Most of reality can be broken into parts and measured accurately, but some things lose all their relevant information the moment you separate them. The moment consensus breaks down — as the French discovered after their revolution — entire systems become unstable and costly to operate.Constraints are affordances. Entropy and gravity aren't just limitations — they're the ground on which everything is built. Aaron argues that persistent laws of nature are tools, and ignoring them doesn't make them go away, it just makes your model wrong.Ontology is always present, whether you name it or not. Every agent, every system, every framework has one built in. Un Alsacien sélectionné en Equipe de France. Robin Risser, gardien du RC Lens, a été choisi par Didier Deschamps pour participer à la Coupe du monde de football, qui se tiendra cet été aux Etats-Unis, Canada et Mexique. Âgé de 21 ans et originaire de Beblenheim, Robin Risser vient aussi d'être élu meilleur gardien de Ligue 1. Trois jeunes interpellés après le passage à tabac d'un collégien à Mulhouse. Lundi, un élève du collège Jean-Macé a été emmené dans un sous-sol, où il a été roué de coups par quatre agresseurs. Un scooter lui aurait notamment roulé sur le pied et son téléphone lui a été dérobé, sous la menace d'un taser. La victime présentait de nombreuses dermabrasions. Un mauvais regard et une dispute seraient à l'origine de ces violences. Deux mineurs âgés de 16 ans ont été placés en détention provisoire et un jeune de 14 ans a été placé en centre éducatif fermé. Le quatrième agresseur est toujours recherché.1,5 million d'euros détournés au Carrefour d'Illzach. Le gérant et le directeur financier du supermarché ont été mis en examen mercredi pour escroquerie en bande organisée. La fraude consistait à demander illégalement de l'argent aux fournisseurs et à la centrale d'achat en déclarant de fausses ventes pour obtenir des réductions sur des produits en promotion. A la suite des perquisitions, un préjudice encore plus important serait présagé. Derniers jours pour répondre à une nouvelle concertation publique à Colmar. Cette dernière concerne le tronçon de l'avenue Foch, compris entre l'avenue Poincaré et le débouché de la rue Voltaire. En plus de la réfection de la chaussée, la création de pistes cyclables est aussi envisagée. Le réaménagement de l'entrée du giratoire est aussi inclus à ce projet. Llegó a ser considerado el número uno mundial en su campo, con una reputación impecable entre los especialistas. Además, hay algo más importante que los logros matemáticos.En el año 2000, el Instituto Matemático Clay seleccionó los que denominó los Problemas del Milenio. Son siete problemas matemáticos considerados los desafíos más importantes y difíciles de la matemática contemporánea. Resolver cualquiera de estos problemas supondría un avance significativo en el campo de las matemáticas y tendría un impacto profundo en nuestra comprensión del mundo. Los siete Problemas del Milenio son:* La conjetura de Birch y Swinnerton-Dyer.* La conjetura de Hodge.* La hipótesis de Riemann.* La conjetura de Poincaré.* La conjetura de P vs. NP.* La conjetura de Yang-Mills.* La conjetura de Navier-Stokes.Estos problemas abarcan diversas áreas de las matemáticas, desde la teoría de números hasta la geometría diferencial y la física matemática. Hasta la fecha, solo la conjetura de Poincaré ha sido resuelta; ahora se llama el teorema de Poincaré.Imaginemos que tenemos un globo inflado. La conjetura de Poincaré se pregunta si cualquier objeto tridimensional que no tenga bordes ni agujeros puede transformarse, sin romperlo ni cortarlo, en algo parecido a una esfera. En otras palabras, se cuestiona si es posible que todo espacio cerrado sin agujeros sea, en esencia, una esfera en tres dimensiones. El ruso Grigori Perelman encontró una manera brillante de demostrar que la conjetura de Poincaré es cierta. Utilizó herramientas matemáticas muy avanzadas para mostrar que, efectivamente, cualquier objeto tridimensional sin agujeros se puede transformar en una forma sin agujeros.El trabajo revolucionario de Perelman le valió el reconocimiento internacional. Pero Perelman rechazó todos los premios y reconocimientos, incluyendo la medalla Fields y el Premio del Milenio del Instituto Clay, que incluía un bono de un millón de dólares. Su motivación era resolver un problema muy importante que nadie más pudo resolver durante más de cien años. Se dedicó de lleno, prácticamente en aislamiento, durante 7 años de su vida. The history of science has tons of examples of the same thing being discovered multiple time independently; wikipedia has a whole list of examples here. If your goal in studying the history of science is to extract the predictable/overdetermined component of humanity's trajectory, then it makes sense to focus on such examples. But if your goal is to achieve high counterfactual impact in your own research, then you should probably draw inspiration from the opposite: "singular" discoveries, i.e. discoveries which nobody else was anywhere close to figuring out. After all, if someone else would have figured it out shortly after anyways, then the discovery probably wasn't very counterfactually impactful. Alas, nobody seems to have made a list of highly counterfactual scientific discoveries, to complement wikipedia's list of multiple discoveries. To that end: what are some examples of discoveries which nobody else was anywhere close to figuring out? A few tentative examples to kick things off: Shannon's information theory. The closest work I know of (notably Nyquist) was 20 years earlier, and had none of the core ideas of the theorems on fungibility of transmission. In the intervening 20 years, it seems nobody else got importantly closer to the core ideas of information theory. Einstein's special relativity. Poincaré and Lorentz had the math 20 years earlier IIRC, but nobody understood what the heck that math meant. Einstein brought the interpretation, and it seems nobody else got importantly closer to that interpretation in the intervening two decades. Penicillin. Gemini tells me that the antibiotic effects of mold had been noted 30 years earlier, but nobody investigated it as a medicine in all that time. Pasteur's work on the germ theory of disease. There had been both speculative theories and scattered empirical results as precedent decades earlier, but Pasteur was the first to bring together the microscope observations, theory, highly compelling empirical results, and successful applications. I don't know of anyone else who was close to putting all the pieces together, despite the obvious prerequisite technology (the microscope) having been available for two centuries by then. Przy czym uwaga: w odbiorze osób żyjących w piwnicy albo pędzących w statku kosmicznym nic się nie zmienia, sekunda trwa tyle samo. Różnica jest, kiedy dokona się porównania, odpowiednio z zegarem na piętrze i zegarem, który pozostał na Ziemi. Pamiętajcie: to jest ogólna teoria WZGLĘDNOŚCI. Nazwa nie jest przypadkowa. Chociaż nawet profesjonalistom trudno było w to uwierzyć. – Kiedy wysłano zegarek na pokładzie rakiety kosmicznej, podobno nawet inżynierowie byli naprawdę ciekawi, czy będzie ta różnica. Fizycy, którzy znali teorię względności, wiedzieli, że sprawa jest jasna. I różnica była, doskonale zgadzała się z przewidywaniem obliczonym na podstawie wzorów teorii względności – opowiada prof. Lewandowski. Posłuchacie o wpływie na nowe postrzeganie czasu (czasoprzestrzeni) Maxwella, Lorentza, Poincaré czy Minkowskiego.
