March 10-16When that group of 40 or more gathered in the 20 by 30-foot Whitmer cabin that April 6, 1830 to organize the “only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth” (Doctrine and Covenants 1:30), they could not have entirely foreseen what lay ahead for this church that would, as the prophet Daniel said, “roll forth to fill the whole earth” (See Daniel 2: 31-45), but they did know they were about a great work inspired by God Himself. Let's take you to that scene in this episode.

According to the angel of God, once the decree to rebuild Jerusalem went forth, God's people would know for certain that the Messiah would be in Israel in 483 years. This is a fascinating prophecy that opens scripture and indisputably points to Jesus Christ as the Messiah. God told His people the exact year and even the day in which He would present Himself as their king. The Bible warns, “to whom much is given, much is required”, so because they refused Him knowing that the time was at hand, God held Israel accountable.
Personal Revival, Nation Awakening & Generational Reformation In this newest message, Pastor Brian sets the plumb line that it is God who determines our times and seasons of His beloved. It is not the enemy (See Daniel 2). Though the enemy would desire to disrupt and superimpose his agenda, supplanting the times and seasons of God, we give him no place and no access. The Church, as a whole, is in a time of exposure and cleansing where God is dealing with sin. This is beyond heartbreaking and disappointing, but it is most necessary. Our God is an all-consuming fire, torching all that must go. He will have a pure Bride for His Son. May we be the people that live, never to grieve or quench the Holy Spirit, but walk in purity, integrity and the fear of Lord. The Church is also in a moment of highest decision—will the church retreat and cower in fear in the midst of major battles or will the church rise to boldly overcome the workers of darkness? As a Power Jew, it is my job to help people understand how to fight for Israel and the Jewish people. How to support the fight AGAINST the Hamas death cult and FOR the hostages. Making the case that Israel is the only liberal democracy in the Middle East, fighting for the rights of all our citizens to live in peace and security. As a power gay, comedian Daniel-Ryan Spaulding is fighting that same fight across the queer world. Because he came to Israel for the parties, and found himself fighting for Western civilization. After 10/7, his videos went viral with his excoriating, withering put downs of those celebrating Hamas atrocities. Trying to make liberals around the world understand - that if you support liberation and equality against violence and oppression, Israel's fight is your fight. Comedian Daniel-Ryan Spaulding was living in the heart of Berlin's libertine arts and culture crowd, when a chance encounter with some Israelis, and ensuing visits to the country transformed everything he had come to believe about Israel. He was back in NYC on Oct 7, and as the details of the Hamas's horrific invasion unfolded, he realized he had found a new calling. As a self described Power Gay, Daniel took on the mission of communicating the truth about Israel and the erupting war of civilizations to the queer world and beyond. Drawing on his personal experiences, his education, a healthy dose common sense, and the rarest of human traits - bravery - Daniel began posting selfie videos that exposed the hypocrisy and ignorance he witnessed all around him.The videos became a international viral sensation, and his excoriating, withering put downs of those celebrating Hamas atrocities forced liberals around the world to realize: if you support liberation and equality against violence and oppression, Israel's fight is your fight. Christ rose from the dead on the third day, according to the Scriptures. But according to the Scriptures, what happened on the “fourth day”?On Sunday, we are going to take up that question and look at Genesis 1:14–19, which tells us that the lights in the heavens were made on the fourth day. And taking our cues from the rest of the Bible, we are going to see what this day of creation tells us about the world and the One who made the world. Indeed, as the world shakes around us, we need to see that God rules over all things. On Day 4, he created the greater and lesser lights to rule the day and the night. And we need to see how the Creator of light is also the Ruler of rulers. Indeed, this is evident in Genesis 1, but in the fulness of time it is even more apparent as we behold Christ seated at God's right hand. Indeed, as I will argue, the fourth day leads us to see Christ's ascension and rule over all creation. Yet, to understand how that works, we will need to look carefully at Genesis 1, as well as the books of Isaiah, Joel, Luke and Acts. To prepare for Sunday, take time to pray for God to shine his light on us. Read Genesis 1and if you have time, read Genesis 37, Isaiah 13, and Joel 2. Keep an eye out for the sun, moon, and stars, and ask––how does Genesis 1 inform the rest of redemptive history? This Sunday we will consider that very point. As the Lord allows, I look forward to worshiping God with you on Sunday. It was a joy to bring greetings to Arlington Baptist Church last week, but it will be better to be home again. I hope to see you at OBC on Sunday. For His Glory and your joy in Jesus,Pastor David--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Discussion & Response Questions: Genesis 1:14–19How does Day 4 (Gen. 1:14–19) fit with the rest of Genesis 1?What is the relationship between God's light, the light in the heavens, and the lights created on Day 4?What are the lights on Day 4 for? Have you noticed their purpose before? How many things do we overlook in Scripture? Is there any significance to the fact that the sun, moon, and stars are not mentioned in Genesis 1:14–19? How might this reinforce our understanding of the world before the Flood?Where do we see the lights of heaven mentioned in Scripture? Think: Genesis 15:5; 37:5–11. How do the Prophets speak of the sun, moon, and stars? (See Isaiah 13:9–13; Ezekiel 32:7–8; Joel 2:28–32). How does Genesis 1 help us understand those passages? What is the connection between Day 4 and Jesus? (See Malachi 4:2; Mark 13:24–25; Luke 21:24–26; Hebrews 12:26).If Day 3 is tied to the resurrection, and Day 4 is related to Christ's ascension (see Acts 2), what comes next for Christ? What comes next for the new creation? (Lord willing, we will see this next week). How does knowing that Christ is ruling over all powers and principalities cause you to stand? How does his Lordship over the nations encourage you today? What is the hope for the Christian? (See Daniel 12:1-3; Philippians 2:15).
