Las Vegas is a fantastical Disneyland for adults in the middle of the desert. It features fabulous displays of water — like the thousand dancing fountains of the Bellagio Hotel or the winding canals that recreate Venice at the Venetian Hotel. But surprisingly, it's a city that has also become known for water conservation and innovation. In this episode, we sit down with Pat Mulroy, who was the top water manager in Southern Nevada for 25 years and led conservation efforts in the desert city. We talk with her about the existential crisis that Las Vegas and other desert cities face, how Southern Nevada has been able to cut its Colorado River water use by 31% in the past two decades, and what that means for the trade-offs that we all may have to consider to keep living where we want to live.

Welcome to the 6th Round Retro Post-Fight Show. This is the show that digs into the archives and gives you a comprehensive review of classic MMA events, that span as far back as UFC 1. Join Eddie Mercado & Victor Rodriguez as they delve into the world of the ‘UFC 37.5 As Real As It Gets' event this week, straight out of the archives of yesteryear. So let's take a trip back to Saturday, June 22, 2002 and check out the first UFC event to feature Joe Rogan as a color commentator; after having done several behind-the-scenes interviews starting back at UFC 12. The guys will explore the UFC 37.5 event complete with results, analysis, and of course a few laughs. The oddly numbered event was a last-minute deal which was held in order to promote the ‘UFC on FOX' Sports Net's ‘The Best Damn Sports Show Period', where the “best fight” of the night was to air during the BDSSP's ‘All Star Summer' celebration in June 2002. The fight aired was ‘Steve Berger vs Robbie Lawler', which holds the distinction of being the first ever MMA fight to be aired on US cable TV. The ‘UFC 37.5' event, aka: ‘As Real As it Gets: Vitor Belfort vs. Chuck Liddell' went down from the Bellagio Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, NV. It featured a mere six fights on the card and was then held aside for it's PPV broadcast until later on August 16th. They called it UFC 37.5 because UFC 38 was previously announced & marketed for England, where the UFC was making their debut in three weeks. Your commentators were Mike ‘Goldy' Goldberg, Jeff Osborne, & the debuting Joe Rogan. Plus, we had Bruce Buffer on the mic, with ‘Big' John McCarthy, Kipp Kollar, & Cecil Peoples refereeing the event. The big names of the show were Chuck Liddell & Vitor Belfort in the headliner, with Benji Radach vs Nick Serra in the co-main. We also had a young Robbie Lawler giving a stellar performance on the card. The event had what may be the smallest audience for a UFC numbered event, at 3,700 people. If you would like to watch the event, it can be found on UFC Fight Pass in the UFC Archives in one viewing; you can also search for the event via YouTube or you can search under the names of the fighters of each bout, one video per bout is likely out there across the interwebs, so some hunting would need to be done to look up the card in its entirety off of platforms other than Fight Pass. Join us to rediscover all the action and discuss as we go along! Let's check it out! ________________________________ (SPOILERS) The fight card was set up as follows: At 5:39 — LHW: Chuck Liddell (11-1) def. Chris Anderson, President, Sala Consulting joined Grayson Brulte on The Road To Autonomy Podcast to discuss the Vegas Experience and why mobility companies can offer unique immersive autonomous vehicle experiences only in Vegas. The conversation begins with Chris discussing the current state of the Las Vegas Economy. It's recovering quickly. It's going really well. If you go down to the Strip on a Thursday, Friday, Saturday night, Sunday, it is packed as it ever was. – Chris AndersonOver the years, Vegas has constantly reinvented itself and introduced new trends that would be exported to the world. One of those trends is experiences. Chris explains why the trend of immersive experiences truly began in Vegas when Jay Sarno developed Caesars Palace in 1966.[Caesars Palace] was really a project that took Las Vegas from being just gambling halls and extremely gaming-focused to a more of an experiential resort. – Chris AndersonThe trend of immersive experiences accelerated with Steve Wynn opening the Bellagio Hotel in 1998. The opening of the Bellagio also transformed the image of Vegas from midnight buffets and cheap rooms to a luxury destination. With Vegas emerging as a hub of mobility with Aptiv, The Boring Company, Lyft, Motional, Nuro, Uber, and Zoox, all operating in Vegas, Grayson, and Chris discuss why Las Vegas. We have a very welcoming community that is very welcome to innovation and new people, new companies. Our regulatory framework reflects that. – Chris AndersonIt's not only the community and the regulatory framework it's the Vegas