This summer I was grateful to return to the jungle to experience the 2nd Annual Mind, Body & Soul Retreat at Usha Village in Honduras. Today, I am blessed to have here with me Austin Cavelli. She helps people optimize their health by burning fat for fuel and reducing years of underlying inflammation from the standard American diet. [02:20] Why Austin Decided To Follow A Carnivore Diet Austin struggled mainly with digestive issues for most of her life. She suffered from chronic constipation and chronic pains with food. So, Austin tried a paleo diet and cut out diary. Eventually, Austin noticed that when she cut out certain vegetables, her digestion was getting better. Then, she realized more fats would make her feel better. It wasn't until Austin went carnivore and cut out fiber that made her digestive issues go away. [06:30] Antinutrients Could Be The Reason For Your Symptoms Joint pain is a big issue. Antinutrients can also cause chronic constipation. Also, antinutrients can be hindering your mental clarity and sleep. Lastly, antinutrients may be causing low energy levels. Switching to carnivore can vastly improve mental clarity, sleep, energy, digestion, and joint pain. [08:35] Why You May Want To Ditch The Antinutrients Take away antinutrients to see if your health improves. Antinutrients will affect every person differently. The gut will be most affected by antinutrients. In fact, they can even cause leaky gut. First, you have to clean the gut before you introduce probiotics. If you add probiotics to an unhealthy gut, then it's not going to help. Remove the antinutrients in order to heal the gut temporarily. [14:15] Do You Need Fiber To Have Regular Bowel Movements? People think that going on a carnivore diet will result in constipation. Other people say that the carnivore diet will result in explosive diarrhea. When switching to carnivore, the increased amount of fat could result in diarrhea. So, go heavy on protein instead of fat. Liquid fats will run right through you. [16:30] Why You Shouldn't Drink Water When You Are Eating Your Meals When you are eating a carnivore diet, you already have a lot of protein which requires stomach acid to break it down. To maximize stomach acid, prevent water 30 minutes before and after a meal. It takes our body more effort to digest cold water. Instead, drink room temperature water. When eating, it is best not to just stress the body and make sure that you can focus on the digestion of food. [17:45] Electrolytes Are Critical When Following A Carnivore Diet Austin is a minimalist when it comes to supplements. If you are going to eat organs, then eat the actual organs. Supplements are processed, so it's time to eliminate those from your diet when possible. If you are starting a carnivore diet, then you need more electrolytes. Take a magnesium supplement; it's not readily available in our soil anymore. The beef heart is very mild. Another organ that is easy on flavor is the beef tongue. Slow cooking the beef tongue will make it easy to consume. [26:45] Can I Get Cancer From Eating Too Much Red Meat? Keto and carnivore have an anti-inflammatory effect on the body. The red meat studies were not accurate – they were not looking at just the consumption of red meat. Everything comes down to inflammation. When you reduce antinutrients, you are reducing inflammation. By doing these things, you are actually reversing your chances of getting cancer. The number one cancer center in the United States is promoting a ketogenic diet. [32:50] How To Transition From Carnivore To Keto Depending on what foods trigger your symptoms will depend on how you want to transition from carnivore to keto. For instance, if sweet things trigger your symptoms, then you may want to avoid fruits. However, if sweet foods are not your trigger, then you can start to reintroduce berries back into your diet. Avocado is a safe food to bring back into your diet. Also, some people even cut out eggs when they go on a carnivore diet. This lesson explores the four New Testament resurrections as recorded in the gospels. They are: (1) the raising of Jairus’s daughter in Luke 8, (2) the raising of a widow’s son in Luke 7, (3) the raising of Lazarus in John 11, and (4) the resurrection of Jesus in all 4 gospels. Each event is compared to the final and most significant resurrection account of Jesus and the effect this should have on resetting our vision, future, faith and hope. Jesus rose never to die again, so we can be confident in the risen savior as our hope and victory. The lesson concludes with an invitation to respond to the message.

