Overcoming Loss & Fighting Epilepsy With Music | Michael Gomoll Joey Gomoll died in 2010, just shy of his 5th birthday, after battling a rare form of epilepsy called Dravet's Syndrome his entire life. Upon his passing, his family started a charity called Joey's Song to help raise money to fund research grants focused on finding treatments and cures for rare, intractable, pediatric epilepsies. In the 15-plus years since Joey's death, Joey's Song has grown from a few acoustic guitars in a sports bar to a multi-day concert series featuring Grammy winners and Rock n Roll Hall of Famers (Members of bands like Cheap Trick, Guns N Roses, The Go-Go's, The Bangles, Tears For Fears, Garbage, Portugal. The Man, Goo Goo Dolls, Eve 6, Everclear and many more). This amazing collection of musicians gathers every January in Madison, WI. They volunteer their time and talent, and form a series of supergroups throughout the weekend for a one-of-a-kind concert event.Since its inception, Joey's Song has been a part of over $ 2 million raised and has had over 10,000 attendees in just the last two years.Links:https://www.joeyssong.org/https://www.instagram.com/joeyssongTagspodcast for creatives, creative podcast, podcast creator interviews, professional podcast, creative podcasts, podcast host interviews, creative podcast ideas,Child Loss, epilepsy,Event Management,Family,Fundraising,Live Music,Music Festivals,Music Interviews,Music Production,Overcoming AdversitySupport PEG by checking out our Sponsors:Download and use Newsly for free now from www.newsly.me or from the link in the description, and use promo code “GHOST” and receive a 1-month free premium subscription. The best tool for getting podcast guests:https://podmatch.com/signup/phantomelectricghostSubscribe to our Instagram for exclusive content:https://www.instagram.com/expansive_sound_experiments/Subscribe to our YouTube https://youtube.com/@phantomelectricghost?si=rEyT56WQvDsAoRprRSShttps://anchor.fm/s/3b31908/podcast/rssSubstackhttps://substack.com/@phantomelectricghost?utm_source=edit-profile-page

On the final day of the Monsters of Rock Cruise, Eddie Trunk welcomes Jeff Scott Soto, Jason Bieler, and David Ellison for an engaging discussion about their musical collaborations and individual projects. The trio talks about Saigon Kick's recent performances with Jeff on vocals, replacing the original singer while maintaining the band's authentic sound. David shares updates on his work with Metal Church and Kings of Thrash, while Jeff discusses his successful run with Trans-Siberian Orchestra and his remarkable recovery from knee replacement surgery. After that, members of Queensrÿche join Eddie to discuss their unique position straddling both metal and progressive rock genres. Todd La Torre shares insights about his vocal approach and maintaining his voice after 14 years with the band, while Michael Wilton and Eddie Jackson talk about their side projects and the band's musical DNA. Then, Michael Sweet of Stryper sits down with Eddie to discuss the band's increasingly heavy sound, which even impressed Sebastian Bach. Sweet provides an update on his cancer battle and shares news about Stryper's 18th studio album coming in September. Last but not least, Davy Vain joins to talk about his band's raw, attitude-driven sound, their production approach on the classic 'No Respect' album, and their upcoming show at the Whisky a Go Go in September. Vain also shares how Aerosmith's 'Rocks' album changed his musical direction. Chris’s Summary Jim and I discuss income annuities in retirement as a lead-in to National Annuity Awareness Month, using a Fidelity Viewpoints article to frame the discussion. We walk through the article's points on essential expenses, paycheck-like income, and management simplicity later in retirement. We also distinguish traditional income annuities from more complex annuity products and address liquidity, inflation protection, insurance company risk, and death-benefit trade-offs. Jim’s “Pithy” Summary Chris and I use a Fidelity Viewpoints article on income annuities in retirement to get an early start on National Annuity Awareness Month. The article points out that an income annuity may help when Social Security and pensions do not fully cover essential expenses, may provide some peace of mind around income that lasts for life, and may make