Highly processed vegetable oils, derived from seeds and beans, have become a dominant part of modern diets despite significant health concerns. Historical biases in nutrition science, influenced by the vegetable oil industry, have promoted these oils despite evidence from controlled studies showing negative health outcomes. These oils are unstable, prone to oxidation, and can create toxic byproducts, particularly when exposed to heat, contributing to inflammation and chronic diseases. Although they can lower LDL cholesterol, studies have shown that this reduction does not necessarily improve heart health and may increase risks for other conditions like cancer. In contrast, traditional fats like extra virgin olive oil and omega-3-rich foods offer more stability and health benefits, emphasizing the need for a balanced, minimally processed approach to dietary fats. In this episode, I talk with Nina Teicholz and Max Lugavere to explore the health impacts of different types of fats and oils, debunking misconceptions around cooking with extra virgin olive oil and emphasizing the dangers of industrial vegetable oils. Nina Teicholz is a science journalist and author of the New York Times bestseller, The Big Fat Surprise, which upended the conventional wisdom on dietary fat—especially saturated fat—and spurred a new conversation about whether these fats in fact cause heart disease. She is also the founder of the Nutrition Coalition, a non-profit working to ensure that government nutrition policy is transparent and evidence-based—work for which she's been asked to testify before the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the Canadian Senate. Max Lugavere is a health and science journalist and the author of the New York Times best-seller Genius Foods: Become Smarter, Happier, and More Productive While Protecting Your Brain for Life, now published in 10 languages around the globe. His sophomore book, also a best-seller, is called The Genius Life: Heal Your Mind, Strengthen Your Body, and Become Extraordinary and latest book Genius Kitchen. Today's episode is extra special.  On the Purpose and Profit podcast, I interview business leaders that are innovating new approaches to business. These changemakers are marching to the beat of their own drum, paving new paths that others will follow. To be a changemaker requires having the courage to do things differently. Yesterday, my husband Ozan Varol released a new book called Awaken Your Genius: Escape Conformity, Ignite Creativity, and Become Extraordinary. This is a practical guidebook for impractical people. People that are determined to carve new paths as leaders and creators. In hindsight, we call these people geniuses, as if they're another breed. But genius isn't for a special few. It can be cultivated. This book shows you how.   In this episode, I share the introduction of Awaken Your Genius, to inspire you on your changemaker path.  Some of the insights Awaken Your Genius shares are: ●      The secret to stop overthinking and start doing ●      A completely counterintuitive practice that the best thinkers use to generate original ideas ●      The one question you can ask to identify hidden time-sucks that clutter your brain and create overwhelm ●      Why you'll never feel “on top of everything” (and what to do about it) References: Awaken Your Genius: Escape Conformity, Ignite Creativity, and Become Extraordinary by Ozan Varol Visit Ozan's website here  Connect & Share: If you enjoy the podcast, would you please consider leaving a short review on Apple Podcasts/iTunes? IN THIS EPISODE OF THE HUMAN UPGRADE™… former rocket scientist and former law professor Ozan Varol—an expert in creativity, innovation, and critical thinking—says that unlocking your full potential involves reimagining the status quo rather than simply resisting it. “The word resist for me gets in the way because often resistance becomes a different way of conformity, as in you're resisting something but you're not really offering a new path forward,” he says. “So, resistance becomes its own end in and of itself. The goal should be re-imagination.”In this discussion about Ozan's newest book, “AWAKEN YOUR GENIUS: Escape Conformity, Ignite Creativity, and Become Extraordinary,” you'll learn to access the best parts of your brain and create your own path as a leader and creator by acting instead of reacting. While people consider those who blaze their own trail as geniuses, Ozan contends that genius is not limited to a select few. Rather, it can be discovered by anyone. He loaded this book with smart tips, examples, things to think about, and things to do. For example, you'll learn why you should ignore email until noon and spend the most valuable time of your day thinking in creativity. You'll also learn how spending more time on the “why” than the “what” moves you toward the life you really want to be living. He lays out an action roadmap for you to cultivate your own genius and be in charge of your time and creativity.Watch this episode on YouTube!Find all the links and resources in the show notes.WE APPRECIATE OUR PARTNERS. “Ideas don't arrive with a bang. There is no parade. The big thing never screams that it's a big thing. The big thing actually at first looks quite small, but if your life is filled with constant noise, constant chatter, and you're not making room to listen to yourself, you won't be able to hear that subtle whisper, when it arrives. Most people say, oh, my, my best ideas come to me in the shower, it's surprising. If you think about it though, it's not surprising at all because it's like one of the few moments of your day when you're by yourself and you're not getting bombarded by these high decibel sirens for attention in the form of notifications and emails and text messages and phone calls and this and that. You're in this solitary environment where you're letting your mind wander and it's just you and your thoughts and all of these built up whispers then begin to emerge to the surface, but we just don't stay with that long enough to really lean into those ideas, but imagine, you know, the types of ideas you might be able to generate