Episode 205 – Dragons Rule the World Special Conditions is back! After a longer-than-planned break, Adam and Justin catch up on what's been happening in Pokémon, collecting, card shows, and life before diving into a huge weekend for the Pokémon TCG. Adam jumps back into competitive play at a local Worlds Celebration event and immediately walks away with the win using Garchomp. We break down the deck, why Unfair Stamp was so effective, some of the matchups he faced, and how a last-minute Switch inclusion literally saved the tournament. Then it's time for the 2026 Pokémon World Championships. We talk about Dragapult's continued grip on the format, some of the more interesting decks and plays we caught during the weekend, the difference between watching Dragapult and the slower formats of the past, and some of what PokémonXP brought to the Worlds experience. Plus, Justin catches everyone up on his recent Star Wars costuming adventures, Adam opens a pile of Prize Packs, and Adam's Vending Corner returns with lessons from another month of card shows—including why being the vendor who can find someone's random 13-cent reverse holo might be more rewarding than selling the expensive card. Question for the listeners: If you had played in the 2026 Pokémon World Championships, what deck would you have brought?

Happy Pot Luck Saturday! Chipped beef on toast, scalloped potatoes with the cornflake crunch, Pong, and the Trash-80. We're firing up the home computer and video game boom of the '70s and '80s. We talk Atari, Intellivision, Commodore 64, Apple II, Nintendo, Pac-Man, Pitfall, stacks of quarters at the arcade, and the infamous E.T. game. Plus, why the watered-down games at home made the arcade that much more exciting. We talk about word processors, electric typewriters, scientific calculators, handheld football games, old-school cash registers, and the simple joy of pushing a button and hearing that click. Then it's broken joysticks on Christmas morning, toys without batteries, and the bleak day-after-Christmas return line. It's a Pot Luck Saturday with Trash-80s, Atari cartridges, computer clubs, retro toys, Pac-Man, Dig Dug, Donkey Kong, and a time when Pong really was enough. We'll Talk Shawtly! Lured Up Podcast 406 - Happy Trails Live Streamed on - 8/26/2026 Listen to this episode ad free on Patreon! https://www.patreon.com/PokemonProfessor When the pacing of the game is nonstop, even a slow down feels like a break. While we had the wrap up of the Water Festival, the kickoff of the Worlds event and Mega Starmie over the weekend, we still know that the road to the finale is upon us. We will be swimming in events and activity over the next few weeks, so it's time to prepare both on and off screen. The news cycle never cares about how exhausted we are with the announcement of the next season in Pokémon GO, Twilight Trails! While we have the key art and a few bits of information, it will likely be a few weeks before we can really start to get the vibe of things. It brings up the discussion of the importance of seasons, and if they are necessary to the game anymore. We don't really see any narrative, and the events just flow into each other. We would love to hear what you think about seasons and what you want out of them. Wayfarer is having a major update that moves it further to being an independent tool outside of Pokémon GO. Beginning on September 1st, you will be taken to the Wayfarer Website to manage nominations and all of Wayfarer, rather than remaining inside of Pokémon GO. The reaction is mixed, with more casual Wayfinders being reluctant to want to move, and the experienced map-makers loving the decision. We wrap up with a Professor's Principle about “Protecting your peace”. There are plenty of things within the game and community that can have an impact on your mental state. We see tons of anger and negativity online every day. That has a negative impact on your peace, as it drains some energy out of you that could have been used for something positive. We discuss how finding things that being you joy while letting go of things that drain you is a fantastic approach to shifting your energy. Rather than needing to find more energy (we are already exhausted), we talk about releasing energy that we are spending in a negative way, and reallocating it to something that supports your joy and peace. Join Tricky, Matt, Alex and Yield as they discuss, among other things, Assassin’s Creed Brotherhood, LEGO Horizon Adventures, Split Fiction, and Horizon Huntes Gathering. What’s more, we delve into Nintendo’s perpetual battle against emulation, and we broach the continuous issue of rising RAM prices. And if you think that’s all, then you’ve got another thing coming! Leakers, or leekers, have gotten to Grand Theft Auto VI. Yep! It’s apparently out there. Where? Why are you asking us? Take-Two Interactive has responded with subpoeanas, so you can bet things are getting nasty. As usual, the news is full of surprises. We hit the high notes, and we hit the low notes, but we’ll always bring the banter. What are you waiting for? Dive in! As always, the opinions fly fast and heavy! Look out for this super-sized show, as the seemingly smallest conversation veers off into a multiverse of chit-chat. Sounds cool, huh? Welcome back to Not A Bomb, the podcast where we resurrect cinema's most infamous box office disasters and ask the burning question: is it a bomb? This week, Troy and Brad grab their Power Gloves, hop in a stolen truck, and hit the road with 1989's Nintendo-powered adventure, The Wizard. On the surface, The Wizard is a movie about a troubled young boy with an incredible talent for video games who runs away from home with his brother and heads across the country toward the biggest video game competition in America. But underneath the cartridges, Game Boys, Nintendo Power magazines, and what might be the most famous Power Glove in cinematic history, there is actually a pretty solid road movie trying desperately to escape.Troy and Brad dig into the strange mix of family drama, cross-country adventure, and shameless corporate advertising that makes The Wizard such a fascinating artifact of late 1980s cinema. Somewhere in this movie is a genuinely interesting Beau Bridges and Christian Slater road movie about a father and son trying to reconnect while chasing their runaway family across the country. Unfortunately, that movie keeps getting interrupted by Nintendo reminding everyone that Super Mario Bros. 3 exists.Of course, no discussion of The Wizardwould be complete without talking about its legendary product placement. This is a movie that does not gently incorporate Nintendo into its story. Nintendo basically grabs the steering wheel, drives the movie into the nearest electronics store, and tells everyone to look at the Power Glove. But somehow, despite being one of the most obvious feature-length advertisements ever made, The Wizard has developed a nostalgic charm that is hard to deny.Want to help support the show?
