Reinvention Room is launched with a whole new twist!!! This episode is a juicy one. I'm breaking down the Tradwife phenomenon—a throwback to 1950s-style homemaking in today's modern world. If you've ever stumbled across an Instagram account like Ballerina Farm or found yourself questioning the aesthetics, values, and privilege behind these curated lives, you're in for a treat.I dive into what Tradwives are, why they're so polarizing, and what makes them both fascinating and frustrating. From the allure of simplicity to the backlash from feminists, I'm unpacking why this cultural moment lights up so many debates. Are Tradwives just living their best lives, or are they masking privilege and systemic inequities? And, most importantly, how does this trend reflect where we are as women in 2025?I'll share my personal reactions (spoiler: I'm not moving to a farm anytime soon) and highlight key players like Ballerina Farm and other tradwife influencers. We'll also explore whether this movement is truly about choice—or if it's an MLM-esque path back to traditional gender roles.Notable Timestamps:0:00-2:15: Welcome to The Reinvention Room relaunch! Why we're talking about Tradwives.2:16-10:30: My journey to this podcast name and why reinvention is central to this conversation.10:31-18:45: What the heck is a Tradwife? Let's define it and break it down.18:46-27:00: Meet Ballerina Farm—aesthetic goals or a recipe for rage?27:01-33:20: The feminist critique, the conservative dream, and everything in between.33:21-41:10: The behind-the-scenes hustle of tradwife content creators. Are they even “traditional”?41:11-49:00: Is the tradwife movement just an MLM in disguise?49:01-53:30: My closing thoughts: Why this trend makes us feel all the feelings.Mentioned in This Episode:Check out Ballerina Farm on Instagram for a deep dive into the aesthetic.Anne Helen Petersen's viral piece on TradwivesGrab your spot in the Freedom25 workshop and mastermind. If this episode got you thinking, please share it with your friends or tag me on Instagram at @allison__hare. I (Allison Hare) was recently featured on the top-ranked podcast, She Sells Radio with Elyse Archer. We had a really interesting in-depth conversation about how to reinvent yourself after 40. One thing that has been circulating around my circles is that it can feel really overwhelming when you have built a big life and are realizing what you want - might have evolved into something different - and not sure how to make that pivot. Elyse Archer is a brilliant money and mindset coach and I've been an early client of hers. In fact, she's been featured on this podcast in episode 97 which I will link in the show notes. I thought she asked such insightful questions that I wanted to share our conversation and her work with you here.Allison looks back on feeling the pull to work with Elyse and how it changed her life. It's incredible to see someone put aside the reasons not to and start reinventing themselves.Allison shares what she learned as a child that impacted her career in later years. She explains her background and how she found herself in corporate sales. She suppressed her creative side to choose what she thought would bring her financial stability. It got to a point where she could feel that things were out of alignment. She had to get to the bottom of burnout.Giving a platform to the thing that lights you up the most opens up everything. For many people, it is somewhere around mid-life where they feel the pull to make a big shift.Where do we even start? It can be scary to make big changes, especially “later” in life. There is grief that comes with outgrowing the familiar.Grieving needs to be normalized. Pain is the price of evolution. There is a misconception and belief that many people have that they are not good enough.Allison describes the framework called Boom, Room, and Bloom.Give yourself some room to experiment but think of it like a playground.Limiting beliefs will hold so many back. Allison explains how she reconciled this within herself.Success is a patchwork of creativity and accomplishment that are all in alignment. We don't have to wait for the event that knocks us down so hard and so far to make a change.Life is the sum of your relationships, not your achievemehttps://podcast.allisonhare.com/post/EP97:Girl-You-Need-To-Make-More-Money!w-Elyse-Archernts. Taking a decidedly hard left pivot to do a cultural deep dive into the new buzzy movie that everyone is talking about, The Substance starring Demi Moore, Margaret Qualley, Dennis Quaid, and co-produced, written and directed by Coralie Fargeat. Shockingly insane, it was like nothing I ever expected and I"m not sure if I recovered. But despite the terrifying visuals and sound design, the message was pretty relevant and thought-provoking. About Christy:Hey, I'm