retirement easier to manage later on. Those are not new ideas around here! Those essential expenses the article discusses is what we refer to as the Minimum Dignity Floor: food, utilities, transportation, housing, and healthcare. If Social Security and pensions do not fully cover those expenses, a simple income annuity may be worth understanding because if the basics are projected to outlast the income already in place, the question deserves more than a knee-jerk yes or no. We also spend time on what happens when the paycheck stops. People can have plenty of money and still miss the safety of income showing up on schedule. That is where the bottomless cup of coffee idea comes back in, and why spending during the Go-Go years can feel different when the basics are covered. Chris also gets into the simplicity point: aging, confidence, fraud risk, and why the older you, or a surviving spouse, may not want every decision tied to a portfolio. We also get into the article's trade-offs, including loss of liquidity, lack of inflation protection, insurance company credit risk, and what happens if someone dies earlier than expected. Clem Burke joined Blondie in 1975. He started writing his memoir 20 years ago and just managed to finish it before he died in 2025, encouraged and assisted by his old friend Kathy Valentine of the Go-Go's, “a chance to reflect on all he'd achieved”. We're thrilled she's joined us here to talk about his dramatic life and ‘The Other Side of the Dream', a conversation stopping off at … … falling for her “teenage crush” when she saw Blondie on TV, the man who wore red shoes at his audition … Clem Burke, eternal fan who idolised the Beatles, Bowie and the Stooges, and the brief moment he became Elvis Ramone ... do bands talk to each other?… Blondie was not a democracy … “in fact bands are an example of how democracy doesn't work” … Clem's powerhouse drumming and showmanship: “you couldn't take your eyes off him” … “the night we met we each had a limo and he introduced me to Andy Warhol” … how it felt to hear Blondie record one of her songs … how their lives connected: “we both achieved a dream and had it taken away from us” … why drummers tend to see groups differently … and life in the Go-Go's - “married to four girls!” Order copies of Clem Burke's ‘The Other Side of the Dream: My Life in And Out of Blondie' here: https://lnk.to/theothersideofthedreamHelp us to keep The Longest Continuous Conversation In Rock going: https://www.patreon.com/wordinyourear Hosted on Acast. Planet Terror (2007) Directed by Robert Rodriguez Starring: Rose McGowan, Freddy Rodriguez, Josh Brolin, Jeff FaheyIf you haven't seen Planet Terror yet, Sean has a message for you: turn this podcast off right now and go watch it. We'll wait. This week on Dewey Pod Monster, we're diving deep into Robert Rodriguez's gloriously unhinged 2007 grindhouse masterpiece — a movie about zombie mutants, a go-go dancer with a machine gun for a leg, and somehow the best barbecue scene ever committed to film. John has seen this thing approximately 15 times in a theater (yes, really), and Sean just watched it for the first time and immediately felt like an idiot for waiting this long. The result is one of the most enthusiastic, borderline unhinged episode we've recorded. In this episode, we discuss:Go-Go, Not Stripper — The level of detail Rodriguez packed into this movie is insane, and John will correct you on the terminology. We break down why Planet Terror works as both a loving grindhouse homage AND as a legitimately great horror-comedy, and why so many modern movies fail to pull off what this one does effortlessly.Jeff Fahey Tastes His Own Blood and Gives Zero F*s — We make the case that Jeff Fahey is the unsung MVP of this film and the entire Rodriguez universe. The man is covered in wounds, tasting his own blood dripping into his barbecue sauce, and somehow STILL delivering the performance of a lifetime. He deserved an award. He got nothing. We're still mad.The Kid Shoots Himself and We Laughed. Sorry. — Rodriguez had the absolute audacity to telegraph exactly what was going to happen and then do it anyway, and somehow it's one of the funniest moments in the movie. We discuss why it works, why we're both going to hell, and why the movie is smart enough not to dwell on it.The Missing Reel is Cinema — The sex scene that