Jaime Masters (Tardy) is a 7-figure business coach, keynote speaker, bestselling author, mother, entrepreneur, and someone who I am excited about having on the show today. She is the woman behind the Eventual Millionaire website and podcast. She is also the bestselling author of The Eventual Millionaire book which we are going to talk about today. She has interviewed over 200 millionaire entrepreneurs and has been featured on major news outlets like CNN, MSN, Success Magazine, and Yahoo. Today we are going to talk about her book “The Eventual Millionaire” and what it has meant for Jaime’s business and coaching along with the marketing side of the book. Jaime is a good friend of mine, and we have talked about the book often, and I am really excited to have her on the show.   You can find Jaime here: Eventual Millionaire Eventual Millionaire Podcast Jaime on Twitter @eventualmillion The Eventual Millionaire by Jaime Tardy Jaime Masters on LinkedIn   Show Notes   [01:32] Jaime thought she wasn't a good writer, but her website was taking off and she made writing a book a goal. She also had agents interested because she had an audience from her website.[03:35] The agent contacting Jaime was timely because earlier she had made writing a book one of her goals but had put it on the backburner. [04:46] She had to decide whether to self-publish or publish traditionally. She had a story because she quit a high paying job and got out of $70,000 in debt. [07:24] Writing with a traditional publisher and meeting the deadlines can be difficult. [08:15] The purpose of the book was to condense all of her interview information for her readers. The book also helped her coaching career because people will get behind a book and promote you. The book helped with leads for her products and speaking engagements. [10:05] Also the bloggers that rose to the top had books, she wanted to also have that credibility. Her kids also thought it was pretty neat.   [12:10] She found her book on the shelf at Barnes & Noble on 5th Ave. in New York.[13:06] Writing the book proposal took about three months. Just getting the book to the publisher took about a year. [18:36] How the editors and marketing from the traditional publisher weren't done very well, so Jaime still had to do additional editing and marketing. She would self-publish in the future. [21:55] Having a list is great for marketing. Always build an audience. She also added her friend's list and it equaled a million and a half people. She also did guests posts, giveaways, videos, and a landing page. She also followed a lot of Jay Baer's marketing advice. [27:26] They were sending free books to people for marketing when they did a guest post they would send a book for the host and one for them to giveaway. [29:03] She also had a press page for the book with images and tweets and everything someone would need to promote the book. The audience that moved the most books were audiences that knew her from well-trafficked blogs. She thinks anyway. [32:22] The credibility of the book for press and clients were great. Books also force you to systemize your knowledge. [36:17] She had links in the book to get leads. People who have read your book are well-qualified leads. She also had a funnel set up for the backend. The book was the first part of the funnel. The money comes from the backend. [44:00] Her parting tip for new authors is to find someone who has done it before, so you know what works or hire someone who does. Learning the process on your own is a lot. Know what you need to know.   Links and Resources: self-publishingschool.com Spsfreetraining.com Pat Flynn Jay Baer Leadpages Daily Worth Business Insider The Eventual Millionaire Book Page Eventual Millionaire Eventual Millionaire Podcast Jaime on Twitter @eventualmillion The Eventual Millionaire by Jaime Tardy Jaime Masters on LinkedIn

My wife Veena and I spent the last 3 days at one of the biggest internet marketing conferences in North America, called Traffic & Conversion, put on by Ryan Deiss and Perry Belcher and the awesome team at Digital Marketer. It was really good. 3 days of non-stop sessions and talks. Of course, Veena and I, because we live in San Diego, just had to drive like 1/2 hour to get to the hotel where the seminar was being held. And on the 2nd day, we even took off early, came back home, watched most of a basketball game between Lebron James's Cleveland Cavaliers, and Kobe Bryant's LA Lakers. And then we went back to an awesome party later in the evening, which I'll tell you all about in a minute here. So here are some of my thoughts and ideas about the event itself, as well as my spiel on how to do an internet marketing conference well. #1) It was very telling that a room with seating for 500 was jam packed for a session about how someone is killing it with Periscope. And in the very next rook, it was mostly crickets where someone was talking about Podcast monetization. Now, I know for a fact that most people with podcasts aren't making money. In fact, out of the few thousand shows that are launched each month, most of them will not get past episode 10, most won't ever grow their audience, they won't get traction, the host will eventually lose interest or get discouraged that no one's listening or just find the next shiny new thing, and they will all eventually "podfade" - that's the term used to describe podcasts that just fade slowly over time. So why were there more people in the Periscope session than a Podcast session? Isn't that amazing? That just tells me that most people still don't get it, that Podcasts are the single greatest medium for establishing authority, proving your expertise, building really deep connections with your audience, because you are literally inside their head while they're listening to you, they cannot fast forward, they are the most attentive because they're probably multi-tasking as they walking the dog or do the dishes or laundry or clean the house or going out on a run - by the way, those are the times I listen to podcasts as well. Recently I was at the dentist, for a cleaning session that lasted more than an hour. And I had to do that twice in a week. And my dentist has a very posh set up - they have a TV screen on the ceiling, so you can be lying down, getting your teeth drilled into, and watch Ellen Degenres at the same time. But guess what I did instead? I asked them to turn off the TV, I put on my behind-the-ear bluetooth headphones and listened to podcasts the entire time. Alex Blumberg from Startup and Sarah Keonig from Serial were inside my head the whole time. Some of the people whose fan I've become lately, are all podcasters whose shows I regularly listen to - like James Schramko from superfastbusiness, or Dave Jackson from school of podcasting, or Daniel J Lewis from theaudacitytopodcast. Podcasting is such an intimate, personal platform, that it just blew my mind to see just a fraction of the audience for a podcasting session compared to a session about Periscope. You know why? Periscope is the shiny new thing that everyone's and their dog is creating content with. And at the end of the day, do you know what is the same ol same ol problem that everyone's going to have on Periscope? It's building an audience. Doesn't matter what platform you are on. The platform can only go so far in helping you get some free traffic. Whether it is blogging on Medium, or getting your show on New & Noteworthy on iTunes (Dave Jackson, if you're listening, I just threw up in my mouth just a little bit). Whether is is creating videos on youtube or scoping on Periscope or Blabbing on blab, the age-old problem that will haunt 99% of the content creators, is that they will not find an audience, they won't be able to grow an audience, they won't be able to get traction, they won't be able to monetize it. And then they'll simply move on to the next new shiny thing. And those who stay, pick maybe just a couple of platforms, and go really really deep into it, and figure out how to reach more people, keep more people, provide tons of value and also figure out how to influence that audience to go do whatever it is that you want them to do - whether it is to inspire people or educate or entertain or sell books or sell ads, those are the people who will go on to win, regardless of the platform. And whichever platform you go to, it's the same case - it's the 1%ers versus the 99%ers. #2) So I did start by going to the Podcast session first. But