Adrien Paczosa is a Registered and Licensed Dietitian practicing in Austin, Texas and the surrounding counties. She is the chief clinical officer & Founder of usenourish.com, the founder of I Live Well Nutrition and is also the founder of Fearless Practitioners, a business that offers training to dietitians and wellness professionals. Adrien says, "I LOVE helping practitioners like you grow a reliable and sustainable income with their practice." And in this conversation, Adrien shares with us why she is happy she was naive enough to even try working in this space when she first started. She also gives us some good advice about how to partner with technology companies. Working with people with eating disorders is one of Adrien's specialties and she explains why she enjoys that work and how a dietician can really help people in that situation. She also digs into how collaborating with a health coach can be so helpful. She says “It takes a village to help a patient.” We couldn't agree more.
In this conversation with Registered Dietitian Adrien Paczosa we dive into the neuro-biochemistry behind food and its connection to aspects of mental health. Listen in for why carbs play such an important role and the lesser-known surprise benefits of potassium-rich foods! Adrien is the Chief Clinical Officer and Founder of the tele-nutrition company Nourish and host of the podcast Fearless Practitioners. In the show, we have a nice chat about the value of these two areas in which she practices too! Listen in to learn more. Here is the link to her handout on food and mood! https://www.usenourish.com/food-and-mood More about Adrien: Adrien Paczosa (RD, LD, CDERD-S) has more than 20 years of experience working in the dietetic field with a focus on eating disorders, neurochemistry nutrition, and business development. In 2007, Paczosa founded and opened her first private practice in Austin, Texas called iLiveWell Nutrition. Paczosa combined evidence-based nutrition science with a compassionate approach to counseling patients to deliver health outcomes and improve patients' day-to-day lives. She has personally counseled hundreds of patients ranging from severe eating disorder cases to diabetics to high- performance athletes. A few years later, iLiveWell Nutrition has become Nourish — a nationwide, virtual-first nutrition group focused on addressing America's healthcare crisis through greater access to nutrition care. Paczosa now serves as the Chief Clinical Officer of Nourish and what started out as just an idea now serves thousands of patients, nearly all of whom use the service via telehealth and are completely covered by their health insurance. Adrien Pocszosa RD, LD, CEDRD-S is the Chief Clinical Officer of Nourish - a national tele-nutrition company with all anti-diet dietitians - and host of Fearless Practitioners. Adrien is passionate about making good quality, weight neutral care accessible to all. She started out her own small private practice which grew into what it is today - Nourish. You will hear throughout this episode how she put her fear aside and built up a huge company. What does it mean to build an authentic brand? Do you have a clear picture of your brand and does that align with your authentic self? Those are some big things to think through and tackle as an owner, and a lot of time can be missed. In today's session, I chat with Morgan Sinclair. We will learn how to show up as your authentic brand and build up a business. ABOUT MORGAN SINCLAIR A Texas gal who loves routine just as much as spontaneity. Morgan is a Type 7 enthusiast (hi, enneagram), feel-your-feelings, dessert-before-dinner kinda human. Once upon a time she worked as an eating disorder dietitian (yep, I can totally speak your lingo!), but one day decided she wanted to build brands and websites and she hasn't stopped learning since. Morgan doesn't believe in failures. She does believe in community over competition. She was once voted "most likely to be five lattes deep before 5am." Her biggest strength is being an activator, which is a fancy way of saying she's good at starting things - an implementer and go-getter - and is her zone of genius in supporting you in creating your online presence. The things that bring her the most joy in life are: eating different foods around the world, watching The Holiday on repeat, wearing pink lipstick, impulsively buying plane tickets, and being constantly curious. TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS EPISODE: If you are speaking to everyone, then you are speaking to no one Tapping into external pain points What's your goal for social media? Do you know your strengths or, better yet, do you know your weaknesses? We can all rattle off things we need to work on, yet do you know your gifts? This one can be hard for a few of us at times. In today's show, I chat with Robin Plotkin about her career journey and how she followed her strengths and passions to build her career. ABOUT ROBIN PLOTKIN Today, what sets Robin apart from other professionals in her field is the way she's able to connect with, well, everyone. To those that know her well, Robin is the every-dietitian. What does that mean? It means she's at ease working with moms, consumers, media professionals, doctors and nurses, chefs, marketing executives and fifth-graders. What's more, Robin truly wants to be having conversations and building relationships about food and health with all these people — helping them to build confidence in themselves, support