cuts to everything being on fire is a stroke of genius, and we get into why Rodriguez's use of fake film damage and missing reels is more than just a gimmick — it's the best scene transition in the whole damn movie. We Also Talked About:At the Video Store (2019) (Amazon) — A nostalgic documentary about the death of video store culture featuring John Waters, Bill Hader, Gus Van Sant, and Todd Haynes. Sean's watched a suspicious number of these. The Last Ride (1991) (Tubi) — An AIP gem where a crazed truck driver terrorizes a recently released ex-con. Everyone is dubbed. The best line involves a shit pot. It's incredible.Massacre in Dinosaur Valley (1985) (Tubi) — An Italian jungle adventure featuring an alligator that genuinely does not want to be in this movie. The quicksand looks like oatmeal. John watched it before a Tigers game.Against the Dark (2009) (Tubi) — Steven Seagal in a trench coat "fighting" vampire zombies. Keith David shows up to collect a check. John stayed awake for all 90 minutes and regrets nothing and everything.Untold: The Jail Blazers (Netflix) — The chaotic story of the early 2000s Portland Trail Blazers. John doesn't really follow basketball but watched the whole thing. It's an easy hour. Some of the above links are affiliate links — if you purchase through them we get a small kickback, and it's the best way to support the show.New episodes of the Dewey Pod Monster podcast drop every week. Many horror stories become our favorite laughbale memories thanks to the gift of time, and Austin alt-rock pop group BOO85 (boo-eighty-five) articulate this well in their new single “Funny Story,” where the mantra is “sit with it, laugh at it, relinquish it.” Emphasized with layered, catchy pop-rock hooks, Go-Go’s -like vocals and harmonies and enough […] The post BOO85: “Funny Story” appeared first on KUT & KUTX Studios -- Podcasts.

There are noteworthy changes in every decade of modern music, but the seismic shifts and chaos of the 1990s were unparalleled. Whether it was the music of your youth, your kids' youth, your parents' youth or even your grandparents' youth, most everyone has noticed (either at the time or now, in retrospect) that the '90s were just different. It was the decade that saw Generation X hand over the music reins to millennials. MTV went from a driving force in music to more of a footnote, and music videos lost importance in the gap years between emphasis on cable channels and the advent of YouTube and streaming in the 2000s. Stylistically, hip-hop was a juggernaut, swinging from gangsta rap to a mainstream phenomenon that permeated into R&B, pop and even rock. Also, fueled by the momentum of Madonna in the 1980s, pop in the 1990s became dominated by women artists - with Whitney Houston, Mariah Carey and Celine Dion taking turns at the top of the charts, and wholesome teen singers like Debbie Gibson and Tiffany, who ushered the genre into the 1990s, had been replaced by decidedly less wholesome singers like Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera by decade's end. Latin artists also became permanent fixtures in the mainstream, and thanks to Garth Brooks, country reinvented itself into yet another huge crossover genre, with "hat acts" ruling the roost in the mainstream. And in rock music, huge shifts came in waves. The "hair metal" bands that controlled rock in the late 1980s were all but wiped out by grunge in the early 1990s, flipping the genre's script from mindless, flashy formula pop-with-guitars to something far more introspective, anxious and angry. But grunge was at the forefront for only a few year, and soon enough all manner of "modern rock," "alt-rock" and "college rock" bands - from Weezer to Radiohead to Beck - brought freshness and ingenuity to the sonic landscape. Meanwhile, the 1990s saw the rise of traveling mega-festivals such as Lollapalooza to the Vans Warped Tour. And the Lilith Fair emphasized the unprecedented prominence of women in rock, who came in hard with gritty sounds and raw self-assuredness beyond the jangly pop-rock of 1980s bands like The Go-Go's and The Bangles. This week on "How We Heard It," your hosts - who were young men in the 1990s and at Ground Zero in the music business - shine a light on what was going on in the tumultuous 1990s and how everything seemed to forever change, across the board, in music.