the speaker was such a deadbeat, he was from a podcast monetization company - I won't name any names here. But he just absolutely killed it - as in, not in a good way. He was actually killing the audience with boredome. He was speaking on a low, monotonous tone, had the abolutely worst slides I have ever seen, with horribly lazy images that looked like he probably spent no more than 1 minute finding the right image for each slide. No energy, no excitement, and the worst thing? He worked for the company that was doing the presentation that taught you how to monetize your content. See the blatant conflict of interest there? Yeah, it sucked. So Veena and I skipped out after 15 minutes, and that's how we ended up at the neighboring Periscope session. So, it's not just about getting the audience, but you have to be good enough to keep them. And this guy couldn't hold our attention because he sucked big time, and lost us very early. And it's going to happen to you too with your audience, whether you're doing a podcast, or a blab or a periscope. So focus on the hook, on the message, and delivering great content and delivering it in a really good way. The platform is secondary. And you'll be a fool if you ignored podcasting just because it's not as sexy and exciting as Periscope. #3) If you are going to spend time, money and effort on going to a seminar, then don't waste it all on just going to the sessions. I mean, sure, pick and choose a few, like I did with the Gary Vaynerchuk session at the end of day 1. Gary Vee absolutely rocked the place. Check out his podcast ask gary vee, and he might be an acquired taste for some, but just stick with it for a few episodes, and there's a good chance you'll become a huge fan, like me. So feel free to handpick a couple of sessions, but don't waste all of your time just shuttling from session to session. The biggest gold is out there in the hallways, running into folks, crash conversations if you have to, just don't be a jerk and start handing out your cards. Join the conversation quietly, as long as it's a large enough group, wait for someone to talk to you, just invite yourself. Don't say "Hi, I'm Ravi Jayagopal, Co-Founder & Co-Developer of DigitalAccessPass.com, one of the leading membership plugins for WordPress". Don't do that. Say something like "Hi, my name is Ravi Jayagopal". And wait for someone to ask you what you do. Then say something low-key like "I own a software business. It's called digitalaccesspass". In my case, most people would say, "Oh, DAP, I know you guys" I use DAP or I used to use DAP. And some would say Oh, so what does digitalaccesspass do? And then you give them just a little bit more. You say "it's a membership plugin for WordPress". See how I'm giving it piece by piece, and only when asked. That's the way to enter a conversation with a group of strangers and not be shunned as a jerk. So hang out outside in the halls more than the sessions. You can always pay for the recording of all the sessions. You'll anyway not be able to go to all of the breakout sessions. So if you think you want the content, then order the recordings. And focus as much as you can on networking and making connections. So in our case, Veena and I were invited to a very exclusive party of who's who, so we went home early, got refreshed and drove back for the party. And I'm telling you, it was an incredible group of people that we rubbed shoulders with. Yes, I'm going to drop some names. So sue me. Chris Farrel, Andrew Lock, E Brian Rose from JVZoo, James Dyson and team from Optimize Press, John Lee Dumas from Entreprenuronfire, Jaime Tardy from eventual millionaire, Luria Petrucci, formerly known as Cali Lewis from Geek beat TV and the Leo Laporte show, wow, it was absolutely amazing. In facdt, if you go to the show notes for this show at subscribeme.fm/19, you'll see a cool selfie of me and John Lee Dumas outside the women's restroom. No, we weren't doing anything crazy. Just figured out outside the men's room as we were leaving, that I didn't have a selfie with John. He's such an incredibly down-to-earth guy for someone who's such a big name. In fact, every single one of them there were such movers and shakers, and they were all so incredibly human and humble, that it was just mind blowing. And by the way, John Lee Dumas has also given me an amazing testimonial for my book at SubscribeMeBook.com. Here's what he said about my book: Ravi is one of the foremost authorities on membership sites & online courses. Every bit of his writing comes from years of selling online and helping others set up membership sites. If you want to learn from the best about recurring income and IGNITE your brand, this is THE book to read. - John Lee Dumas, EOFire.com Check out my book at subscribemebook.com, also on amazon - just search for subscribe me - one words or two words, and both will bring up my book towards the top. So that was my mini-soapbox rant about conferences and audience building and platforms. If you take away just one thing from this episode, then make sure to go deep, then wide. As in, go really deep into your niche, or your marketing platform, before you go wide and move to the next big shiny thing. If you get into podcasting, stick with it. If you write a Kindle book, go deep and don't just launch your book and forget about it. Promote it, get the message out. Go as a guest on other people's shows. Do your "book tour" before you fall for the shiny object syndrome. There's going to be something new everyday. Videos, youtube, kindle, podasting, blab, periscope, and snapchat - man, Gary Vee is so into snapchat, it's just crazy. There's facebook, pinterest, instagram, on and on and on. Don't get caught up with trying to be everywhere all at the same time. You can't. Nobody can. So pick one or two platforms where most of your target audience hangs out, and just go deep into it, and crush it till the cows come home. Thank you so much for listening to the SubscribeMe show at SubscribeMe.fm. And if you want to offer me any kind of feedback, or check out the John Lee Dumas selfie with me in front of the ladies room, or for to contact me, go to http://subscribeme.fm/19/ Cheers and talk to you on the next episode.

Welcome to Episode 1 of Products of the Mind. This episode features something that’s never been done before (to my knowledge.) Not only is this the first episode of this podcast, it’s the first podcast I’ve ever created. I knew that I wanted to talk about creativity and business, and I listened to tons of podcasts to get inspiration on how to make this the best show that I could do. And I wanted to start out with a bang. So let’s consider this not just the first episode, but also a Very Special Episode. I decided to do something that, to my knowledge, has never been done before. I approached 16 of the top podcasters, people I really admire who’ve been successful in this medium, and asked them all the same question. I’m calling this my 1 Question Interview. The question is, “When do you feel most creative?“ In this episode you’re going to hear about creativity from podcasters including Pat Flynn, John Lee Dumas, Kate Erickson, Jaime Tardy, Michael O’Neal, Omar Zenhom, and many more. It’s like The Avengers of podcasting - all your favorite heroes in one exciting adventure. The range of answers to my 1 Question Interview surprised me. Some people talked about times of the day. Some made reference to a certain type of activity. A few talked about specific places where they felt creative. But those places ranged from “sitting on my furry rug” to “traveling through North Korea." I definitely didn’t expect that one. But first, a bit about me. I’m David Lizerbram. I’m a business law strategist. Oh, and now I can add “podcaster” to the list of things I do. I podcast from sunny San Diego, California, where for the last ten or so years, I’ve been helping entrepreneurs solve problems and achieve their goals. I have a background in the creative arts - I went to USC film school (then known as the School of Cinema-Television; now the School of Cinematic Arts) and spent years playing in rock bands. But I’ve also always been fascinated by business and entrepreneurship. Over the years, I’ve found that entrepreneurs and people who consider themselves creative professionals have a lot in common. I started this podcast to have a conversation about those traits and what leads people to become innovative problem solvers and