their product and promote their talent. Many of Robin's people skills and her entrepreneurial spirit go back to her roots. When she was younger her family owned — and still owns — a floor covering business. It was the enterprising spirit of her family, Robin says, that made her realize that she “just couldn't see myself doing the same thing day after day.” As a result, Robin wears many hats. She's fluent in event management, media relations and brand and product ambassadorship. She advises chefs, develops recipes and helps reporters focus their food and health stories. She helps companies expand and amplify their product goals and reputation with social media outreach. And, as a prolific blogger, she helps busy families find everyday solutions to leading healthier lives through her personal blog, Robin's Bite, where she's been blogging since 2009. In short, she's a recognized leader in her industry, with an unparalleled skillset and wide depth and breadth of knowledge. In the spirit of her entrepreneurial family, she takes each day as a new beginning, a new challenge. “Being multi-faceted allows me to bring different perspectives to each of my clients in a unique way that they wouldn't otherwise be exposed to — and that's something they appreciate.” TOPICS DISCUSSED IN THIS EPISODE: How to know your strengths and allow that to guide your career Write down 3 things and start there when building your business Find your community and mentor Have a plan and stick to it MORE FROM ROBIN PLOTKIN Website (Note: Listen to the podcast and learn how to receive 15% off off coaching) Instagram Website #2 (Note: Listen to the podcast and learn how to receive 15% off a virtual Charcuterie Board class) Instagram #2 iLiveWell Nutrition and Therapy We Empower individuals to optimize their unique healthy body plan through food and nutrition, and provide access to Registered Dietitians for all who seek qualified nutrition professionals. How well do you know your client’s struggles and pain points? This episode of the Fearless Practitioners podcast welcomes guest Travis Zigler, optometrist and co-founder of Eye Love, who shares his journey of building a successful online company by really listening to the needs of his audience. The power of listening to your audience and really taking all their feedback and their pain points to heart can transform your brick and mortar practice into a larger mission. That is what Travis Zigler did, and in this week's show we hear how he and his wife and co-founder Jenna Zigler, did just that. As an optometrist and an entrepreneur, he highly valued the skill of really listening to the pain points of his community. What he continued to see inside his clinics inspired him to take that main pain point to a larger platform to help and serve more people. Travis also shares some great tips on how you can take what your clients are saying and serve them on a whole new level, to grow your business. ABOUT TRAVIS AND EYE LOVE Travis and Jenna Zigler started Eye Love in May of 2015 with the ultimate goal being to build permanent clinics in areas that have no access to quality eye care. As active members of Great Shape, Inc, and more specifically the iCARE project, they travel to Jamaica every year to give eye examinations and dispense eyeglasses. On this week's Mental Note I am sharing with you an interview that I recently did with Adrien Paczosa on her show Fearless Practitioners. I wanted to share this conversation with you because in it, I share more about the inspiration behind this podcast and why I am passionate about being an advocate for black and brown females, especially in regards to their mental health. I also talk about my non-profit Glass Seats and how I was inspired to create it based off of my experience in corporate America. Before becoming a therapist, I spent twenty years in another field, and through that experience I have become passionate about helping young women who may feel limited in the opportunities available to them. Adrien also asked me about how I am able to balance so many things and still manage to oversee a successful mental health practice. We talk about the importance of self care, how I utilize something called the "power hour", and why I personally schedule in naps! Another important piece to this conversation is when we talked about asking yourself the question "who am I" and being able to answer that honestly. In order to find the courage to do the things we feel called to do, it requires that we take a deep look inwards and come face to face with who we really see ourselves as. This is a powerful conversation for those who are wanting to step out of their comfort zones, take more action, and lean into who they know they are on the inside. Please let me know what you think about this episode and how we can serve you better. Have you harnessed the power of word of mouth marketing to grow and leverage your private practice? This episode of the Fearless Practitioners podcast discusses this tried and true method and my own experiences with it. Word of mouth marketing… an ancient rabbit hole OR the secret sauce to create a sustainable, successful private practice? What do you think? Well, I let you know exactly what I think about word of mouth marketing and how you can utilize it to leverage your private practice. I discuss the what, why, how, and when of this marketing technique and, as always, provide you actionable steps to begin implementing this today. Word of mouth marketing might