Paul writes to the Thessalonian church about the prophetic events related to the Day of the Lord. He warns them about the great deception, the same deception Jesus spoke about in Matthew 24:24, “For false christs and false prophets will rise and show great signs and wonders to deceive, if possible, even the elect.” THE PROPHETIC EVENTS RELATED TO THE DAY OF THE LORD… 1. The great apostasy of the modern Church The great “falling away” prophesied by the Apostle Paul is a “super sign” that the rapture of the Church is near. While there have always been “Christians” and “churches” that have “fallen away,” it has never been as widespread and “en masse” as now. God describes the end-times “Church” as a “harlot” because she has prostituted the truth with lies! Revelation 17:5, “And on her forehead a name was written: MYSTERY, BABYLON THE GREAT, THE MOTHER OF HARLOTS AND OF THE ABOMINATIONS OF THE EARTH.” 2. The rapture of the true Church Paul is very clear that the Holy Spirit is currently restraining Satan and unmitigated evil from complete world dominion. It's currently God's Spirit in God's people restraining Satanic wickedness from complete world domination. But when God's Spirit leaves with God's people at the rapture of the Church, all restraint will be removed too. 3. The emergence of the Antichrist The Antichrist will be a political leader who will unite the world into a global governance and a global system of commerce. He will broker a seven-year peace treaty with Israel and her enemies, allowing the Jews to rebuild their temple. (See Daniel 9:27) The temple must be rebuilt because the Jews will be worshiping in the temple at the time the Antichrist breaks the peace treaty midway through the tribulation. 4. The deception of the masses of humanity After the rapture, God will bring condemnation through a strong delusion on all those who had heard the truth of the gospel but had rejected it. There will be worldwide revival among those who have never heard the gospel prior to the rapture (Revelation 7). But those who knew the truth and rejected it will believe a lie and follow the Antichrist, damning their own souls. 5. The destruction of Satan's kingdom Satan will reign through the Antichrist over a world kingdom for a short season. But his diabolical reign of terror will end with Christ's return to the earth at the end of the seven-year tribulation. He will change the times and laws and they shall fall into his hands until time, times and half a time"- Paraphrase of Daniel 7:25. The "king of fierce countenance" of Daniel 8:23 is revealed. He will rule from Mystery Babylon, his seat shall rise in the United States of America and in fact he rises from their midst. A man who understands dark sayings, of no mercy or kindness. An absolute dictator, a "king in a time of few king"s. Hear the words of the Lord: Barack Obama will rise again to power in America and this time nobody will remove him until he is struck down and removed by the Lord. See Daniel 8:23- 25. We know the Bible mentions demons many times, but what exactly are they? Are they fallen angels, or a coded reference to something else? Here's what the Bible says about their origins and powers. Lisa Loraine Baker Contributing Writer 2022 2 Nov Are Demons Really Fallen Angels? The world is full of varying depictions of the devil—from a monstrous-looking red being with horns, cloven hooves, and a twisting, pointed tail to an almost cherubic, harmless-looking animation with a cute smile. Some people even refuse to believe in the devil and his minions. Demons are spoken of as angels who, when Satan fell, changed from good to bad as they followed him. They are also said to be subject to him. But are they? And are demons really fallen angels? Where Does the Bible Mention Demons? The Bible has much to say about demons, and we find them spoken of (as demons) in all four of the Gospels. The Gospels mention them concerning Jesus ridding people of them (Matthew 8:28; Mark 5:15; Luke 4:35) or the Jewish religious leaders claiming Jesus had a demon (John 8:49). Synonyms the Bible uses to describe demons include those employed by Paul in Ephesians 6:12: the rulers, the authorities, the cosmic powers over this present darkness, and the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Other terms include unclean spirits (Matthew 12:43), Legion (Luke 8:30), a “spirit of divination” (Acts 16:16), evil spirits (Luke 7:21), and “the devil and his angels (Matthew 25:41). At times, as seen in the Acts passage, the demons are called by what they attempt to do. Most mentions of the term demon occur in the New Testament. However, they are present in the Old Testament as well, as seen in Leviticus 17:7, Deuteronomy 32:17, and Psalm 106:37. In other parts of the Old Testament, some evil beings are called gods (1 Samuel 28:13; Isaiah 8:19) and are acknowledged as demonic spirits because they are linked with the deceased. Another Old Testament term commonly referred to as a demon is azazel (Leviticus 16:8, 10, 26). What Does the Bible Say about Fallen Angels? As followers (and we all follow something or someone), we emulate our leader. As Christians, Jesus Christ is our leader. He is our Lord (Revelation 17:14), the Author and Perfecter of our faith (Hebrews 12:2). One of our main goals is to become like Him (Romans 8:29; 1 John 3:2). Demons take a different course because, they are fallen angels—those who fell with Satan when he was banished from God's presence in heaven (Revelation 12:3-4). Being fallen angels, demons are spiritual beings (Matthew 10:1). They are also enemies of God (Revelation 12:9) with limited power over men (Revelation 16:14). When Satan fell, one-third of the angels in heaven followed him, and they serve him to their ultimate demise (Luke 10:18; Revelation 12:3-4, 12:7-9; 18:2, 21). Barry Cooper states, “Demons are angels who fell with Satan who was, of course, an angel himself. They were those who had taken sides with Satan in his rebellion against God. Talk about being on the wrong side of history.” Matthew 25:41 tells us what happens to demons; they will depart as cursed and be placed in the “eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels.” Is Satan a Fallen Angel? Satan gained his notorious name when he fell from heaven. We must be careful with the interpretation of problematic texts. However, given its context, the prophet seems to refer to Satan in Ezekiel 28:1-19. The descriptions used cannot fit a human (King of Tyre). Yes, there existed a certain king over Tyre, but we can reckon Ezekiel seems to have moved past a human understanding to describe Satan's fall from heaven. A human cannot be described in the Bible as “perfect in beauty” or having been in Eden as an anointed, guardian cherub. This being is also described as having walked in the midst of the stones of fire (See Daniel 7:9), an allusion to being before the very throne of God. No human king has ever been in such a position. --- Send in a voice message: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/grizzly-onthehunt/message Support this podcast: https://podcasters.spotify.com/pod/show/grizzly-onthehunt/support

My work with leaders and people who aspire to be leaders follows a similar path to the interviews on my podcast, uncovering pivotal moments in their lives and learning how to share them to connect more authentically with others, to make their presentations and speaking more engaging, to reveal patterns that have kept them stuck or moved them forward, and to improve their relationships at work and at home. The Battle We Cannot See - Daniel 10:1-11:1 - 3-13-22 Service by Trinity Hinsdale
"Inspiration and the Common Understanding of the Day" Sabbath School Lesson for 2022, 1st Quarter In These Last Days: The Message of Hebrews Week 2 This week's lesson is entitled, "The Message of Hebrews." We thought we would take a look at a topic that was presented in this week's teacher's guide regarding the authorship of Hebrews. It reads, "As we noted last week, the early New Testament Christians read Hebrews as a letter from the apostle Paul. Strictly speaking, however, the writer of the book of Hebrews appears to be anonymous. Speculation has given rise to at least 13 possible authorial candidates, such as Luke, Barnabas, Jude, Stephen, Priscilla and Aquila, Apollos, or even Mary, the mother of Jesus. What we safely can infer about the authorship from the epistle itself are four facts: First, the author must have been well educated. Hebrews has, by far, the best Greek of the New Testament. Second, the author was acquainted with Jewish methods of interpreting Scripture, such as gezerah shavah (argument by analogy), and other such techniques. Third, the author is steeped in the Jewish Scriptures. Hebrews has the most extensive use of Old Testament quotes. Fourth the author knew Timothy (Heb. 13:23). All of these facts speak in favor of, rather than against, Pauline authorship. Certainly, the author chose to remain anonymous for undisclosed reasons. His anonymity may even suggest that his message is more important than his identity. At the same time, we would be remiss if we