GDP Script/ Top Stories for June 28th Publish Date:  June 28th            From the Ingles Studio Welcome to the Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Today is Friday, June 28th and Happy 49th Birthday to actor Toby Maguire. ***06.28.24 – BIRTHDAY – TOBEY MACGUIRE*** I'm Bruce Jenkins and here are your top stories presented by Gwinnett KIA Mall of Georgia. Gwinnett police: People in moving van were not trafficking victims Ousted Gwinnett School Board Member Criticizes Runoff System Biden, Trump swap barbs in no-holds barred debate All of this and more is coming up on the Gwinnett Daily Post podcast, and if you are looking for community news, we encourage you to listen daily and subscribe! Break 1: MOG   STORY 1: Gwinnett police: People in moving van were not trafficking victims A viral video on social media this week showed people inside a Budget Rental moving van, sparking concerns of human trafficking as the original poster claimed they were tied up. The incident occurred on Interstate 85 north from midtown Atlanta until Gwinnett police intervened. However, Gwinnett County Police Sergeant Collin Flynn clarified that the individuals were not trafficking victims but were two families relocating with their belongings. They were healthy and not in distress, heading from Alabama to Maryland for new job opportunities. Despite no evidence of trafficking, police cited the driver for Georgia's seat belt law violation as the occupants were riding in the van without seat belts. The group was safely dropped off to find an alternate means to continue their journey to Maryland. STORY 2: Ousted Gwinnett School Board Member Criticizes Runoff System Karen Watkins, Vice Chairman of the Gwinnett County school board, has decided not to seek a recount after narrowly losing to Rachel Stone in last week's runoff election. Stone won by 17 votes, securing less than a 0.5% margin over Watkins. Although Watkins could have requested a recount under state law, she opted not to, criticizing Georgia's runoff election system instead. Watkins highlighted concerns that requiring candidates to surpass 50% of the vote in a runoff can suppress voter turnout and dilute the impact of voters. In the primary election, Watkins led with 41.8% of the vote, leading to the runoff with Stone who garnered 30.6%. The runoff saw significantly lower turnout compared to the primary, with only 3,719 votes cast. Watkins' campaign labeled the runoff system as voter suppression, emphasizing its costliness and potential to diminish voter participation. STORY 3: Biden, Trump swap barbs in no-holds barred debate In Atlanta, a 90-minute presidential debate between Joe Biden and Donald Trump, moderated by CNN with no live audience, aimed for civility with microphones turned off when not speaking. Despite this, both candidates traded accusations, blaming each other for inflation and trading personal attacks. Trump faced legal challenges, including indictments in Georgia and a recent New York conviction. He attributed these to Biden targeting him politically. Biden criticized Trump's inaction during the Capitol riot and highlighted Trump's legal troubles and personal scandals. Both called for the other's imprisonment, Trump for legal issues and Biden for immigration policies.   We have opportunities for sponsors to get great engagement on these shows. Call 770.874.3200 for more info. We'll be right back.   Break 2: TOM WAGES   STORY 4: Lawrenceville names new dog park for former Police K-9 Lawrenceville has dedicated HYRO Park in memory of K9 Officer Hyro, who served the police department from 2016 until his passing in July 2023. The 0.41-acre urban dog park, set to open on August 9, honors Hyro's service in law enforcement, where he contributed to 233 missions, resulting in 87 arrests and the seizure of significant quantities of drugs. The park, under construction next to Lawrenceville Lawn, aims to unite the community through dog-friendly activities. City officials, including Hyro's handler Officer Sean O'Brien, unveiled a plaque during the dedication ceremony, emphasizing Hyro's legacy of "Love Loyalty Obedience." "They're seen as these valorized K-9 cop heroes, and we don't focus so much on the real violence that they do," says Wasilczuk. "Videos like this really highlight the problems," Wasilczuk explains that the use of police dogs in apprehension is part of a widespread pattern of racialized violence by police that dates back to slavery.

This On The Move spotlights the Dream Ride Experience, one of the largest automotive events in the northeast and one that focuses on giving Special Olympics participants the ride of their lives. Before diving in, hosts Matt Avery and John Kraman get up to speed with all that’s new in the car world, including the running of the 104th Indy 500. The guys talk about the NBC television coverage and how Sage Karam, sponsored by Mecum Auctions, will be competing in the No. 24 car. With a new Mecum Magazine available on digital newsstands, Matt and John divulge what they penned in their respective columns. John opens the conversation with his look at the link between the iconic Buick GSX and the rock band The Doors. Then, Matt jumps into the deep end on the "Tecnomar for Lamborghini 63," a limited-edition luxury yacht the auto brand is creating. The craft features twin V-12 engines, carbon fiber design elements and a price tag in the millions. The guys swing to the latest with Ford and how the company is doing away with the Fusion sedan as well as the Shelby GT350, and then its charging to a look at Cadillac’s debut of the LYRIQ, its first all-electric vehicle. Matt and John love the sophisticated styling but aren’t sure the planned 300 miles of range will be competitive when, and if, the stunner comes to market. Next, Matt and John are joined by two special guests from the Dream Ride Experience: former Miss Connecticut USA 2018 and Relationship Manager for the Hometown Foundation Jamie Hughes and the Dream Show Lead Judge and President and CEO of Motorcars Inc. Dean Cusano. The Dream Ride experience, to be held August 21-23 at the Farmington Polo Club in Farming, Connecticut, is celebrating its 20th anniversary and is the signature fundraising event of The Hometown Foundation, Inc. The weekend includes the Dream Cruise, a police-escorted journey on Saturday where drivers pair up with Dream Riders in their classic/exotic vehicles for a 12-mile cruise, as well as the Dream Show, which features cars and motorcycles and the Dream Ride, a Sunday motorcycle tour through the Farmington, Connecticut, countryside. All of the activities celebrate the achievements of the Dream Riders, Special Olympics athletes and individuals with intellectual or developmental disabilities from more than 25 different states and three countries. The experience honors these men, women and children living with intellectual disabilities in our communities. This weekend event and year-round movement highlights their determination and willingness to persevere, overcome challenges and shatter stereotypes. The Dream Ride Experience advocates for inclusion and building friendships amongst not only the Dream Riders, but also with the participants and attendees. The event also features a Pet Adoption Center, delicious food, live entertainment and music, a Police K-9 Challenge, a Firefighters Chili Cook-Off, vendors, raffles and a family fun zone. In 2019, The Dream Ride Experience raised a record-breaking $2.4 million dollars, and, to date, more than $12.4 million has been donated to The Hometown Foundation. This year, the show field will include six special vehicles from the personal collection of Dana Mecum. They include a Ford Roadster used in Hollywood movies including "Loving You" featuring Elvis Presley, a 1932 Ford McMullen Roadster, a 1933 Ford "Elgin" race car, a 1957 Chevrolet Corvette, a 1969 Shelby GT500 Convertible and a custom 2011 Chevrolet Camaro.