brand. It's the ultimate branding opportunity. If you launch in Las Vegas, you are going to get hundreds of millions, if not billions of impressions around the world, because Las Vegas is such a destination. – Chris AndersonWhile a majority of the revenues generated in Las Vegas today are non-gaming revenues, online gaming is growing at a rapid pace. With the growth of online gaming and Motional and Zoox preparing to offer autonomous vehicle services for paying passengers, Grayson asks Chris when bespoke online gambling experiences will be offered in resort branded autonomous vehicles. There is no doubt that that is going to happen. Obviously, we have great online sports betting opportunities right now. Sometime in the future, I can see full internet gaming being an option. So, when those products are ready for it and the autonomous vehicle industry is ready for it, there is no doubt in my mind that that will happen. – Chris AndersonAutonomous vehicles companies that will benefit from this trend the most, are companies that have chosen to build a bespoke vehicle from the ground up.Autonomous vehicles that are not retrofitted will enable unique partnerships with gaming companies due to the design and the user experience in the vehicle. The immersive user experience will expand to sports teams such as the Las Vegas Raiders and the Golden Knights.Wrapping up the conversation, Grayson and Chris discuss Casinos and their role in the growth of online gaming and how in-autonomous vehicle gamming could expand globally.Recorded on Tuesday, November 11, 2021.See Privacy Policy at https://art19.com/privacy and California Privacy Notice at https://art19.com/privacy#do-not-sell-my-info.
Morgan's entry into the World of Illusion began as a child when his parents gave him a magic set for his birthday. Instantly bitten by the "magic bug", Morgan began performing for family and friends. By his early teens, he was a local celebrity, performing close-up and stage magic for birthday parties, corporate events and church functions. Before achieving success, Strebler worked odd jobs ranging from a magician pitchman at Houdini's magic shop to working security at nightclubs in Las Vegas. Strebler developed a professional persona around his signature "Liquid Metal" routine in order to distinguish himself from other magicians. In 2003, he was asked to perform at Neverland Ranch for Joe Jackson's birthday party.Later, he performed two nights a week at V bar inside The Venetian and then five nights a week at the Bellagio Hotel and Casino inside the Caramel lounge. His regular performances later led to a comedy show at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino called Beacher's Madhouse.
Kathleen opens the show drinking a Tan Limes Lager from Cape May Brewing Co, which she picked up on her recent trip to Atlantic City for her show at The Borgata. TERMITE SHOUTOUTS: Kathleen gives thanks to the Termites who leave notes at shows and send mail to her PO Box. She begins by thanking Termite Kathy for leaving her a gorgeous mermaid Christmas ornament at Kathleen's Borgata show in Atlantic City. Big thanks to the Termite who sent fancy dog treats, which Mustard will love when he visits, and Termite Heather for the Shanty Bar mini Crown Royal bags. “GOOD BAD FOOD”: In her quest for new and delicious not-so-nutritious junk food AND in continuing her search for the best Ranch, Kathleen samples Ruffles Jalapeno Ranch chips, which she loves because they resemble sour cream n' onion chips (one of her favorite flavors.) She moves on to sample Whataburger's Spicy Jalapeño Ranch, which she loves because it has a “kick at the end,” and St. Louis's Twisted Ranch Garlic Smashed Buffalo, which she ALSO recommends adding to your pantry. UPDATE ON KATHLEEN'S QUEEN'S COURT: Kathleen provides an update on the Queens, and this week extends the court to Christine McVie (friend and bandmate of Queen Stevie Nicks) who has followed suit with other 70's rockers and recently announced that she has sold her song catalog rights to Hipgnosis Songs Fund. Kathleen is then thrilled to advise the Termites that Queen Dolly Parton has been named to Forbes' 2021 list of America's Self-Made Women, clocking in at $350 million. Dolly has also announced that she has teamed up with novelist James Patterson on her first novel called “Run Rose, Run” which will hit shelves in March 2022. EL MENCHO SENDS NEWS ANCHOR INTO HIDING: As a follow up to EP31, Kathleen gives an update out of Mexico where a prominent news anchor, Azucena Uresti, has been forced into Witness Protection after El Mencho, the current leader of the Jalisco New Generation Cartel has accused her of biased coverage of the cartel. BANKSY CONFIRMS AUTHENTICITY OF ART: As an art lover and fan of the street artist Banksy, Kathleen reads an update that new murals have been found in numerous coastal towns in the east of England. Although Banksy has not yet claimed responsibility