They share personal stories, such as Koji's challenging week with a broken-down car and a bat incident, and Michelle's temporary homelessness due to fumigation, to illustrate the complexity of apologies in everyday life. The discussion then shifts to the historical significance of the Civil Liberties Act of 1988, which provided reparations to Japanese Americans incarcerated during World War II. Lane Kim is one of the Gilmore Girls fandom's all-time favorite characters! Brilliantly played by Keiko Agena, Lane Kim had a strict, rules-based upbringing plus a burning passion for rock music and playing drums. In today's episode of Gabbing Gilmore, we dig into the repression of Lane Kim. How did growing up in a strict environment impact Lane's personality? How did Mrs. Kim influence her values? When was she willing to stray from being the obedient daughter?

Even as the show Gilmore Girls was winding down, Keiko Agena came to APU to participate in the first ever Asian club campus-wide event. Her husband, Shin Kawasaki came, too, joining several of our friends who came to support the Asian American students at APU. Keiko and Shin are two of my favorite people in the world, and they went on to come to APU for the next 6 years until I left. In this XL episode of After Hours, they reminisce about their memories of the events and the students, and they talk about some of the episodes of Chapel Probation. Shin's music has elevated this podcast for both seasons, and we get to hear him perform at a recent concert in Little Tokyo. You can support Shin's music by purchasing it on Bandcamp here. You can purchase Keiko's book, No Mistakes: A Perfect Workbook for Imperfect Artists here. Hi friends!:) Let's discuss this lovely & light episode with TWO double dates involved. Featuring fun facts about the characters of Mrs. Kim and Lane, as well as their wonderful portrayals by Keiko Agena and Emily Kuroda! Here is the recipe I used for the Recipe of the Week. Feel free to try it out and let me know how it went! Strawberry-Blueberry Smoothie (inspired by Sookie and Jackson): Add 4 spoonfuls of frozen blueberries, 3-4 frozen strawberries, 4 spoonfuls of oats, 1 teaspoon matcha, 1 teaspoon cocoa powder, 1 teaspoon peanut butter, and 1 cup of almond milk to a blender. Blend until smooth! :) I love having this smoothie as part of my breakfast! If you do not have frozen fruit, you can use non-frozen, but just make sure to add a few ice cubes to the blender to make the smoothie cold. Feel free to add more almond milk to the blender if you want the smoothie to be less thick. You can also add a sweetener of your choice. On this Artist’s Brain interview, Stormchaser sat down with actress and improviser Keiko Agena. Keiko’s improvised for years with Ham Radio, Aisian AF, and many other teams. You may know her from one of her many roles on television: she played Lane on Gilmore Girls, Pam Bradley on 13 Reasons Why, and she’s currently playing Dr. Edrisa Tanaka on Prodigal Son - which you still have time to catch up on season 2 on HBO Max before seeing the last couple episodes live on Fox. If that isn’t enough creativity for one person, she’s also a skilled visual artist, and she wrote a creative journal based on mindfulness practices and the improv principle "no mistakes" called No Mistakes: A Workbook for Imperfect Artists (amazon link). On this episode, we dig into the specifics of Keiko’s process as an improviser, as a writer, and as an actor. You’re free to go on with your life and leave us behind, but if you’ve enjoyed the show, could you leave us a review on Apple Podcasts? Help us get our show to the MOON! Our pilot this month is called Sexy Justice and it’s written by Johanna Stein. Johanna has written on many TV shows including Kung Fu Panda, Jaws of Destiny and so many more! She’s also the author of the novel How Not to Calm a Child on a Plane. Sexy Justice is a 1/2 hour cop show comedy featuring a pair of sizzlingly sexy female undercover cops on the streets of Los Angeles in its prime: the early 80’s. Think “Cagney & Lacey” meets “Charlie’s Angels”, and put through an “Archer” blender on high speed. Stay tuned for Andrew’s interview with Johanna where she talks about the development of Sexy Justice, her experience writing on children’s shows, and the world of animation. Enjoy! Sexy Justice stars Tiya Sircar as Didi Cates, Amanda Lund as Jennifer Von Knoblach, David Walton as Father Jim, Ian Gomez as Captain Gomez, Andy Ridings as Father O’Reilly/Officer Cappizzi/Store Clerk/Man, Brad Morris as Gentle Willy/Officer Manning/Radio, Keiko Agena as Chicky Jackson, Ethan Peck as Manly Nun/Punk/Ice Cream Truck Driver, and Andrew Reich with stage directions. We have a LIVE SHOW on Saturday, June 8th at 5pm at The Hollywood Improv! This month's episode was recorded live at SF Sketchfest 2019 and it’s Andrew's all-time favorite of his own dead pilots. Inspired by his own mother, "Pearl" tells the story of a woman who receives a diagnosis of terminal cancer, and decides to use the time she has remaining to orchestrate the lives of her loved ones to her liking. Our cast for this one was incredible: Julia Duffy as Pearl, Tony Hale as Billy, Alice Wetterlund as Olivia, Craig Cackowski as Kurt, Atsuko Okatsuka as Sara, Lucy Davis as Joy, Keiko Agena as Arlene, Carla Cackowski as Deedee, Kevin Pollak