communicators. So in future episodes, I'm going to do interviews with interesting people to try to dig into that. I’m also going to do some episodes where I share some legal tips and case studies to help give a bit of guidance to my listeners. On to the 1 Question Interviews. Remember: the question is “When do you feel most creative?” The first few answers had to do with the time of day when people feel creative. Check out the show for answers from: • Pat Flynn of Smart Passive Income • John Lee Dumas of EOFire • Mike Vardy of Productivityist • Anthony Tran of Marketing Access Pass • Lou Mongello of WDW Radio The next few answers had to do with places that spark creativity. • Michael O'Neal of The Solopreneur Hour • Jaime Tardy of Eventual Millionaire • Omar Zenhom of $100 MBA • Steven Shalowitz of The One-Way Ticket Show The final group is a bit of a catchall – let’s call it circumstances where one feels creative. • Elise Cripe of Elise Gets Crafty • Cliff Ravenscraft of Podcast Answer Man • Joel Boggess of The ReLaunch Show • Jordan Harbinger of The Art of Charm • Meron Bereket of Inspiring Innovation • Joon Han of Your Biz Rocks • Kate Erickson of Kate’s Take and EOFire For those playing along, the shortest answer was from Meron Bereket of Inspiring Innovation and the longest was from Steven Shalowitz of The One Way Ticket Show. I hope this got you thinking about when you feel most creative. Feel free to leave a comment on the podcast page at Productsofthemind.net or through Twitter @davidlizerbram and let me know when you feel most creative. And I guess it’s only fair that I answer the question too. So here we go: I’m David Lizerbram from Products of the Mind and I feel most creative when I’m in a conversation with someone who is sharing their insights and life experience. I don’t think most people have the ability to just sit on a remote mountaintop and come up with great ideas. Creativity comes from interacting with other people, collaborating, arguing, trying things out. Thanks for Checking Out Products of the Mind! #71: Masterminding Your Way to Success

Online Marketing Made Easy with Amy Porterfield

Play Episode Listen Later Aug 15, 2015 49:33

Next time you're networking with a group of entrepreneurs, keep your ears peeled for a certain word floating above the conversation. The word is "mastermind," and it's a concept that is trickling down from the multimillion-dollar start-up set to homegrown entrepreneurs like you and me. If you're not familiar with the term, the term "mastermind" can have a very "Great and Powerful Oz" sound about it. Simply put, a mastermind is a small, very focused group of business owners who meet regularly to sharpen and strengthen their business strategies. One of the biggest advocates around for mastermind groups is Jaime Tardy, founder of EventualMillionaire.com. Jaime is the kind of person anyone would want in their mastermind group--she has razor-sharp focus, unwavering commitment to her goals, an insatiable appetite to learn...and she's also a lot of fun to talk with! Jaime joined me this week to talk all things mastermind, and the takeaway is hugely informative. If you've been thinking about creating or joining a mastermind, or even if this is the first time you've the term, this episode is going to spell out exactly what the benefits are, what kind of mastermind you should be looking for, and how to conduct operations once you get started. Jaime also put together a worksheet for forming your own mastermind, complete with email scripts for contacting potential members. Click here to download it so you can get started right away! EPISODE FREEBIE Get the 6 Easy Steps for Forming a Mastermind FREE DOWNLOAD Should I Pay to Join a Mastermind? There are lots of opportunities out there to join an existing mastermind for a subscription fee. I did this early in my business, and it was helpful...but Jaime says that the most valuable masterminds don't involve money changing hands. "Peer masterminds," as they're sometimes called, have these advantages over paid groups: You have equal say to everyone else in the group--no single person is controlling it. They tend to last longer than paid subscription-based groups. It's easier to form true friendships with others in the mastermind. Should My Mastermind Only Have People from My Niche? Definitely not! Jaime is in a mastermind with a financial advisor, an internet marketer, and a professional sword swallower! What they do have in common is a high regard for systems and processes, and a level of success that they're trying to reach. "You have heard the quote, 'You are the average of the five people that surround you.' We want the level of just about everyone else in the group to be about the same, or at least have different niches of what they can talk about. You want to make sure that each person has an expertise that other people could use." It's also a good idea to reach out to at least one or two people who are way more experienced or profitable than you currently are. These people will raise the bar on the meetings and bring insight that could take you months (or years!) to achieve. These people should be at the top of your list to invite to your mastermind...even if it's a little scary to reach out to them. "If it scares you, that’s a good thing. You are going to be creating something that you can have for three to five years. This group could help your business make so much money. Yes, you might be super scared to email them once. But what’s the worst that will happen?" What Happens in a Mastermind Meeting? You can organize a mastermind meeting in any way that makes sense, but here is the rough outline that Jaime's mastermind uses: First 15 minutes: The group goes around on the call and shares their wins from the previous week. Whether it's making a million dollars or cleaning off their desk, no victory is too small to share. "We are always looking forward, and never realize the amazing stuff that we are already accomplishing. So being able to share that lets us all rejoice in each other’s wins. And it is really inspiring." 30-40 minutes: Each week, one member takes the hot seat with a specific issue they're facing in their business. They bring any collateral or examples that can help inform the members about the issue--they might even email everyone ahead of time. The rest of the group will weigh in on the issue and offer their unique expertise to solve the problem. "You can bring whatever you want to the hot seat. You talk about it and at the end you usually have some sort of clarity or direction to go in whether it be a resource, something to try, being introduced to a person. That makes a huge difference." Final 10-20 minutes: The group selects the next member to take the hot seat for the following week. With the others' help, the upcoming member reviews his/her goals for the quarter, so that the group can help them solve a problem that gets them closer to that goal. "As entrepreneurs, we can get really distracted. We are trying to make sure that our actions actually align with what we want. That is when you see massive progress." How Do I Know if My Mastermind Is Working? The same way you know if any relationship is working--if you feel mostly positive effects from being involved with it. There are definitely masterminds that are not a good fit for you, that just don't offer what you're looking to get out of it. Or perhaps it's going great for you, but someone else in the mastermind is routinely late to meetings, participates minimally, or contributes negative energy. In either case, a few meetings is usually all it takes to know that something's not working right. "The level of commitment matters. If it doesn’t, people are not going to feel like they are getting value from it, and they will start backing off or will quit. And then it starts to feel icky." Get Jaime's insights for keeping your mastermind on track! Click here to listen to the full interview now.   Commit to Your Own Success It can take one or two tries to find the right group of people for your mastermind. But from my own experience, I can tell you that my entire business changed when I finally locked into the right group. I want you to have the same experience, so if this is something you have been thinking about for a while, commit to yourself: "In 30 days I will have created my own small mastermind of five people." #160: Are You Making These 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes?

