What is the “dragonbear”? It is a metophor of an emerging strategic alliance between Russia and China. In this episdoe, Julie Yu-Wen Chen talks to geostrategist Velina Tchakarova about the dragonbear in the geopolitics of the 21st century. What does the Dragonbear really aim to achieve in global affairs? First and foremost, it is about counterbalancing arising centrifugal forces in all fields — from economy, finance, trade, diplomacy, to military, defense and strategic alliances. But it also has a lot to do with Russia and China's overlapping understanding that the world is in a system transformation, whose results are unpredictable and whose implications might be very dangerous for them. Velina Tchakarova's previous position as the Director of the Austrian Institute for European and Security Policy (AIES) in Vienna is marked by profound contributions to understanding the geopolitical domain and its implications for various sectors. In her current consulting firm, FACE For A Conscious Experience, Velina leverages her broad network and practical experience as a geopolitical strategist to deliver tailored solutions, helping the public and private sector adeptly navigate the complex geopolitical terrain. In this episode, Velina Tchakarova articulates that the unpredictable trajectory of Russia's war against Ukraine may force Putin to align Russia more closely with China's geopolitical and geoeconomic interests, increasing dependencies within the dragonbear modus. Julie Yu-Wen Chen is Professor of Chinese Studies at the Department of Cultures at the University of Helsinki (Finland) and visiting professor at the Research Institute for Languages and Cultures of Asia at Mahidol University (Thailand).

Velina went through it! Concludiamo questa preve intro con una cit. di Brittany S.: “ Don't you know that you're toxic?!” Buon ascolto!

EP22 Happy 1 Year Anniversary! We made it team! HAPPY HALLOWEEN! In this episode, we find Brittany and Velina reunited as they 'whine while we wine'. They both get way too drunk and waffle on about Talk-a-lot-Taskov's return to North America as a refugee, shenanigans in Seattle, and Halloween costumes. Cockroach Brittany has decided that curbside can fuck right off as the girls discuss the changes and challenges with the ongoing pandemic. They recap their week, covering topics such as cat leg amputations, emergencies that aren't emergencies, and the classic pounds vs kilos conversation. Velina Hasu Houston, Playwright and Professor, child of a Japanese Mother and African American Father, was born on a United States Military Ship sitting in contested waters. All her life she has had that sense of fluid borders. Velina was raised in a small town in Kansas, middle America in every way, and at a young age announced that she wanted to write. Navigating through a society that more often searched to give her a fixed identity and limit her ambitions, she rejected that characterization and in spite of discouraging advice, went on to garner awards for playwriting and a Distinguished Professor designation at the University of Southern California (USC) School of Dramatic Arts. Velina discusses the many sided ways of looking at identity, how her famous play, TEA is a homage to her Mother and her life in Kansas, as a Japanese immigrant woman, and muses about what identity means today as the world changes in the 21st century. Dr. Velina Hasu Houston's play, TEA, is available from Dramatist's Play Service on its website.
EP21 Recorded in April 2021, in this episode Velina and Brittany 'whine while we wine' with super surgeon Dr. Jock! Sadly our hosts have some sound quality issues (AGAIN) and it's not just coz Velina is a few stubbies short of a six-pack and sings Brittany a song. (best to listen with earphones) The girls cackle along as Jock opens up about the time she discovered she doesn't know shit about "non-Mexican walking fish" (The Axolotl) Brittany thinks she is famous and quickly discovers despite her newfound fame she is still non-essential. Vent-a-lot-Velina strikes again as she laments over clients emotionally blackmailing her and her relationship with the Popo. Jock shares her wisdom with us about numerous topics; ectopic ureters, handling dangerous clients, using Vietnamese in consults and making mistakes. The girls giggle way too much in this episode so join in the fun and email us ikilledyourdogpodcast@gmail.com or follow us on insta @ikilledyourdogpodcast Music Credit: Bliss n Eso - Family Affair (2010)
EP 20 It's been a while since our latest episode but after some sound quality setbacks we have returned to our favourite state... tired after a shift and drinking our despondency away. Brittany sounds far away in this episode, because she is! Our guest this week is Dr Lan and she openly admits to being a clinic slut. (Working at different clinics, get your mind out of the wet sink!) The girls touch base on many topics such as Lan's adventure as a vet in the UK, covering the most important UK topic of all, tea and biscuits. We also discuss UK labs vs American labs, foxes, the mark of the beast and Lan's accidental racist clients. Lan continues to delight us with stories of Australian vetting; Goannas and Snake bite cases followed by messy euth stories. Velina vents about her triage woes as Lan learns a "new" way of healing conjunctivitis in dogs. As always the girls have a new beverage to soothe their stories, this week we have "cow piss" AKA a Soju cocktail. Laura answers caller Velina's question about her family's relocation to Texas.

"The Black Woman Is God," curated by Karen Seneferu is at the Sargent Johnson Gallery in SF, CA through May 30, 2013. A self-taught artist that grew up in Oakland, California, receiving her BA in English from University of California, Berkeley she will speak about her interest in how individuals can be a part of mainstream society and maintain cultural integrity. In her academic hat Karen created a program that removed fear and anxiety for Foundational students called Take Flight at Berkeley City College. At the center of the program was the idea that narrative is art and art is narrative. Senferu's artwork is also a cross section of her teaching.
