An Unpunished Attempted Coup Paves the Way for a Successful One

On January 6, 2021, we watched on live television as Donald Trump and several Republican members of Congress incited a violent attempted overthrow of our democracy. This insurrection led to several deaths, including police officers who later died by suicide. When Joe Biden was sworn in as President in January 2021, Democrats controlled both chambers of Congress. Instead of using their time in power to pass a resolution or bill banning Trump and his supporters from holding office under the 14th Amendment's "insurrection clause" (Section 3), they held hearings that concluded with a report and a referral to the Department of Justice for possible criminal prosecution. In the 2022 midterms, Democrats lost the House due to America's worsening gerrymandering crisis. Attorney General Merrick Garland waited two years to appoint Special Prosecutor Jack Smith. While some credit the Democrats' January 6 committee for prompting Garland to take action, the reality is that both Democrats and Garland wasted valuable time. In the four years since January 6, 2021, no resolution or bill was passed in Congress to enforce the insurrection clause of the 14th Amendment. Instead, a group of voters and legal experts attempted to bar Trump from the ballot in Colorado, leading to legal cases such as Trump v. Anderson. In early 2024, the Supreme Court ruled that states could not bar federal candidates, and that applying the 14th Amendment was up to Congress. So, why didn't Democrats act in 2021 and 2022 when they had two years to enforce the U.S. Constitution? We need an honest accounting of how an insurrectionist will be president just four years after leading a violent attempt to overthrow our democracy. Democrats deferred to Merrick Garland, who then deferred to Jack Smith, who ultimately dismissed his Trump cases in November 2024, after Trump won one of the closest elections in U.S. history. This election took place amid rampant disinformation and the consolidation of far-right media, including Elon Musk's takeover of Twitter, turning it into a platform for (pro-Trump and Russia) disinformation–the largest in the world. At the same time, Republicans and the Supreme Court over the years undermined the Voting Rights Act and expanded voter ID laws–a modern day poll tax, disenfranchising 21 million Americans. As Andrea and Terrell discuss in this week's episode, the 2024 election was neither free nor fair. The institutions meant to protect us failed. As Gaslit Nation has long warned, an unpunished attempted coup leads to a successful one. The institutionalists and controlled opposition who enabled this crisis don't realize they are not safe either. Once a dictator is in power, no one can control them. We also point out that George Orwell warned us about fascist bootlickers like Trump/Musk fanboy Lex Fridman, whose three-hour interview with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky can be summed up by Orwell's quote: "Political language is designed to make lies sound truthful and murder respectable, and to give an appearance of solidity to pure wind." Gaslit Nation officially calls on Lex Fridman to stop quoting Orwell on his podcast—Orwell would have hated you. Want to enjoy Gaslit Nation ad-free? Text and and let us know your thoughts on today's stories!Special Prosecutor Jack Smith brought a superseding indictment against Donald Trump this week in an effort to avoid running into the issue of presidential immunity as he seeks to prosecute Trump for interfering with the results of the 2020 election. Legal experts are praising the decision, but Trump got on Truth Social and absolutely lost his mind, which was to be expected. Also, there is nothing funnier than watching Republicans grasp at straws as they attempt to attack Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. This week, a new controversy erupted over a very old post on Walz's Instagram page, where he is seen pictured with a dog and mentioned that his dog, Scout, had fun at the park with this other dog. Conservatives tried to claim that it was proof that Walz is suffering from some sort of mental problem because that wasn't his dog, but the reality is that these people don't understand context. And it looks like Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. didn't think things through properly when he decided to suspend his independent presidential campaign to help Donald Trump win the election. Kennedy said that he was pulling his name off of the ballots in swing states in order to give Trump an edge, but it was revealed this week that he can't actually do that because he missed the deadline. So this means that Kennedy's grand plan has already been thwarted because he didn't read the fine print. Finally, if you want to know how different the two presidential campaigns are, look no further than at what happened on Tuesday of this week. Vice President Kamala Harris was out talking about her plan to provide millions of new housing units to low income Americans, even going further than she previously had by outlining how the plan would work. On the Republican side, instead of talking about policy, Donald Trump released a new set of digital trading cards to sell to his supporters for hundreds of dollars. Harris is trying to rebuild the country while Trump is trying to line his own pockets.Subscribe to our YouTube channel to stay up to date on all of Farron's content: https://www.youtube.com/FarronBalancedFollow Farron on social media!Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/FarronBalancedTwitter: https://twitter.com/farronbalancedInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/farronbalancedTikTok: https://www.tiktok.com/@farronbalanced?lang=en