Christy Freddo, owner of Best Life Mindset. I would love to help you completely transform your life using strategies I personally used with great success! In 2011, in a span of six months, I freed myself from the gilded cage that was my high-paying, glamorous but horribly toxic corporate job that everyone envied, left a decade old abusive marriage to a seemingly charming man everyone loved and finally admitted to myself I was an alcoholic and got sober after 20 years of hardcore drinking. Within two years, I had my own profitable business that allowed me to financially continue the lifestyle I had with my corporate job, had met a wonderful, kind man who I would later blend a beautiful family with and had permanently swapped cocktails for yoga without ever looking back. If you are looking to make a change in your life but don't know how to reinvent yourself, reimagine your future or take the necessary steps-- then this episode is for you. Joanne Lipman is an acclaimed journalist who is the author of Next! The Power of Reinvention in life and work. Joanne's done deep research into how and what makes people successful in reinventing their lives and careers, at any stage of the journey. We discuss the 4 steps that are essential to feel, think and act on your goals and how to avoid self-sabotage, fear and rethink being stuck. Production by Peoples Media Hosted on Acast. Joanne Lipman knew she wanted to be a journalist at the age of 7. What happened next was a combination of hard work and embracing chance and opportunity and perhaps a little luck in working with folks who truly wanted to see her succeed and believed in her. Joanne is a bestselling author and pioneering journalist who began her career reporting for the Wall Street Journal, rising to the position of deputy managing editor (the first woman to attain that post). She subsequently was the founding editor-in-chief of Conde Nast Portfolio magazine, was Chief Content Officer of Gannett, where she was Editor-in-Chief of its USA Today and the USA Today Network, encompassing the flagship publication plus 109 metro newspapers including the Detroit Free Press, the Des Moines Register, and the Arizona Republic. In that role, she oversaw more than 3,000 journalists and led the organization to three Pulitzer prizes. She has served as Editor-in-Chief of USA Today, USA Today Network, Conde Nast Portfolio, and The Wall Street Journal's Weekend Journal, leading those organizations to six Pulitzer Prizes. She is also an on-air CNBC contributor and Yale University journalism lecturer. Connect with Joanne on her website. Joanne first wanted to become a journalist at the age of 7 after reading Harriet The Spy. As a freshman in college, Joanne got a summer job working for her local, New Jersey, newspaper which led to an unpaid internship at a fledgling but “real” newspaper. While commuting to Manhattan for her internship she started reading The Wall Street Journal and it completely changed the direction of her passion. The skill that helped most, as an editor, was being able to conceptualize ideas and find a common thread. When Joanne first started at Wall Street Journal there wasn't even a women's room - that's how few women worked at the paper. She was offered promotion after promotion for five years and kept turning them down. But she wasn't “mommy tracked” and stayed on the top of the list. This was an unusual and wonderful opportunity. Leaving Wall Street Journal was difficult and risky but Condé Nast made an offer she couldn't refuse. Post Traumatic Growth is being open to new opportunities because of the stress associated with traumatic experiences. After the financial crises, advertising feel apart and the magazine she'd created, Conde Nast's “Portfolio” closed. This was the chance opportunity that lead to writing her own books. Reinvention Roadmap from Joanne's book, Next: Search, struggle, stop, solution In order to solve problems you have to stop thinking about the solution! Turn your brain off and do something different - then the answers will appear. We don't talk about failure enough and we all fail! Tracking your failures provides really excellent data. Pay attention because nothing is wasted! Get Joanne's books, Next!, That's What She Said: What Men Need to Know (and Women Need to Tell Them) About Working Together, and Strings Attached. What do you value most in this world? Are you currently doing the things you're passionate about? Or do you spend most of your time on things that don't really matter at all? In this episode, learn how you can build your own Reinvention Roadmap to help guide you along your journey to success and happiness. This is your journey. All you have to do is create that destination – what is it that you really want? Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation:Here are some power takeaways from today's conversation: The gift of time and the power of your thoughts Aligning what you value the most vs. where you spend most of your time Listening to your voice Doing different types of Reinventions in your life Defining your WHY Finding a mentor or support group The 10 steps to the Reinvention Roadmap Episode Highlights: The Gift of Time Imagine if you set your alarm clock just 10 minutes earlier every day. What would you do with those 10 precious minutes? Whether you decide to meditate or put your thoughts on paper, you have the opportunity to create a whole new way of living. Think of time as a gift. The Power of Our Thoughts Our thoughts are critical to dictating what our life could be. Our thoughts lead to our beliefs. Our beliefs dictate our actions. And our actions dictate how we live our lives. If you're looking for Reinvention, time and thoughts are two of the most simple commodities found at your fingertips under your control that you can access to create that change. Knowing What You Value the Most Here's a simple exercise you can do: get a pen and paper and create two columns. Write down everything you value under the first column, and then on the second column, write down where you're actually spending most of your time. Take a hard look at that, and be really honest. Do those even align with one another? Working on “Project You” The discovery of ourselves can both be incredibly inciting and daunting. But in that moment where you get to think about what you want for yourself, it's also time to listen to yourself. Understand our own entitlement, create time for yourself, memorialize your values, reflect on what's important. Find your WHY. Design your roadmap, seek out your mentors, and give yourself permission to rethink it all. 10 Steps to the Reinvention Roadmap Find your passion. Decide if you want to monetize it or simply engage in it and enjoy your new journey. Make a plan and stages that work for you. Set your goals – financial, emotional, physical, and spiritual. Do the research. Identify mentors. Assess the skills required. Immerse yourself in the subject matter. Get to it. Be prepared to modify your plan when needed. What does it take to be an entrepreneur? To turn your passion into a business that you love to run? In modern-day America, it's easy to think of entrepreneurship as something that's untouchable – only accessible to those who have an excellent education or an incredible mind. We think of Mark Zuckerberg, Jeff Bezos, or any other world-changing innovator. The result? We don't try it ourselves. The reality is that, with hard work and the right amount of dedication, you can turn your interests into a viable business. We're covering this and more on Episode 1 of the Next Matters Most Podcast as Nick talks with Jes Averhart, creator of the Reinvention Roadmap, and Founder of Jess and Co. For full transcripts of episodes, head to our website: nextmattersmost.com FOLLOW NEXT MATTERS MOST ON FACEBOOK, INSTAGRAM, LINKEDIN, and TWITTER. ----- ABOUT JES Jes Averhart is the CEO of Jes & Co. and creator of the Reinvention Roadmap! As a Mom, Storyteller, Podcaster, and member of a Badass Girl Tribe, she uses her flaws and lessons to fuel each incredible life chapter! Jes is obsessed with the process and power of REINVENTION and wants to inspire others to start their journey. Jes realized her true passion for leadership development and women's empowerment while leading partner engagement at the American Underground, a Google for Startups Tech Hub (aka, the 'Startup Capital of the South' by CNBC). During her tenure, she had the unique opportunity to manage relationships with Google, Fidelity Labs, Wells Fargo, Coastal Credit Union, Lincoln Financial, and others. Her time spent immersed in the startup scene also inspired her to co-found Black Wall Street Homecoming, a nonprofit aimed at closing the funding gap for Black and Brown tech founders. Earlier in her career, Jes launched a boutique event production company. She specialized in providing professional event management services for the likes of the Cincinnati Bengals & Cleveland Browns (NFL), Cleveland Cavaliers (NBA), The Procter & Gamble Company, Pepsi Cola North America, as well as a growing number of companies based in the Research Triangle Park. Originally from Evansport, Ohio, Jes learned the ropes quickly by working in the family's real estate, auctioneering, and appraisal business. After college, she accepted a corporate role with General Electric; but it didn't take long before she started her own company, making her a 4th generation entrepreneur. Jes moved to North Carolina in 2005 devoting much of her time serving on various nonprofit boards, writing, cheering on The Ohio State Buckeyes, and globe-trotting. But without question, her greatest gift is