First, Dev-i-boy found a list of Valve games that never came out. These games were created in the dark times before Half Life: Alyx was announced, and include some interesting looks at what Half Life 3 could have been. You can't go to Comic-Con this year, but you can watch it online. There's a great program with tons of shows including comics, television and gaming news. It's also probably the most accessible Comic-Con ever, since you don't need to leave your house and the shows are free.First the robots came for the car factory jobs, and I said nothing. Then they came for the Playstation 4 assembly jobs, and I said "Cool, that's some nice tech". Sony has almost fully automated their assembly line and only use four people on the ends of a single assembly line that makes one console every 30 seconds. It's awesome.Esports are stressful, and high skill players show the same signs of stress as their analogue counterparts. This doesn't surprise the Nerds at all, but it's an interesting study. This week, Professor played a chaotic real time dice rolling game, DJ kept the peace in Agents of Mayhem and Dev-i-boy got distracted by job applications. Welcome to Episode 15. This is The Leadership Lyceum’s special Earth Day 2018 episode of A CEO’s Virtual Mentor on Climate Change and Clean Energy. We are pleased to present an interview with Ralph Cavanagh, Co-Director of the Energy Program at the Natural Resources Defense Council from October 23, 2017. We honor Earth Day by bringing in a much deeper perspective than is typically seen by the environmentally-conscious consumer. We look deeply at the prospects for clean energy on a massive scale in the western region of the US through the lens of the NRDC, the remarkable development of energy efficiency as a resource, and the exciting prospects for clean energy integration across the west through electricity grid regionalization in the western electric transmission grid. The Natural Resources Defense Council or NRDC is an NGO with really a superhero's mission of working to safeguard the earth, its people, its plants and animals, and the natural systems on which all life depends. This is a tall order, requiring courageous, charismatic, and competent policy-oriented leaders of influence to carry out the mission. Ralph Cavanagh joined the NRDC in 1979 and has focused on removing barriers to cost effective energy efficiency, and on the role that electric and gas utilities can play in leading a clean energy transition. Ralph has taught energy law and policy at Harvard Law School, Stanford Law School, U.C. Berkeley Law School, and at the University of Idaho. Ralph serves on several boards. The Bipartisan Policy Center, The Northwest Energy Coalition, Renewable Northwest, The Center for Energy Efficiency and Renewable Technologies. Ralph chairs the advisory board of the U.C. Davis Energy Efficiency Center. He's a graduate of Yale University, and Yale Law School. The Caterpillar Podcast gives you the dirt on Caterpillar, the people and of course the yellow iron. Caterpillar's Virtual Product Development Manager Valerie Wiest joins the program to discuss the nuts, bolts and bytes of simulation in product development, how D&I became personal to her and more. Program Guide: 1:50 - As a child, Valerie took apart clocks and more, always trying to figure out how things worked. More about her upbringing, including how her parents helped instill an insatiable love of learning. "Going as far as I did in my schooling was because of that love of learning - I felt I never knew enough." 5:00 - Valerie's experience at Caterpillar includes materials fatigue work, a product design role, testing and more. Through it all, she found a common theme. "Every job I had, had a piece of simulation in it. It's always been there." 9:00 - Though diversity and inclusion are usually presented together, they are two very different things. For Valerie, an experience with her son helped drive home her belief that inclusion is the more important of the two. "That really caused me to think: At, work how many people - in some aspect - may feel they're in a box? And are we making them feel that way?" 13:24 - Valerie's philosophy on work-life balance, and its impact on her family. "Very early on my life, I set my own mental boundaries on where work and my life needed to separate." How technology enables work-life balance, but also makes more difficult to disconnect. 16:02 - What disconnecting from work and rejuvenation is like for Valerie. 17:00 - A story about a stark contrast between two leaders Valerie had consecutively - and what she learned from both. "We would have taken a bullet for this guy, because he did so much for us and we didn't want to disappoint him." 19:01 - Simulation for dummies: "If you're watching a weather forecast, you're watching a simulation." How simulation at Caterpillar uses data, math and physics to create models that predict what's going to happen to a product or component in different conditions. "I can run through a design and all those possible combinations without ever cutting any iron, and make a decision..." 21:00 - Caterpillar's simulation strategy includes having the tools and capacity to enable simulation. "We're driving for the day when we look at simulation first. Everybody's mind is ‘simulation first.'" 23:45 - What's the value of simulation? Speeding up the product development cycle. "We see that groups that really engage with simulation can take months and months out of their product introduction cycle."

Heartsong Fit With Vickie Maris | Healthy Ways to Address Stress
This episode is a conversation between me and Linda Brammer about the 21-day gentle cleanse Ultimate Reset. We walk listeners through their experiences doing a 21-day cleanse. We step through the Program Guide and share several tips learned along the way. You'll hear about the benefits gained from the change in eating habits and addition of the supplements during the 21 days. We both experienced weight loss and were feeling much better at the end of the experience. We also talk about several of the recipes used during the cleanse. By Week 2 of the program, we were eating vegetarian and vegan meals. If you'd like to learn more, I kept a journal during the Reset, which appears in my blog. I was active as a Beachbody coach at the time of the recording. http://www.heartsongfit.com