This should be interesting as Kamala didn't make it to the primary after being smoked by Tulsi Gabbard in 2020. Before her appointment to the Supreme Court in 1993 by President Bill Clinton, Ginsburg had already made significant contributions to the legal field, notably through her work with the Women's Rights Project of the American Civil Liberties Union during the 1970s. Her strategic litigation before the Supreme Court as an attorney broke down numerous legal barriers, leading to greater gender equality. Justice Ginsburg's opinions, both majority and dissenting, on the Supreme Court bench were known for their clarity, depth, and unyielding dedication to civil rights. Notably, her dissent in cases like Ledbetter v. Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. inspired legislation to ensure fair wages for women, highlighting her influence extending beyond the judiciary to the legislative domain. Ginsburg's legacy is not only embedded in her monumental judicial writings but also in her role as a cultural icon, affectionately dubbed "Notorious RBG," symbolizing her enduring impact on generations of lawyers, activists, and ordinary citizens. Her passing in September 2020 was mourned across the nation, reflecting the profound loss of a legal titan who dedicated her life to advancing equality and justice for all Americans. The IRS, in collaboration with the Department of Justice, has initiated a significant enforcement push against crypto tax fraud, marking a new phase with the first standalone criminal charges in this domain. Frank Richard Ahlgren III from Austin, Texas, faced accusations of underreporting or failing to report over $4 million in Bitcoin sales for the years 2017 and 2019, along with significant capital gains derived from these transactions. This case is notable as the first instance where charges were made solely for failing to accurately report cryptocurrency earnings and gains on tax returns, signaling the IRS's increased focus on tax compliance within the cryptocurrency sector. The IRS has been enhancing its efforts in understanding and regulating the cryptocurrency market, issuing guidelines on crypto staking and proposing rules for broker reporting, which would mandate exchanges to report user transactions and identities. Experts see this as a major advancement for the IRS, reflecting years of building technical resources and expertise to tackle crypto tax fraud independently, without relying on other criminal investigations.Tax compliance for cryptocurrency can be complex due to the difficulty in tracking the purchase and sale history of digital assets, complicating the determination of tax obligations. Despite misconceptions about the anonymity of crypto transactions, the IRS is actively disproving this narrative, hiring industry experts to deepen its understanding of the space and strengthen its enforcement capabilities. The Ahlgren case, if it proceeds to trial, will pose a significant challenge in educating the jury about the intricacies of cryptocurrency, setting a precedent for future prosecutions. Legal and tax professionals are closely monitoring this development, anticipating more actions from the IRS as it continues to target underreporting and tax evasion within the rapidly evolving cryptocurrency market.IRS's First Crypto Tax Charge Signals Beefed-Up Enforcement PushWalt Disney Co. is employing an unconventional strategy in its fight against activist billionaire investor Nelson Peltz, by reviving the character Professor Ludwig Von Drake, Donald Duck's uncle, to influence its shareholders. In an effort to counter Peltz and nominees from the Trian Group and Blackwell, Disney launched a social media campaign urging investors to support only Disney's board nominees for the upcoming annual meeting on April 3. This marks a significant move by Disney to not just appeal to institutional investors but also to the retail ones, highlighting the importance of every vote through the creation of votedisney.com and engaging storytelling involving classic characters.Peltz, known for his aggressive proxy battles, including a notable one with Procter & Gamble, aims to instigate major changes within Disney, criticizing its lagging profit margins compared to other media giants and calling for restructuring across its business lines. Disney's campaign is a testament to the gravity with which it views Peltz's challenge, employing tactics like political-campaign-style videos to directly address and counter Peltz's and his allies' propositions. The company has gone further by attacking Peltz and other nominated board members, labeling some as "disgruntled former employees," thereby illustrating the personal stakes involved in this boardroom battle. Peltz, in response, has launched his own website and published a manifesto highlighting Disney's operational missteps under CEO Bob Iger, advocating for significant structural reforms, especially in its studio operations. The discourse between Disney and Peltz mirrors political campaigning, with both parties securing endorsements and presenting detailed plans for Disney's future. Disney has rallied support from significant figures, including members of the Disney family and influential business leaders, to bolster its position ahead of the shareholder meeting. The contention underscores the broader issues of governance and strategic direction at Disney, especially