not appear as sexy as digital, social, and email marketing because it’s becoming less and less common and seemingly requires extra effort. But, in reality, this marketing technique is a reliable, validated, and timeless strategy for businesses, especially dietetic private practices. In this episode, not only do I showcase my own unique experiences with word of mouth marketing, I also highlight the main drivers of this marketing technique, discuss why asking for reviews or testimonials is paramount, and the power of referrals. If you feel stuck with digital marketing or just desire more clients, as we all do, you won’t want to miss this insightful episode. Are you trying to make a shift in your practice, but dealing with fear of change? Don't miss this episode of the Fearless Practitioners podcast with my guest Stephanie Clairmont as she shares her journey of transition. Does the idea of changing paths in your career scare you? Many of us enter the job field in one area but transition into another area, even if it is simply a different concentration within the same field. Well, our guest, Stephanie, did just this, and boy did she benefit! Ultimately, these cooking classes sparked her transition from GI health into coaching and mentoring other health entrepreneurs. Stephanie shares not only how she spontaneously, yet, intentionally achieved this, and also provides some of her best organizational, marketing, and launching skills and tricks. She reminds us that change and magic happen when we are vulnerable, and Stephanie encourages us to continually learn and expand, but to always make sure you also take action. In what ways will you take action after listening to this episode? I’d love to hear your answer! In this episode of the Fearless Practitioners podcast, I chat with Vanessa Scaringi, PhD, about how she cultivated her authentic self into her marketing, and the difference that made. She also shares some innovative ideas that her group counseling practice is doing to build up the community and to support other professionals. “Everything we do can be an opportunity when you lead with being genuine and in alignment with your values.” ~ Vanessa Scaringi ABOUT VANESSA, PhD Vanessa is a licensed psychologist in Austin, Texas who works with adolescents, young adults, as well as adult populations. She provides individual, group, and family therapy. She works with her clients to help them achieve a greater sense of awareness so that they may identify patterns and behaviors that interfere with living the life they want. Vanessa also strives to instill a sense of hope, as she believes this is an important part of the process. Her work centers on developing a safe and collaborative environment where clients feel comfortable discussing difficult aspects of their lives. While creating this type of setting is at the root of much of Vanessa’s clinical work, she also integrates theoretical approaches that help clients become more self-aware. It is through the process of developing awareness and insight that change can occur. She also believes in the importance of utilizing evidence-based behavioral approaches that can facilitate the change process. [click_to_tweet tweet="What’s your best version of marketing? Today's episode discusses the importance of finding joy and purpose in your practice, with guest Kori Kostka. Having a practice that you love is something we talk a lot about in the Fearless Practitioners community. In today's show I chat with Kori Kostka about how she wanted to find a better way to be herself as a practitioner and show up for her clients. Kori discusses how she got clear on how she wanted to practice, shifted her mindset, and overcame those limiting thoughts that come from comparing herself to others. Learn how she followed her passion and cultivated joy and purpose in her practice, and how you can begin that process in your practice too. ABOUT KORI My name is Kori Kostka and I have been a Registered Dietitian for 10 years! I started off as your typical meal planning RD, working on an acute medical floor in a hospital, but quickly realized I needed more, just like my clients. I shifted into primary care where I fell even more in love with counselling. Overcoming my own fears and blocks of starting and running a business, after two failed attempts, I finally made the move to start up my online mindful eating business, where I coach clients mindful eating but also other Registered Dietitians on how to coach mindful eating and how to use motivational interviewing. I just added a new program “Attracting Clients to your Weight Neutral Practice”, which I am super excited to share to help RDs who practice Health At Every Size® gain momentum in our diet-obsessed culture. On today’s show, Adrien reminds us how taking action daily in our private practice is truly a game changer. This is what Fearless Practitioners is all about! As practitioners we are always learning in our practice area and constantly staying on top of new research. Learning is wonderful and please never stop soaking up knowledge. The flip side to all the learning is doing something with the newly gained knowledge. Personally, I would get so frustrated with myself that I would attend a conference or a webinar and learn amazing things, and do nothing with it. This got me to think about all the things I learn about business and the same thing; no wonder I was not growing. Taking small steps daily in my practice is what truly has been a game changer for me!