failed to acknowledge that Ellen G. White attests to Pauline authorship of the book of Hebrews. Moving forward in faith in that divine disclosure, we shall refer throughout the lessons with confidence to the author as Paul." Sabbath School Teacher's Comments, January 1-7, 2022, page 29. So, it is true that the author of Hebrews does not identify himself or herself. The recipients of the epistle are not identified either. The authorship of this work has been debated for almost 2000 years! Origen, an early church scholar from the second to third century is quoted as saying, "God only knows" who wrote Hebrews. (See Eusebius, Historia Ecclesiastica, 6.25.11-14). Also, both John Calvin and Martin Luther doubted that Paul wrote it. With the limited information we have, we just cannot say for sure who wrote Hebrews. But the teacher's lesson notes that Ellen White speaks of Paul as the author of Hebrews. Since Ellen White was an inspired messenger, does this mean that the mystery is solved? Today we are going to look into this, and deal with the interesting phenomenon of inspiration. Ellen wrote, "The Bible is written by inspired men, but it is not God's mode of thought and expression. It is that of humanity. God, as a writer, is not represented. Men will often say such an expression is not like God. But God has not put Himself in words, in logic, in rhetoric, on trial in the Bible. The writers of the Bible were God's penmen, not His pen. Look at the different writers. It is not the words of the Bible that are inspired, but the men that were inspired. Inspiration acts not on the man's words or his expressions but on the man himself, who, under the influence of the Holy Ghost, is imbued with thoughts. But the words receive the impress of the individual mind. The divine mind is diffused. The divine mind and will is combined with the human mind and will; thus the utterances of the man are the word of God." Ellen White, Manuscript 24, 1886 in 1SM 21 So, although inspiration is a function of the Spirit of God, the mode of thought and expression in inspired writings is "that of humanity." And this applies not only to the inspired writings in the bible, but of Ellen White's inspired writings as well. Basically, God inspires a prophet's mind with thoughts, and then the prophet communicates these thoughts using their own words unless the words are spoken by an angel, in which case they are enclosed in quotation marks. Ellen said, "Although I am as dependent upon the Spirit of the Lord in writing my views as I am in receiving them, yet the words I employ in describing what I have seen are my own, unless they be those spoken to me by an angel, which I always enclose in marks of quotation." Ellen White, The Review and Herald, October 8, 1867 So, the prophet's job is to communicate God's message as clearly as possible. God is trying to get His message to humanity through a human messenger of His choosing. But, this task is a nuanced one. Why? Well, for starters, we have a limited understanding of many things. Our understanding of the way things are has changed over the millennia. As the Angel Gabriel told Daniel, in the time of the end, knowledge will increase (See Daniel 12:4). "The truth is an advancing truth," (See Review and Herald, March 25, 1890) as Ellen said. Knowledge can increase or even decrease, depending on various factors. Truths well known in one age may become lost to later generations. To these points, people, including prophets, are subject to the context of their day. For example, in ancient times people thought the earth was flat and covered by a solid sky dome, with a sun that moved across this firmament. Because of this context, the inspired prophets of God in that day often wrote with this understanding of the cosmos as a given. In order for God's message to be received by the human mind of that day, especially if it had nothing to do with the nature of the cosmos, God made allowances for human ignorance in such matters. For example, in Psalm 19, David used the common understanding of the way "the heavens" operated to communicate truths about God's word. In David's day, the common perspective was that the earth was stationary and the sun moved on a circuit across the sky-dome that was pitched over the earth like a tent (see Psalm 19:4-6). So while David was inspired by the Holy Spirit to communicate the truth that God's word enlightens us like the sun enlightens the earth, God accommodated the common understanding of the day in order to reach the hearts and minds of the original audience of the Psalm. Whether the sun moves around the earth or the earth moves around the sun was, and is, incidental to main point of the Psalm; that is, that the word of God is like the sun - enlightening, glorious, and greatly to be desired. When communicating a God-inspired message, God's messengers naturally do so using language and imagery reflective of the common ideas of their own time. What is the main point or message of Psalm 19? Is it that the sun moves around the earth, or is it that the word of Yahweh is enlightening, glories, and dependable? Of course, the latter. The fact that the Psalmist expressed the common assumption that the sun revolves around the earth wasn't a divine disclosure that that is how the cosmos actually works. But sometimes people mistake these incidental statements expressing "the common understanding of the day" for a God-given fact, when actually it is the prophet's main point that is the God-given message. So, when it comes to Ellen White's statements concerning Hebrews, was her main point that Paul was the author? Or was it something else? We can know the answer by simply looking at what she wrote. For example, if she wrote something like, "I was shown that Paul was the author of Hebrews," then we would know that this is a divinely revealed message to us. But it wouldn't even have to be that overt. She could have also said something like, "We can know Paul is the author of Hebrews because of x, y, and z," where she would give specific reasons for us to responsibly believe this as a fact. Basically, she would have to in some way actually teach, as her point of focus, that Paul wrote Hebrews. But this isn't what we find in Ellen's writings. Instead, what we find is that she simply speaks of Hebrews as though it was written by Paul in the process of making some other point. For example, in Great Controversy pages 411 and 413, she says things like "And Paul says that the first tabernacle..." and then she quotes from Hebrews. Her point here isn't at all that Paul wrote Hebrews; her point is that there is a real physical sanctuary in a real physical heaven and she's quoting Hebrews to support her point. If tradition had settled on the idea that Hebrews was written by Barnabas and if Ellen assumed that authorship instead, her point in the Great Controversy wouldn't be affected in the least. Now, to be clear, we are not saying that Paul did not write Hebrews, but we are saying that we do not have enough evidence to believe this as a resolved conclusion. And we are also saying that Ellen White did not make the authorship of Hebrews one of her main points in any of her writings. She only mentions Paul as the author of Hebrews incidentally while making her main points. As you probably know, many people have the common understanding that Paul wrote Hebrews, both today and in Ellen's day. To get off into the weeds about the authorship of Hebrews could have detracted from the main message God was trying to give, especially if the authorship of Hebrews had little to do with the main message, and also if there is little if any historical evidence to back it up. Ellen White said, "In regard to infallibility, I never claimed it; God alone is infallible. His word is true, and in Him is no variableness, or shadow of turning." Ellen White, Letter 10, 1895. 1 SM 37.4 God surely knows who wrote Hebrews, but He has not made it a special point of revelation to us today. And for whatever reason, the author of Hebrews did not make it a special point of revelation either. The letters known to be from Paul start off with an introduction of himself as the author, and also an identification of his audience. As we have already mentioned, neither of those things happen in "Hebrews." But who knows, maybe Paul just didn't do that for this particular letter? If it even is a letter – maybe it is a written sermon, or a written record of a spoken sermon. Ultimately, there just isn't conclusive evidence as to who wrote Hebrews, and since Ellen White never made a special point of the subject, we shouldn't take her words that incidentally refer to Paul as the author as a "divine disclosure" that Paul, in fact, wrote it. Ellen didn't teach that Paul wrote Hebrews any more than the Psalmist taught that the sun revolves around the earth. If we don't take geocentrism as a divine disclosure, we shouldn't take the Pauline authorship of Hebrews as such either. The bottom line is, we shouldn't try to make something that God didn't show into something that God did show. For more on the nature of inspiration, please see our studies linked here.