concerning succession planning and operational efficiency.Key to understanding the drama at Disney is the universal proxy card rule. The universal proxy card rule allows shareholders in a contested election to vote for a combination of management and dissident nominees using a single proxy card. This rule aims to ensure fairness and transparency in proxy voting by enabling shareholders to cast their votes more accurately according to their preferences, regardless of whether they attend the shareholder meeting in person or vote by proxy. By providing a unified method for proxy voting, the universal proxy card rule enhances shareholder democracy and facilitates more meaningful participation in corporate governance decisions. The rule enables institutional investors to consolidate their voting power across multiple shareholders, facilitating their ability to influence corporate governance decisions and effect significant changes within a company. The ongoing proxy fight, accentuated by the universal proxy card rule, represents a crucial juncture for Disney, reflecting the intricate dynamics of shareholder influence, corporate governance, and the power of narrative in determining the future trajectory of one of the world's most iconic entertainment companies. As the April 3 meeting approaches, both Disney and Peltz remain steadfast, each confident in their vision for the company's future.Disney Revives Donald Duck's Uncle for Showdown With BillionaireJustice Sonia Sotomayor's recent public comments about feeling "tired" and the workload on the Supreme Court have sparked quiet concerns among progressives, reminiscent of the anxiety surrounding Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg's refusal to retire during Barack Obama's presidency. Despite Sotomayor nearing her 70th birthday, there's little pressure from progressives for her to step down before the November election, which could see a shift in control to the Republicans. This situation echoes past regrets over Ginsburg's decision to stay on the court, which ultimately led to a conservative shift following her death. The hesitance to call for Sotomayor's retirement stems from the sensitivity around advocating for the departure of the first woman of color on the Supreme Court. There's an ongoing conversation within progressive circles about the strategic timing of Supreme Court retirements, though public discussions are rare. The Supreme Court's role as a pivotal policy-making entity in the country adds to the complexity of suggesting a justice's retirement, as it feels akin to a personal attack on their legacy and contributions. Not everyone supports the idea of Sotomayor stepping down, considering she is not the oldest nor the longest-tenured justice on the bench. Concerns about her health, given her Type 1 diabetes diagnosis, don't seem to impact her ability to serve, yet there's speculation about whether she'll want to continue for several more years.Historical precedents of justices retiring under like-minded presidents, or due to health issues at politically inconvenient times, provide a mixed picture on the predictability of Supreme Court retirements. The possibility of Sotomayor retiring to ensure a successor aligned with her views is debated, especially considering the potential for political shifts in the Senate that could impact the confirmation process.Calls for Sotomayor's retirement are few, partly due to the fear of repeating accusations of bias that emerged during discussions of Ginsburg's tenure. The current political climate, with an upcoming tight presidential election and competitive Senate races, makes the timing of any retirement particularly consequential. Advocates for Sotomayor's retirement emphasize the strategic benefit of ensuring a like-minded successor, acknowledging the uncertainty of future political landscapes and health concerns. However, expecting a justice to retire in an election year is seen as unusual, highlighting the delicate balance between judicial independence and political strategy.Quiet Fears About Sotomayor Echo Ginsburg Retirement ConcernsA federal judge in Florida, U.S. District Judge Aileen Cannon, denied former President Donald Trump's request to dismiss a criminal case against him related to the possession of classified documents after leaving office. Trump's legal team had argued that the charges were vaguely defined, but Judge Cannon, appointed by Trump himself, found the issue warranted consideration but was not grounds for dismissal at this stage. Trump faces a 40-count indictment, accusing him of illegally retaining sensitive government documents post-presidency, marking one of four criminal cases against him as he campaigns for reelection.Judge Cannon also addressed Trump's claim that the documents were "personal" rather than government property, suggesting this argument could be explored during the trial rather than leading to an outright dismissal of the case. Trump has actively filed legal challenges across his multiple criminal cases, arguing, among other points, that a trial should be postponed until after the election. Notably, if reelected, Trump could potentially halt the federal cases against him, though state law cases would remain unaffected. The timeline for the trial remains uncertain, with Special Prosecutor Jack Smith proposing a July start, while Trump has suggested August, emphasizing his preference for a post-election trial. Trump's legal strategies have seen varied success in other cases, including a pause in a federal case about the 2020 election results pending a