Ready for deeper support? Work with me 1:1: https://trueinnerfreedom.com/working-together/ Are you trying to "be brave" with your trauma—only to end up flooded, wired, shut down, or ashamed for being "too sensitive"? If you're a highly sensitive person, you've probably been told that healing means going all the way in—feeling everything intensely and pushing through the pain. But what if that approach is exactly what's overwhelming your nervous system? HSPs make up 15–20% of the population, and our nervous systems are wired for depth, subtlety, and detail—not overload. When we force trauma processing through intensity, we don't heal faster… we retraumatize ourselves. That can lead to insomnia, irritability, shutdown, relationship strain, and the painful belief that our sensitivity is the problem. This episode unpacks why trauma feels more intense for HSPs—and what a truly safe, effective healing approach actually looks like. By listening, you'll gain: A clear understanding of why trauma activates highly sensitive nervous systems more quickly—and why that's not a weakness Insight into how "all-or-nothing" healing and perfectionism can quietly retraumatize you A practical, gentle framework for trauma work that builds capacity, regulation, and safety over time Press play now to learn how to heal your trauma in a way that feels steady, grounded, and safe—without overwhelming your nervous system. Ready for deeper support? Work with me 1:1: https://trueinnerfreedom.com/working-together/ What if the reason you feel invisible, resentful, or emotionally exhausted isn't because you're "too sensitive"… but because you've been quietly abandoning yourself for years? If you're a highly sensitive person, you likely pride yourself on being caring, perceptive, and easy to be around. But what if those beautiful strengths have slowly turned into self-erasure? Maybe you say yes when your body says no. Maybe you edit your truth mid-sentence. Maybe you feel responsible for other people's moods before you even consider your own. This episode unpacks the hidden stress pattern of chronic self-abandonment — and why so many HSPs default to protecting connection instead of protecting themselves. If you're tired of feeling emotionally fatigued, resentful, or unsure of who you even are anymore, this conversation will help you understand what's really happening beneath the surface. By listening, you'll: Recognize the subtle, everyday ways you override your own needs without realizing it Understand the nervous system wiring that makes harmony feel safer than honesty Learn what "internal structure" really means — and how to stay rooted in yourself without losing your compassion Press play now to discover how to stop disappearing in your relationships and finally stay grounded in your own truth — without giving up your empathy. In this episode, Alissa sits down with therapist and author April Snow to talk about writing books, being seen as a highly sensitive person, and building resilience in a world that isn't always HSP-friendly.They share what it's really like to write a full-length book (including the vulnerability of putting your words on a printed page), how confidence is built through discomfort, and why highly sensitive people are uniquely positioned to lead with empathy right now. From fawning and people-pleasing to navigating criticism, creative risks, and visibility online, this conversation is an honest look at what it takes to trust your voice, even when it feels scary. If you've ever held yourself back because you're “too sensitive,” this episode will challenge that narrative in the best way. You'll learn:Why highly sensitive people need more representation and resourcesThe healing power of being seen (especially after relational trauma)How to stop making visibility “about you” and anchor into purpose insteadWhy discomfort is unavoidable, and how to choose the empowering kindThe difference between confidence and arrogance for HSPsBuilding resilience without burning yourself outHow to create a “supportive bubble” that allows you to show up in the worldThe importance of reducing consumption to reconnect with your intuitionWhy HSPs are emotional leaders and changemakers in subtle but powerful waysConnect with April:https://www.sensitivestrengths.com https://www.instagram.com/sensitivestrengths https://www.tiktok.com/@sensitivestrengths https://www.youtube.com/@sensitivestrengthsSensitive Circles community: an online hub for HSPs to find meaningful connection without the noise of social media. https://www.sensitivestrengths.com/sensitive-circlesFollow Alissa on Substack: https://substack.com/@lifebyalissa Uncover your sneaky internal belief that's stopping you from being your most confident self TAKE The FREE Shadow Archetype Quiz NOWLearn my 6-step process for managing & neutralizing your triggers as an HSP in our FREE UN-Botherable Workshop!Join the Not Too Sensitive Club
If you've spent your whole life feeling “too sensitive,” overwhelmed by emotions, or constantly absorbing the atmosphere around you, this prophetic word is going to break some shackles! Many Christians have mislabeled themselves as empaths—and have strayed to New Age terminology, fiction, and paranormal language without knowing it. In this episode, Melia exposes the empath and HSP labels and deeper aspects that reveal the roots of Psychology, which keep people spiritually stuck, emotionally burdened, and disconnected from their true prophetic calling! A highly sensitive "feeler" in the prophetic operates very differently; a God‑designed wiring that discerns from the Holy Spirit, not man! What if the leadership advice to “push harder” and “toughen up” isn't motivation—but misalignment? In Healthy Mind, Healthy Life, hosted by Sayan, leadership coach Sira Laurel explores why so many capable leaders burn out—not because they're weak, but because the system was never designed for how they process the world. This episode is for highly sensitive professionals, neurodivergent