Recorded Jan 2 1983
When I was raised in Puerto Rico in the 60's, we celebrated Christmas, but "Reyes" or "Kings" was THE celebration of when the three Kings or Magi came to worship Jesus. The night before Three Kings Day celebrations on January 6 were special nights. Children all over the island would leave grass out (generally by a manger built or prepared for the occasion) to feed the camels of the Three Kings, and they in turn would leave presents. Many times, Reyes was a much bigger celebration than Christmas. We loved Reyes! As you grow up, and begin to follow Jesus, you learn a few things if you will study. For example, the names and the numbers of the wise men that came from the East are never mentioned in the New Testament. Not only that, but the word that is translated as wise men (magoi) is not the Greek word for kings (basileon)! Oops! So much for the tradition of the Three Gentile Kings that came to worship baby Jesus, all based on human invention. None of it is Scriptural! The above may be disconcerting for the unlearned, but the truth will not oppress you. The truth of God's Word will make you free from the traditions of men, if you will allow it. (John 8:32) Here comes much food for thought. The Wise Men that Came to See Jesus were Magi - Astrologers? Does anybody but me have a problem with the tradition that the wise men were astrologers of the Magi caste from Babylon? I hope not. For many years, as a Christian, that “scratched” at me on the inside. We know from Scripture how much God despises all the pagan practices of idolatry that include sorcery (deals with potions and spells), witchcraft (those that cast spells -incantations and curses and invoke (evil) spirits to get their will done), necromancers (those that attempt to speak to the dead, mediums), soothsayers (fortune tellers, and that includes the Ouija boards of today, tarot cards, divination, psychics), spiritists (those that channel evil spirits to tell your fortune), and astrologers (those that tell of events past, present, and future by “reading” the stars and planets). Here are a few verses of Scripture that put in view God's perspective: Do not defile yourselves by turning to mediums or to those who consult the spirits of the dead. I am the Lord your God. (Leviticus 19:31 NLT) I will also turn against those who commit spiritual prostitution by putting their trust in mediums or in those who consult the spirits of the dead. I will cut them off from the community. (Lev. 20:6 NLT) Men and women among you who act as mediums or who consult the spirits of the dead must be put to death by stoning. They are guilty of a capital offense. (Lev. 20:27 NLT) And do not let your people practice fortune-telling, or use sorcery, or interpret omens, or engage in witchcraft, or cast spells, or function as mediums or psychics, or call forth the spirits of the dead… The nations you are about to displace consult sorcerers and fortune-tellers, but the Lord your God forbids you to do such things. (Deuteronomy 18:10-11, 14 NLT) Manasseh also sacrificed his own son in the fire. He practiced sorcery and divination, and he consulted with mediums and psychics. He did much that was evil in the LORD's sight, arousing his anger. (2 Kings 21:6 NLT) God calls these practices evil and wicked in the sight of the Lord, arousing His anger, spiritual prostitution, and a capital offense. He is the same today. He has never changed His mind on the subject. (Malachi 3:6) Here is one portion in the Scripture that specifically referred to the astrologers of Babylon (Isaiah 47:1- 5), the very caste that the wise men that came to worship Jesus were supposed to belong to! So, disaster will overtake you, and you won't be able to charm it away. Calamity will fall upon you, and you won't be able to buy your way out. A catastrophe will strike you suddenly, one for which you are not prepared. “Now use your magical charms! Use the spells you have worked at all these years! Maybe they will do you some good. Maybe they can make someone afraid of you. All the advice you receive has made you tired. Where are all your astrologers, those stargazers who make predictions each month? Let them stand up and save you from what the future holds. But they are like straw burning in a fire; they cannot save themselves from the flame. (Isaiah 47:11-14 NLT) God mocks them! They cannot save themselves from the flame! Destruction was coming to them for their evil and wicked practices. Yes, these calamities will come upon you, despite all your witchcraft and magic. “You felt secure in your wickedness. ‘No one sees me,' you said. But your ‘wisdom' and ‘knowledge' have led you astray, and you said, ‘I am the only one, and there is no other.' So, disaster will overtake you, and you won't be able to charm it away. Calamity will fall upon you, and you won't be able to buy your way out. A catastrophe will strike you suddenly, one for which you are not prepared. (Isaiah 47:9-11 NLT) There are a few references in the New Testament to witchcraft, fortune-tellers, and those practicing the magic arts. The story of the woman with the evil spirit (spirit of divination) and practiced fortunetelling (which was cast out by Paul- Acts 16:16-18) is one of them. Then, there is the story of Bar-Jesus the magician-astrologer (Acts 13:6-11). Paul called him “full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness!” That, my brethren, is the Holy Spirit's take on all that practice such things! It was the Holy Spirit that anointed Paul to speak a command to blind the sorcerer. Also, the Apostle Paul mentions sorcery (NLT, NKJV, etc.) or witchcraft (KJV, NASB, etc.) as a desire of the sinful nature, and the fact that those practicing it will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21) In Revelation, it is written that after devastating plagues hit many parts of the earth: But the people who did not die in these plagues still refused to repent of their evil deeds and turn to God. They continued to worship demons and idols made of gold, silver, bronze, stone, and wood— idols that can neither see nor hear nor walk! And they did not repent of their murders or their witchcraft or their sexual immorality or their thefts. (Revelation 9:20-21 NLT) One more to clench the nail on the back of the board: But cowards, unbelievers, the corrupt, murderers, the immoral, those who practice witchcraft, idol worshipers, and all liars—their fate is in the fiery lake of burning sulfur. This is the second death. (Rev. 21:8 NLT) Those Scriptural references just threw off for me all the connection of the wise men to the caste of Magi from Babylon, but let's read the New Testament text, and move on from there. Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men (Gr. magoi) from the East came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is He who has been born King of the Jews? For we have seen His star in the East and have come to worship Him.” (Matthew 2:1, 2 NKJV parenthesis- my addition) The star that they saw related to the King of the Jews was prophesied by none other than Balaam in his fourth prophecy. (Numbers 24:15-19) Balaam is a whole other problem, but I will summarize it the best I can. Balaam was a backslid prophet and became a “prophet for hire.” Balaam would bless or curse people for a price. Do we have similar “prophets” today? A few of those covetous and likeminded prophets are roaming around today among Christians. Who are they? They are those that for a fee will send you a personal “prophetic word.” The more money you send, the more personal the “word” will be. They are in the same category as Balaam was, a conniving and money hungry swindler! Because Balaam was backslid, he was a false prophet whose teaching was despised by the Lord Jesus. The Lord denounced those who followed the doctrine of Balaam because it led to eating things sacrificed to idols and to committing sexual immorality. (See Revelation 2:14, Numbers 31:16.) Yet, in all the prophet's madness, the Spirit of the Lord spoke through Balaam's mouth, and a grand prophetic word from the Lord came forth about the future King-Messiah. You may be wondering how could God possibly use a “false prophet” to bring a real word from the Lord? He anointed a heathen king to help Israel. His name was Cyrus! (See Isaiah 43:1-10, Ezra 1). There are numerous examples in the Scripture of the Lord using pagans for his purposes. So, in the case of Balaam, the Lord anointed him to speak prophetically on a certain occasion. That does not mean he was right or accepted before the Lord, but that God used him on a selected occasion to express a prophetic utterance from the Lord. Here is the prophetic Word that the