On this week's Let It Rip Friday, we're discussing the importance of making room for something more in your life.
Every driven professional eventually reaches a crossroads where working harder no longer produces the desired growth. Mark Kull found himself at this junction after achieving Northwestern Mutual's prestigious Forum recognition in consecutive years, only to realize he was trapped in an unsustainable cycle of effort. What followed was a transformative journey from frantic producer to strategic business builder. Mark shares the counterintuitive wisdom that reshaped his approach: "You often have to slow down to speed up." This perspective shift led him to create what he considers more valuable than any to-do list – a comprehensive "don't-do list" that freed him to focus on his highest-impact activities. The conversation explores Mark's deeply personal definition of success: being "front door famous" – showing up as the same authentic person whether with family, clients, or strangers. This consistency of character guides his leadership and life choices more powerfully than traditional financial metrics ever could.Mark reveals the practical strategies that supported his transition, from calculating the true hourly value of his client-facing time to intentionally hiring team members with complementary strengths rather than similar personalities. He candidly discusses the challenges of letting go, acknowledging that "in our desperation to want to be everything to everybody, we don't really become much of anything to anybody."Perhaps most surprisingly, Mark credits consistent sleep and wake times as his most important habit – a discipline that builds self-trust and reinforces his capacity for follow-through in every area of life. His approach demonstrates how elite achievement often comes not from doing more, but from doing the right things with remarkable consistency.Ready to rethink your approach to growth? Connect with Mark at mark.kull@nm.com or visit https://cpp.nm.com/ to learn how strategic delegation and intentional habits might transform your personal and professional trajectory. In this podcast you will learn:• Redefining success as being "front door famous" – maintaining consistency of character across all environments• Creating a strategic "don't-do list" rather than just focusing on to-do lists• Calculating the hourly value of client-facing time to determine what tasks to delegate• Hiring people with complementary skill sets rather than similar personalities• Making the shift from "producing forum" to "being a forum producer" through systems and processes• Building in non-negotiable growth opportunities like mastermind groups and industry conferences• Using flexible growth methods like reading that can be done at various times without rigid scheduling• Celebrating wins intentionally rather than constantly moving goalposts• Maintaining consistent habits like regular sleep and wake times to build self-discipline• Finding team members who genuinely enjoy the tasks on your don't-do listHighlights:0:00Self-Actualization and Introduction7:12Defining Elite Success Personally11:40The Journey from Forum Producer20:24Building a Strategic Business30:24Creating Space for Growth39:06The Power of Consistency42:50Celebration and Final ThoughtsInterested in 1:1 Coaching?Kristin partners with high-performing financial advisors, leaders, and business owners who are ready to lead with more clarity, focus, and intention.Clients often come to her with a strong vision—but they aren't sure how to close the gap between where they are now and where they want to go. Growing up, I knew I wanted to be an attorney since I was a sophomore in high school; my guest this week had me beat by 8 years. All of my peers thought I was crazy to have a kid right as I was about to finish law school; my guest this week earned her JD at night while working a full-time job. I could do more of these comparisons, but the point is that hurdles take on a lot of different forms, sometimes obvious but sometimes not. As lawyers we want the necessary facts, and while that's great for understanding a case, people are often a lot more nuanced. My conversation this week was one of the best reminders I've had in a while to slow down and get to know someone else's story. So with that in mind, my guest this week is Breeana Somers, a litigation associate with Ballad Spahr whose practice focuses on consumer financial services matters.Earning a place in 2024's “Ones to Watch” by Best Lawyers in America, her journey has been anything but traditional, but nothing short of extraordinary.Enjoy the show.

We all know that messes (both physical & mental) can feel incredibly overwhelming making it hard to create space in your life for the things that really matter. Enter Tyler Moore: a school teacher, husband and father of three (who all share a tiny but very tidy apartment in NYC) known as “Tidy Dad” on Instagram. In his first book, TIDY UP YOUR LIFE: Rethinking How to Organize, Declutter, and Make Space for What Matters Most (1/14) Moore offers not only practical, authentic tidying/organization tips, but just as important, ways to bring focus to your life and address the mental clutter than can happen as well.
In this episode of Peace of the City, we reflect on Trinity Sunday, Pentecost, Pride Month, and Father's Day through a sermon titled Let Us Make Space. Rev. Jason Storbakken invites us into the paradox of honoring fatherhood while challenging patriarchy, exploring the mystery of the Trinity not as rigid doctrine, but as divine friendship and relational love.Drawing from John 16:12–15, the sermon affirms a Spirit who continues to speak and a God who parents without domination. Through themes of inclusion, power-sharing, and holy disruption, we hear a call to embody a church that celebrates all flesh, all genders, and all people. This is a word for seekers, doubters, and dreamers—a call to create space for love in all its forms.Listen in and let the Spirit make space in you.

Just because something works doesn't mean you have to keep doing it.Today, I'm joined once again by my brilliant friend Sabrina Gebhardt for a conversation that's all about letting go... of offers, expectations, even identities that no longer serve you. Sabrina shares three major decisions she made in 2024 to release things that were still generating revenue (and still “made sense” on paper), but that no longer felt aligned. We talk about the fear of quitting, the mental weight of dragging something behind you, and how releasing what no longer fits can make space for what's next (sometimes sooner than you think!)As creative entrepreneurs, our interests shift. What lights us up in one season might feel heavy or out of sync in another. That's not failure - it's growth. In fact, giving yourself permission to change might just be the smartest business move you make all year.Resources: New to the podcast? Do you long for a love that's grounded, reliable, and built on mutual respect—one that thrives on shared responsibilities, long-term vision, and practical support? If so, you may be the Administrator LoveType (ISTJ on the Myers-Briggs personality test)—the steady, dependable planner who values duty, loyalty, and a well-ordered life. On our Love University podcast, we explored the essential relationship strengths and romantic needs of the Administrator—one of the most grounded and responsible love personality styles from my classic book, LoveTypes (lovetype.com). Here's what we discovered: As an Administrator, you bring a strong sense of purpose and integrity to your relationships. You are the builder of love's foundation—someone who creates trust by doing what you say, showing up consistently, and working hard for the people you care about. You thrive in partnerships that honor tradition, shared goals, and clear expectations. For you, love is a well-structured home built with mutual respect, consistent effort, and a deep commitment to a shared future. However, your strong sense of duty can sometimes make romance feel like just another task on the to-do list. You may find it hard to relax emotionally or express affection spontaneously. Fortunately, your partner will come to see your care in your actions—how you protect, provide, and plan for the future. With time and trust, your affection blossoms in deeply meaningful ways. To attract and maintain a strong, lasting love, consider these practical tips: Prioritize Emotional Presence: Even though you're more comfortable with logistics than emotions, try to be present emotionally. A listening ear or a reassuring word can go a long way in connecting with your partner on a deeper level. Look for a Partner Who Respects Structure: You flourish with someone who values routines, shared responsibilities, and long-term planning. Together, you can build a life of peace, purpose, and partnership. Make Space for Playfulness: Love doesn't always have to follow a plan. Leave room for surprise, spontaneity, and affection beyond your comfort zone. It can recharge your relationship and deepen emotional intimacy. Recognize Your Love Language: You show love through acts of service, protection, and reliability. Helping your partner understand this—and learning theirs—can help both of you feel more seen and appreciated. Ultimately, the key to a fulfilling relationship as an Administrator is honoring your gift for commitment while learning to connect emotionally in ways that may not come naturally. When you find a partner who values your stability and depth—and who encourages your emotional expression—you'll discover that love is not only built, but also deeply felt. Together, you'll construct a partnership that's enduring, loving, and unshakably real
