Key Takeaways: Nurturing the Adaptive Nervous System: The nervous system is a learning technology that wants to learn, grow, evolve, and adapt. By cultivating and nurturing the intelligence and life force within us, we can maximize our health and life potential. Prioritizing Growth and Integration: Suffering is optional, and the greatest growth occurs right at the edge of our comfort zone. By prioritizing rest, healing, and integrating our experiences, we can move our nervous system into greater coherence and adapt more effectively. Consciousness and Whole Mind: Consciousness streams through our body-mind machines, interacting with matter and the biological intelligence of the body, creating an integrated whole mind that includes the brain, enteric nervous system, gut mind, and heart-mind. Expanding Consciousness, Limitless Potential: There are no limitations in matter, only limitations in consciousness. By expanding our consciousness and making the subconscious conscious, we can grow and evolve as human beings. Uniqueness, Purpose, and Evolution: Each person is unique and has a distinct purpose to fulfill in this world. By giving our unique verse and song to the world, we can contribute to the evolution of humanity and ourselves. When you're feeling down about your body, that feeling can take over — and turning it around can be a lot more complicated than just saying positive affirmations about the skin you're in. How do we move beyond our ideas of what positive body image (and even "body positivity") should look like, and work toward something greater and long-lasting? Today's guest is Chrissy King, author of THE BODY LIBERATION PROJECT: How Understanding Racism and Diet Culture Helps Cultivate Joy and Build Collective Freedom. In this episode, we talk about: What the difference is between body image, body neutrality, body positivity, and body liberation Why "loving your body" is so freaking hard to do — from both an emotional and societal standpoint What body liberation actually FEELS like (and how you can take steps to get there) How to recocile conflicting thoughts/feelings about your body and the way it should or shouldn't be Why Chrissy says you might experience a grief or mourning of your body while working toward body liberation How to deal with other people's triggering comments ...and more! ABOUT CHRISSY: Chrissy King is a writer, speaker, strength coach, and educator with a passion for creating a diverse and inclusive wellness industry. She empowers individuals to stop shrinking, start taking up space, and use their energy to create their specific magic in the world. She has been featured in SELF, SHAPE, Health, Cosmopolitan, BuzzFeed, Muscle and Fitness, and Livestrong, among others. With degrees in Social Justice and Sociology from Marquette University, Chrissy merges her passion for Social Justice and her passion for fitness to empower individuals within the fitness and wellness industry to create spaces that allow individuals from all backgrounds to feel seen, welcome, respected, and celebrated. Well peeps, it's official! I'm now a 40 year old woman! In today's mini episode, I share some life lessons I've learned through the years. We talk about finding joy beyond body size and how to live your life and find peace in the body you have now. We talk about being more present in your life, both through a mindfulness meditation practice and through developing a gratitude practice. We also talk about a new way of seeing where you've ended up in your life, and the detours you may have taken, as well as how to cultivate those inner spaces of resiliency and self compassion that will truly be there for you when the road gets tough, rather than focusing on what others can see, on dealing with the opinions of others. It's a short one today, but packed with the things I realize more and more as I get older. For all the links mentioned in today's episode, click here or visit brownble.com/blog

Today we're talking about how the Contemplative can helps us respond to the signals coming from our bodies without all the shame. Most of us know the feeling all too well – that comment that so embarrassed us, expectations that we hold of ourselves, pressures we feel in society... The Contemplative helps us engage motivation that comes from a far more positive space, one where both God and our bodies (gently) show us the way. Join us as we talk about some of the many ways we've experienced this struggle in our own lives and how Contemplative questions are teaching us and helping us begin to move beyond shame.Additional Resources:Book: An Altar in the World by Barbara Brown TaylorBook: Sacred Rhythms by Ruth Haley BartonBook: The Problem of Pain by C.S. We must learn to be strong at heart when we are put under pressure. The philosophy of Tantra is one we can adopt to support us in opening up beyond body and mind when we're over the discomfort created by prolonged periods of “pressure” - whether that's pressure to perform, pressure to provide, pressure to stay or pressure go. Lex helps listeners by providing a new perspective to adopt the next time they find themselves under the pressure of transformation and awakening. www.lexferrier.com
Many women believe that they will feel confident when they reach the perfect weight, look a certain way or find the ideal diet. Yet, if this were true, why are millions of conventionally beautiful women worldwide, struggling with their confidence? And, why do we still feel empty when we reach our external goals? Episode 2 is all about debunking these body confidence myths and showing you why confidence is an inside job. I'm chatting to my beautiful friend Laura Phelan, who overcame anorexia to become a renowned Eating Disorder Specialist, Speaker and Founder of 'Phelan Well'. We discuss how to begin healing your relationship with food, body image and disordered eating, and how you can start cutting through the noise in a society that tells you to shrink yourself to be happier. In this raw and real conversation, we both share our own stories of food struggles, healing our relationship with ourselves and how our challenges have led us to the deeply fulfilling work we do now. Laura is the co founder to Beyond Body confidence, an ambassador for B-eat, the UK's leading eating disorder charity and a Mental Health trainer for Mind Charity. You can also catch her regularly on the News as well as spending time debating in Parliament for better eating disorder provisions in the UK.