wise men followed into Israel in search of the King-Messiah. …The utterance of Balaam the son of Beor, and the utterance of the man whose eyes are opened; The utterance of him who hears the words of God and has the knowledge of the Most High, Who sees the vision of the Almighty, Who falls down, with eyes wide open: I see Him, but not now; I behold Him, but not near; A Star shall come out of Jacob; A Scepter shall rise out of Israel… (Numbers 24:15-17 NKJV) The wise men saw the star rising out of Jacob or Israel and followed it from the East. Their point of origin was in the East, presumably from Babylon. Why Babylon? The word used for “wise men” is the Greek word magos (magoi- in the plural form indicating more than one “wise man”). In Spanish, no bones are made about it, and the three kings are called the three magician kings, "los tres Reyes magos." That is really a mess in my estimation. The tradition runs deep and scholars have not helped much in this area because they have more readily assumed the position of tradition instead of finding a solution to the dilemma. The Complete Word Study dictionary of the Bible (coded to Strong's Concordance numbers) indicates (G3097) that the word magoi is of foreign origin from the Hebrew (H7248); a Magian, that is, Oriental scientist; by implication a magician: - sorcerer, wise man. Notice what Thayer's Greek- English Lexicon says about the same word magoi. The name given by the Babylonians, Medes, Persians, and others, to the wise men, teachers, priests, physicians, astrologers, seers, interpreter of dreams, augers, soothsayers, sorcerers, etc. It goes on to say that the oriental wise men (astrologers) who, having discovered by the rising of the remarkable star that the Messiah had just been born, and that therefore thy came to Jerusalem to worship him.[1] The acclaimed and scholarly Bauer's “A Greek-English Lexicon of the New Testament and Other Early Christian Literature” (BDAG) basically says the same thing as the other two dictionaries mentioned. So, there is a case for the magoi (plural)- wise men to have been of this caste of astrologer-soothsayers. There is also the fact that magos was used referring to the false prophet Elymas (Bar-Jesus) in Acts 13:8. Also, God has at times used the ungodly for His purposes. Yet, that the magoi were sorcerer magicians doesn't sit right with my spirit and the witness of the Holy Spirit concerning the story of the wise men that visited Jesus. Too many Scriptures condemn the practices of the astrologers and sorcerers. There is too much evidence in Scripture of God's eternal displeasure with those that practice such things. God hates all of it! Could there be something else going on that has been ignored for centuries? In my heart, to believe that the magoi that visited Jesus were soothsayers- astrologers sounds like this: “Wait a minute! Do you mean to tell me that astrologers and soothsayers (practitioners of witchcraft or sorcery) came to worship the Messiah because they saw the star of the Messiah-King manifested in the sky? How did they know anything about that prophetic word in Number 24:17? Does that sound right to you? Do you mean to tell me that Joseph and Mary (strict Jewish followers of Torah) would have received heathens from hell that were astrologers, soothsayers, and served false gods? Would they have received myrrh, frankincense, and gold from these pagans?” Knowing something about Judaism in the first century, I would have to say emphatically, “No way Joseph and Mary would have received them!” The first foreign dignitaries to visit the child Jesus were magicians (wizards) and astrologers from Babylon? Yuk! The idea makes me throw up a little in my mouth because I know all those other Scriptures that I gave you above, where God rejects (and detests, hates) all forms of witchcraft and sorcery, including astrology! Scripture should be primarily interpreted with other Scripture. I think the story of the wise men has been interpreted without reference to other Scripture that should have made us reassess our conclusions. That time is here and now! If these magoi were pagan devils, they would never have been received by Joseph or Mary or anybody of the Jewish faith that was present that day. Jews had strict laws concerning receiving pagans into their home or going to visit pagans and coming under their roof. It was considered a violation of the law of Moses. To have received foreign devil worshippers into their home would have defiled them and left them in ritual impurity. Jews did not associate with pagans! Did you know that Jesus' first followers and converts after the day of Pentecost were ONLY Jews and their half-brothers, the Samaritans (Acts 8)? There were no Gentiles among the believers for at least ten years after Pentecost. Read Acts chapters 2-10 as a reference. It took a supernatural vision coming to the apostle Peter in Acts 10 to open the way for salvation and the baptism of the Holy Spirit to be preached to the Gentiles. Until then, it was taken for granted that association with the Gentiles was verboten, and the gospel message was only for Jews. Again, there was a separation of the Jews from pagans until salvation and the Holy Spirit fell on Cornelius and all his house as Peter preached to them. (Acts 10). Ok, if the magoi couldn't have been pagan, astrologer, devil worshippers that came to worship the King Messiah, and I have presented Scriptural evidence that would contradict the notion that they were, what and who were they, and can it be proven? Do you remember that I stated above that The Complete Word Study Dictionary of the Bible says (G3097) that the word is of foreign origin from the Hebrew (H7248)”? H7248 in Brown, Driver, Briggs Hebrew- English Lexicon gives us these foreign words: rab-saris (H7249) and rab-mag. [2] It says these words are of Assyrian or Babylonian influence and “titles of As.-Bab. officers (that) are prob. loan words in Hebrew.” [3] Rab-mag could be a chief soothsayer (and I think that is the point that confused scholars), but BDB states this is equal to rab-mugi (chief of princes). BDB further states that rab-sarisis usually in Babylon chief of eunuchs, but it is equal to rabu-saresi, chief of the heads (the principal men). So, both titles could refer to government dignitaries that had little to nothing to do with astrology-sorcery. Chief of eunuchs (rab-saris) was also a minister or officer of the state, such as a general, governor, or prince. See the reference to the master or prince of eunuchs (sar-saris) [4] responsible for teaching a few selected children of Israel in all the learning and the tongue of Babylon. They (and Daniel was among them) were to be skillful in all wisdom, cunning in knowledge, and understanding science. (See Daniel 1:1-21.) Wow!! Does that not start to make you think differently? Are you beginning to get some light about this? The definitions above from the Brown Driver Briggs Hebrew-English Lexicon of the Old Testament (BDB) leads us to believe that the magoi from the East that came to visit Jesus could have been governmental leaders like the Hebrews that were taken captive by Nebuchadnezzar and later exalted to governmental positions overseeing his realm. Also, note the use of the word rab in the titles of these officials. You will see below why that word is so important. Do you remember that Nebuchadnezzar had a dream he refused to tell the magicians and sorcerers? He wanted someone to tell him the dream AND the interpretation. God gave Daniel the dream and its interpretation, something only God could do. With that supernatural event, proving that Jehovah God was the one and only true God, Nebuchadnezzar exalted Daniel and made him chief (rab) of the governors over all the wise men of Babylon. (Daniel 2:48) It would make perfect sense that these magoi from the East were Hebrew dignitaries from the eastern lands where Babylon and many other cities existed during the time of Jesus. That could satisfy our search. Did you know that there was a robust Hebrew or Jewish presence in those towns and cities of the East? Though the info is relatively sparse compared to other timeframes, some kings, queens, and whole areas seemed to have converted to Judaism. See references to the conversion to Judaism from paganism of the Adiabene kingdom in the first century. In the account of the ancient historian Josephus in his writings the Antiquities of the Jews (Book XX: Chapter 2), it shows that there was a substantial Jewish population in the kingdom. It led to the establishment of a prominent rabbinic academy in Arbela. There were Jews in many cities of the Parthian (Arcesid) empire. One prominent city with many