On the latest episode of Attitudeable, I had the absolute pleasure of interviewing Megan Miller, a passionate Spanish learner, educator, and founder of Aprovechar Language Solutions — live! What a great time we shared!Megan is the brilliant author behind a must-read book for Spanish learners that goes beyond grammar and vocabulary. Her approach is warm, empowering, and rooted in real-life communication. In our conversation, she shared what inspired her to write the book, how she built her company from the ground up, and why language learning is about so much more than just mastering tenses. She really nailed this!If you're a language lover, translator, educator, or lifelong learner, this episode is for you. Megan brings insight, heart, and a dose of fun to everything she does—and I know you'll love her energy as much as I did :))))
In October 2024 I had the pleasure of meeting Cecilia Lipovsek at the ATA Annual Conference in Portland, Oregon, United States. Cecy came a long way from London where she has been living for many, many years. Cecilia shares her journey into becoming a diplomatic interpreter and all her way from Buenos Aires, Argentina to London. She shares with us what inspired her to pursue this unique and specialized field of interpretation. There are some skills which are essential for someone aspiring to excel in the business of interpretation, in particular in diplomatic settings. The author and interpreter explains how to prepare and all the challenges she had to face, and how have she overcome them. In her book Jump, she emphasizes personal growth and professional leaps. This is something we all do in a way, however not always successfully. Her own philosophy translates into building a successful career in interpretation. Throughout the pages, I really loved the Four Pillars! My fav is to Plan your Journey. I too often fail in that first step... Please listen to this interview to learn the favorite one by the author herself! Then, comes her book Welcome. There Cecilia talks about thriving in the communications world. Many interpreters focus solely on their craft. How important is it for interpreters to develop business acumen, and what are some strategies they can use to grow their practice according to Cecy? In diplomatic interpretation, cultural nuances are often as important as language skills. How do you balance linguistic precision with cultural sensitivity in your work? Thanks so much dear Cecy for inspiring us and many future generations to come to make the leap and move out of our confort zones! ¡Gracias Cecy! National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Translators and Interpreters in Education As the educational interpreting and translation professions in the United States mature and evolve, it is essential to create a clear, shared understanding of research-based, relevant, and ethically appropriate principles and practices. To define and guide ethical behavior, AAITE followed a formal research process to obtain data about the critical ethical situations professional interpreters and translators in education face daily. To make this document accessible to all, in addition to selecting the ethical principles, we created standards of practice, each with accompanying examples, to clarify the scope of ethical behavior. This work is a labor of love that expresses our profound respect for those whom we serve as well as for those who work in thissetting. CULTURE cannot be separated from language. Language carries the values, beliefs, customs, and societal norms of the culture it comes from. The ways in which people express themselves, the words they use, their idioms and metaphors, all reflect the unique aspects of their cultural identity. The National Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice for Translators and Interpreters in Education are the result of a four-year effort and thousands of hours of work conducted by a group of dedicated volunteers. This effort is a foundational step in AAITE's mission of contributing to the professionalization of the fields of educational interpreting and translation. To achieve this goal in a structured and organized manner, the Ethics and Standards Committee defined the following 11-step development process. Let us all elevate the professional recognition of Translators and Interpreters working in education! The final goal is to develop a National Certification. What are the standards and expectations? More than nine years ago, I received at the door of my home in Argentina Martina´s amazing Decals directly from Italy, which I pasted in my computer: TRANSLATOR AT WORK - These were the words imprinted whenever I travel, go to a cafe store or just move around while working. Martina is a creative spirit. She is the CEO and founder at The Action Sports Translator. After starting her career in marketing translation in 2010 and launching a successful software localization agency a few years later, she was horrified at the quality of multilingual content in the outdoor industry and started TAST to fill a clear gap in the market. TAST is the world's first and only full-scale translation agency for the outdoor industry, providing brands with a sports translation service that truly gets them. She is recognized as a localization industry influencer multiple years in a row and co-founder and localization manager at Protect Our Winters Italy. Thanks for all your high-standard contributions! In this conversation, she shares her passions, her processes, and the way life unfolds for