Bloomberg is reporting that Genesis has been seeking $1 billion in emergency funding following the collapse of crypto exchange FTX. Wall Street Journal sources say the brokerage approached Binance and private equity giant Apollo Global Management for the cash and was rejected by the former. Santiago Velez, co-founder and R&D Division Lead at Block Digital, joins Ash Bennington for today's Real Vision Crypto Daily Briefing to talk about Genesis's potential bankruptcy. Later, Santiago and Ash welcome Ian Andrews, the chief marketing officer at Chainalysis, and Drew Hill, general counsel at Valkyrie Investments, for a panel discussion on Genesis and a U.S. investigation into FTX and the major hole in its finances. Soon after Russia's invasion, Ukrainian leaders knew they had to raise charitable donations for weapons, armor, and other supplies for the war effort. But due to the military nature of the spending, many traditional fundraising methods were restricted for Ukraine. That's when the country decided to leverage the power of cryptocurrency to raise funds from donors around the world. In this episode of Public Key, our host, Ian Andrews, CMO at Chainalysis, sits down for an encore presentation with his colleagues, Kimberly Grauer, Director of Research, and Salman Banaei, Head of Public Policy for North America, to discuss emerging cryptocurrency adoption in Ukraine and the benefits of cryptocurrency humanitarian fundraising efforts. The trio also touches on how illicit actors take advantage of these crises for scamming, and on whether or not cryptocurrency exchanges should heed Ukrainian officials' requests to ban Russian users from their platforms — this comes as ruble trading volumes on exchanges have spiked in recent weeks. The informative discussion continues with data-driven reasoning as to why Russian oligarchs are not evading sanctions via large value cryptocurrency transactions. Finally, the panel concludes the conversation by examining inflows and outflows of cryptocurrency exchanges frequented by Russian users and analyzing the activity of Russian cryptocurrency whales. Minute-by-minute episode breakdown (1:05) – How Cryptocurrency usage is being adopted by Ukraine and other jurisdictions (3:50) – The benefits of Cryptocurrency when traditional financial markets are restricted (5:20) – Scams that take advantage during crisis and political turmoil (8:25) – Should cryptocurrency exchanges restrict non-sanctioned Russian users (10:05) – Why NGOs could start using cryptocurrency for relief efforts and the use of the Ruble (12:05) – Oligarchs don't appear to be using large amounts of cryptocurrency to evade sanctions (14:55) – The net outflows of Russian cryptocurrency exchanges remain relatively flat (16:05) – Most concentration of cryptocurrency whales were in the Russian Time zones Related resources Check out more resources from Chainalysis that perfectly complement this episode of the Public Key. Russian Oligarchs are the current topic of conversation when it comes to using cryptocurrency to evade significant sanctions imposed and adopted by global leaders. Could cryptocurrency be the way that illicit actors move their fortunes out of Russia without access to the SWIFT network? Host, Ian Andrews, CMO at Chainalysis sits down for the inaugural Chainalysis podcast series with colleagues, Kim Grauer, (Director of Research, Chainalysis) and Salman Banaei (Co-head of Policy, Chainalysis) and discuss the potential for Russia to evade sanctions with cryptocurrency and the relation to Russia and the increase of ransomware in the industry. This panel uses a wealth of Chainalysis data highlighted in the 2022 Crypto Crime report to shed some light on Moscow City as a hub for illicit activity and provides a detailed breakdown of the infrastructure connecting Russia to notorious ransomware organizations. The transparency of the blockchain is highlighted in the infamous ransomware attack on American soil and policy discussions highlight Russia's move away from the USA dollar and the role the digital Yuan plays in the China / Russia relationship. The audience is in for some real life scenarios of the blockchain being compared to traditional bank robberies and the conversation finishes discussing Chainalysis recent announcement of “on-chain” sanctions oracles and API's to provide transaction monitoring of sanctioned parties to DeFi and beyond. Picture a winter vacation in the mountains. You're probably imagining a wood cabin, sitting by a fire in a cozy blanket, skiing, and a deep denial of hypothermia. You're probably not picturing bunches of bananas and trains to Omaha. And yet, that's the exact *ahem* train of thought that led James Curran to the invention of the chairlift at America's first-ever destination ski resort in 1936. James challenged the industry standard when it came to skiing transportation. He pushed technology so far that people had to confront how they'd done things in the past. And, as often happens, he encountered some serious resistance. What can we do when our products put us in a similar position? That's what we asked Ian Andrews, Principal & Co-Founder of Power Pro iPad Leasing. He shares how to address your customers' fear of change, get them on board with revolutionary technology, and make their life a breeze. --------"A huge part of customer experience is really identifying what works for the person that you're interacting with." - Ian Andrews--------Time Stamps* (0:00) How bananas saved your winter vacation* (7:48) What is Power Pro iPad Leasing?* (13:30) Traditions worth breaking * (17:31) How to show your customer the ropes...or should we say...slopes* (21:51) Letting your customer explore the mountain --------SponsorThis podcast is presented by Oracle CX. Andrew Guthrie Milne was a Perth railwayman who in around 1902 took up stereo photography as a hobby. Active in competition, Andrew and his wife Harriet took his 3D camera around Scotland with the objective of creating great photographs. One hundred years later Sunny16podcast listener Ian Wallace (@ian_onahillroad) undertook a project of over 10 years duration that turned out to be a photo history adventure. Eventually, it led to him to revisit every one of the locations Andrew placed his camera a hundred years before. In this podcast Jim Duncan (Andrews' Great Nephew) and Ian (Andrews' Gt Gt Nephew) discuss Andrews photographic work, stereophotography in general and how the project led to the book "On a Hill Road". Ian would like to especially thank Jim (who is a well known country music broadcaster on WCR FM) and his wife for their help creating this recording. Some of the images discussed can be seen in 2D at the bottom of the page here https://www.onahillroad.com/on-a-hill-road-scotland-in-stereo-3d-circa-1902/ Learn about the Stereo Victo Camera https://www.onahillroad.com/the-stereo-victo-camera/ The book On a Hill Road (ISBN 978-1-9164389-0-3) is available in the UK on amazon and ebay, UK and overseas can buy on Etsy. There is a special Sunny16Presents price on the book saving 15% (Coupon SUNNY16PRESENTS) until the end of September 2021 available only in Ians Etsy store. https://www.etsy.com/uk/shop/OnaHillRoad?coupon=SUNNY16PRESENTS If you are interested in a talk with 3D Anaglyph images for you interest group (pandemic allowing) https://www.onahillroad.com/andrew-guthrie-milne-talks-with-3d/ You can make stereos with any camera with a little care but if you would like to try (and get the bug) using your phone the App mentioned in the podcast is "3DSteriod Pro" just look for it in your app store.