her teenage son Tre who helps keep all things in perspective! ABOUT REINVENTION ROADMAP The truth is, whether we realize it or not, reinvention is inevitable and recurring. The question is, are you in the driver's seat or a passive bystander in the next chapter of your story. We've all been through countless moments that qualify as “reinventions.” If you were fully present in these moments, you probably became a little more grounded and began to believe in the possibility of more. The Reinvention Roadmap Course allows you to discover the next BEST version of you. The art of reinvention should be exciting and full of wonder and curiosity. The process should be fun, insightful, and full of introspection…. Reinvention is not by accident…it's by design.
If we took passive approaches to our careers and lives, we'd look at job postings and see what we fit into. But if we took assertive approaches, we'd ask ourselves what we want to accomplish in life, where we want to be, what we want work to look like for us, and what first step we can take to get there. In her book Reinvention Roadmap, author Liz Ryan calls this step "getting altitude" — and it's a key step in taking back your life. December can be an especially nerve-wracking month at work, not only because the year is ending but because the winter holiday season can create extra stress and unpleasantness -- even between co-workers. Some people celebrate holidays at this time of year, some people don't and everybody has their own feelings and expectations about the end-of-year period. Some people are excited about it, and others aren't. During December people can easily stumble over appropriate seasonal greetings, sentiments and terminology. There is constant risk of awkwardness around socializing, gift-giving and even cubicle decoration. Here are ten new "rules" to follow during the holiday season, to preserve harmony (and sanity) on your team! 1. Please don't shove your kids' fundraising candy sales down your co-workers' throats. Your colleagues may adore you and your children but they may already know where every penny of their holiday budget is going. If you want to promote your kid's fundraising cookie sale, put up a poster in the break room. Don't sell people at their desks. No one should have to fend off sales pitches at work. 2. Please don't try to drag anyone to your holiday service, pageant or concert. Everybody is overbooked in December. Do not put anyone in the awkward social position of having to make up a conflict to save them from your holiday service, pageant or concert. If you make people aware of your outside-of-work performances and gatherings and they want to go, they will let you know. 3. Don't force your employees to go to the company holiday party if they don't want to. If you have a party during work hours, give your employees the opportunity to go home early or get some shopping done instead of sticking around for merriment if they're not into it. If the party is after work hours, ditto. 4. Don't get drunk at your company's holiday party. This one is obvious but people still do it. 5. Don't make your employees participate in Secret Santa activities if that's not their cup of tea. Nobody should be forced into any "fun" workplace activity, because the minute they are forced to participate it's not fun anymore. I love a cookie exchange as much as the next person but I want to be invited to join in -- not compelled to. 6. Don't give your boss a holiday gift. It's nice of you to think of doing that but it puts your boss in an awkward position. Get a sweet potted plant for the office, instead! 7. Respect the fact that not everybody gets into the holiday spirit, or wants to. Some people have a tough time around the holidays. It is fun to be merry and festive at work but it's even more important to be sensitive to everyone around you. 8. Remember to thank your co-workers, vendors and customers for their support over the past year. It's amazing how a tiny word of thanks can brighten someone's day. 9. Give everybody the benefit of the doubt in December. We are all carrying a heavy load. The end of the year can be chaotic and stressful even for happy-go-lucky people. Don't assume that someone used the wrong holiday greeting to offend you -- that's highly unlikely. Think the best of everyone. That's the only way to stay cool and calm yourself when things get hectic! 10. Finally, be good to yourself. It is easy to over-commit, overextend yourself and criticize yourself as the year comes to a close. Take a moment and remember all the good things you accomplished, learned, experienced and discovered in 2017. You are a superstar, whether you admit it or not -- celebrate your awesomeness for a minute, before you dive into 2018! Liz Ryan is CEO/founder of Human Workplace and author of Reinvention Roadmap.