leaders, and anyone feeling exhausted from “masking” at work. You'll walk away with a new lens: your sensitivity isn't a liability—it can be your greatest leadership advantage when the environment supports your nervous system. About the Guest: Sira Laurel is the founder of North of Normal and a leadership coach working at the intersection of neuro-leadership, organizational development, and behavioral science. She previously spent 15 years in corporate leadership and HR/OD roles, and her work is shaped by lived experience with sensitivity and burnout. Episode Chapters: 00:07:07 — The opening truth: when leadership advice works against your wiring 00:08:31 — Sira's burnout turning point and founding North of Normal 00:11:26 — What gets misunderstood about sensitive and neurodivergent leaders 00:16:22 — Why traditional leadership fails: assumptions about pace, processing, and recharge 00:19:21 — Reframing “too sensitive” and “overthinking” into leadership strengths 00:21:37 — The orchid, tulip, dandelion metaphor for work environments 00:25:27 — The weekly reflection: alignment vs assimilation Key Takeaways: Notice where you're masking emotions to fit “executive presence,” and what it costs you. Reframe “overthinking” as risk prevention and opportunity detection—a real business asset. Recognize that leadership models often assume everyone processes information the same way. Use the “orchid/tulip/dandelion” lens to identify what environment helps you thrive. Practice one honest check-in: Where am I in alignment vs assimilation this week? If you're sensitive, aim to be both the flower and the gardener—meet your needs on purpose. Not sure if it's sensitivity or stress? Take the HSP Stress Test here: https://trueinnerfreedom.com/hsp-stress-test/ Have you ever been told you're "overthinking" when you were actually just trying to understand something deeply? If you're a highly sensitive person, your need for depth can feel like both a gift and a burden. You pause before responding. You reflect before committing. You circle back to unresolved moments because you care about clarity and meaning. But in a fast-paced world that values speed over depth, that can get misread as drama, indecision, or "too much." Over time, those misinterpretations can quietly turn into self-doubt — and you may start questioning something that is actually one of your greatest strengths. In this Strategy Friday episode, we unpack why this happens and how to stop internalizing a misunderstanding that was never yours to carry. By listening, you'll: Understand the science behind the highly sensitive brain — and why depth of processing is a biological strength, not a flaw Learn how to tell the difference between healthy depth and anxious spiraling so you can trust your inner experience Discover practical ways to stay rooted in your insight and meaning-making without feeling alone or misunderstood Press play now to reclaim your depth as the strength it truly is — and stop letting misunderstanding turn into self-doubt. 207 If you've ever walked away from a conversation with your partner feeling more overwhelmed, more disconnected, or more upset than when you started — this episode is for you.In this conversation, we explore why so many well-intentioned attempts to “talk things through” actually escalate conflict instead of resolving it — especially for highly sensitive people. You'll learn what's really happening in your nervous system during moments of emotional intensity, why communication breaks down when safety drops, and the difference between processing an emotion and unintentionally ruminating in it.We'll also talk about:Why your “survival brain” hijacks conversations when you're floodedHow trying to communicate while dysregulated can create a fight–fight loopWhy timing matters more than technique when it comes to hard conversationsWhat it means to regulate first — and communicate second. This episode isn't about blaming yourself or your partner. It's about understanding the physiology underneath communication struggles — so you can stop trying to solve emotional problems at the wrong level. If you're a sensitive person who wants calmer, more honest, more connecting communication — without forcing or over-explaining — this episode will help you see your patterns with more compassion and clarity.SHOW NOTES:Learn all about and join Hannah in Foundations of Emotional Well-Being For HSPs; The Root Of a Safer Marriage and Heart here. 206 If you've ever read a marriage book, heard some relationship advice that seemed logical, or sat in a therapy session and thought, "Why is this so much harder for me than it seems to be for everyone else?"—there is a biological reason for that.Today we dive into what that is, and why a lot of traditional marriage advice just doesn't work for us as highly sensitive people. The truth is, most marriage advice does not take into account the HSP reality – our highly sensitive nervous systems and brains. So of course it's going to flop for us if we are not first respecting and honoring our physiological differences and needs. To expect traditional marriage advice to work for us is like expecting an orchid to bloom in a desert. It's not going to happen. So tune in to hear the top 5 popular pieces of advice that fail us sensitives, and what actually works instead – all illustrated with HSP-resonant nature analogies (sometimes some good old garden metaphors can really clear things up!)By the end of this episode, you're going to understand why, to thrive in your relationship, you don't need to try harder at traditional marriage advice's top down approach – like communicating with specific phrases– and that nourishing your sensitive system at the root level is what will make the biggest difference–and make the rest come quite naturally. What does that mean? Tune in to find out. SHOW NOTES:Learn all about and join Hannah in Foundations of Emotional Well-Being For HSPs; The Root Of a Safer Marriage and Heart here.