her career. She needs movements, changes to feel motivated. Martina is a digital nomad in love with her business and her life. And it shows! We have to deeply understand customer emotions and perspectives. This is an imperative in today´s world. In the book Thinking Fast and Slow, the author and economist Daniel Kahneman found that upwards of 90% of human decisions are guided by emotions over pure logic. Martina emphasizes that this is also very depending on culture. Language and culture have to live very well together for messages to motivate and inspire the reader. How video subtitling came into her business? The way she began working with that and the power of a team! She supervises many people, almost 21, all online, working from different parts of the world. Please listen to this episode and learn more of this fascinating guest! Thanks Martina for making time to talk to us today! Today we are going to talk about what is a Content marketer. As I have been working extensively in the Marketing field as a Language Specialist, I met Lee Densmer in some webinars, and had a very insightful chat with her. Lee is a Content Creator, Entrepreneur, and the owner of GLOBIA Content Marketing, that she founded in March of 2023. Her mission, as she describes herself, is to help people keep it simple so they can execute and keep it organized so it can be fun and not stressful. Our clients need to find peace of mind, order, and organization to move forward with their content. Her education is in writing, teaching, and linguistics, with Spanish studies in liberal arts. Her work experience is in project management, client services management, and marketing. She has more than 25 years of experience in the language services industry, which is all about translation, interpretation, and technology like machine and AI translation. Localization is about customizing EVERYTHING for your target market and making sure it meets their needs, doesn't offend them, and reaches them emotionally so they want to do business with your brand. This work is rooted in a thorough understanding of local customer needs, interests and preferences (i.e. do your research). Software localization and engineering is also highly technical—worth hiring a pro. This is the job of an expert together with the Linguist to craft the best result. Listen to this Podcast episode or watch us in YouTube to find out the relevance of Style Guides, not only the preparation and writing of them, but the practical application. You have to teach how to put them into practice. Also, why Content Audits are so important before launching your Content Strategy. Lee is the author of many fascinating blog posts, and a fully packed weekly newsletter. Visit her website where B2B enterprises get tips, insights, and practical advice on how to connect with their global customers through relevant, impactful content. Our content needs to reach the soul of our clients. She recommends the book by Nataly Kelly Take your Company Global, and The Content Chemistry: The Illustrated Handbook for Content Marketing by Andy Crestodina, who is the co-founder and the Strategic Director of Orbit Media, an award-winning web design company in Chicago. He is also a top-rated speaker at marketing conferences around the country. We are very optimistic about the future of Content Marketing. The latest neuroscience studies on our brain suggest that every time we switch tasks (what we might traditionally call multi-tasking), it's "expensive" for us in terms of lost time and productivity. For example, have you ever been in a Zoom meeting and tried to write an email or send a message at the same time? We might not think that this is a big deal, but over the course of a day the cumulative effect is that we lose around 40 percent of our productivity. If we are trying to do a complicated task that requires concentration, it means we're more likely to make errors and lose even more time in the switching process. Be laser focused, and remind yourself of the mantra of Chris Lovett today: Less busy, more impact. Contrary to what the world wants to impose and rule, being always busy is not a good sign of progress, of moving forward. Bård Borch Michalsen has worked as a journalist and editor in several Norwegian newspapers. He now teaches professional communication at UiT / The Arctic University of Norway. With the art of printing, reading books moved from being an act meant to be performed by priests and other authorities into an individual, even private, activity. This change helped spark the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution. And punctuation played an important role: As long as texts were read out loud by experts only there was no use for punctuation to mark pauses, full stops or questions. And thus, the author holds punctuation - the period, the comma, the exclamation mark, the question mark and the semicolon – helped shape modern day Europe as we know it. Signs of Civilization tells this rich cultural history of punctuation. It also provides a practical introduction to the rules of punctuation, adapted to our digital age. 