Kevin is a martial arts sensei and well-being expert who has travelled across the globe for over 35 years teaching his unique techniques that include yoga, meditation and breath work and martial arts. He is a 6th Dan Kickboxing and 2nd Dan Ju-Jitsu. His own life has been a testing one which led him to embrace a life dedicated to helping others reveal their own true path. Having enjoyed active careers in dance and semi professional football, he then began training in Iyengar Yoga with Ruth White as well as senior Iyengar practitioners, such as Shandor Remete. Kevin spent a year in Australia working for Greenpeace while then continuing his travels through USA, Nepal, Thailand and South East Asia, in pursuit of a deeper understanding of philosophy and the synthesis between Yoga and spirituality. While completing his studies to became an Anusara Immersions Teacher, a chance meeting with the renowned Buddhist monk Ahbay Tulku Rinpoche was to change his life forever through the deep spiritual friendship that developed. He describes his work as helping others move into the more deeper aspects of themselves and the world around them. We talk extensively and deeply about life's major questions that cross everyone's minds at some point, such as why are we here and what is our reason for being. Kevin offers simple and yet practical steps to embrace our uniqueness and step by step find an inner peace that can help us not only in daily living but ultimately enrich our life.

Episode 98 Women in Synthesis, Part 1: Managing their Musical Identities Playlist Daphne Oram, “Four Aspects” from Oramics (2007 Paradigm Discs). This piece was composed in 1960 after Oram left the BBC Radiophonic Workshop and was running her own start-up. Four Aspects uses the Oramics instrument that she invented. It demonstrated her interest in creating works that were longer than the short snippets of music that she had produced for radio and television themes. The piece was patiently crafted and is strikingly harmonic, exploring a rich tone field that lacked the herky-jerky nature of other tape music of the time. You will hear the development of musical chords and harmonic fields from monophonic tone generators that she combined during mixing, developing gradually shifting texture employing filtering and loops. 8:06 Daphne Oram, “Pulse Persephone” (1965) from Oramics (2007 Paradigm Discs). In the 1970s, La Barbara, along with Meredith Monk, emerged in America as two of the premiere practitioners of avant garde vocalizing. Some might recognize the name of this piece as possibly a tribute to Cathy Berberian, the earlier generation's version of an avant garde diva (La Barbara and Monk would never consider themselves as divas in the sense that Berberian was). Rather than being a tribute to Berberian, La Barbara was responding to a radio interview (apparently broadcast during the intermission of her concert at the 1977 Holland Festival). Berberian was outspoken about the new generation of vocalists and wondered out loud how any respectable composer could write for “one of those singers.” La Barbara's response, composed in response, took excerpts from the interview (20 phrases), edited and rearranged them, altered them electronically to compose this piece. In her liner notes, she only identifies Berberian as another “professional singer.” Take that! 8:01. It omits the spoken sequence at the beginning where Berberian recites the words prior to them being manipulated on tape. John Cage reads previously prepared stories and anecdotes, David Tudor performs electronic music at the same time with no Earthly connection between the two. What's happening to children reaching an age to leave a foster home? What do we do with kids when there is not a good place to go?  Ruth White is the Executive Director of the National Center for Housing and Child Welfare. Children need better homes where they’re protected either with their families or with people who will genuinely take care of them. Young adults coming out of foster also require a stable place to call home so they don’t become homeless. She champions young people in foster homes who have reached an age of majority and normally have to leave. However, many colleges during COVID allowed young people to stay, including foster students. She describes the benefits of the family unification program and her passion to help children.

There is huge wisdom to be found in someone who has been through the same situations as you. When it comes to living with a mental health disorder, gathering insights from those who have been through the same struggles is nothing short of value. In this episode, Timothy J. Hayes, Psy.D., sits down with Ruth White to talk about living with bipolar disorder and what she found would work, not only for those with chronic mental illness but those with no diagnosis as well, on improving mental health and well-being. Ruth White is a Clinical Associate Professor for the School of Social Work at the University of Southern California. With her book, Bipolar 101, she takes us across her research and intimate knowledge about bipolar disorder and the mental health services system in the USA and what people can do to control their symptoms and live better. Ruth White is the Executive Director of the National Center for Housing and Child Welfare. They are fielding many direct service crisis calls during the coronavirus pandemic. They have been able to prevent homelessness in many cases through their resources. She champions young people in foster homes who have reached an age of majority and normally have to leave. However, Many colleges allowed young people to stay and foster students were allowed to stay as well.