Supreme Court decision, and complications in a Georgia state election subversion case due to procedural issues. Additionally, Trump's New York state trial concerning hush money payments has faced potential delays.Judge denies Trump motion to dismiss classified-documents case | ReutersThis week's closing theme is by Hector Berlioz. The most famous classical piece associated with the Ides of March is likely the "Ides of March" movement from Hector Berlioz's "Symphonie Fantastique." This movement is part of a larger symphony that tells the story of an artist's obsession with a woman. The ominous and foreboding tone of the "Ides of March" movement captures the sense of impending doom often associated with the Ides of March, famously known as the date of Julius Caesar's assassination.Hector Berlioz, born in 1803, was a pioneering French composer, conductor, and music critic of the Romantic era. Renowned for his innovative orchestration and dramatic flair, Berlioz revolutionized symphonic music with his groundbreaking compositions. His masterpieces, such as the "Symphonie Fantastique" and the opera "Les Troyens," showcase his vivid imagination and emotional intensity, earning him a lasting place in the classical music canon. Berlioz's unique style, characterized by its grandeur and expressiveness, continues to inspire and captivate audiences worldwide, cementing his legacy as one of the most visionary composers of the 19th century.Without further ado, the second movement from Hector Berlioz's  “Symphonie Fantastique,” enjoy. A crucial legal proceeding has been slated in the pending case involving the handling of confidential material by ex-President Donald Trump, a pivotal development being closely watched. March 14 is when Judge Aileen Cannon intends to evaluate a 'motion to dismiss' the case, a lengthy session where the lawyers on both sides of the aisle will present their respective arguments in detail. The lawsuit's fate may well rest on this hearing. If the judge sides with the defense, it could signify the end of the trial concerning the classified documents. Lawyers representing Mr. Trump are advocating for the case's dismissal, asserting the principle of presidential immunity. The defense bases its argument on the U.S. Constitution. They reference the Impeachment Judgment Clause to argue that a president cannot be subjected to criminal prosecution unless he is first impeached and convicted by the Senate. This principle, they maintain, justifies immunity from legal charges relating to his presidential tenure. They further argue that the Presidential Records Act gives the president indomitable authority to define certain records as personal. This, in their view, confirms that Trump had a legal right to possession of the disputed documents. Yet, contrary opinions are being voiced by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith's team.See omnystudio.com/listener for privacy information.

Three of the four Trials former President Donald Trump faces this year made news last week.  The Federal Election Interference Case in Washington, D.C. was delayed. Court officials are waiting for a decision from the D.C. Court of Appeals on Trump's claim that he can't be prosecuted because of Presidential Immunity. Because this was delayed, the "Pay-offs to a Porn Star" Case in New York could be back on Track. The Documents Case in Florida had a significant filing by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, who also met with the Judge. And, of course, the Georgia Election Interference Case had a deadline of last Friday. Feb. 2 on a Motion to Dismiss from three of the defendants.      That Motion accused Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis of being involved in an "inappropriate relationship" with one of the Special Prosecutors she hired to assist her in the case.  You can watch a YouTube video I'm producing for more on this story. Donald Trump's legal team is asking a judge to hold Jack Smith in contempt of court for continuing to file motions in court, even though the case has currently been "stayed" as both sides await a ruling on Trump's claims of immunity. Smith is free to file motions while the case is paused, the only thing that CANNOT happen is that the judge cannot continue issuing rulings and moving the case forward, something that Trump's team apparently doesn't understand. And voters in the state of Massachusetts have filed a lawsuit to boot Donald Trump from the 2024 ballots in the state, citing the 14th Amendment. The number of states with ballot challenges to Trump that are either in effect or still pending is continuing to grow, but ultimately his fate in 2024 is going to rest with the US Supreme Court. But even before the court rules, these state challenges are vitalAlso,  Donald Trump, Jr. celebrated the release of the "Epstein List" this week by proudly boasting that liberals were upset because his dad wasn't on it. The only problem with this claim is that his dad was not only on the list, but he was mentioned in court filings and depositions no fewer than four separate times. While his dad wasn't accused of any wrongdoing, he definitely showed up on that list, contrary to Junior's claim. Finally, Donald Trump is leaning into the fact that an absurd number of Republicans believe he was anointed by God, and he shared a video this past week that proudly declared "God gave us Trump." Trump is trying to shore up his support from the evangelical community, which will be harder this time around because he doesn't have the uber-religious Mike Pence as his running mate.