Jews was Babylon. Historically, not all Jews left Babylon after the return to the land of Israel under Ezra and Nehemiah. Synagogues and academies were established in many cities under the Parthian and Armenian Empires. This trend of an increasing Jewish population in the Eastern lands continued for centuries. The largest rabbinical academies were in the East. I am emphasizing that because students of the Scripture in rabbinic schools would have read and understood the prophetic Word about the star of the Messiah-King rising out of the land of Israel. It would have signaled the coming of this Anointed one. The Jews would have sent their most able and learned leaders to investigate the matter. Now, that makes complete spiritual sense to me, especially when you begin to see that the title rab was given to especially gifted rabbinic leaders or chiefs. Rab was the title of the Babylonian sages who taught in the Babylonian Jewish academies. The titles "Rabban" and "Rabbi" (the root word being rab) are first mentioned in first through fifth century Jewish literature in the Mishnah and the Talmud. The term was first used in the Mishnah for Rabban Gamaliel the elder, Rabban Simeon his son, and Rabban Johanan ben Zakkai, all of whom were patriarchs or presidents of the Sanhedrin in the first century. The word rabbi occurs fifteen times in the New Testament (in the NKJV) speaking about Jesus or others. Jesus was called rabbi in the first century, and He was THE Greatest of the Great Rabbis! The root word of rabbi is rab! All that leads me to believe that the magoi were not devil worshipping astrologers, but they were the most honored Jewish religious leaders from the East that knew the prophetic Scripture and came to worship the King-Messiah Jesus! Now that agrees with my heart in the Holy Spirit! That I can believe! I can now understand how the strict Jewish family of Jesus and all the Jews of Bethlehem saw nothing wrong with visiting Jewish religious leaders from the East worshipping the King-Messiah. Joseph and Mary probably felt honored and received with great joy these Jewish leaders among the sages in Babylon! It was all good! Much more info could be included here, but I will let it be for now. Be blessed! Jesus was born to die in our place and to redeem us. That was the purpose of His birth, to get God's Son into a human body! Only a perfect human without sin, the Second and Last Adam, could pay the eternal price for a guilty humanity. It was a great plan, one that changed things forever! Have you ever read my 244 page book, The Story of our Great Redemption? This is the link for the free download of the book! Today's podcast gives you the story of redemption in a nutshell. Be blessed with the Word! Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year! When was the last time you had a 'F*ck it' moment? For Natalie & Daniel, it was quite recently. Having already spent their vacations (that's 'holidays' for us Brits!) in cool places such as Georgia (the country not the state), they decided to change the direction of their life and move to Abu Dhabi. Well, in actual fact, their shortlist was three countries (all very different), but all linked in some way (yep, you'll have to listen to find out which 3). Anyway, fast-forward to 2021, and in this episode, you'll hear all kinds of stories about camels, desert camping, riddles, running in the relentless sun (Daniel's all kinds of crazy) and how it's not actually not that difficult to find a beer in the UAE. Revelation 6:1-8. Everything, with the exception of God Himself, as a beginning. (Psalm 90:2; Hebrews 7:3; Genesis 14:17-20) Each of us and even creation itself, the known universe as we can understand it, has one. (Genesis 1:1) We as humans go through a lot of first's in our lifetime. Our first step, our first word, our first day of school, our first dance, our first kiss, our first broken heart, and the list can go on and on. Well, we know from the scriptures that there is coming another first day. The first day of the Great Tribulation. The first day of the seventieth week of Danial. (See Daniel 9) This first day will be when the first seal is broken by the Lamb of God who is worthy to take the scroll from Him who sits on the throne and loose its seals. Why? Because He gave Himself as the sacrifice for the redemption of all creation. (See Revelation 4 & 5.) Once the seal is broken there is no going back, no starting over. This is the moment that begins the last seven years of history as we know it. Nothing with ever be the same again. Those who abuse the earth and reject God will be judged. (Revelation 11:9) Those loyal to Him during this time will be redeemed, but at a great cost. His love has been made manifest in Jesus and much of the world has rejected him, and so now begins the coming of the judge to make things right and redeem creation from the grips of the dragon. ----- Call us: 208.524.4747 prayer@watersprings.net Online Giving: https://watersprings.net/give.php Serve at Watersprings: https://watersprings.churchcenter.com/people/forms/8221 CCLI Streaming License: 20080252 Size E CCLI Copyright License: 1406906 Size F DISCLAIMER: Closed captioning and/or transcription is being provided solely for the convenience of our viewers. In Daniel 1: 8-21 we see four prisoners of a controlling king. Nebuchadnezzar had plans for these four young men. They would be developed into the king’s dream team. This reigning king made the rules they must follow. Daniel Refused to Follow the King’s Diet. He saw following this diet as self-defilement. Daniel’s decision placed him and his friends in danger. This led to a test to see which diet was best. See Daniel’s message here is about commitment. God should always have first place in our lives.
March 1-7 When that group of 40 or more gathered in the 20 by 30-foot Whitmer cabin that April 6, 1830 to organize the “only true and living church upon the face of the whole earth” (Doctrine and Covenants 1:30), they could not have entirely foreseen what lay ahead for this church that would, as the prophet Daniel said, “roll forth to fill the whole earth” (See Daniel 2: 31-45), but they did know they were about a great work inspired by God Himself. Let’s take you to that scene today.
The Late Great City of Babylon (Isa. 13:2–22)In 626 b.c. the Chaldaean Nabopolassar restored Babylonian gloryby making himself king in Babylon, beginning the Neo-Babyloniandynasty, and participating (with Media) in the defeat of Assyria. Hisson, Nebuchadnezzar II, was the king who conquered and exiled Judah. How did the city of Babylon finally end? (See Daniel 5.)__________________________________________________________________________________________________________In 539 b.c., when Cyrus the Persian captured Babylon for the Medo-Persian Empire (see Daniel 5), the city lost its independence forever. In 482 b.c., Xerxes I brutally suppressed a revolt of Babylon againstPersian rule. He removed the statue of Marduk, the chief god, andapparently damaged some fortifications and temples.Alexander the Great took Babylon from the Persians in 331 b.c. with-out a fight. In spite of his short-lived dream to make Babylon his easterncapital, the city declined over several centuries. By a.d. 198 the Roman,Septimus Severus, found Babylon completely deserted. So, the great citycame to an end through abandonment. Today some Iraqi villagers live onparts of the ancient site, but they have not rebuilt the city as such. The doom of Babylon, described in Isaiah 13, liberates the descen-dants of Jacob, who have been oppressed by Babylon (Isa. 14:1–3). Theevent that accomplished this was the conquest of Babylon by Cyrus in539 b.c. Although he did not destroy the city, this was the beginning ofthe end for Babylon, and it never threatened God’s people again.Isaiah 13 dramatizes the fall of Babylon as a divine judgment. Thewarriors who take the city are God’s agents (Isa. 13:2–5). The timeof judgment is called “the day of the Lord” (Isa. 13:6, 9), and God’sanger is so powerful it affects the stars, sun, moon, heavens, and earth(Isa. 13:10, 13).Compare Judges 5, where the song of Deborah and Barak describesthe Lord as going forth with quaking of the earth and with rain fromthe heavens (Judg. 5:4). Judges 5:20, 21 depicts the elements of nature, including stars, as fighting against the foreign oppressor.Imagine that someone living in Babylon at the height of its glorymight read these words of Isaiah 13, particularly Isaiah 13:19–22. How foolish and impossible they would have seemed! Whatother prophecies, yet unfulfilled, seem foolish and impossible tous now? Why would we be foolish, however, to dismiss them asimpossible?
