We loved diving into this conversation of how to help teen girls stay healthy and managing their hormones with fitness and nutrition experts Kristie Winter and Michelle Hutton (Owners of TwinFitness). In this episode we discuss why teen girls are starting their periods earlier and the role of body fat and sugar in hormone production. Kristie & Michelle graduated with their Bachelor of Science Degrees in Exercise Science and Nutrition from Kansas State University in 1997. This dynamic duo founded TwinFitness in 2003, and has since continued their education with certifications from Precision Nutrition, as well as The American Council of Exercise as Personal Trainers and Group Exercise Instructors. Key Takeaways: The average age of menarche (first period) has decreased by several years over the past century. This is likely due to a combination of factors, including increased body fat, decreased physical activity, and exposure to endocrine-disrupting chemicals. Body fat produces hormones, so girls with higher body fat percentages are more likely to start their periods earlier. Sugar can also disrupt hormone production. Eating too much sugar can lead to high insulin levels, which can promote weight gain and make it more difficult for the body to regulate blood sugar levels. There are a number of things parents can do to help their teen girls stay healthy and manage their hormones, including: Encouraging them to eat a healthy diet that is low in processed foods and high in fruits, vegetables, and whole grains. Helping them to get regular exercise. Talking to them about the importance of body positivity and healthy self-esteem. If you are concerned about your daughter's health or hormone levels, talk to her doctor. Michelle and Kristie started TwinFitness to empower women to be their best versions of themselves. With their knowledge and experience of raising daughters as well, they are able to guide women and their daughters to a healthier, happier lifestyle. Before Nicole Moorman would become the hottest celebrity defense attorney this side of Camille Vasquez, she was born on April 17th, sometime in the late 80s, in Chicago, Illinois. Nicole would then spend the next two decades of her childhood and adolescence living in the greater Chicago area while working her all-too fine derrière off to become a criminal defense lawyer. Upon her graduation from high school, Nicole would accept an academic scholarship to Southern Illinois University where she would spend the next four years obtaining a Bachelor's Degree of Science, specializing in Criminal Justice and Corrections with a minor in Pre-Law Studies. During her career at that prestigious institution, Nicole would pad her resume by spending a considerable amount of her free time partaking in a number of extra-curricular endeavors, including as a member of the Student Body Government, the Criminal Justice Association, as well as the Pre-Law Association. Following her graduation from SIU in 2010, Nicole ramped up her workload by finally ditching Chicago and moving to Atlanta, Georgia where she enrolled at Troy University and earned herself two Masters of Science Degrees -- one in Criminal Justice and a second in Public Administration. Nicole would go on to achieve a 3.8 GPA at Troy despite the fact that she was moonlighting all throughout her time there as a Probation Officer for the Georgia Department of Corrections, eventually graduating from her program in 2013 with honors.

In this web development podcast episode, I made the statement that within 5 years, under 50% of junior software engineers will have a Computer Science degree. Software engineering is a field that updates too quickly for college curriculums to keep up with at a fast pace, which is often why they're outdated. They put students in a massive amount of debt without any guarantee of a job. Alternative paths such as coding bootcamps and self-paced online programs are on the rise, and rightfully so. With the abundant access of education on the internet, it's no longer worth the return on your investment to invest in a bloated degree. Do you agree?Guests:Evan Vaughn - https://www.linkedin.com/in/ejvaughnNicolas Schneider - https://www.linkedin.com/in/nicolas-schneider-01Henry Doce - https://www.linkedin.com/in/henrydoce-----------------

MONEY FM 89.3 - Prime Time with Howie Lim, Bernard Lim & Finance Presenter JP Ong
Job seekers owning demonstrable experience with data might soon overtake those with data science degrees when it comes to the candidates global enterprises are seeking, according to a major survey of global business decision makers commissioned by data and analytics firm Qlik, on behalf of the Data Literacy Project. Almost two-thirds of both global and APAC enterprises surveyed ranked prior job experience or a case study interview as the top indicator of a candidate’s data literacy.mBy contrast, only 18% globally and 15% in APAC viewed a Bachelor or Master degree in science – let alone data science - or even a Doctorate degree as its primary consideration when hiring. What do these findings mean for jobseekers and does this mean degrees no longer hold sway or are important? We find out from Suganthi Shiv-kumar, Managing Director for ASEAN at Qlik as the trend seems toward global enterprises hiring practical skills over degrees.
In this episode I'm joined by Ben Nelson, co-founder of Lambda School, an increasingly popular coding bootcamp with a slightly different structure and monetization strategy than the others. Computer Science programs at a university are known to be tough, painful, and exhausting. This is because of the nature of the material, duration of the program, and the fact that you're probably going to be challenged with difficult classes outside the direct scope of software development. This is where coding schools such as Lambda School come into play because these are programs that are designed to teach you relevant workforce skills in short amounts of time. Ben Nelson experienced a traditional university, switched to a popular coding bootcamp, and then started his own coding bootcamp because of the experience it was giving students. I personally only ever completed a Computer Science program at a university, so this episode shares perspectives and information from both points of view. A brief writetup to this episode can be found via https://www.thepolyglotdeveloper.com/2019/06/tpdp-e28-coding-bootcamps-vs-traditional-computer-science-degrees/

When I am having an experience, when I'm having an emotion, I can check in and say, is this the kind of person that I want? Is my behavior in alignment with how I want the world to experience me? Thoughts on Breathing Whenever I feel like I am out of sorts, I return to breath. So I just focus on taking three deep breaths, slow and easy, and it helps me to really center myself and make choices from that point. Suggested Resources Book: The Power of Intention by Dr. Wayne Dyer Book: Mindset Magic: Using Scientific & Spiritual Principles to Create Your Life by Krysti Turznik App: Calm Bullying Story I was fortunate that I personally didn't experience much of that. I do have an experience that my daughter had gone through about two years ago. She was being bullied at school by a special needs student. There was nothing that we could do from the other child's perspective, so I worked a lot with my daughter and really helped her to understand that the things that were being said and the actions that were being taken really had nothing to do with her. It was just things that the other child needed to do. So we talked a lot about when something negative happens to you, how you can really take that as an opportunity to look at yourself and make sure that your behavior is what you want to accomplish and then see how you can maybe change some things so that you're in a better environment or so that situation doesn't take place again.
I have heard about shadow work, but still didn't realize how important it is to work with that part of ourselves. On today's show, Krysti and I talk about shadows, life lessons and mindset. I loved this conversation. Krysti speaks from the metaphysical as well as the spiritual side of things, and puts our shadow in the light. (No pun intended). In higher education, the number of computer science bachelor’s degrees follows boom-and-bust market trends in finance and technology—growing when times are good and plummeting when economies crash. And since 2010, computer science majors have again been on the incline, after a major drop off following the Dot-com bubble burst. But what have we learned from these patterns? And what can it tell us about the future? Mehran Sahami, professor and associate chair for education in the computer science department at Stanford University, has witnessed and tracked these patterns closely. He offers insights about the past and what students and educators interested in CS should consider going forward. https://www.edsurge.com/news/2018-04-02-computer-science-degrees-and-technology-s-boom-and-bust-cycle
