backup of all your photos in case something happens to the copy on your device. Apple has iCloud Photo Library. I use iCloud to store my photos and also to sync them on my various devices. I have purchased some extra iCloud storage so I have plenty of room for all my photos and videos. The photos and videos are uploaded automatically to iCloud once the feature is enabled. For non-Apple users and Apple users, there are quite a few other options. The most popular choices here are Google Photos, Dropbox, OneDrive or Flickr. I upload all my photos to Dropbox in addition to iCloud. Dropbox can also be configured to automatically backup your photos from your phone. https://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/how-to-store-all-your-photos-in-the-cloud/ Thanks for listening to Your App Lady today! Neben jeder Menge Altlasten bzw. It’s still not clear to me how Apple will manage HEIF and HEVC in iCloud Photo Library. I have the public beta of iOS 11 installed on an iPad, and the photos taken with it sync properly to iCloud, but on my other devices, the show up as JPEG files, not containers. It’s possible that the central iCloud sync will retain HEIF files and sync JPEG to the end points, but then what happens when you edit a file on a Mac running an older version? That’s what we’ll have to wait to find out. Macworld: Will new HEVC and HEIF formats work in older versions of macOS and iOS? The problem, of course, is always with backwards-compatibility. WebP was aggressively promoted by Google the same way Microsoft used to promote its quirky Windows Media formats back in the early 2000s, but the WebP and non-WebP camps are still largely separate. This is unfortunate, because WebP in my opinion really isn’t very good, and a backwards-compatible compressor on top of JPEG, such as Dropbox’s Lepton [2] achieves similar results. Any HEVC-based image compressor is necessarily incompatible with JPEG; so broad buy-in would be required from makers of software and hardware products, from operating systems, file managers, image viewers, image editors, cameras, and the like, to really enjoy its improved compression rates, vs. being just another incompatible format that only functions inside controlled ecosystems. Hacker News: HEIF – High Efficiency Image File Format einseitige Übersetzung per Siri “Dark mode” via smart invert (images, media, some apps that use dark color style => funktioniert nicht überall gut) What’s New in iOS 11 Unsere Picks Patrick: Blackroll Andreas: Gboard In Spenderlaune? Mehr lesbare Ware anbei: Thunderbolt Technology Community: Thunderbolt™ 3 – The USB-C That Does It All The Verge: Intel admits USB-C is the connector of the future by adopting it for Thunderbolt 3 Nachtrag: Workflow Thema “Shell Outputs”. Iris ankommen. Mehr Dioptrinfutter: iDownloadBlog: The fine print of Google Photos and why you shouldn’t ditch iCloud Photo Library just yet Google: Official Google Blog: Picture this: A fresh approach to Photos zCasting 3000 in neuem Gewand zCasting 3000 hat sich ein neues Gewand spediert. Side-by-side + Split View = Mission Control endlich nützlich? Metal für den Mac. Schnellere Grafikberechnung (40% “besser” als OpenGL). Auch UI-technisch und ebenfalls in Adobe Produkten. Hoffnung. Neid. Multi-Tasking Interesting the new split view two-apps at once thing is only available on iPad Air 2. Oh… I feel a vibration coming from Italy. Might be @viticci stomping his feet and fist-pump like there's no tomorrow. #multiappmode— Patrick Welker (@_patrickwelker) June 8, 2015 Außerdem: Swift 2 Swift 2 ist nun Open Source. Sehr cool. "We paid out 30 billion dollars to app developers". Don't like this angle. It's our money, we pay Apple in fact.— Ortwin Gentz (@ortwingentz) June 8, 2015 Außerdem verkündet Tim, dass der Durchschnittsnutzer 119 Apps installiert hat. One More Thing:  Music So I get no new hardware because its a developer conference. What’s this music crap have to do with developers?— Paul Haddad (@tapbot_paul) June 8, 2015 Größeres, besseres Ökosystem für Musik. YouTube: “Shit.”— Marco Arment (@marcoarment) June 8, 2015 Handverlesene Musik “Connect” = Verbundener mit den Stars und Sternchen sein Beats-one combo (curation + radio) “revolutionary music service” “24/7 global radio” Seriously, how many times have we tried to have a social network for musicians? Seriously. I'm not sure this will work.— Christina Warren (@film_girl) June 8, 2015 Christina hat recht. Digging the prominence of playlists. I'm a curator. I never warmed up to the artist and album views… pic.twitter.com/UnRNsG8tIv— Patrick Welker (@_patrickwelker) June 8, 2015 Außerdem: Apple Music gibt’s im Herbst auch für Android. Die ersten 3 Monate sind kostenfrei. Sechsköpfige Familien zahlen $14.99. It's gonna take six people three months just to figure out what the hell this is.— Merlin Mann (@hotdogsladies) June 8, 2015 Lemke Software, der GraphicConverter und die Welt Thorsten erzählt uns erst einmal seit wann es mit Lemke Software gibt und wie alles angefangen hat.