In today's Trish Regan Show: Understanding the Implications of the Supreme Court's Decision on the Trump Immunity Plea. The Supreme Court announced it will not intervene before an appeals court regarding Trump's claim he is immune from prosecution, suggesting the former president's trial will be delayed. Special Prosecutor Jack Smith had hoped to expedite the case to the Supreme Court, bypassing the District Appeals Court in D.C. but the Supreme Court says that Smith must follow standard procedure. This is seen as a win for the Trump legal team and may interfere with Jack Smith's March 4, 2024, D.C. trial start date. In this special live episode of the Trish Regan Show, Trish Regan considers the implications of this decision, including what it may mean for the 2024 election cycle. Today's show opens with another example of me never getting tired of being right. I suggested on yesterday's show that Liz Magill, President of the University of Pennsylvania didn't have a change of heart because she realized how wrong she was to not acknowledge calls for genocide against Jews was against their code of conduct. Instead, I stated that the only reason she was apologizing was due to one or more alums pulling their annual gifts to the college. My show wasn't even 24 hours old when the word hit that $100 million was being pulled away from the college. It also looks like Penn is being sued on behalf of some students who were, in fact, harassed and bullies. And, we found another professor on the staff of UPenn who stated her pro-Hamas/anti-Israel beliefs. On top of that, I found a piece written in the Harvard Crimson where their president, Claudine Gay, expressed her deepest apologies for how she came across during Tuesday's testimony before Congress. The reality is, we know why they could not answer the question because if they admitted the anti-Semitic behaviors were against their code of conduct, the next question would be why they didn't do anything about it. This is the catch-22 of their own making. Next, we move to my friend Tara's weekly Top 10 News Items you probably didn't hear on your Legacy/mainstream media. One of those items, 9 new Hunter Biden indictments, is what we jump into next. Seems US Attorney David Weiss has filed 9 significant charges against Hunter in the state of California. I take time to breakdown just how much Hunter spent during a 3-year period and how he claimed to his ex-wife and child that he had no money. Joe Biden calls Hunter “the smartest man he knows” and yet this guy is as dumb as a box of rocks and two scoops of dirt. Mollie Hemingway, Editor-in-Chief at the Federalist made some additional observations and even included a friendly tip for Hunter, notably, don't admit to criminality in your memoirs before the statue of limitations has run out. We then discuss a letter Rep. Barry Loudermilk (R-GA) sent to Rep. Bennie Thompson (D-MS) about destroying all the evidence they collected, yet found a letter indicating they gave much of that evidence to Fani Willis in Fulton County, GA for her racketeering indictments. On top of that, Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) sent a letter to Fani Willis indicating his committee wants to see all of the collusion and documents shared between her, the J6 Committee, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith's office and the White House. The timing and collusion of all this reminded me of something former Speaker Newt Gingrich said back when the big Fani Willis indictments were announced. Finally, we close with two sillier news items. The first, according to a new law in California, if a retailer doesn't have a gender-neutral toy aisle, they will be fined $500. I have a solution for them and I think it's worth implementing state-wide. Second, remember when Kevin McCallister went to the grocery store in Home Alone? In 1990, his groceries cost $19.83. Today, those exact same items would run $72.28. Thanks, Bidenomics for making Christmas so special. Take a moment to rate and review the show and then share the episode on social media. This day in legal history, November 13, 1956, marked a significant moment in the American Civil Rights Movement. The U.S. Supreme Court, in a decisive action, upheld the ruling of the U.S. District Court in the case of Browder v. Gayle. This landmark decision affirmed that the segregation practices on Montgomery, Alabama's public buses were unconstitutional, effectively dismantling the legal basis for bus segregation in the state. The origins of Browder v. Gayle can be traced to the District Court, where the case was argued on April 24, 1956, and a decision was issued on June 5, 1956. This case, brought against the Mayor of Montgomery, W.A. Gayle, challenged the constitutionality of Alabama's bus segregation laws. The U.S. Supreme Court's refusal to review the case allowed the District Court's judgment to stand, thus legally ending segregation on public buses in Montgomery. This Supreme Court decision resonated beyond the courtroom. On the day of the ruling, Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., a key figure in the Montgomery Bus Boycott and the broader Civil Rights Movement, was in court for a trial concerning the legality of the boycott's carpools. It was during this trial that he received news of the Supreme Court's affirmation of the District Court's decision. Moreover, the decision held that bus segregation violated the due process and equal protection clauses of the Fourteenth Amendment. This ruling was a significant step forward in the fight against racial segregation and discrimination in the United States. It not only supported the legal argument against segregated buses but also