Podcast – Ray Edwards

You're smart. You never believed the people who said “there's no money in Social Media”. You thought the people who said Social was all about “pictures of what people had for lunch” or “videos about cats” were missing the point. Yes, those things are popular on Social Media… and it's also true that Social Media is a vital marketing medium that can bring big rewards, monetary and otherwise when done right. Just ask Taylor Swift, Oreo, the folks behind the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge, or even President Barack Obama. Just knowing Social Media Marketing is important, however, is not enough. You must know how to do it right – or at least how to not do it wrong. Today's episode will address what I consider to be the 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes you are most likely making right now… and how to fix them. Tip Of the Week I have not one, but three tips for you this week! Tip #1: Smart Podcast Player First, I'm very excited about the new podcast player we are using on our website. You know, that little “play” button you click to hear audio on the web, such as listening to podcast episode? Up until now we were using a very primitive podcast player. But we just switched the Pat Flynn's Smart Podcast Player. Pat created the player for his own enormously popular podcast. Here's what he says about it: I created this custom player with my team because I wanted a better listening experience for my audience. They deserve the best. After sharing the player with my audience, I received hundreds of requests from other podcasters who wanted to use the player too, and so the Smart Podcast Player was born. You put an immense amount of time and care into creating your podcast; the player you use should reflect that. My team and I have put the same attention and care into building the Smart Podcast Player. I know that you (and your listeners) will love it. Some of the features and benefits: Works with any feed, from any host, anywhere. Looks amazing the design is clean and modern, and you can customize it to match your site perfectly. Lets your listeners explore, discover, and share. The Smart Podcast Player has an interactive library that allows your listeners to explore past episodes in your backlist without interrupting the episode that’s playing. The player also empowers your listeners to search your backlist by tag, download their favorite episodes in MP3 format, and share episodes with their friends. Your library of episodes updates automatically anytime you publish a new episode to your feed. All metadata is available, episode description included. Your listeners can control the speed of the currently playing episode just like they enjoy doing when they use today’s latest podcast mobile apps. It's also got rave reviews from podcasters like John Lee Dumas, Michael Hyatt, and Jaime Tardy of the Eventual Millionaire podcast. And this one is a big deal that I think doesn't get enough emphasis: there's a direct “Subscribe In iTunes” button on the player. The number of subscribers plays a big role in how your show ranks on iTunes. And now your podcast player can encourage those subscriptions, as in the picture you see below (you can actually click that picture and subscribe to this podcast… go ahead… I'll wait…) You can see the entire library of The Ray Edwards Show in the Smart Podcast Player, so you can see it in action, by clicking here. And once you've decided you can't live without the player, check it out at SmartPodcastPlayer.com Tip #2: Twitter Power 3.0 You may know Joel Comm as a New York Times Best-Selling author, and as a top social media influencer. I know him as the guy who convinced me to write and publish my first book, Writing Riches. Much of my success is tied to that book. It was published because of Joel's encouragement and advice. We have been good friends for many years now. I don't know Dave Taylor, but I have benefitted from his work at AskDaveTaylor.com many, many times (just as millions of others have). Joel and Dave just launched their co-authored book, Twitter Power 3.0, and I recommend you click here and buy your copy now. Twitter Power (the previous version) is already the world’s top-selling book on the subject of Twitter. It was endorsed by Tony Robbins (who, by the way, has 2.58 million followers on Twitter). This newly updated super-guide, Twitter Power 3.0 will show smart businesses and entrepreneurs how to use Twitter to massively grow their reach. And this new, improved, cutting-edge book is endorsed by none other than Guy Kawasaki, who says, “This book will give you a big head start toward mastering Twitter from two people who already have.” The book is also endorsed and praised by Robert Scoble, Mari Smith, Chris Brogan, Jay Baer, John Lee Dumas, Michael Stelzner, Kim Garst, and other top social media influencers. Look, you don't need anyone's expensive “Twitter Course” or “coaching” – you can dominate your market on Twitter simply following the advice in this book. Inside Twitter Power 3.0, you'll discover how to: Grow your number of followers PLUS increase your engagement on Twitter Make your content to go viral (you’ll be shocked at what works and what doesn’t!) Measure the Twitter metrics that matter most and fine-tune your strategy to maximize your results In celebration of the launch of Twitter Power 3.0, Joel and Dave are offering some generous bonuses when you order your copy of the book today. The bonuses you get include a brand new eBook called Social Poetry 2 (which features the top marketers/influencers online… even I make a brief appearance in the book). So, to get more followers and influence on Twitter, start by ordering your copy of Twitter Power 3.0. And, of course, claim all the free bonuses that come with your purchase. I don't make a single penny for recommending this book to you. The links in this post are not affiliate links. I just happen to think this is an excellent book, and I think you need to read it (if you want to be successful with Twitter). Tip #3: Social Media Marketing World 2015 Session Recordings Was traveling to San Diego for Social Media Marketing World 2015 just not an option for you this year? If so, you missed the marketing event of the year. I had the privilege of leading one of the tracks at the event, and I soaked up a ton of great knowledge from the other sessions. Below is a picture of me with my personal Mastermind Group, the Green Room Mastermind. In the photo is Pat Flynn, Cliff Ravenscraft, Mike Stelzner, Mark Mason, and Leslie Samuel. This is the first time we have all been in the same physical space at one time! (L-R) Mark Mason, Mike Stelzner, Pat Flynn, Cliff Ravenscraft, Leslie Samuel I know, I know, you're feeling left out. What if you could catch ALL the conference sessions at your convenience without any travel expenses or the need to replicate yourself? The good news is now you can! All you need is the Virtual Ticket to Social Media Marketing World 2015! For a fraction of the cost of a regular ticket, you’ll get full access to the recording of EVERY session. There's no risk, either – you can try the first two days once the recordings are posted and still cancel for a full refund if you decide it's not for you! Spiritual Foundations Satan Is No Longer Allowed To Accuse You Of Anything Recently a friend expressed worry that his troubles were because of Satan. My friend said to me, “I just know this problem is happening because Satan is the ‘accuser of the brethren', making sure God is aware of my every sin.” He was referring to a passage from Revelation 12:10: “Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, “Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down.” (NKJV) Many people believe that this is still going on, and that the “casting down” comes at the end of time. But that is not true. A careful reading of Revelation in the context of the rest of the New Testament shows that this “casting down” of the “accuser of the brothers” has already happened. “Who shall bring a charge against God’s elect? It is God who justifies.” Romans 8:33 In book of Job, Satan is in God's presence and us griping about Job (see Job 1:6-12). Now here's the question I have about this scene: what the heck is Satan doing at God's throne? That's God's most holy place. How can Satan be allowed there? It's pretty simple: we gave him our pass to the throne room of heaven. Adam bowed to the will of Satan in the Garden of Eden in Genesis 3, and that means's Satan was able to take Adam's place and could come before God. Satan became “the accuser of the brothers” – he did nothing but bend God's ear with lies about us. Then something amazing happened. The “last Adam”, Jesus Christ, gave his own blood and cleansed the things of Heaven (Hebrews 9:22-24). The work Jesus did, which he called “finished”, redeemed the place where Satan stood before God. There's no place in heaven for Satan. He cannot come before God and accuse you or me. Those days are over. The next bit of good news is who is in God's presence today – and that would be JEsus. He is there on our behalf (Hebrews 9:24). And so now who can condemn or accuse us? “Who is he who condemns? It is Christ who died, and furthermore is also risen, who is even at the right hand of God, who also makes intercession for us.” Romans 8:34 Listen, as I read the book of Job I see it contains many theological knots. I can't untie half of them. I do know that much of it is bad theology, presented as