'Punctuation is not only an important part of our language code; an advanced system of punctuation has been a driving force in our entire Western Civilisation. Nothing less.' With the invention of printing, reading books moved from being an act only performed by priests and aristocrats into an individual, even private, activity. This change helped spark the Renaissance, the Reformation, the Enlightenment and the Industrial Revolution - in which punctuation played a crucial role. As long as texts were read out loud only by an educated elite there was no need for punctuation to mark pauses, full stops or questions. So punctuation - the full stop, the comma, the exclamation mark, the question mark and the semicolon - helped shape modern-day Europe as we know it. The author´s axiom is the latin phrase. ATTITUDEABLE TURNS 1 year!!! I am grateful for my family and friends, especially to my eldest son Juan who inspired me to open this space. And continuously helps me throughout this journey. After two years as the HOST of the Podcast of the Spanish Language Division of the ATA (American Translators Association) I challenged myself to open my own podcast. Though I have been a long-time podcast fan and advocate, I was really nervous as a Translator who is more familiar with the written world… On purpose, as I told Dani (Deini) Of the latest guest invited to the show, I began this amazing space. I wanted to share with my audience this transformation in this new era. So, the challenge began! The pandemic moved us to be transformed, to keep on growing, evolving and learning, a process of learning to be more open and flexible. So, I interviewed almost 30 inspiring trailblazers, authors and heroes from all around the world. And in this path, I grew in my creative process as a professional communicator, translator and cultural consultant working for clients with different backgrounds and needs. ATTITUDEABLE was officially launched on May 27, 2020, just in the middle of a total lockdown here in Argentina. However, the hard work began many months before. I learnt a lot, I got inspired by the fabulous guests who accepted to participate and were willing to generously share their own careers and experiences. My deepest gratitude to everyone and each one of them. This new YEAR begins with two channels: ONE IN ENGLISH and ONE IN SPANISH. So, tune in at ATTITUDEABLE podcast at your favorite platform and you will listen to all the English conversations. This also has its own YouTube channel. And in Spanish, ATTITUDEABLE en español for the conversations in that language. Same name for the YouTube channel. This birthday party finds us again in full lockdown. Spirits are still high! We remain hopeful, and we know for sure that the best way to predict the future is to create it. COMMUNICATE & BE ATTITUDEABLE THANKS FOR LISTENING!
Dani Saveker has been developing a process and framework to help make sense of business, family, relationships, and life ever since she was part of her family's business; a business she closed after 106 years in 2009. While this was originally for her own benefit, and to help her own family, it has helped change and make sense of people's lives in all sorts of situations – from children to entrepreneurs and from executive teams to those going through life struggles/decisions such as divorce and retirement. As a result, GLAS was created. GLAS means Global Life Alignment System. As the CEO and Founder of GLAS Group she explains how she practices the method every day. GLAS is a living system comprising of 15 elements and a range of tools and techniques, one of which being Visual Perception Analysis (VPA). VPA provides a creative way of unlocking unconscious beliefs and the things that are in the way in a non threatening, fun and fascinating way – using science. In this episode, Evi talks to us about her experience writing her amazing book, a best-seller already and the ATTITUDE you need to thrive and be successful today. Congrats! Dr. Evi Prokopi is a Success Coach. She is a multicultural expert, having lived in six countries, traveled to 35 countries, and worked with people from 58 countries. As a Certified Work Performance Assessor and an NLP Coach, Evi wants to empower people and help them achieve their personal and professional goals. She holds a Ph.D. in Philosophical Psychology, an MA in Marketing, a BA in Applied Linguistics, an Associate's Degree in Project Management and she has attended various online courses. Evi is a founding member and the President of Diexodos, the first anti-bullying organization in Greece. "Our ATTITUDE is by a large percentage, which leads us to success or failure, thus we need to RETRAIN our mind in order to achieve success & happiness, as long as this is what we want. Dr. Evi Prokopi Dr. Evi´s book, The Success PlayBook, The 8 Habits of Happy & Successful People begins with Ancient Greek Philosophy as an introduction. According to Socrates, we are happy if we can truly appreciate what we have instead of striving to get more and more. He said: "The secret to happiness is not found in seeking more, but in developing the capacity to enjoy less." Your values and motivation. She describes values as principles that we consider important in life. They are little voices in our heads saying "that is right" or "absolutely not". Identify your values and ask yourself: what type of person do I want to be? Live your values! The author also shares with us that in the survey conducted based on psychological theories analyzed, she found that only 70% of the people interviewed thought that being healthy is a success. This was done before the Corona Virus Pandemic. So, imagine, would people now feel the same about being well and healthy? Join our new Reading Club & grab a copy of her book! It's not just a way to help your audience remember an important presentation or make you a more engaging job applicant. Those are both excellent uses of business