“Don't give up. Just keep moving forward.” - Alexia Haubert After making it to the top 1% of all Etsy sellers in the wedding category - the top 1%! - Lexie was on top of her game. Then came a global pandemic that shut down the wedding industry and Lexie's business. Lexie had to pivot and struggled to grow her business for a long time before recently reaching a big milestone. In this episode, Lexie's story will inspire you to keep going as you work toward your business goals. When the wedding industry slowly started coming back, Lexie introduced The Monogrammed Bride subscription box and started building her audience from scratch. She stayed consistent and continued to show up even though she saw very little in the way of results for a long time. When Lexie and I first talked, after a disappointing launch, I was surprised to see she had done everything I teach. She was doing all the things and she was doing them well. But she wasn't seeing results. We brainstormed and strategized, and Lexie continued working hard. And just recently - after seeing consistently steady growth for the last six months - Lexie hit her long-standing goal of 100 subscribers! So what did she do differently these past six months? She built a community - giving her subscribers something to feel they were a part of. She posted stories on Instagram - consistently. She created engaging posts featuring pictures of subscribers and their boxes. She started going LIVE much more consistently and, when she did, started building an audience who showed up for her and engaged with her during the LIVEs. She followed her subscribers back and engaged with their posts. She did tons of short video, finding cracks of time while sitting in her car waiting to pick her kids up from practices. She sent boxes to a small number of influencers from TikTok and Instagram - people with 1000-2000 followers who want to grow as influencers. She ran Facebook Ads - and has gotten really dialed in which drives the cost per engagement way down. Lexie analyzes her Ads every week and makes changes as needed. While we were talking, Lexie got subscriber #112! This growth in her business - this regular, recurring revenue - has lessened the financial stress Lexie has felt for the past couple of years. She is able to breathe and plan for even more subscribers as her business continues to grow. Lexie's message for anyone who feels overwhelmed or discouraged by the challenges they're facing in building their business? Don't give up. Just keep moving forward. Join me for this episode and get inspired by Lexie's determination to just keep going and never give up on her dream on her way to reaching and passing her goal of 100 subscribers. In a way it's the sort of response you would have expected from Liam Gallagher. He's back on stage, and seemingly lapping it up, and asked about the love birds in the audience. He said "don't worry, we ain't got any of that Coldplay snidey f***ing camera shit. Doesn't matter to us who you are mingling with - or tingly with, fingingly with.” “None of our f***ing business". My gut says the majority of the audience, indeed the world, are with Liam, not Chris. This has been the biggest story in the world for two weeks now. It has crossed barriers, continents, and age groups in a way few stories do. It's that rare mix of mirth, horror, and carnage. Yes, it's funny. Yes, you can decipher the reaction, and how they reacted, and why they reacted, and how dumb the reaction might have been. But then in real life, jobs are lost, families and friends and relationships were upended. It's a level of personal upheaval we don't, and won't, know about. There's a very real question, I would have thought, around morals and business. The business was very quick to publicly talk about standards. Now he might, as CEO, have had a clause in his contract about public activity or behaviour. But business and morals are a fantastically complicated area I would have steered well clear of. What about legal action? They have to sue. Yes, tickets and venues have warnings about CCTV and filming, but this wasn't about crime or publicity. It went a mile beyond that. It blew up lives and it destroyed things. What about the mental consequences? How do two unknowns handle global fame, opprobrium, celebrity attention and notoriety all at once? Yes, it's easy to say, "well they shouldn't have been there, should they?". What if they are in love, about to be married and starting afresh? As opposed to say, him being a shagger and this was his third fling this year. Lives are complicated and we have little, if any, business passing judgement. Or as Liam would say - it's none of our f***ing business. See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Launch Your Box Podcast with Sarah Williams | Start, Launch, and Grow Your Subscription Box
Have you ever felt stuck trying to get seen? Whether you're just starting to build your audience so you can launch your subscription box or you're deep into scaling your business, this episode is for you. I sat down with Brooke Riley of Re-Fabbed with Brooke Riley and Re-Fabbed Boutique. She shared how she built two successful businesses and a thriving community by showing up authentically, consistently, and imperfectly. Brooke started her business 10 years ago with a DIY blog and built a Facebook audience from scratch to send readers to her blog. When Facebook LIVE first rolled out, she jumped right in and discovered how powerful it was to connect with people in real time. Her blog views skyrocketed. Her income grew. And when her audience started asking what she was wearing on her LIVEs and where they could get it, Brooke paid attention. That question planted the seed for what would become the Re-fabbed Boutique, which she's grown into a multi-million dollar business over the past 7 years. More than just a boutique, Brooke has built a community. And she believes that connection – built by showing up as her true self and serving her audience – is what sets her apart. We covered so much in this conversation, including: • Why consistency is everything when building your audience, even