Matt Sobieski discusses the process of helping a manufacturing plant improve its performance by understanding the problem statement and 47 different analyzes. He suggests talking to the plant manager or head of operations to understand the biggest challenges, cost buckets, operational constraints, and capacity constraints. Diving into One of 47 Analyzes Matt explains more about the 47 analyzes, one of which is the cost of goods sold, breakdown, and margin analysis, which helps in understanding the cost structure of the plant. This includes examining production, backlogs, inventory levels, and other factors. In the case of an agricultural manufacturing company during the pandemic, the focus was on streamlining their ordering process to increase productivity. Matt also discusses the importance of understanding the big cost buckets, such as labor, materials, waste, and inventory management. He shares a case where a client had issues with their cost per unit, where they could not get their arms around their cost per unit. The data provided by the client was not high-quality, and it was difficult to differentiate between different lines. Matt shares a few ways to address this issue. Dealing with an Inflationary Environment In the current inflationary environment in the US, costs have been increasing, particularly labor costs. Consultants can help plants by asking questions and providing a fresh perspective to understand why material costs and overtime costs are high. This can lead to better scheduling and equipment utilization, which can help reduce costs and improve productivity. One example of this is an agricultural manufacturing plant where the plant manager was unaware of the importance of morning production meetings. By asking open-ended questions and being curious about how things run, consultants can identify areas for improvement. Overall Equipment Effectiveness Operations professionals should always have a plan for the day and recover from deviations when necessary. Asking open-ended questions and understanding the fundamentals of operations can help identify areas for improvement. One analysis that consultants like to use is the overall equipment effectiveness (OEE), which is a measure of overall equipment effectiveness. OEE is calculated by comparing the performance of different pieces of equipment and identifying areas for improvement. Matt goes on to explain how the analysis of OEE is defined and quality calculated. He stresses that it is crucial to calculate the correct OEE and quality first time, as not all units are produced correctly. It is important to ensure that the correct approach is taken when analyzing OEE data. Identifying Waste in Manufacturing Plants Matt discusses the concept of identifying waste in manufacturing plants, including the classic seven or eight types of waste. They highlight the importance of removing waste to improve efficiency and productivity. One such type is intellect, which involves people using their brain power inefficiently. To identify waste, they suggest using GEMBA (Go where the work is happening) to observe people and their actions. One example is an automotive plant that had a production cell with two operators, causing a lot of motion. To address this, they moved parts from one end of the line to the middle, reorganizing the path for forklift drivers. This resulted in faster unloading times for parts coming in and out of the area. Matt emphasizes the impact of simple things like moving parts to central locations and reducing the time spent on unloading parts and shares an example that helped eliminate waste and improve efficiency and productivity. The Importance of Fresh Perspectives when Addressing Issues in Supply Chains Matt shares an example of a company that had to print labels for products and then wait for them to be printed. To address this, they developed a Kanban system where labels were printed ahead of time for all SKUs, eliminating the need for waiting for labels. This solution was cost-effective and efficient, as it saved labor costs. He also discusses the importance of managing risk in supply chains, particularly during the pandemic. He highlights the importance of understanding the risk associated with individual suppliers, which can help in making informed decisions about ordering buffer stock, onboarding another supplier, or building capability in-house. Matt explains the importance of eliminating single sources of failure in manufacturing. He cites examples of poor performing plants and underinvestment in automation and offers suggestions on factors that need to be analyzed and used to understand what drives failures. Asset Management Analyzes The discussion moves on to asset management analyzes, such as make versus buy, capex, effectiveness, equipment and technology, and life cycle management, which are crucial for businesses to understand their costs and make the right capital investments. Capex is important in determining the cost of repairing a machine versus replacing it, especially in a constrained environment like manufacturing. Assessment utilization is also important, as it helps businesses optimize their equipment usage and preventive maintenance. For example, an aluminum manufacturing plant faced a bottleneck in its cold mill, which was fixed by running longer strands of the same material. This allowed the plant to maintain a lower OEE while maximizing asset utilization. About Matt Sobiesky As an independent consultant at McKinsey, Matt focuses on operations and capability building. He has experience working with clients struggling with cost reduction, capacity increase, or growth readiness. He has worked with a colleague who is known for his expertise in Lean methodology and has a network of manufacturing professionals eager to help them solve their biggest problems. Matt's passion for operations stems from his background in operations and his passion for helping clients improve their operations. He has worked with clients who are aspirational and want to be the best of the best, and he is eager to help them achieve their goals.

Historycy i farmaceuci z Uniwersytetu Wrocławskiego, Uniwersytetu Medycznego im. O staropolskich lekach, a szczególnie o teriaku, rozmawiam z dr Danutą Raj i dr. By móc odtworzyć dawny lek, trzeba najpierw rozszyfrować przepis.