for graffiti stencils and the larger “We're All In The Same Boat,” locals are certain that he will reveal their authenticity soon enough. ELIZABETH HOLMES' PSYCH EVAL: In continuing with Kathleen's obsession with Elizabeth Holmes' upcoming trial, she reads an article advising that Holmes is using the position that her ex-boyfriend Sunny Balwani was the puppeteer of the Theranos scandal, which Kathleen provides her own opinion around ☺ TIM TEBOW RELEASED BY JAGS: Kathleen laughs out loud reading an UPDATE that former NFL player and College Football analyst Tim Tebow has been released by the Jacksonville Jaguars after a failed experiment of allowing him to play Tight End in a single preseason game. Kathleen has an issue with Tebow bringing scripture unnecessarily into sports, comparing the biblical scripture that Tebow quotes on his face to hands of blackjack since Catholics can't recite any specific passages from the Bible. MURDER HORNETS RETURN: As a follow-up to EP14, Kathleen updates listeners that Murder Hornets have returned to Washington state. State entomologists confirmed the first live sighting of Asian Giant Hornets, also known as a murder hornet for its ability to decimate honeybee hives.FLYING TAXI STOCK GOES PUBLIC: Kathleen is thrilled to read an announcement that flying taxi company Joby Aviation has gone public, billing itself as the “Uber of the Air” leading into the IPO. Based in Santa Cruz CA, Joby is has developed an electrically powered, low-noise flying taxi capable of vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL). Kathleen plans to cash in some of her Dogecoin and move those funds to JOBY stock. NEBRASKA FAMILY DOLLAR STRIKE: Kathleen laughs and applauds a group of Family Dollar store employees in Lincoln, NE as she reads a news release that the 2 remaining employees in that store walked off the job last week after leaving a farewell note on the front door of the store that read: "We all quit. Sorry for the inconvenience." Citing poor pay, management issues, and long hours, the employees walked off the job and forced a store closure that took days to reconcile. STEVE WYNN'S 11 PICASSOS OFFERED FOR AUCTION: As the Termites know, Kathleen is an avid fan of art. She's excited to read a release that MGM Resorts International has enlisted Sotheby's to come to Las Vegas to auction off a cache of Pablo Picasso paintings amassed years earlier by casino magnate Steve Wynn. The 11 Picassos to be sold have long been displayed at a Picasso-themed restaurant at the Bellagio Hotel & Casino, and Kathleen has always really appreciated Wynn's intent to offer access to these works to the general public. THE NRA'S TRAFFICKING SECRET: Kathleen is appalled sharing an article disclosing that in Fall 2013 an export company in Botswana prepared a shipment of animal parts for Wayne and Susan LaPierre, the head of the National Rifle Association and his wife. The list of trophies from their recent hunt included animal parts from a zebra, hyaena, a cape-buffalo, a cheetah, and multiple elephants. Susan confirmed the shipment and wrote back with a request that import paperwork should have no clear links to the LaPierre's or the NRA. Charges are pending, Termites so stay tuned….karma comes around.POLITE APES: Kathleen laughs reading a recent study announcing that apes purposefully use signals to begin and end social interactions -- behaviors not typically seen outside of humans until now, according to the journal iScience. Researchers analyzed more than 1,200 interactions with groups of zoo apes and found that they commonly exchange gazes or swap gestures to share their intentions about social interactions, such as waving hello. DISCOVERY OF THE TROJAN HORSE: Kathleen is thrilled to read an article advising that archaeologists in Turkey excavating the site of the historical city of Troy have unearthed a large wooden structure, and the measurements resemble those of the Trojan Horse. Kathleen then leads the Termites down a massive rabbit hole of whether the Trojan Horse existed.FANTASY FOOTBALL: Kathleen closes out the Pubcast discussing the recent Fantasy Football Draft that her league completed, taking Tom Brady as her top pick for quarterback (which both Lewis Black and Ron White tease her for doing). Bellagio Bandit Robbed the Casino of More Than $1 Million in ChipsTony Carleo made off with over $1 million in high-end casino chips from the Bellagio in 2010. He was immediately dubbed the Bellagio Bandit as part of a nine-year prison sentence at Nevada’s Lovelock Correctional Center. The daring robbery took place at a high-end craps table on the Bellagio casino floor. That crime was committed just five days after Carleo stole $19,000 from a Suncoast Casino poker room 10 miles outside of town. After the heist, he checked into the Bellagio Hotel and Casino to spend the money. Carleo’s eventual downfall was tied to the use of special $25,000 high roller chips.