if you can replicate those shower like conditions throughout the day so that you do hear those subtle whispers when they come up.” So says Ozan Varol, a recovering law professor and former rocket scientist who has spent the last decade or so analyzing the way we think, create, and ideate. In 2020, he wrote Think Like a Rocket Scientist, which explores the way we problem solve—it's full of fascinating stories and case studies. And he's now out with his next book, Awaken Your Inner Genius: Escape Conformity, Ignite Creativity, and Become Extraordinary, which offers a continuation of the theme: How do we come up with new ideas and novel solutions, without falling into the trap of doing what everyone else is doing. Ozan is a wonderful narrator and guide, offering hundreds of anecdotes of people—in every conceivable sphere of life—who are doing things differently, and creating change in the process. The best part? Most of his advice is simple and easy to implement, a small shift in how we move throughout our days.  MORE FROM OZAN VAROL: Think Like a Rocket Scientist: Simple Strategies You Can Use to Make Giant Leaps in Work and Life Awaken Your Inner Genius: Escape Conformity, Ignite Creativity, and Become Extraordinary Ozan Varol's Website To learn more about listener data and our privacy practices visit: https://www.audacyinc.com/privacy-policy Learn more about your ad choices. There are so many foods we can eat to support better cognition, reduce the risk of neurodegenerative diseases, and feel sharper, smarter, and happier every day. Along those same lines, many of the processed foods in our Standard American Diet are sabotaging our brain health with loads of excess sugar and other sneaky ingredients. I'm excited to sit down with Max Lugavere to explore what it looks like to eat a diet that specifically benefits the brain. If you're thinking you don't need that focus in your personal diet, think again: these habits and foods are benefiting your entire body, too. That's why many brain symptoms—like brain fog, anxiety, memory loss, and more—can actually be caused by systemic inflammation. The foods we eat, the toxins we're exposed to, our stress levels, and our genetics are just some of the many aspects that can impact the body—and the brain's—propensity towards inflammation. In this episode, I discuss inflammation in the brain with Dr. Todd LePine. We dive into the many factors that can drive neuroinflammation, the range of conditions that are linked to brain inflammation, and how we work with patients to cool this inflammation. "Victorious warriors win first and then go to war, while defeated warriors go to war first and then seek to win." -Sun Tzu.    Hey, Dr. Ram and Chris here! Welcome back to the Unlimited Potential Show! As you already know if you listen to our show, preparation is important, right? People spend months getting ready for their wedding, their first day on the job, people spend years in school preparing for their career of choice, the list goes on.  In our culture, it seems like preparation is only applied for big moments in one's life. What if we approached everything with that level of preparation and intentionality? Mind, body, spirit, career, family life, all of it.  This concept is why in today's episode we are talking about the warrior mindset and the monk mindset and the importance of balancing the two. This is a concept we read about in the book The Buddha and the Badass: The Secret Spiritual Art of Succeeding at Work.  Listen in to hear our thoughts on this approach to living, how mental preparation is often more important than physical preparation, putting yourself in the mental state and mindset for success is of the utmost importance, and so much more.  PS: Today we kick off the show with some of the hardest ‘would you rather questions we have ever answered. Do you feel trapped in the ‘ordinary'?  Do you often feel like you should be doing something extraordinary but your day job is in the way?  I believe that when you discover Gods original design for vocation, then the ordinary becomes extraordinary!  We are created in the image and likeness of our Father God, the ultimate creator, and builder of all things. God worked, and now we work. Work is spiritual and was ordained before the fall. It is not a result of sin or a form of punishment. Vocation is the very means through which God intends to build his Kingdom. Check out this introduction to the Metron Manager Project and the book Managing Your Metron!

Back in May, we asked our listeners what topic we should discuss on our podcast, and the response was overwhelming: anxiety. We believe that this response is definitely a reflection of the time we’re all in, but it is also something many freelancers struggle with from time to time—both anxiety in general and social anxiety in particular. We are very grateful to our guest, Sadie Hall, for joining us in this episode and sharing her experience with managing anxiety, social anxiety, and perfectionism.Sadie is a freelance translator and editor living in Hamilton, Ontario, Canada. A daily devotional through the Bible speaking with God as Adam and Eve may have in the garden east of Eden. Our website http://alittlewalkwithgod.com summary So what made Stephen so different from everyone else? The difference was his upper room experience. He was a man full of faith and filled with the Holy Spirit, God's Spirit. He prayed through on the morning of Pentecost and found what Jesus asked him to find. He found God that morning in all His glory as Stephen let the Holy Spirit live in him as his comforter and guide. With God living in him, Stephen could wear the countenance of an angel. He could be at peace in front of the Sanhedrin who accused him of blasphemy even when innocent of the charges. He could face death at the hands of false accusers and false witness and ask for their forgiveness because his spirit was given over to God's Spirit. You can do the same. Stephen wasn't special, except he gave himself to God. Then, Stephen became extraordinary! today's scriptures Today's Bible reading plans include: Ready - Acts 6 Set - Job 2; Acts 6 Go! - Job 1-2; Acts 6-7