just that. God himself says that Job's friends spoke wrongly about Him, invalidating much of the text as theology. Job wanted someone to plead on his behalf. (Job 9:33) We actually have what Job desired – we have Jesus as our representative, and he is interceding for us (1 Timothy 2:5). So… what does Satan do now? The only thing he can do: he comes to you and me, here on earth, and accuses us through our conscience. His only weapon is lies. His weapon is only effective if we believe the lies. He has no power. (Colossians 2:15) So if you find yourself thinking that God's will is for you to be sick, or hurting, or hungry… or that God is punishing you for your sins… don't buy into that garbage! Don't listen to Satan's lies. God justifies you, and nobody, not even the devil himself, has the power to come before God and accuse you. You, just like Jesus, have free and total access to God's throne of grace to “obtain mercy and find grace to help in time of need”. (Hebrews 4:16) Revel in your righteousness, and know that all your sin-debt has been paid, you are free, and there's no one left to accuse you. Imagine yourself in the place of the woman caught in the act of adultery. Here accusers dragged her to Jesus, accusing her. He turned the accusers away and… When Jesus had raised Himself up and saw no one but the woman, He said to her, “Woman, where are those accusers of yours? Has no one condemned you?” She said, “No one, Lord.” And Jesus said to her, “Neither do I condemn you; go and sin no more.” John 8:10-11 That's what he's saying to you and me today: “Neither do I condemn you.” Feature Presentation: Are You Making These 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes? Social Marketing is more important now than ever. If you don't believe that, or don't understand why its true, hasten thyself over to Social Media Examiner and get the  Sixth Annual Social Media Marketing Industry Report. It is 50 pages, and over 80 charts worth of data from 2,800 organized into an important and comprehensive report. It will open your eyes to just how important Social Media Marketing is to you and your business. Based on that report, Mike Stelzner gave a fantastic keynote at Social Media Marketing World 2015, where he outlined the 8 major trends all marketers must know about in 2015. After spending two and a half days at the conference last week, attending sessions, taking notes like a madman, listening to the podcasts and reading several books by presenters at the conference, plus reading a pile of articles on Social Media Examiner, I decided to create this Social Media-focused show. So here are the 5 Social Media Marketing Mistakes you are most likely making… and how to fix them. Pronto. Social Media Marketing Mistake #1 Failure to have a Strategic Social Media Marketing System. “Strategic” means: the identification of long-term or overall aims and interests and the means of achieving them. “System” means: a set of principles or procedures according to which something is done; an organized scheme or method. Thus, a Strategic Social Media Marketing System is: A set of principles and procedures of using Social Media with the overall aim of increasing the profitability of the enterprise. Do you have such a system? Is it written down? Does the document clearly define the intent of the system? Does it define, step-by-step, how to activities are to be conducted to achieve the Strategic Objective? Could anyone on your staff or team execute the instructions based solely on the written procedure? If not, you don't have a system. How To Fix Mistake #1: Develop a written document that spells out the principles and procedures of using Social Media with the overall aim of increasing the profitability of the enterprise. Social Media Marketing Mistake #2 Failure to have a consistent branding presence across Social Media Platforms. Your images, logos, and profile pages look different across all the different services, including your own blog. Your logo, colors, and design scheme are just a hodgepodge of what you used at the time you signed up for any given network. How To Fix Mistake #2: Get a professional logo design and headshot made, if you don't already have them. Know what your design color palette is and use it. Then, change your images, logos, and profile pages should look alike across all the different services, including your own blog. Your logo, colors, and design scheme should always match. And if you have a personal brand, use the same headshot on all the services… and make sure it looks like you! Social Media Marketing Mistake #3 Failure to understand the different Social Media services. The rules – both written and unwritten – differ from service to service. the proper way to be a valued member of each community is to understand its culture and behave accordingly. Proper behavior looks different on LinkedIn than on Google+ or Facebook, and Facebook profile etiquette is different from the etiquette for Facebook pages. And Twitter is different from all the rest. Unfortunately, many (most) marketers have never taken the time to really learn the culture of the networks they are part of. These same marketers then don't understand why their “social” marketing “doesn't work.” Here's a clue: If everywhere you go, you smell body odor, you might be the one who needs a shower. How To Fix Mistake #3: Study the most popular users of each service. Watch their behavior and interaction. Read a guide on the networks you want to be part of. You can find definitive guides and up-to-the-minute tips at Social Media Examiner for free. One powerful and important insight: spend most of your time on Social Networks being social. Interact. Respond. And don't make the mistake of being self-promotional all the time. My rule of thumb is to try to be 90% sharing and helpful, and to use only 10% of my Social Media activity to directly promote. Now go out on the playground… and play nice! Social Media Marketing Mistake #4 Failure to have a presence on the most important Social Media sites. Many marketers sign up for ever Social Media network, don't dig deep into any of them, and so have a lackluster presence everywhere. Yuck. Don't  do this. It just makes you appear to be one of the mediocre masses. You shouldn't – and can't – have a presence on all Social Media networks. How To Fix Mistake #4: I know I will get arguments on this, but in my opinion, here are the networks you should focus on, in the order of priority, from most important to least (but I think they are all important). Facebook Twitter LinkedIn Instagram Pinterest Google+ As I said, I know some will want to argue with be about this list, but I think it's right on target. Feel free to differ with me in the comments… or on Social Media!   Social Media Marketing Mistake #5 Failure to use strong visual content in your Social Media Marketing. Most Social Media Marketers are focused on words. As a copywriter, I understand. But copywriting and writing in general isn't really about the medium – it's about the message. If you're focused only on the text, you're missing out on huge momentum and potential profit. More and more, people are consuming visual content. How To Fix Mistake #5: Get visual – especially video-visual! One of the hottest trends, according to the data from the Social Media Marketing Industry Report (and Mike Stelzner's keynote), is video. In particular, native video. Meaning video that is posted and hosted on the network distributing it. The networks seem to be giving preference to video that is uploaded via their own network interface. So use Facebook to upload your video to Facebook, instead of uploading it to YouTube and linking to it on Facebook. The same is true of other networks as well. And for goodness sakes, don't forget pictures and those “quote memes” that seem so popular. You can make your own using Canva or Wordswag. And finally, there are infographics. If you want to capture complex ideas in a simple way people love, use infographics. There are a lot of great tools to make them yourself, among them Canva, PikToChart,  and Visual.ly. For most of us, including yours truly, having strict deadlines can be very helpful in achieving our goals… And for today’s guest, Jaime Tardy, a 9-month deadline put her quickly into action to become financially free. She became pregnant and had a limited amount of time to pull her financial life together before welcoming her new baby. And she did it! At the same time she managed to quit her 6-figure full-time job with an expense account with confidence! Today Jaime owns her own business and has transformed her lifestyle of working 24/7 to just 30 hours a week… Jaime also writes about her experience in her new book The Eventual Millionaire.  In it she also chronicles what she’s learned from over 120 millionaires interviewed on her podcast with the same title The Eventual Millionaire. They discuss the tricks that worked in building their business (and what they wish they had done differently!). In addition to being an author and a blogger, she is also a successful business coach working with entrepreneurs who want to transform their business and personal lives while building their net worth. Three takeaways from our interview: -- What Jaime thinks about the education system in the US and why she chose an entrepreneurial school for her kids -- How she managed to pull her financial life together in less than a year -- The benefit of creating her own board of advisors… and how we can do the same, too!