Digital. The Top Ten Travel News Stories of the Week. Day In, Day Out
Digital #10Unexpectedly, Trivago integrated Google Hotel Ads in trivago Business Studio. “Now,” according to the German metasearch company, “you can create a Google Hotel Ads campaign without leaving your Business Studio. (…) It runs on the CPA model, so you can advertise to a wider global audience with no extra risk.”Digital #9By a similarly odd move, Tripadvisor launched Review Hub, the new reputation management tool, giving restaurant owners and managers the ability to respond to reviews not only on Tripadvisor, but on Google, Facebook, TheFork, Yelp and, More, All from One Easy-to-Use Platform. You can take a peak at the platform here.Digital#8Mother is “one of the world’s most respected, independent creative companies” in the world, and, if you’re into design, you’ve probably heard of them. Their last work was the revamp of the Tripadvisor logo. “The redesigned logo,” Associate Editor of Creative Bloq, Ruth Hamilton, wrote “keeps the essence of Ollie (Tripadvisor owl mascotte) but given him a minimalist makeover. The new Tripadvisor logo has a simpler, monochrome design that’s much more flexible for use in different contexts.” The rebrand incorporates a new custom type font (Trip Sans), a new color palette, and the “a” in the name is no longer in capitals.Digital#7But will a logo revamp be enough to save Tripadvisor? As the company celebrates its 20th birthday, it may be facing way bigger issues. Just to name one: Viator. The company was acquired six years ago for $200M, and it is now officially operating independently from Tripadvisor Experiences. Experiences President, Dermot Halpin (obviously) left the company and will only stay in Q1 with the role of advisor. Viator Founder, Rod Cuthbert, enjoyed an I told you so moment, by saying that, “back in 2017,” he already talked “about the mistake I felt Trip was making in shifting emphasis away from Viator, the established leader in tours and activities, to Tripadvisor Experiences.” Based on the announcement, he was totally right.Digital#6But it gets worse: according to rumors, Tripadvisor may be making cuts for something around $60M and $80M. First one to go? CFO and President for APAC, Gary Fritz, leaving in Q2.Digital#5Changes in the Experience unit for Airbnb as well: the company hired Catherine Powell, former Walt Disney theme park president. That’s not the first time Disney exects get into the travel space: last May, Tripadvisor appointed Kanika Soni, former SVP, global e-commerce of the Consumer Products Division Disney, as President of the Company’s Hotels Business Unit.Digital#4After 11 years as LinkedIn CEO, Jeff Weiner is now stepping down. He will be replaced by Ryan Roslansky, another LinkedIn veteran, that has been in the company since before Microsoft acquired it (for over $25B) in 2016. Currently, LinkedIn as around 700M members.Digital#3Sabre seems unstoppable lately: it just signed a strategic long-term global partnership with OYO, connecting the Indian company to almost 1M travel agents worldwide via Sabre GDS. Digital#2According to the Phocuswright’s Europe Online Travel Overview 2019 study, “Europe’s travel market grew 2% in 2019 to €296B [and] travel continues to be a key element of the European lifestyle.” Digital#1Grand Hotel Villa Serbelloni represents “a century and a half of welcoming elegance.” Recently awarded by Travel & Leisure N°1 resort in Italy, the hotel is so iconic that it inspired the famous Bellagio Hotel, in Las Vegas. Among its guests, you can find names such as JFK, Al Pacino, and George Lucas. During today’s episode of Digital. (3:00 PM CET)I will be joined by Anita Cancelliere, Marketing Manager (and personal friend of mine), and we’ll talk about the current state of luxury in travel. Don’t miss it!