Revelation 1 (NIV)Prologue1 The revelation from Jesus Christ, which God gave him to show his servants what must soon take place. He made it known by sending his angel to his servant John, 2 who testifies to everything he saw—that is, the word of God and the testimony of Jesus Christ. 3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear it and take to heart what is written in it, because the time is near.Greetings and Doxology4 John,To the seven churches in the province of Asia:Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits[a] before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood, 6 and has made us to be a kingdom and priests to serve his God and Father—to him be glory and power for ever and ever! Amen.7 “Look, he is coming with the clouds,”[b] and “every eye will see him, even those who pierced him”; and all peoples on earth “will mourn because of him.”[c]So shall it be! Amen.8 “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”John's Vision of Christ9 I, John, your brother and companion in the suffering and kingdom and patient endurance that are ours in Jesus, was on the island of Patmos because of the word of God and the testimony of Jesus. 10 On the Lord's Day I was in the Spirit, and I heard behind me a loud voice like a trumpet, 11 which said: “Write on a scroll what you see and send it to the seven churches: to Ephesus, Smyrna, Pergamum, Thyatira, Sardis, Philadelphia and Laodicea.”12 I turned around to see the voice that was speaking to me. And when I turned I saw seven golden lampstands, 13 and among the lampstands was someone like a son of man,[d] dressed in a robe reaching down to his feet and with a golden sash around his chest. 14 The hair on his head was white like wool, as white as snow, and his eyes were like blazing fire. 15 His feet were like bronze glowing in a furnace, and his voice was like the sound of rushing waters. 16 In his right hand he held seven stars, and coming out of his mouth was a sharp, double-edged sword. His face was like the sun shining in all its brilliance.17 When I saw him, I fell at his feet as though dead. Then he placed his right hand on me and said: “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. 18 I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever! And I hold the keys of death and Hades.19 “Write, therefore, what you have seen, what is now and what will take place later. 20 The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels[e] of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.Footnotes:[a] Revelation 1:4 That is, the sevenfold Spirit[b] Revelation 1:7 Daniel 7:13[c] Revelation 1:7 Zech. 12:10[d] Revelation 1:13 See Daniel 7:13.[e] Revelation 1:20 Or messengers

In their exchange of letters, the Thessalonians ask the Apostle Paul the question we all want an answer to, when will the Lord return? Paul teaches them that the Day of the Lord will come unexpectedly and that for Christians, our focus needs to be on making ourselves ready for his appearing, not on dates. He further encourages them that they need not fear the Day of the Lord. For some it will lead to judgment, but for them, it will lead to their full salvation and even greater union with Christ. CG Questions: 1. What does the Old Testament teach about the Day of the Lord? See Daniel 12, Joel 2:21-32; Obadiah 15-21; Zechariah 14:1-21. 2. Why do you think the Thessalonians had anxiety over the Day of the Lord? 3. How is the Day of the Lord going to be similar to the days of Noah? See also Matthew 24. 4. What does Paul exhort the Thessalonians to in vv.6-8? What does it look like for us to live this way? 5. What are the things you can become enchanted with in this world that lead you to live as if this world was your true home? 6. Paul once again references spiritual armor. What does it mean to 'put on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet the hope of salvation'? 7. Share with your community group the verses that give you encouragement and hope when you are afflicted and or grieving. 8. When you encounter suffering, are you tempted to believe it is God's wrath? Is this true? How do you know? 9. It is hard to overstate the emphasis in the New Testament on loving, encouraging and building one another up. Practically, what does this look like? Have you ever intentionally sought to build another up? Have you received this from another? What happens if this is lacking within the church?

In this episode: I have been thinking about writing a Rule of Life in place of annual goal setting (or as a companion to it), and I was first introduced to it in a book by Peter Scazzero. He explains that a Rule of Life is like a trellis on which we train a vine to grow. Having a framework in place helps us to direct how we grow and ultimately helps us flourish. Inspired Life: What is a Rule of Life? I don't love rules. And yet I can't help but follow them. So when I heard of a Rule of Life when I was reading a book, I was a bit skeptical of this thing that sounded legalistic. But it isn't. In this podcast episode, I took a closer look at what it is. A Rule of Life is an alternative to setting goals (or a companion to it). It stems from a tradition of religious orders who had guidelines for how they lived in community—think monks. We can use their example and write our own code of conduct that guides our decisions. Daniel had his own code of conduct—Rule of Life—in the Bible, he just didn't call it that. See Daniel 1 and Daniel 6 for how his practices of prayer and time with God as well as a specific way of eating were included in his non-negotiables, even when his life depended on it. Seriously, he was willing to be thrown in a den of lions rather than break his code. I have been thinking about writing a Rule of Life in place of annual goal setting, and I was first introduced to it in a book by Peter Scazzero, called Emotionally Healthy Spirituality: It's Impossible to Be Spiritually Mature, While Remaining Emotionally Immature (affiliate link). He explains that a Rule of Life is like a trellis on which we train a vine to grow. Having a framework in place helps us to direct how we grow and ultimately helps us flourish. We're all different in how we will live, but Scazzero says this in his book: Our goal is the same: union with God in Christ, transformation into his image, and the freeing of our hearts from anything that stands in the way of Christ living in and through us. How we get there will vary, depending on our personality, gift mix, temperament, geographic location, and particular calling from God. In addition, God will have different practices and emphases at different seasons and phases of our lives. (p 193) A Rule of Life is “an intentional, conscious plan to keep God at the center of everything we do. . . . The starting point and foundation of any Rule is a desire to be with God and to love him” (Scazzero, 196). This is freeing in that it carries from year to year and provides a framework for any goal we set or any commitment we consider making for our time, energy, money, etc. We can filer all of our decisions through our “Rule.” So, I did some additional research to find more resources that would help me write my own. Then I saw it come up in a post from the Gospel Coalition, so it was on my mind again. See the article Peter Scazzero includes these areas when creating a Rule of Life. These are some examples he gives in a worksheet about writing a rule (link below): PRAYER Scripture - meditating on Scripture each day, a reading plan, praying the Psalms, etc. Silence and Solitude – this includes daily silence as well as a possible silent retreat. Daily Prayer – the plan might include prayers planned at times throughout the day. Study – you may want to take a Bible course, read Christian books, or use a Bible study resource for daily study. REST Sabbath –setting apart a 24-hour Sabbath time. Simplicity – this could include uncluttering, clearing time, changing finances, etc. Play and Recreation – this includes finding activities that breathe life in you. WORK/ACTIVITY Service and Mission – this includes using your time, or talents to serve others. Care for the Physical Body – this includes sleep, exercise, and diet. RELATIONSHIPS Emotional Health – journaling, counseling, group connections are all included here Family – this includes growth to be a better spouse, parent, child, sibling.

Eyes To See --- Daniel Chua by The City, Singapore
There were three men in the bible whose faith was tested and they ended up in the fire. Literally -- they were in the fire. But God was with them. See Daniel, chapter 3. Blog: http://insharonsheart.blogspot.com/2018/02/the-fire-wont-burn-you.html?m=1
[From ws17/12 p. 3 – January 29-February 4] “Our friend has fallen asleep, but I am traveling there to awaken him.”—John 11:11. A rare article that sticks to what the Bible says without introducing doctrines of men. All in all, an encouraging review of historical resurrections to give us faith in the future resurrection. Of course, the subtext to this article is that the attendees at this week's Watchtower Study will be thinking only of an earthly resurrection for themselves. It is the only hope offered to them in the publications. In fact, JW theology teaches three resurrections, not the two that Jesus and Paul referred to at John 5:28, 29 and Acts 24:15. Besides the earthly resurrection of the unrighteous, they teach two resurrections of the righteous—one to heaven and another to earth. So according to the Organization, Daniel will be resurrected to imperfect, sinful life on earth as part of the earthly resurrection of the righteous while Lazarus, as one of the anointed who died after Jesus, will be resurrected to immortal heavenly life. A discussion of the nature of the heavenly resurrection can wait until another, more opportune occasion. For now, the question that concerns us is whether there is reason to believe that Daniel and Lazarus will share in the same resurrection or not. The basis for the belief of Jehovah’s Witnesses is that only those who died after the death of Jesus can lay claim to the heavenly hope, since the spirit of adoption was only poured out on them. Faithful servants, like Daniel, cannot expect that resurrection, having died prior to the outpouring of redemptive Holy Spirit. This is the only basis for this belief, and it should be noted that there is nothing explicitly stated in Scripture to support it. It is a deduction based on the premise that the adoption of sons cannot be applied retroactively, nor given to dead people. Perhaps another reason for this belief is that the Organization limits the number of those getting the heavenly reward to 144,000; a number that would surely have already been reached by the time Jesus walked the earth, if we are to include all the faithful servants from Abel down to Jesus’ day. (There were 7,000 alone in the day of Elijah—Romans 11:2-4) Of course, the premise that Jehovah cannot pour out his Holy Spirit of adoption on dead people ignores the Bible truth that to Him, his faithful servants are not dead! “‘I am the God of Abraham and the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob’. He is the God, not of the dead, but of the living.” (Mt 22:32) Another indication that the pre-Christian servants of God will join with the disciples of Jesus in the kingdom of the heavens is given by Christ when he says: “But I tell YOU that many from eastern parts and western parts will come and recline at the table with Abraham and Isaac and Jacob in the kingdom of the heavens; 12 whereas the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the darkness outside.” (Mt 8:11, 12) And then we have the transfiguration. Some of his disciples bore witness to a transfiguration in which Jesus was seen coming in his kingdom with Moses and Elijah. How could that apparition reflect the true nature of the kingdom of the heavens if Moses and Elijah are not to take part in it along with the Apostles? This article has unwittingly provided us with one more proof of this. Martha refers to the same time period as the angel did who reassured Daniel of his reward. The message to the prophet Daniel continued: “You will stand up for your lot at the end of the days.” – par. 18 (See Daniel 12:13) Martha clearly had reason to be confident that her faithful brother, Lazarus, would “rise in the resurrection on the last day.” The promise given to Daniel, as well as the certainty reflected in Martha’s reply to Jesus, should reassure Christians today. There will be a resurrection. – par. 19 (See John 11:24) There are two resurrections. The first occurs at the end of the system of thing...