In this podcast, you'll get a peek into the habits, thoughts, and actions of a self-made millionaire as I talk with Jaime Tardy whose website, podcast and book all titled Eventual Millionaire have been guiding and inspiring entrepreneurs for years. She shares insights into what makes them tick and how you can position yourself into millionaire status.   What Are Some Common Habits of a Millionaire? After interviewing over 200 millionaires Jaime says there are three common habits among them. Surprisingly, none of them have anything to do with daily routine such as diet or exercise however, she does find that they rarely watch much TV or movies - although, I am definitely the exception to the rule :) Instead, she has found common themes in their approach to business (and life): No Excuses Approach - To be prosperous you can't let your excuses stand in your way. We all have our reasons not to do something (no money, no time, etc.) but these are solvable. The millionaire gets it done despite their reasons or excuses. Continuous Forward Motion - Successful people aren't afraid to make a move - even if it's the wrong move. A lot of us are afraid to fail and let that hold us back. Some millionaires have had success right away but many fail 3 or 4 times before reaching success. Well, Jaime didn't actually get to divulge the third habit but you can read about it on her site. Fearing the Tall Poppy Syndrome It happens. When one person does really well people tend to wind up feeling bad about themselves. The typical reaction is resentment and oftentimes colleagues or peers will attack, criticize, or “cut down” the tall poppy among them. Don't let the fear of the tall poppy syndrome stop you. Succeed anyway. Jaime believes people with integrity should be the ones with money and influence as they're the ones who can do the most good with it. Jaime finds self-made millionaires are appreciative and humble. The stereotype is that the wealthy are also very greedy. However, the vast majority she talks to are some of the most giving and generous people she knows. Live the Life You Want Jaime learned the lesson the hard way with her own career. At a very early age she had a six-figure corporate career, expense account, big house and an expensive car. Sounds awesome! But she hated her job and dreaded Sunday nights because they marked the end of a weekend and start of a new work week. In time she changed all that but admits it can be difficult when you don't have much cushion in your budget. She implores us to have the life we want and then consider money. “I made one decision in my life based on money. And I swore I would never do it again.” ~ Brad Pitt as Billy Beane in Moneyball Never make decisions based on money alone. I know what you're thinking: “Sure, it's easy to turn down money when you already have it.” As an agency owner you have responsibilities and pressures like payroll and other fixed costs. You might be tempted to take on some of the wrong clients just to pay the bills. I strongly caution you against this. Bad clients may pay you but the long-term expense of having them will far exceed the short-term fix they give you in your cash flow. Bad clients drain your time, your resources, and your energy. No one can run a successful business in that state. Calculate the Opportunity Cost Instead of taking on the wrong clients, take time to determine the opportunity cost. I looked at my own opportunity cost in January. By eliminating the wrong clients, I brought in an additional $35,000 in revenue. Here's the breakdown: With my screening process, I turned down 20 “wrong clients” for a $1,000 program. At a 75% close rate, I could have closed 15 of them and made $15,000. I would have spent one hour with each of those 20, but I utilized those 20 hours differently. By reallocating those 20 hours I worked on a program that made $50,000. The difference in how I spent my time brought in an incremental $35,000! How Highly Successful People Face Challenges Demands On Your Time:  Many business owners get stuck in the daily operations of the business - dealing with challenges and putting out fires. And, in many cases, the owner is also the salesperson. So if their time is focused on operations, sales tend to suffer. Jaime's advice? Hire a salesperson - or if sales is your passion, hire someone to handle the fires! Measuring Your Monetary Goals:   Most CEO's set business goals but often get too busy working the business to check the numbers and measure against the goals. Jaime advises to set monthly goals and then break them down into daily tasks. For example: Goal: $500,000 annual revenue = $42,000 monthly revenue. Take $42,000 divided by the average sale = the number of clients you need to close each month. If you know your close rate, you'll even be able to determine the number of prospects needed to get you to your goal. Then, go do it! Staying Focused:  Running a business is hard and there are a lot of demands on your time and energy. To overcome demands that distract you from focusing on your business growth, I tell my clients to make 90-day goals and figure out which tasks will get them there. Then, make a list of tasks that will not get them there and commit to making those the secondary priority. These tasks (like needlessly checking and replying to email) make you feel good in the short term but don't get you anywhere in the long term. “F.O.C.U.S. means Finish One Commitment Until Success” ~ John Lee Dumas of Entrepreneur On Fire You're an entrepreneur which means you're inspired and motivated. It's easier said than done, but try to harness your idea overload and FOCUS on one great idea at a time. It doesn't mean you can't pull the trigger on that great idea you just had… only that you should put it on the back burner until you succeed at what you've already started. Entrepreneurial-minded and highly energetic, Jaime Tardy always wanted to be wealthy. However, she didn't know how to get there. She was stuck in a 9-to-5 job that she did not hate and that paid her really well, yet she wasn't satisfied. She had to figure a few things out, like what the path might look like to her. She began attending networking events. Then she started having conversations with actual millionaires. She developed a plan and stuck to it. Now this Eventual Millionaire author has a lot to share with us about how to become one of the successful entrepreneurs of the world and create lots of cashflow doing it. Her story isn't like any you've heard, but there is one thing you will have heard time and time again here on the Cash Flow Diary podcast. Jaime had to change her mindset before she could change her life. Learning to exercise her genius to get her to her goals was imperative. Action steps were absolutely necessary. She calls it finding her "inner why." Then she pushed to live life to the fullest. She paid off tens of thousands of dollars in debt in less than two years, and found her path. She found mentors and read lots of books to help her in her shift. She left corporate America to pursue entrepreneurialism and didn't look back. Jaime learned that external motivation helps, but she also had to find the internal motivation to keep moving forward. The path wasn't always easy. Sometimes there were big bumps, but she kept going even through her fears. Learn how Jaime got over the challenges in her life and beyond her fears to achieve what she set out to do. Discover how she decided to do what she does and what that is anyway! You can follow Jaime's path and find more joy. Learn more.