Daniel Pearl, A.S.C. is best known for his cinematography work on various horror films including The Texas Chain Saw Massacre (1974). He has worked on many feature films, over 400 music videos and more than 250 commercials. Some other notable films that he shot include the remake of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2003), Invaders from Mars (1986), Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007), Friday the 13th (2009), The Boy (2016) and Mom and Dad (2017). Some of the most notable music videos he worked on include Michael Jackson's "Billie Jean", Guns 'N Roses' "November Rain" and Meatloaf's "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That). He won the first MTV cinematography award for "Every Breath You Take" by The Police. He's worked with a record amount of artists in the industry including Billy Idol, Bette Midler, The Go-Go's, Mariah Carey, Ed Sheeran and Usher. Pearl filmed the Michael Bay-directed Meatloaf video, "I'd Do Anything for Love (But I Won't Do That)", which he cites as "one of my personal all-time favorite projects ... I think the cinematography is pure, and it tells a story about the song." Michael Bay would later produce the 2003 Chainsaw remake and their collaborations continued on for years. More films in Pearl's catalogue include Zapped! (1982), Pathfinder (2007) and The Apparition (2012). He worked with Larry Cohen on a number of projects including Full Moon High (1981), It's Alive III: Island of the Alive (1987) and A Return to Salem's Lot (1987).
Chris’s Summary Jim and I discuss the Safe Withdrawal Rate as a projection tool before retirement, but not as the distribution tool we would use for many retirees. We address Bill Bengen's research, the 1968 retiree scenario, Monte Carlo planning, and why a worst-case floor can limit early retirement spending on fun. We also contrast accumulation planning with distribution planning and explain how the See Through Portfolio helps separate different retirement spending needs. Jim’s “Pithy” Summary Chris and I discuss why we think Bill Bengen's research has real value, while still believing the Safe Withdrawal Rate is the wrong tool once the rubber meets the road in retirement. His work helped advisors move away from unrealistic withdrawal rates, and it can be useful for people still in the accumulation phase who are trying to see if they are on track. But once someone reaches retirement, especially with only so many Go-Go years ahead, I think the tool has to change. The part I don't like is when the industry takes a worst-case historical number and turns it into the anchor for everyone. Chris and I talk about Bengen's own comments, Monte Carlo probability statistics, and why software can make this kind of planning look cleaner than it really is. That may work for some people, especially if the goal is to leave the biggest portfolio possible, but that is not the same as helping someone spend with more clarity while they still have the health, desire, and ability to do so. That is where our process separates the money allocated for needs, reserves, and later-life planning from the money available for fun. Minimum Dignity Floor, SEAL Reserve, and the Fun Number help frame those dollars differently instead of treating retirement as one big portfolio with one smooth withdrawal path. You are not getting younger, stronger, or healthier, and most people’s retirement goals don’t include being the wealthiest person in the graveyard. The post Is The Safe Withdrawal Rate Useful? Nikki Corvette in conversation with David Eastaugh https://www.facebook.com/nikki.corvette/ This Detroit punk-pop outfit – formed in 1977 – was led by the Nikki Corvette and guitarist Peter James. They had a sound somewhere between The Go-Go's and The Ramones, with bubblegum teenage libido maxed out with a dose of The Shangri La's. Led by a “new wave Betty Boop,” to quote one review, this group offered great sounds and sex appeal. Combining those undeniable elements of energy and enthusiasm. The group disbanded in 1981, though Nikki returned in the 21st century as Nikki Corvette & The Stingrays – a band incorporating Travis Ramin on guitar, Georgia Peach on bass and Johnny O'Halloran on drums.