You have probably heard about the web documentary show, Down To Earth with Zac Efron and Darin Olien on Netflix. In this episode, not only you will learn the backstory of the show, but you will also gain a lot of good knowledge from Darin Olien and how he turned all of the unfortunate events he experienced into something great. He is one of Down To Earth's executive producers, the original formulator of Shakeology and co-creator of the comprehensive plant-based Ultimate Reset 21-day detoxification program, is often called “the Indiana Jones of superfoods.” Why did Darin choose to dive deep into health? Darin was starting fullback in his sophomore year and he beat out guys 50 pounds heavier than him. In the first first game, he crunched my lower back, you're a bunch of ligaments. That was an abrupt stop to his dream. The physical therapists that I was going to and the x rays and everything that he was jumping through to try to get back on the field wasn't working. There was a lot of complexity, as it turns out he couldn't get back on the field. He then quit that school, and went to the University of St. Thomas and St. Paul, Minnesota. And I started studying physiology, kinesiology, and nutrition, and whatnot. That's when all of these things kind of started making sense for him because number one, he wanted to figure this out for himself, because there's no way that this is going to stop him. So being able to understand a bit of physiology and movement and patterns, started to reverse engineer his injury. What got Darin into the superfood industry? Darin saw flaws. He saw beautiful marketing, and then crappy ingredients. He was like, “Is anyone seeing this?” He was always starting to play with formulation. The full circle kind of moment was when his father passed away, and he received 20 grand which is a lot of money 16 years ago. And for him, that money has something a little different because it came directly from his father -- his legacy. That's when he started. He set up his LLC, traveled more, created formulas, and started the process of manufacturing his own formulas. He did all of that using the money he got from his father. In the 11th hour of burning through all his cash and realizing how much money it costs them to create a startup, that's when Beachbody approached Darin. Beachbody told Darin to keep doing his thing. So he's going to formulate which he was doing anyway, and Beachbody will be paying him. What are the five forces in Darin's best-selling book, SuperLife? These are: Nutrition Hydration Oxygenation Alkalization Detoxification Tune in to this episode so you will learn what those five forces mean and what the importance of each is. What was the inspiration for Down to Earth? As he traveled, he got to see the cultures and the environmental impacts and certain things like water, food, and shelter around the world that many people have never seen and experienced. The environment became a massive pillar in his own life. Water became big for him as he was a big advocate and on the board of rain catcher.org and bringing water to those cultures and showing how to create clean water. He met people along the way that were doing some incredible things from green technologies, to permaculture, and land design that was efficient, but also had yields without striking the ground and the earth and the soil. So as Darin started sketching out an idea for a show. That was Yes, a little bit of superfood hunting, but yes, a little food systems pollution, solution-based diversity of a lot of good people doing a lot of good things around the world. He wanted to show the goodness that people have and also that people can do something about some of those things. For Darin, it was not just doing a TV show, for a TV show sake. He needs to do it to move in a way that conveys a message. His mission is to help people stay healthy and help the planet stay healthy, and just make this place better. According to him, we did a lot of things with great intent. But we got a lot of things wrong as a society. So we need to correct those things. And he really believes that by collaborating with the right people, getting the message out, we can correct those things. And we all can shift from monocropping and stripping our soils to regenerative agriculture that can increase our yields, regenerate our souls, sequester carbon, receive more rainwater, and help their regenerate, reforest, and reinvigorate the ecology. So that we all benefit from it not only our communities, but also as a global society. Hey guys, It's me, Kelsey, and I'm sitting here this Easter Sunday 2020 not in my Easter dress about to head to church and then to Easter brunch. (Actually, what I've enjoyed doing for Easter's pasts are Glow in the Dark Easter Egg hunts for the neighbors and their children in the backyard, but even that isn't happening during this COVID19 social distancing season that we are in.) But instead, I'm like all of you, questioning the circumstances in which we are in, and asking myself WHY THE HECK IS THIS HAPPENING? Anyone with me? The Easter holiday is full of traditions. I mean, I'm sure you have already thought of all the things you are missing out on, right? Enneagram 7s, where u at, can I get a *woot woot*. Easter egg hunts with the family, great food, a church service, a community Easter event. But in the hustle and bustle of what "normal" Easter is for us, have we missed the actual meaning of Easter? Ok, think about it. Easter Sunday happens. In conversation some of us converse in this way "He has Risen" which in response we hear "He has Risen indeed". All that is great and means well, but then Monday happens. And life is back to normal. Except for this year. Except for 2020. I've been watching the new TV series called The Chosen with a friend. Highly, highly recommend!! In watching this series, the New Testament stories have come to life and have given me a fresher perspective on The Bible and what it truly means to believe in Jesus. As a Christian, I have had my own doubts, my own battles of faith, my insecurities of who I am according to the Word of