Top 11 Takeaways From Podcast Movement 2014   Podcast Movement 2014 was held in Dallas, Texas August 16th & 17th. For an inaugural event, PM14 was well run and full of great information. The guys did an amazing job putting it together.   Earlier this year, Dan Franks reached out to me and asked if I would present a session at PM14. I was truly honored. My session on the power of storytelling went over very well. Many people came to the stage after my session to tell me how useful they found the information. I really appreciated the feedback.   I am already looking forward to Podcast Movement 2015 in Fort Worth, Texas.   My notebook filled with great notes from PM14. On this episode, I want to share with you my 11 top takeaways from the event. I hope these spark a little something in your to move your podcast forward and transform your content.   1. Have a plan to make money. This came from Chris Brogan's Keynote “Podcasting As A Business Driver”. If you want to support your habit/hobby, have a plan to generate income. This could be from your product, service or other income stream. Figure out how to cover your cost at a minimum.   2. Copy = Pale Imitation = Ignored. Srinivas Rao offered this insight in his Keynote “Genuine Curiosity – The Fuel Behind The Fire”. Chris Brogan said, “No one ever won a race looking sideways.” Be brave and have the courage to be unique. Tell some great stories.   3. What is your brand personality? Who are you really and who do your clients need you to be? Kristin Thompson asked these questions during her session “Rock Your Talk & Profit Big … Beyond The Podcast”. Define your brand personality. Then, thread it through everything you do.   4. Don't use white in your logo. This was mentioned during “Top Podcasters Share Three Success Secrets For Podcasting”. It was a panel discussion with Michael Stelzner, Cliff Ravenscraft, and Chris Brogan. If you want it to stand out in iTunes store, get rid of the white. Make your logo pop.   5. Involve others. During his session “10 Ways to Take Your Podcast From Average To Amazing”, Daniel J. Lewis suggested you use interviews, conversations, and shared presentations to get others involved with your show. Empower your audience to share your content. Delegate others to help you achieve tasks.   6. #1 goal of podcast marketing is opt-in. Tim Paige mentioned this in his session “The Top 7 Ways To Grow Your Podcast And Turn Listeners Into Leads”. We've heard it many times that the money is in the list. Use your podcast to grow your list every opportunity that you get.   7. Think of your avatar in the car or excercising. What can you provide to make the experience better? This was a great piece of advice from Jaime Tardy during her Keynote “The Future Of Podcasting”. If you want to connect and engage with your audience, put yourself in their shoes.   8. Learn what the knobs do. To learn your equipment and what it does, press record and narrate your actions as you turn knobs. Hear how it sounds. This was a tip offered by Dave Jackson in his session “The Art Of Editing Audio – Finding The Diamond In The Rough”. What better way to figure out what all of those knobs do other than tinkering with it.   9. Ask your tribe questions about what they struggle with. Jessica Kupferman's session was titled “Your Commmunity Of Kindred Spirits: Why, How and When To Build One”. She offered this tidbit while helping us discover the power and connection of a community.   10. Give your guests resources to promote your show after they are on. This came during a panel discussion called “Promote Your Podcast The Right (And Unique) Way”. If you want your guests to promote your show after they appear, make it easy for them. Give them graphics, quotes or audio clips they can use to help spread the word.   11. Comfort and awesome usually do not overlap. I loved this line. It was another from Chris Brogan during his Keynote “Podcasting As A Business Driver”. Be brave. Try something new. Be unique. Have the courage to step out and tell personal stories that cannot be copied. That's when you'll get noticed. Don't be comforable. Be awesome.     I'd love to help you with your podcast. E-mail any questions or comments you might have to Coach@PodcastTalentCoach.com.   You can also find other tools including worksheets, a workbook and videos to help you create great content at www.PodcastTalentCoach.com.     Let's turn your information into engaging entertainment.

An EU ruling has ordered that people should have the right to be forgotten and have unwanted search listings about them which are deemed to be irrelevant or outdated to be removed from the SERPs. This opens a can of worms because it raises lots of concerns about fraudulent requests, freedom of information, the logistics of how Google will decide which requests to accept or reject and some other issues too, this is a big story will be covered by mainstream media so I'm sure you'll be seeing more on this as things develop. Google rolled out their Panda 4.0 update last week, so there has been another shake up in the SERPs. Rumour has it that this is the update that Matt Cutts described as being softer and gentler and will help small businesses to still be able to compete in Google's organic results. Bing ads have updated their performance trends graph to give an instant snapshot of how your ads a performing over different time periods. In Facebook news, The new Facebook Pages redesign is rolling out more widely now, I logged into my fan page the other day and I liked what I saw. Their new one column layout is much easier to look at in my opinion. They have been rolling this out slowly this last month but all pages will start to be eligible for this new page layout soon. Facebook have also announced that automated status updates or statuses coming from 3rd party apps will get less visibility in the news feed. They say that tests have shown these types of post get less engagement and they will be responding by giving them less weight in the news feed. Good news for restaurant owners, if you have a restaurant and facebook fan page, you can now upload a pdf of your menu and it will show as a tab on your facebook page. In Facebook ads news, premium video ads have now gone international, as I mentioned in previous episodes these were being rolled out in the USA but they will now start be available in the UK, Canada, Australia, Brazil, France, Germany and Japan. However Facebook are still being selective over who can use these ads, they don't want this new ad type to be ruined by poor quality ads so this will only be available to a limited number of advertisers. Pinterest have announced that business insights are coming so that brands can gauge which of their pins and boards are getting the most engagements, they will initially be providing this information by opening up it's api so that 3rd party social media analytics tools will be able to tap and report back that data. Pinterest have also announced their board widget for websites, you can paste the board into your website and people can see your latest pins and follow your boards all from your website. Yahoo have announced they will be soon to release their own video sharing platform set to try and compete with YouTube, a big task indeed, but one carrot they will be using to lure content creators over to their platform will be far great revenue sharing, we'll see what happens. Mozilla firefox may soon be rolling out sponsored content in the near future, suggesting web pages or content that may be of interest based on a person's browsing history. For us advertisers this may be a nice new shiny place to run ads, keep an eye out for that. JV zoo have been very busy releasing lots of new updates including split tests for different variations of your sales pages, custom HTML can now be added to receipt pages and prefilled order forms to make the checkout process go quicker. If someone has bought a product from JVzoo previously, they will be cookied then the next time they buy something their details will auto populate. They also worked out a deal with paypal so that subscriptions can last longer and the order value can increase. There used to be a limit of 3 years or $3,600 whichever came first but that limitation has now been increased to 10 years or $10,000 whichever comes first. Infusionsoft have announced some new updates including better website analytics, increased email sending speeds, a faster, speedier experience within the infusionsoft back office and all aspects of infusionsoft will now work on google chrome. they also have released 3 new widgets inside the infusionsoft back office. The contacts, email and sales widgets will give you a quick snapshot of your accounts most recent activity. Contest domination have released a brand new page template which allows for 2 step opt-in boxes even on a mobile device, any contest domination users may want to go check that straight away. On the subject of contest domination, Travis Ketchum the founder of contest domination will be appearing on the online marketing show in the near future. Stay tuned. Leadpages have announced a new membership level, the enterprise membership level which includes live phone support and leadpages coaching with their in-house trainers. The chat widget Zopim has been acquired by zendesk, apparently there won't be many changes in the coming months except for improved zopim/zendesk integration but there may be more changes in the future. The king of the product launch Jeff Walker has recently released his new book simply titled Launch: An internet millionaires