as Len, Tawny Newsome as Shelby/Waitress/Quinn, Will Choi as Travis/Cicerone, Guy Branum as Doctor Hudson/Radio Announcer/Student #2, Joel Kim Booster as Henry/Student #1, and Andrew Reich with stage directions. Our dead pilot this month is Birthright written by Joel Kim Booster (Comedy Central, Conan). We recorded this one live from SF Sketchfest! Birthright is based in part on Joel’s real life. This outrageous and raw pilot centers on Joel Miller. Adopted by white, Midwestern evangelical parents, Joel "knew he was gay before he knew he was Asian". When he has a falling out with his adoptive parents, he goes in search of his birth mother. He assumes she is in Korea, but finds that the truth is way more interesting... We had a great cast for this one including Joel Kim Booster as Joel, Keiko Agena as Sarah Kim, Guy Branum as Guy, Tawny Newsome as Sonia, Lucy Davis as Esther Kim, Alice Wetterlund as Nancy, Atsuko Okatsuka as Marcy, Carla Cackowski as Janet, Craig Cackowski as Gay Cop/Driver, Will Choi as Mark/Finance Bro/Drug User/Chip Hearts, Irene Tu as Ruthie, and Andrew Reich with stage directions. Before the table read, listen to Ben interview Joel about what he learned during his many rounds of development on this pilot for both Fox and Comedy Central. Come catch our live show at Dynasty Typewriter on February 10th at 2pm. We'll be reading scripts from Billy Finnegan (Grace & Frankie), Colleen McGuiness (30 Rock) and Johanna Stein (Kung Fu Panda: The Paws of Destiny)! Our cast so far includes Noel Wells (Master of None), Nichole Bloom (Superstore), David Walton (New Girl), Mo Collins ( F is For Family), Brad Morris ( Seeking A Friend For The End of The World), Ian Gomez (My Big Fat Greek Wedding), and more!! 'Gilmore Girls' star Keiko Agena (that's Rory's BFF Lane Kim!) joins us for a chat about how she truly feels about what the writers did to her character and why being a screw-up can actually be a good thing! Also, are we doomed to sequels forevermore?
If your internal critic and busy schedule keep you from the creative pursuits you enjoy, this interview—and a new book by actress Keiko Agena—are for you. Keiko, best known as Lane Kim on the TV show Gilmore Girls, wrote and illustrated No Mistakes: A Perfect Workbook for Imperfect Artists, for anyone looking to nuture their “wild, wacky” and more spirited side. In No Mistakes, interspersed with coloring pages and her original artwork, Keiko guides you through simple exercises based on one of the founding ideas of improv: Any misstep is an opportunity for growth and creativity.
Keiko Agena is best known for playing Rory's BFF, Lane, on Gilmore Girls, but when she's watching TV, she loves to snack on the couch while binging cooking competitions! A Hawaii native, Keiko's comfort food is a classic plate lunch, so host Rachel Belle will dig into the history of loco moco and, a Hawaiian favorite, SPAM. Follow along on Instagram! Do you want to create more freely? If so, you might wanna shift your relationship to mistakes, and let go of some of that idealism. That’s the central topic of today’s show with actress Keiko Agena. You might remember Keiko for her supporting role as Lane Kim – the punk rock obsessed daughter of strict Korean-American parents on the show Gilmore Girls. I know I was pretty obsessed with Gilmore Girls back in the day. Recently, Keiko has been recurring on SWEET/VICIOUS, COLONY and the new Netflix release of 13 REASONS WHY.http://majomolfino.com/blog/2018/9/20/how-to-let-go-of-idealism-create-more-freely-with-keiko-agenaShe’s also the author of a new Artist workbook called No Mistakes. In today’s episode, we talk about Keiko’s experience as an Asian American woman in the world of acting and Hollywood, why you don’t have to call yourself an artist, and the one thing she recommends you do to bring more creative freedom into your life. As a heads up: For the next eight weeks, there will be an episode dropping every Thursday – alternating between interviews and minisodes. The minisode series is all about boundaries, my favorite topic, so stay tuned for those too. Show Notes: ● On childhood, acting, auditioning and landing a role on Gilmore Girls show. [02:23]● Transitioning from Hawaii to the mainland and realizing how being Asian American would impact her acting career moving forward. [06:06]● The ease of temping in contrast to her discomfort and anxiety while on Gilmore Girls. [09:50]● More on Gilmore Girls and newfound interest in drawing, arts, and creativity. [19:44]● About her new book, “No Mistakes: A Perfect Workbook for Imperfect Artists”. She also talks about how what you do will label you eventually. Keiko’s been on “Scandal,” “Transformers: Dark of the Moon,” “House M.D.,” and, once and once again, “Gilmore Girls.” I know Keiko from the couple of years when I was her improv director working out of a small theater in a converted two-car garage! Keiko’s a bright light, she’s funny, she’s inspiring, and she’s sensitive. We hit all of it in this honest, true, grounded and, at time serious podchat. Keiko’s awesome, and I was really glad she came over to the apartment. Give it a listen.

We dive into Lorelai's love life and Rory's big three and take a few minor tangents along the way. Come join us in Stars Hollows and don't forget to share your thoughts with us on twitter @shippingroompod!