Jason Johnson has a passion for Police K-9’s and he has dedicated his life to working with them, as well as training and taking care of them. Jason believes that Police K-9’s perform selflessly for the departments and agencies they work for, and in return, they are not offered that same respect, in their retirement years, by those they served. It is Jason’s goal to ensure he educates the public on the costs and responsibilities of adopting a retired hero and that every Police K-9 in the United States has their medical, food and end of duty costs taken care of for them so they may live the healthy and happy retirement that they deserve. Currently, Jason works full-time as President and CEO of K-9 Solutions International (K-9SI), where he manages domestic and international K-9 detection contracts and consults with civilian and government agencies. When he isn’t actively working for K-9SI, he volunteers for Project K-9 Hero, working hard to grow the foundation so that he can serve as many retired K-9 heroes as possible. Before Jason began splitting his time between K-9SI and Project K-9 Hero, Jason served as a Field Canine Coordinator for the U.S. Government, where he provided program oversight and subject matter expertise to law enforcement canine teams and federal canine teams. He provided leadership, technical advice, guidance and direction to ensure the overall effectiveness and utilization of explosive detection K-9 teams. He ensured that national program policy, standards and guidelines were communicated in a clear and effective manner to a variety of internal and external stakeholders, while also ensuring adherence to such measures. He served as a K-9 liaison to civilian and law enforcement officials on the federal, state and local government levels. Vision: – To ensure the best quality of life for our nation's retired Military Working Dogs and Police K-9 Heroes through providing assistance with medical costs, food and end of duty services. Purpose: – To educate the public on the costs and responsibilities of adopting a retired K-9 Hero. – To help cover or offset all medical, food and end of duty costs for retired K-9 Heroes. – To ensure each K-9 Hero is rewarded with health and the way of life that they deserve for their faithful and loyal service. Additionally: Retired Military Working Dogs and Police K-9 Heroes accepted into Project K-9 Hero will have up to $3,000.00 per year in medical costs covered for them. Project K-9 Hero will also cover the K-9's food costs and have food shipped directly to the owner's residence. Project K-9 Hero additionally provides $500.00 to the owner when the K-9 is deceased for cremation or burial service. Any remaining funds out of the $3000.00 annual medical allotment will go into our general emergency medical fund available to all K-9's in our program for surgeries or other medical expenses that may exceed the annual benefit. This is all, of course, dependent on funding raised through donations. I met Chris Fraize almost a year ago after a friend referred we seek his help with training our sweet (and wild) dogs. I met with him for a consultation at his headquarters, Canine Solutions Training Services. Needless to say, it was clear we had A LOT of work to do. What struck me the most was how Chris pinpointed some of my biggest insecurities and struggles in the session and pointed them out to me with a proverbial laser beam. He has a deep love for dogs and recognizes that by helping their people be the leaders in their lives and families, he is also changing the lives of their dogs.  He is a former standup comedian and has been approached by multiple reality TV networks for his very own shows; but, he has chosen to forgo those opportunities because they did not feel in alignment with his core message. I am happy to report that Chris has not only helped our dogs to help us, but he has helped me step in to my power to become a better coach, parent and leader across the board in my life. I can't wait for you to listen to this epic conversation and to also take away some great tips for working with your dogs, as well.  Chris has been professionally training dogs for more than 20 years. He specializes in canine behavior rehabilitation and has trained Police K-9 national qualifiers, weight pull national champions, therapy and agility dogs. He has given seminars on canine behavior problems, dog bite prevention, weight pull, dog sport problem solving and more.  Chris has been featured on Animal Planet, in Dog Sport Magazine and other national publications, radio, news and television programs. He has won a multitude of awards and certifications for training, judging and participating in canine competition. IN THIS EPISODE YOU WILL LEARN: Why Chris believes failure is our greatest opportunity. How the past-future pendulum is keeping you trapped. How to be the leader of the pack in your life and business. How the "Disney syndrome" is affecting your relationship with your pets. Why weaving family in to business is one of the most important decisions he has made as a parent and partner. How to be authentically you in your brand and business without apology.