God and what I feel, and guilt about what I've done. But what I'm seeing thru this series AND reading the actual scripture, is so did Jesus's disciples. And in each case of calling each disciple, Jesus asked them to stop what they were doing and to instead, follow him. He didn't ask them to stop their doubts, stop their issues, stop their insecurities. He asked them to stop what they were DOING! Guys, a lot of us have been forced to stop what we are doing. We have been diverted from our "normal" lives because of COVID 19. And what we see as detrimental, discouraging, anxious, worrisome could really be our answer to prayer. The disciples had been praying for years, and their forefathers for centuries before them, for God to come save them and for the Messiah to come. And there He was. And for them to recognize him and learn more about what he came to do, it meant for them to stop doing what was normal. Peter had to stop fishing. Matthew had to stop collecting taxes. James and John had to stop their business. Simon had to stop a life of politics. And in their stopping, they were able to follow. And what is the act of following? It is observing, it is questioning, it is pursuing, it is BEING in the presence of someone, and it is doing but the "doing" is different. As I am like you, in this strange season of COVID 19, I have wondered if God has given me this gift to stop doing and instead follow. To be honest, I'm not sure I would have had the guts to do it myself, even though I've had promptings in my heart for a while to change my course. Before COVID19, was anyone else feeling like me, juggling? Don't let a ball drop, I would tell myself. My quiet times would be cut shorter, because I felt that sleep was more of a necessity than feeding my soul. Then rushing out of the house, I decided that that left over chocolate chip cookie at work would be my breakfast, rather than taking the time to make my healthy smoothie that would benefit my body and bring the nourishment it craves (but maybe not what my brain craves). And after a very strenuous day at work, I'd come home and crash (probably more due to the sugar pumping thru my blood than the actual workload) and I would talk myself out of exercising. To make me happy and take my mind off of what I should be doing, I'd get online find a BOGO for some item that I didn't really need and purchase it, not knowing anything about how that item is made, where it comes from, and was it something that I really needed or was it just a temporary fix to the emptiness that I felt. I'd miss opportunities to be there for people that I cared about. And despite the many blessings in my life, I would live fearfully, never really thinking I had enough which would reflect in my willingness to give. Sure I gave, but was it out of sacrifice or leftovers? Press repeat, that was my life. Since COVID19, I've decided to explore even more what it means to follow Jesus with my heart, soul, mind, and strength and love my neighbor as myself. I'm far from perfect, but I have put together a tool for you, that gives you some ideas of how to start implementing the change your soul so desires, to be rid of that emptiness that we are constantly striving to fill. The ULTIMATE RESET GUIDE, isn't everything one should do, but it is a compilation of ideas, some action tips, which is a start! And I believe when we can start observing, learning, implementing some good things, we can start being doers of good as well. (Don't get me wrong, I don't believe salvation comes by what we DO, but in the love and grace of Jesus) But I do see that God has a next level for us to partake in, once we understand what He is all about. It doesn't effect our salvation, but it does effect how we use our lives and fulfilling our purpose here on this earth. We aren't here to be work robots, we aren't here on this earth to be bumps on a log, we aren't here to become rich and wealthy. Could this COVID19 be a tool of redemption. Ultimately Jesus has already done the action of saving us from our sins, if we believe in Him, that he died on the cross and rose again which is what we celebrate on Easter Day! But I would encourage you to see COVID 19, as a "follow me", a reset, a change of course. Bring your questions about Christianity to the table. Ask. Seek answers. Google "apologetic podcasts" to explore more. Find us on social media and start a discussion (not a debate). Find time to sit, listen, read, and learn. Get healthy. Initiate financial, spiritual goals that will allow you to do what God wants you to do. And look for ways to love others. My friend, Jesus is looking at you, in your fears, problems, uncertainties, doubts, insecurities and is saying "follow me". He loves you so much despite what you have done and who you think you are. He wants to give you a new life, nothing of your past will be held over you. He wants you to walk in a new future. This week on High-Dere, Ian & Joe talk about badasses & dead branches with the help of Joe’s new gear purchase, the Suzuki Omnichord. After an impromptu dance off, our hosts talk about old friends from far off lands, handmade furniture and forts, and then dive into past unpreparedness to discuss christian beliefs with anyone who was not a christian. This brings them to condoning the mentality of intolerance, and how slavery hasn’t really gone away in the US; it has simply become more sophisticated by being run by corporations, and having us as the slaves to the “Work” machine. Why should 1 or 2 people get to decide what is good for the masses that live here? And why on earth do we, as humans, charge ourselves to live on this planet? Doesn’t that make prisoners into “Commodities” rather than “People” who are in need of rehabilitation for their “actions”? Additionally, shouldn’t Ian & Joe have been able to see the exhibit on the Dead Sea Scrolls for free? They talk about how something so supposedly old and important to humanity shouldn’t be used as a tool for an association to make a buck. We should all be able to see these important things and contemplate what they mean and/or what they mean to us for FREE.