Revelation 13 (NIV)The Beast out of the Sea1 The dragon[a] stood on the shore of the sea. And I saw a beast coming out of the sea. It had ten horns and seven heads, with ten crowns on its horns, and on each head a blasphemous name. 2 The beast I saw resembled a leopard, but had feet like those of a bear and a mouth like that of a lion. The dragon gave the beast his power and his throne and great authority. 3 One of the heads of the beast seemed to have had a fatal wound, but the fatal wound had been healed. The whole world was filled with wonder and followed the beast. 4 People worshiped the dragon because he had given authority to the beast, and they also worshiped the beast and asked, “Who is like the beast? Who can wage war against it?”5 The beast was given a mouth to utter proud words and blasphemies and to exercise its authority for forty-two months. 6 It opened its mouth to blaspheme God, and to slander his name and his dwelling place and those who live in heaven. 7 It was given power to wage war against God's holy people and to conquer them. And it was given authority over every tribe, people, language and nation. 8 All inhabitants of the earth will worship the beast—all whose names have not been written in the Lamb's book of life, the Lamb who was slain from the creation of the world.[b]9 Whoever has ears, let them hear.10 “If anyone is to go into captivity, into captivity they will go.If anyone is to be killed[c] with the sword, with the sword they will be killed.”[d]This calls for patient endurance and faithfulness on the part of God's people. The Beast out of the Earth11 Then I saw a second beast, coming out of the earth. It had two horns like a lamb, but it spoke like a dragon. 12 It exercised all the authority of the first beast on its behalf, and made the earth and its inhabitants worship the first beast, whose fatal wound had been healed. 13 And it performed great signs, even causing fire to come down from heaven to the earth in full view of the people. 14 Because of the signs it was given power to perform on behalf of the first beast, it deceived the inhabitants of the earth. It ordered them to set up an image in honor of the beast who was wounded by the sword and yet lived. 15 The second beast was given power to give breath to the image of the first beast, so that the image could speak and cause all who refused to worship the image to be killed. 16 It also forced all people, great and small, rich and poor, free and slave, to receive a mark on their right hands or on their foreheads, 17 so that they could not buy or sell unless they had the mark, which is the name of the beast or the number of its name.18 This calls for wisdom. Let the person who has insight calculate the number of the beast, for it is the number of a man.[e] That number is 666.Footnotes:Revelation 13:1 Some manuscripts And IRevelation 13:8 Or written from the creation of the world in the book of life belonging to the Lamb who was slainRevelation 13:10 Some manuscripts anyone killsRevelation 13:10 Jer. 15:2Revelation 13:18 Or is humanity's numberRevelation 14 (NIV)The Lamb and the 144,0001 Then I looked, and there before me was the Lamb, standing on Mount Zion, and with him 144,000 who had his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. 2 And I heard a sound from heaven like the roar of rushing waters and like a loud peal of thunder. The sound I heard was like that of harpists playing their harps. 3 And they sang a new song before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders. Worship him who made the heavens, the earth, the sea and the springs of water.”8 A second angel followed and said, “‘Fallen! Fallen is Babylon the Great,'[a] which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.”9 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.” 12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus.13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.”“Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.”Harvesting the Earth and Trampling the Winepress14 I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man[b] with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” 16 So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.17 Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 18 Still another angel, who had charge of the fire, came from the altar and called in a loud voice to him who had the sharp sickle, “Take your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from the earth's vine, because its grapes are ripe.” 19 The angel swung his sickle on the earth, gathered its grapes and threw them into the great winepress of God's wrath. 20 They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses' bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.[c]Footnotes:Revelation 14:8 Isaiah 21:9Revelation 14:14 See Daniel 7:13.Revelation 14:20 That is, about 180 miles or about 300 kilometers

Fallen is Babylon the Great,'[a] which made all the nations drink the maddening wine of her adulteries.” 9 A third angel followed them and said in a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and its image and receives its mark on their forehead or on their hand, 10 they, too, will drink the wine of God's fury, which has been poured full strength into the cup of his wrath. They will be tormented with burning sulfur in the presence of the holy angels and of the Lamb. 11 And the smoke of their torment will rise for ever and ever. There will be no rest day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, or for anyone who receives the mark of its name.” 12 This calls for patient endurance on the part of the people of God who keep his commands and remain faithful to Jesus. 13 Then I heard a voice from heaven say, “Write this: Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord from now on.” “Yes,” says the Spirit, “they will rest from their labor, for their deeds will follow them.” Harvesting the Earth and Trampling the Winepress 14 I looked, and there before me was a white cloud, and seated on the cloud was one like a son of man[b] with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15 Then another angel came out of the temple and called in a loud voice to him who was sitting on the cloud, “Take your sickle and reap, because the time to reap has come, for the harvest of the earth is ripe.” 16 So he who was seated on the cloud swung his sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested. 17 Another angel came out of the temple in heaven, and he too had a sharp sickle. 20 They were trampled in the winepress outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press, rising as high as the horses' bridles for a distance of 1,600 stadia.[c] Footnotes: Revelation 14:8 Isaiah 21:9 Revelation 14:14 See Daniel 7:13. Revelation 1:4-20 (NIV)Greetings and Doxology1 John,To the seven churches in the province of Asia:Grace and peace to you from him who is, and who was, and who is to come, and from the seven spirits[a] before his throne, 5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. 20 The mystery of the seven stars that you saw in my right hand and of the seven golden lampstands is this: The seven stars are the angels[e] of the seven churches, and the seven lampstands are the seven churches.Footnotes:Revelation 1:4 That is, the sevenfold SpiritRevelation 1:7 Daniel 7:13Revelation 1:7 Zech. 12:10Revelation 1:13 See Daniel 7:13.Revelation 1:20 Or messengers