secret formula to sell almost anything online, build a business you love, and live the life of your dreams. His products are usually high ticket so this a chance to learn his product launch secrets for the price of a book. In events... Hubspot are hosting a global event called Inbound marketing week. This week, I'm sharing the top 40 podcasts I listen to, with a little explanation of why you might want to check them out. I will also identify the podcasts I absolutely do not miss, ever. And I'll share the 3 very popular podcasts I instantly did NOT like. Plus, here are some additional reasons to keep listening… How to get Jeff Walker's new book, Launch, for free! John Lee Dumas started his Entrepreneur on Fire podcast in June of 2012 (about a year ago). Fast forward and John now has a podcast that is in the top 5 of business podcasts in iTunes. He is making 18,000 a month, reaching HUNDRED of THOUSANDS of people each month in over 145 countries. He did it using the organizational tools and courage he learned in the Armed forces (he served 13 months in Iraq) and with passion that is infectious. He was consuming a large about of podcasts in the car, but he needed more content. What did he do? He filled his own void by creating the podcast he wanted to listen to. Your Podcasts Downloads Stats All In One Place - Stitcher News [3:00] Stitcher announced that they will "pinging" your media host. In a memo that was sent out they outlined the changes as follows: You should begin to see a change in your stats via your hosting provider dashboard when our iOS update is live in the App Store within the next few days. The magnitude of the change will vary based on the specific show but should be noticeable immediately via your hosting provider’s metrics dashboard. We are also updating the Stitcher Partner Portal to reflect this change. We will keep you posted on timing but anticipate seeing this new Download number included in you Stitcher metrics within the next few weeks. The old Downloads stat, which was measuring actual listens, will still be in the partner portal but relabeled “Listens” This means that we no longer have to login to (for example) Libsyn.com or Blubrry.com (two of the top media hosting companies) and then later also check into Stitcher. This will make is easier to quote numbers to potential sponsors. Congratulations Marcus Couch [7:21] If you are a regular listener of the School of Podcasting then you know Marcus Couch and I go way back to the early days of Podcasting with companies like Mevio, Juice Software, and iRiver recorders. Marcus is an SEO expert and a Wordpress Guru. He wanted to get more traction in the Wordpress World. His goal was to get on to the dashboard of every Wordpress user and this month he landed there. How? By doing what Marcus preaches - creating good content. He has his music show the Scene Zine, and recently became a co-host of Wordpress Plugins A to Z (one of my favorite podcasts). You an now read him on the official Wordpress Tavern blog. Congrats to Marcus. John Dumas of the Entrepreneur on Fire Podcast - Light Up the Sky! [9:02] John Dumas is the passionate podcaster behind the microphone on Entrepreneur On Fire. He is also the author of the Book Podcast Launch, and is now rolling out an inner circle mastermind group call Fire Nation Elite. In today's interview you will get inside the mind of John and see his commitment to his audience. You will see where his drive is to inspire his audience to take action. You will hear how he is building his audience through dedication, commitment, and a determination to build his audience (called "The Fire Nation") one person at a time. John shares what lessons he learned during his 13 months in IRAQ. "It's better to make a good decision now then make a great decision later." John spent $3,000 to hire a personal mentor (Jaime Tardy) and says if you don't have that much to invest in your podcast start up that you could check out master mind or online groups (I'm a big fan of some of the groups on Google+, LinkedIn). A One on one coach can be helpful because of the personalized approach. Mastermind groups (which you might find at meetup.com) may get you in contact with other people and become a networking opportunity. [23:55]Entrepreneur on Fire had 267,000 unique downloads in May of 2013 and June should go over 300,000. [25:25] My favorite part of the interview is when John goes to tell me some new news from Apple. He doesn't say, "This is something my audience doesn't even know yet." He doesn't say "This is something the fire nation isn't aware of." He says "I haven't even told fire nation," and to me it shows how John thinks of his audience as ONE person. John talks about the importance of having an "avatar" of your audience (picture your audience member), and then talk to that person. John asks the same questions to every guest on his show. This accomplishes two things. You know what's coming, and you never know what you're going to get (because each guest answers them differently). John has got some great guests like Seth Godin, Tim Ferriss on his show. How? He caught them when they had books available and were on publicity tours. [35:40]Industry Standard Podcast CPM Sponsors came to John when was seen in the top rankings of iTunes. According to John the industry standard is: $18 cpm (per thousand downloads) for a 15 second preroll at the beginning of your podcast. $25 cpm for a 60 second spot in the middle of your podcast. John in the second quarter of 2013 was getting 8,000 downloads per episode. This calculates to $300 per episode - per sponsor. John had two sponsors per show. This means he was making $600 per episode. John does 30 episodes a month, so he made $18,000 a month. His sponsors are signing up for the third quarter (which shows that podcast sponsorship works). Jaime Tardy is the founder of the Eventual Millionaire. She has paid off over $70,000 worth of debt, left her high-paying project management job, started her own coaching business, and has interviewed over 90 millionaires for her weekly web-show. Things we talk about in this episode: What odd jobs like street sweeper and door-to-door vacuum sales taught her. Why she made the decision in college to transition from Art to IT. Why her entrepreneurial influences growing up didn't actually keep her from getting a regular job after college. How she paid off $70,000 in debt (including convincing her husband to sell back their two-month old car.) Why she gave up a well paying, traveling project management job to spend more time with her kids. What three habits most of the 90+ millionaires she has interviewed have in common.

Build a $1,000,000 Business Podcasting With John Lee Dumas, Founder of Entrepreneur On Fire. John Lee Dumas, Shares His Insight On His Army Career, His Frustration as an Employee, Launching a Business and His Love, Podcasting. Hear the complete interview on The Sales Podcast ( https://www.thesaleswhisperer.com/podcast ) with Wes Schaeffer, The Sales Whisperer® ( https://www.thesaleswhisperer.com/ ). Lots of room to grow in the podcasting arena. Get started. Make it your own. Bring your own personality. The military (Army) taught him discipline. “We get more done before 8 am than most people do all day.” That has served him well in his business career. The stage keeps getting bigger and the spotlight gets brighter. “Mo Money, Mo Problems” from Notorious B.I.G. Sept 22, 2012, was his first podcast. Now he gets downloaded over 500,000 times per month. iTunes put him on their homepage for 14 days when he got to his 300th episode! Featured in Time Magazine last Friday and Inc Magazine. Doing a daily podcast was his “Ah, Ha moment.” He was in real estate driving around San Diego and was running out of podcasts to listen to so he decided to interview entrepreneurs and offer those interviews on a daily basis. Schedule Once app ( http://www.scheduleonce.com/ ) – syncs with every calendar. Hit his tipping point about 3-4 months ago and now he gets plenty of good people to interview. He's booked into December (2+ months.) He started with a mentor – Jaime Tardy, Eventual Millionaire ( http://eventualmillionaire.com/jaimetardy/ ). Then he joined a mastermind to interact and engage with other entrepreneurs. He joined Cliff Ravenscraft's program for a year. A great place to start is “ Podcast Launch, ( http://amzn.to/1a0XZH5 ) ” John's book he wrote and is on Amazon for just $5 – “From Step 1 to Done.” Releasing PodcastersParadise.com ( http://www.entrepreneuronfire.com/podcastersparadise ). The transition was not easy or immediate but he did have a nest egg when he left real estate to launch Entrepreneur on Fire. He created a ton of professional content and for the first 6 months, there was not a lot of income. He was focused on building the audience. Sponsors began coming in. He then created a mastermind to begin to monetize his efforts. John had no real timeline. He just focused on creating good content and building his audience. Q4/2013 is shaping up to be his best quarter ever with projections of $30,000 per month in sponsorship income alone. Launched with 40 interviews “in the bank.” Batches his activities. “Email is put on the back burner on Monday's.” F.O.C.U.S. – Follow One Course Until Success Parting words of wisdom. “Keep listening to Wes…and just start. Begin to master your craft, even if it's just 30 minutes a day to help you become that skilled entrepreneur.” If you liked this episode, be sure to let John ( https://twitter.com/johnleedumas ) and me ( https://twitter.com/saleswhisperer ) know on Twitter .