A small, faint “shield” of stars scoots across the southern sky on early summer nights. It represents the coat of arms on the shield of John Sobieski, a 17th-century king of Poland and one of the country’s great national heroes. The shield is the constellation Scutum. Johannes Hevelius first drew it around 1687, using a few stars from a fairly empty region of the sky. He originally named it Scutum Sobiescianum — the shield of Sobieski. But in more recent times, the last part of the name has been dropped. Sobieski became king of Poland in 1674. He built alliances with several European neighbors, and fought the Ottoman Empire when it tried to expand westward. In 1683, he earned fame all across Europe by defending Vienna against the Ottoman army. To honor his native country, Hevelius included the new constellation in a beautiful star atlas, which was published in 1690. He depicted several faint stars as the cross on Sobieski’s shield. The shield has kept its place in the stars ever since then. Unfortunately, the stellar shield isn’t all that much to look at. You need fairly dark skies to see any of its stars. Right now, it’s low in the southeast as night falls. It’s to the upper left of the teapot-shaped constellation Sagittarius. Scutum wheels low across the south during the night, and is in the southwest at dawn. Script by Damond Benningfield

Journey back to the brink of history with us, where the fate of the West dangled precariously during the Siege of Vienna in 1683. Feel the intensity of the Ottomans' siege and Vienna's dire straits as we recount the arrival of Jan Sobieski and his famed Winged Hussars. Their legendary charge, the largest in history, didn't just shift the tide of battle—it signaled the beginning of the Ottoman Empire's decline and left a cultural imprint that echoes to this day, even inspiring Tolkien's tales of Middle Earth. How does it apply today? Can there be a Protestant Christendom? We contrast the heroism and collaboration that marked the battle's triumph with the modern struggle for a united Christian front, delving into the roles Protestantism and Catholic traditions play in today's theological landscape. Most people would love a secret solution to wealth and abundance. If there was just one thing you could do that made it so simple. However, life rarely works that way. There's no get-rich-quick scheme. There is, however, a secret. It's probably not what you'd expect, and it's that creating the best version of yourself is how you build wealth. You are your own secret weapon. By investing in your own skills, knowledge, health, and more, you can create wealth for your family for generations. This requires constant growth because you'll never know everything. When you recognize this fact and commit to lifelong learning, your life can bloom in many ways. [4:16] “I talk about it often, where I say you've got to moonshot your career. Too many people underestimate their own potential, myself included.” By committing to yourself and the continued progress of your career, you can maintain and even build energy for what you do. Once you deplete your energy and excitement for something, it's incredibly difficult to find that energy again. Emmy shares that she sees people take years or decades to get out of this low-energy funk. So you've got to follow your energy and nurture it wherever it takes you. Don't make the mistake of thinking that once you “arrive” at your goal, there's nothing left for you. Emmy Sobieski's Path to Wealth For Emmy, there was no decision about her career trajectory–things seemed to fall into place naturally. When she was a teenager, she collected aluminum soda cans to recycle them for money. By 16, she had saved up $1,800, and her dad helped her to open her first investment account. Her dad gave her four companies to choose from, so Emmy chose to invest in United Artists, which was a movie theatre that sold more than just popcorn. This decision helped her to quadruple her money. So her dad gave her four more companies to choose from, and Emmy put her money into a company owned by her dad's friend. This quadrupled her money again. Emmy's investments were so successful that she ended up with half a million dollars in her 20s. In her mid-20s, she lost this money and had to build it back up from scratch. Fortunately, she was successful in that endeavor, too. In 6 months she went from -$30k to $90k, while in grad school. Zygmunt to imię. Najpierw Karol II, a potem Jakub II. Ten Jakub II wrócił do religii katolickiej. Wtedy doszło do chwalebnej rewolucji. Wkładano do niej coś gorącego np. Najpierw rządziła Maria II Stuart, a potem jej siostra Anna. We Francji mieszkał więc syn Jakuba II. Chciał on wrócić do Anglii i zostać tam królem Jakubem III i z tego powodu nazywa się go pretendentem. Ta dynastia panuje do dzisiaj. W 2013 roku Elżbieta II zniosła to prawo i teraz następcy tronu, np. Gdyby on umarł królową zostanie jego siostra Charlotte. A gdyby ona umarła królem zostanie najmłodszy czyli Louis.