There are two words that have always reaped more return for me than any other.Go. Do.For those of us who are immersed in a fast-paced, competitive world, they are essential. Because life and business are competitive. If we aren’t progressing, growing and intentionally seeking out improvement…well, someone else who is will take what we once called ours.First, Go. I find that when I get out of my usual routine and change my scenery, new ideas and fresh perspective begin to bring clarity to the murky day in, day out. Sometimes this means getting out of the office for a couple hours and working from another location. Sometimes it means going to a conference out of state. Sometimes it means flying to NYC for the day with no agenda and just walking 20 miles. (True story). But it can’t stop there. Once you find clarity, you have to DO something about it. Implement something you learned as immediately as possible. Commit to making one small change which will hold you accountable to the clarity.Clarity is extremely perishable. This week I was able to snag a few minutes with Kendell Griffen, CX manager for Nissan as we talk about the holistic approach needed to give the customer what they are looking for. I think its appropriate that we met at a conference. Going. Doing.Speaking of going and doing, we’ve got a busy week planned!I’ll be at vAuto’s exclusive Access Velocity event in Chicago this week where we are helping out by producing content for an exciting and secret new product launch…After that its off to the Driving Sales Executive Summit where I’ll be presenting the workshop “A Crash Course in Dealership Branding” on Sunday at 4pm at the Bellagio Hotel in LasVegas. If you are going to be at either one, I’d consider it a privilege to meet you!Go. Intel has been creating light shows through the use of drones for some time now. Marlo and Dave had the opportunity to witness just how spectacular the shows are. During CES 2018, both Marlo and Dave attended the “Drone Light Show” at the Bellagio Hotel in Las Vegas during CES 2018. Intel launched 250 Shooting Star drones over the Bellagio Hotel, syncing up the display with the Fountains of Bellagio water display. The result was an amazing display of entertainment that awed spectators up and down the Las Vegas Strip. The post Bellagio Lights Up the Sky & Meltdown and Spectre appeared first on The Tech Ranch.
This is a really exciting episode. I recorded this episode from the inside of the Aptiv and Lyft self-driving car at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas. Aptiv and Lyft partnered up to offer limited demonstrations of their self-driving car during the massive tech conference. When I first checked into the Lyft tent at the Gold Lot at CES, I received instructions on how to request a self-driving Lyft ride from a staff member. At first, I needed to update my app. Once the app was updated, I opened it up and then had to continuously close and refresh it for about 10 minutes until a pop-up window showed up that asked me if I wanted to take a demo ride in a Lyft self-driving car. I promptly agreed but was disheartened to find out that there were no available spots. After about fifteen minutes of staring at my Lyft app, the button finally changed to an option that I could reserve a spot on the waitlist. Needless to say, the self-driving Lyft rides were in very high demand and the process to request one was not the easiest. Considering that there were hundreds of people in the parking lot that were all requesting a Lyft ride, I was very fortunate to get added to the waitlist. Once I got added to the wait list, the app showed that my Lyft ride was 21 minutes away. An hour later, the wait time finally changed to 20 minutes. A half-hour later, the wait time decreased to 16 minutes. As I waited, there was a race between the decreasing life of my iPhone battery and the arrival of my ride. While I waited at the Lyft tent, I took photos of the car on display and compared its sensors to the tech that we discussed in episode 11. The BMW was much sexier than the Keolis shuttle. Finally, a Lyft or Aptiv engineer came into the tent to inform Britney that her ride had arrived. Clearly, Brittney was not in it to win it, because she was nowhere to be found. The engineer asked me if I wanted to take her spot and if her predestined drop off point at the Bellagio Hotel was acceptable to me. The Bellagio was 20 minutes away from my hotel at the Venetian, but after waiting for two hours I would take that car anywhere its artificial intelligence system would take me. As I was waiting around, I met a friendly guy named Brent Hankins, who happened to be a Design Engineer in the self-driving car industry. We agreed to share the ride to the Bellagio and the rest is history. Listen to the podcast for the play-by-play. Of course, since this was a demo, there was a safety driver and technician in the front seats. Odin and Murun were both great hosts and represented the Aptiv and Lyft companies exceptionally well. I can't thank them enough for their great insight and patience with us. Overall, I was very impressed with the Aptiv and Lyft self-driving car. Odin had to take control three times during our 30-minute drive. He navigated out of the convention center parking lot, took control momentarily while a police officer was controlling traffic, and had to take control at the end when the car was headed to a location other than the Bellagio. Traffic was the worst that the Las Vegas Strip had to offer, and the Aptiv and Lyft self-driving car handled it with ease. I was very impressed. For some reason, the self-driving experience continued to freeze my Lyft app for almost an hour after I got dropped off. I guess it didn't like the fact that I took Britney's ride, so it was still showing that my Lyft was 15 minutes away. So in a strange irony, I was forced to take an Uber ride to the airport after I got dropped off.