when it feels like no one is watching. • How showing up authentically helps your people connect with you. • The danger of waiting for everything to be “perfect” before you start. • How personal content builds trust and deepens relationships with your audience. • Why your actions, not just your words, determine your success. When I asked Brooke, coach-to-coach, about the biggest mistake business owners make, her answer was simple and powerful: They wait. They think everything has to be perfect before they take the first step. They stay stuck in a compulsive learning mode instead of doing. If you've been holding back, Brooke and I challenge you to start today. Show up. Build trust. Be consistent. And get seen, organically. Because if you want to launch your subscription box or grow your business, your audience needs to know you. Brooke left us with one final thought. And in true Brooke Riley fashion, she didn't sugarcoat it: If you want this, your actions need to show it. You either want it or you don't. Do the work. Your audience is waiting, but you have to put yourself out there to be found. What You'll Learn in This Episode • Why consistency and authenticity matter more than perfection • How to build trust and connection with your audience •. What it really takes to launch and grow, even when it feels scary • Why your audience will show up for you when you show up for them Join me for this episode if you're ready to stop hiding and start building the business you've been dreaming about. Though today’s energy transition is often framed as new, it follows patterns we’ve seen before. Cutler Cleveland of Boston University’s Institute for Global Sustainability explores the historical context of today’s shift. --- Today’s shift to carbon-free power is commonly called “the energy transition,” yet the label can suggest that this is the first, or only, transformation of its kind. Throughout history, societies have moved from one dominant energy source to another, with each transformation bringing profound economic, social, and environmental change. On the podcast, we explore how today’s energy transition compares to those of the past, while noting that—despite decades of investment and policy support—we’re still in the early stages of moving toward a net-zero carbon system. Why is this transition taking so long? Why does it feel more politically and socially charged than previous ones? And are our current anxieties about energy jobs, community impacts, and planetary livability really new? Cutler Cleveland, associate director of Boston University’s Institute for Global Sustainability, brings a historical lens to energy systems and explores what makes this moment in energy history both familiar and unprecedented. Cutler Cleveland is a professor in the Department of Earth & Environment at Boston University, and associate director of the university’s Institute for Global Sustainability. EPISODE 97 - “BEHIND THE GLAMOUR: DRUG USE IN OLD HOLLYWOOD” - 7/21/25 As the Roaring 1920s kicked in, America's backlash against prohibition brought forth a boozy, fun-loving era where alcohol and the use of recreational drugs like cocaine and opium became a fashionable part of the hedonistic lifestyle. This was never more true than behind the hallowed gates of old Hollywood's studios. In fact, drugs became a common tool of the studio systems to keep exhausted actors working and impossible production schedules on track. After the deaths of prominent film stars WALLACE REID and ALMA RUBENS, Hollywood had a chance to change things, but they didn't. This week, we explore the rampant drug use that permeated the film industry during Hollywood's infancy. I'm starting this new series on Inventions that Changed Women's Lives at the very beginning—so early that it predates written history. In this episode, I dive into the origins of agriculture and ask the (possibly) surprising question: Was it actually a bad idea? For many women, life as a hunter-gatherer may have been easier, freer, and more equal than what came after. But it's true that sources are sketchy, hindsight is 20/20, and even women in patriarchal societies tend to like things like public infrastructure, writing, monumental architecture, and food surpluses, all of which come after agriculture. Civilization as we know it is a mixed bag. Visit the website (herhalfofhistory.com) for sources, transcripts, and pictures. This show survives on the support of listeners like you. When the flood came, the warnings didn't. In this episode, a deadly cascade of communication breakdowns and the consequences of delay. At least 129 people are dead, with dozens still missing, after historic flash flooding swept through central Texas. The timeline reveals a gap between federal alerts and local action. Lives were lost in those hours. We examine what went wrong, why the local warning system never materialized despite years of requests, and how messaging from state and national leaders continues to fail the public in real-time. From delayed sirens to political deflections, this is a story about infrastructure, accountability, and the high cost of silence.Plus: the Camp Mystic aftermath, FEMA's delayed deployment, the governor's football analogy, and the backlash to a viral video that reframed the tragedy through race and privilege. The floodwaters receded. The questions haven't.Want More Behind the Breakdown? I loved being with Ginni Rometty. She is full of insight and clearly oriented toward world-positive work. I was also taken with her Midwestern charm and candor. Emerging from a tricky childhood, she found herself running IBM in a time when very few women were commanding boardrooms (a statement that is maddeningly still applicable today). Now, she is entirely devoted to making good careers available to many more people, and her plan is working. This is a conversation for anyone who wants to build more purpose into life and perhaps one to forward along to the young professionals in your life as inspiration. Thanks to AmeriHealth Caritas and PBS for supporting this work. You can watch this conversation anytime at PBS.org/kelly.