storytelling, but they're hardly the only ones. Matthew is an expert and has done tons of research on AI and all its developments. I was lucky to meet him at the beginning of 2020. A friend of ours, Jorge, organized a Conference in WeWork Buenos Aires. My Gosh! This seems ages ago due to the Pandemic and the endless days we are all facing all over the world. Together with his wife @Heather Wilde and a group of super technological trailblazers they were returning from The Antarctic Conference and made a stop in Buenos Aires, just before leaving for the United States. The talks were amazing. You can find the link below to watch and listen to them. Matthew speaks on AI in different parts, you can find him in Pluralsight, Udemy, among many more online places. Though we are all living in an AI dominant environment, with plenty of technology all around, there is a lot to do as humans. Do not get discouraged. Your touch, your human touch cannot be done, yet, by a machine. Tune in at your favorite platform! Let us all learn from Matthew. If you like this, please share this episode with your friends. Somos vulnerables y no perfectos. Gabby is currently working as a Director of Technology at VMLY&R. Gabby's found a place where she can do both while supporting major clients. The common thread across all of her work has been creative problem solving and learning from incredible teams. She knows the tremendous amounts of processes her industry needs, and barely implements them. She talks about how to remove obstacles and make time for doing what we really, really love. Tidiness provides structure, certainty, you will be happier and more productive. Clean up your closets, and clean up your paperwork. Do not put off the managing of what causes you frustration. She recreates processes every six months. As life happens, and processes need to evolve with that. Watch her and try to put into practice some of her tips. Driving Leaders from Adversity to Advantage to Ambition Learn How to Stay Ambitious During the Challenging Times! This is the latest book on MINDSPEED and the ways to use our minds BETTER. The author delights us with her thought-provoking ideas and ways to FOCUS and make great use of our time, and minds. Ayesha Bibha has been researching on the relationship between neuroscience and leadership for a long time. She calls it Neuro-Leadership. In March 2019, she delivered a TED Talk that our brain works the way we want to. This VUCA world needs true leaders fully engaged and committed to their purpose. It has become a trendy managerial acronym: VUCA, short for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity, and a catchall for “Hey, it's crazy out there!” It's also misleading: VUCA conflates four distinct types of challenges that demand four distinct types of responses. That makes it difficult to know how to approach a challenging situation and easy to use VUCA as a crutch, a way to throw off the hard work of strategy and planning—after all, you can't prepare for a VUCA world, right? Actually, you can. Here is a guide to identifying, getting ready for, and responding to events in each of the four VUCA categories. Follow us! In this episode, I am delighted to welcome Mr. Hans Harry Bittner. Harry is the HR Manager, CEO of Bittner International Training, an internationally operating training and consulting network. Harry supports decision makers and managers from various industries and cultures. He builds content-related and personal bridges between experts from all parts of the company by constructively activating the existing diversity of individuals and teams for the benefit of the organization towards a sustainable shaping of the future. To this end, Harry is delivering master lectures at universities and license courses for the practical use of scientific instruments like GPOP (MBTI types and stress), ARP (Authority, Responsibility and Power), Creatrix (Risk Taking, Creativity and Innovation nurturing with resiliency, authenticity, self-efficacy, uniqueness, self-acceptance, volition and trust) and CAS (Change Acceleration System). Harry focuses on people, teams and organizational development with a practical transfer of knowledge from innovative approaches to everyday work. In addition to the focal points of sales, service, customer orientation and leadership, Harry helps with real project advice and work, with solid and qualified manpower to detox organizations and build cultures of trust according to the Great Place to Work Principles. Over all, the development and promotion of innovative health concepts (healthy leadership, stress management, burnout prevention) is always a part of Harry's activities. In this insightful conversation, Harry shares with us the importance of taking care and protecting ourselves from bad news and looking more inside us. His leadership approach focuses not in glorifying something extraordinary. We cannot compare our lives with Mahatma Gandhi or big leaders from history. We have to focus on ourselves. We fail and then get up back again. Fail fast and go ahead with the learning. You never lose, you only win or learn. That is the ATTITUDE he recommends us to embrace. Mistakes are something we learn the most of. Do not be desperate for your performance. If you want security, you lose a little bit of freedom and fun in life. Take little steps! Take care of the garden you live in. Just try with your own garden, at your speed. It is your life. Write a diary. Concentrate on positive & fun making things. Get rid of depressing feelings!