To teach students the lingo that gets people into Wall Street, Emmy Sobieski took it upon herself to transform how the students in her alma mater, the University of California San Diego (UCSD), approach investing. She collected them and handed them materials to learn. After two weeks, they will return to present an investment pitch. That initiative quadrupled the number of students that got into Wall Street in the following years. In this episode of Wealth Science Podcast, Emmy Sobieski talks about her obsession for teaching, how she elevated a fund that belonged to the top 10% best all the way to 1% in the 90s, and the best advice she's heard in her 25 years as a professional investor. Outline of the episode: Emmy Sobieski – a sophomore in college with $320,000 If you're not hiring from 50% of the workforce, there will be losses Students couldn't get into Wall Street quickly because they didn't know the lingo The greatest takeaways Emmy collected from the people she worked with How Emmy Sobieski reads people Catch up with Emmy Sobieski: https://www.linkedin.com/in/emmysobieskicfa/ (LinkedIn | Emmy) Sobieski https://www.emmysobieski.com/ (Website | Emmy Sobieski) Connect with your host Jesse Futia on: https://www.linkedin.com/in/jesse-f-ba54b9147/ (LinkedIn | Jesse) Futia https://www.facebook.com/jesse.futia/ (Facebook) | jesse.futia https://twitter.com/FutiaJesse (Twitter) | @FutiaJesse jesse@execequityinvesting.com Don't forget to connect with https://www.linkedin.com/company/wealth-science-podcast/ (Wealth Science on LinkedIn) Find out more about passive real estate investing by clicking http://www.execequityinvesting.com/ (here)! Två böcker på engelska är Andrew Wheatcrofts The enemy at the gate: Habsburgs, Ottomans and the Battle for Europe (2009) och Peter Dennis Vienna 1683: Christian Europe repels the Ottomans (2008). Jerzy Franciszek Kulczycki opened Vienna's first coffee shop in 1683, thus kickstarting the world famous Viennese café culture. In fact, Kulczycki's fame in Vienna has even eclipsed that of Jan III Sobieski. When the Polish king led the charge against Grand Vizier Kara Mustafa Pasha's camp from Kahlenberg Hill and saved the city, it was not Sobieski who the Viennese crowds feted, but Jerzy Franciszek Kulczycki. Through the approved apparitions of Fatima, Akita Japan, Kibeho Rwanda, San Nicolas Argentina and others God and Our Lady have made it absolutely clear that if enough people answer the call and pray the Rosary, souls can be saved, and world events can be altered. When the 3rd Secret of Fatima, a vision which showed a world in ruins and many souls lost, was revealed publicly in the year 2000, then Cardinal Ratzinger who became Pope Benedict the XVI, explained in a press conference that the secret was a vision concerning the future, but not a vision that is unchangeably fixed. No, it was just the opposite, the purpose of the vision and why it was revealed in the year 2000 is that is shows us what the future tragically could hold unless we respond to the requests of Our Lady. If we respond, everything can be changed – none of needs to happen. All the tragedy or at least some of it can be averted. He said: In this way, the importance of human freedom is underlined: the future is not in fact unchangeably set, and the image that the children saw is in no way a film preview of a future in which nothing can be changed. Indeed, the whole point of the vision is to bring freedom onto the scene and to steer freedom in a positive direction. The purpose of the vision is not to show a film of an irrevocably fixed future. Its meaning is exactly the opposite: it is meant to mobilize the forces of change in the right direction. Therefore, we must totally discount fatalistic explanations of the secret…Rather, the vision speaks of dangers and how we might be saved from them.” Time and time again, God and Our Lady appeal to believers to change world events by means of prayer and sacrifice. When people respond, big things happen. The Feast of the Holy Name of Mary, that we celebrate today, stands as a solemn reminder of this Fact. The question is, will we heed the call of Mary and respond? The Battle of Vienna In 1571 the Muslim Ottoman invaders were driven back in the Battle of Lepanto, due primarily to innumerable people praying the Rosary because the Christian fleet was badly outnumbered and out gunned. I'll share that story with you on Oct 7, on the Feast of Lady of Victory. With the failed sea invasion, the Muslim Ottoman Empire decided upon another strategy, seeking to conquer Europe and Christianity by land. By 1683, the Islamic forces had surrounded and laid siege to Vienna, the gateway to Western Europe. The leader of the Muslim army was Mustafa Pasha, whose army swelled to 140,000, compared to only 11,000 within the city walls. Obviously, the Viennese were no match. If Vienna fell, nothing would stop the Muslims from sweeping through the rest of Europe. A Religious Sister in Rome named Sister Maria Candida Columba Fachineti wrote Pope Innocent XI on July 19, 1683 of a vision and message she had received from God and Our Lady that 1000's of Rosaries in honor of Our Lady of Victory must be said in all the Churches in Rome. If this request would be heeded, Mary would save Europe from the invasion of Islam. The Pope and the people responded with countless Rosaries prayed. Pope Innocent XI then appealed to King Jan Sobieski of Poland. He led the most feared cavalry in Europe, called the winged hussars because they had sown eagles feathers to back of their armor and looked like eagles flying as they rode into battle. More importantly, Sobieski was ardently devoted to Mary and the Rosary. When he received word from the pope, he gathered his cavalry and army, went straight to Czestochowa, where the miraculous Icon of the Black Madonna is kept, consecrated themselves to Mary, then marched more than 400 miles, to Vienna. Sobieski ordered his army to pray the Rosary as they journeyed. At the same time Blessed Marco d'Aviano, A Franciscan monk and Chaplin to the Christian army in Vienna encouraged the army and the people of Vienna to resist the Turks by praying the Rosary on each day of the siege.