On this episode of the MalloryBros. Podcast, the bros kick things off with the Weekend Recap before Terrance finally gives his thoughts after seeing Marty Supreme. They then dive into the conversation surrounding Meg and Klay's breakup, which sparked another men vs women debate on the TL. That leads into a deeper discussion as Terrance shares his perspective on dating female rappers, marriage, and expectations, followed by a conversation on the growing “I Don't Need A Man” ideology. Later, the bros shift gears to talk about why film literacy feels like it's dying and what responsibility audiences have in keeping it alive. They also react to Michael dominating the box office, critics' responses, and the news of a sequel already being greenlit. They lighten things up with some GoGo love, run through a segment of universally controversial takes, and close out with some 301 DMV love. Follow Us on Twitter @MalloryBros9 for all updates! "Obviously Five Believers" Formed in 1980 by the Kentucky-born former roadie for X, Top Jimmy, his band Top Jimmy and the Rhythm Pigs were local L.A. heroes. Playing a wicked blend of American roots music and scrappy R&B, Top Jimmy and the Rhythm Pigs were a band that sizzled with equal parts howl and groove. Top Jimmy was a wildly charismatic frontman once described as an unholy combination of Howlin' Wolf and Shakespeare's Falstaff and he was such a ubiquitous presence in L.A. his outfit was once dubbed the scene's punk house band. The live show, which was a sweaty, frenetic blast of sweaty, rootsy bliss, found everyone from Tom Waits to Stevie Ray Vaughn joining them onstage. By the way, if you're wondering if the Van Halen track "Top Jimmy" is about the Top Jimmy I'm speaking of, let me just say this: there could only be one Top Jimmy. So: yes. The band's only album Pigus Drunkus Maximus which came out in 1987 on Steve Wynn of the Dream Syndicate's Down There label, was just reissued for the first time ever on CD and on pig pink colored vinyl and it's an essential addition to your record collection. Top Jimmy sang with Maria McKee and Phil Alvin, was seen getting a tattoo from John Doe in the Decline of Western Civilization and hung out with David Lee Roth. The guy was everywhere and remains, to this day, one of the most charismatic characters in rock and roll history. As for his sax player Steve Berlin, well, Mr. Berlin after leaving the band, went on to become one of the greatest rock and roll sax players ever. The Philadelphia born Berlin is a full time member of Los Lobos, and the list of people he's played with and produced is just ridiculous. Let me give you a partial list: The Tragically Hip, R.E.M., Faith No More, the Go-Go's, Great Big Sea, The Replacements, Rickie Lee Jones and the Beat Farmers. And believe me, I could go on. An unbelievable player of steady finesse and power, Steve Berlin is an absolute legend and I wish this conversation could have gone on for hours. www.topjimmyandtherhythmpigs.bandcamp.com (http://www.topjimmyandtherhythmpigs.bandcamp.com) www.bombshellradio.com (http://www.bombshellradio.com) www.stereoembersmagazine.com (http://www.stereoembersmagazine.com) www.alexgreenbooks.com (http://www.alexgreenbooks.com) Threads + Bluesky + Instagram: @emberspodcast Email: editor@stereoembersmagazine.com

It's time to dance again! and this week our dance card starts with The Capitols' 1966 hit "Cool Jerk." Erik has a hard time getting over the song's origins and we both blow a gasket over D. Storball's high octane vocal performance. The Creation mod-ified the song the next year and then it's fast forward to the 80s to hear The Go-Go's sprightly rendition. We found a pretty wild, high school drama club version by the excellently named Seekers of Justice (shout out to Miss Brown!) ... then more 80s cheeze with The California Raisins (add some celery and you've got ants on a log!) ... the latest version comes from this year by some DJ who we aren't convinced is a real person. Smokin'!!

In this episode of RulaskaThoughts, Joe and Robert dive into the Season 18 Snatch Game and the fallout that followed. From Mikey Meek's Drew Barrymore to the format change debate, the boys break down what worked, what didn't, and why some queens just can't recover from a catastrophic performance — no matter how strong the lip sync. They also tackle the online discourse, discuss whether Snatch Game needs the panel format restored, and revisit the age-old question: is a lip sync really a battle… or is it RuPaul's final confirmation? Plus, Robert makes a few unexpected pivots (including one you definitely clocked). — EPISODE HIGHLIGHTS • Snatch Game reactions: Mikey Meek's standout Drew Barrymore • Why Discord's pope performance sparked debate • Nini Coco's David Attenborough and the Aussie confusion • The problem with the Bitchler format vs. the classic panel • Mia Starr's elimination — was it already decided? • Lip sync philosophy: “Impress me” vs. “Beat her” • The Go-Go's song choice and why it didn't build • Online reactions and Reddit's alternate reality • The “Do you even like the show?” Patreon moment • Excoriate-gate — FINAL THOUGHTS A solid, entertaining outing for Season 18, even if the format tweaks continue to divide. As always, the question isn't just who wins — it's what kind of drag the show rewards. — Follow the show on Patreon for bonus content and extended conversations.