played a crucial role in the successful conclusion of the Montgomery Bus Boycott on December 20, 1956.The impact of the Browder v. Gayle decision extended to prominent figures of the Civil Rights Movement, including Rosa Parks, who was en route to Albany, New York, to speak when she heard the news. Her reaction to this landmark ruling was noted on the back of a program, indicating the profound significance of this moment in the struggle for civil rights. In summary, November 13, 1956, stands as a monumental date in legal history, symbolizing a major victory in the fight against racial segregation and marking a turning point in the American Civil Rights MovementIn a significant development in copyright law, choreographer Kyle Hanagami, known for his work with Jennifer Lopez and Justin Bieber, has successfully appealed a lower court decision in the Ninth Circuit. His lawsuit against Epic Games Inc. claims that the "It's Complicated" dance move in Fortnite video game copied choreography from a Charlie Puth music video. The U.S. Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit ruled that the lower court erred in dismissing the sequence as eight unprotectable "poses," stating that the two-second sequence was more complex than other short dance steps and could be copyrightable. The case is notable for setting new circuit law, suggesting that the brevity of a dance sequence does not automatically disqualify it from copyright protection. The ruling acknowledges the complexities in choreography and challenges the traditional view that short dance sequences are not protectable. This opens new doors for choreographers to press copyright claims for short bursts of infringement, a significant development considering the rise of short dance moves in popular culture, including viral TikTok videos and Fortnite emotes.Several lawsuits against Epic Games over Fortnite emotes have been previously dropped, including those by musician 2 Milly and actor Alfonso Ribeiro. However, Hanagami, having successfully registered a copyright for his choreography in Puth's 2017 song “How Long,” brought his lawsuit in 2022, which the lower court dismissed. The Ninth Circuit's decision emphasizes the importance of considering all elements of a dance sequence, such as body position, transitions, and use of space, in copyright analysis. It also rejects the notion that the length of the copied material is the sole factor in determining its protectability. The court noted that Hanagami's sequence, which appeared four times in the full routine, was the most recognizable and distinctive part, potentially falling in the middle of a continuum between copyrightable choreography and uncopyrightable dance. This ruling has wider implications for the video game industry, particularly in how game companies incorporate dance moves. The direct link between selling emotes in Fortnite and the choreographers' work could affect claims of de minimis use and establish monetary awards. The case also raises questions about the protection of individual dance moves and their integration into larger routines. The Ninth Circuit's reversal of the lower court's approach to choreography represents a significant change in how dance is treated under copyright law. The case, Kyle Hanagami v. Epic Games Inc., is seen as a milestone for choreography's recognition in copyright law, potentially shaping future legal boundaries in this area.Revived Fornite Suit Could Spawn Rare Choreography Copyright LawThe Financial Accounting Standards Board (FASB) recently conducted a post-mortem of its significant revenue recognition accounting standard, ASC 606, to evaluate potential needs for tweaks or clarifications nearly a decade after its publication. This standard, effective for publicly traded companies since 2018 and private companies since 2021, aimed to unify revenue recording practices across industries. However, despite its strengths in reducing complexity and providing a universal set of rules, particularly beneficial for multinational corporations, the standard has also presented challenges. One of the major difficulties identified is the requirement for judgment calls in certain scenarios, leading to uncertainties and often necessitating consultations with the Securities and Exchange Commission. Companies, especially, are seeking clearer guidance on differentiating between being a principal (primary supplier) and an agent (arranger of sales) in transactions, a distinction that becomes particularly complex in multi-party and app-based transactions. The Big Four accounting firms have produced extensive technical guides to address these complexities, but there's concern that these guides might become de-facto rules, potentially overshadowing the official GAAP standards. This situation highlights the nuanced challenges companies face in applying these standards in varied and evolving business contexts.Investors and analysts are also calling for more robust disclosures to gain better insight into key decisions and judgments made by companies under this standard. They express a need for more detailed breakdowns of revenue by type and amount, and clearer information on costs related to fulfilling customer contracts.FASB plans to review the feedback in 2024 and consider potential updates, ranging from adding illustrative examples to introducing new disclosure requirements. The overarching goal is to address the challenges posed by the complexity of transactions and the nuances of the standard itself, as acknowledged by FASB Chair Rich Jones.Landmark Revenue Rules Vex Companies but No Major Changes SoughtFormer U.S. President Donald Trump, currently a leading Republican candidate for the 2024 presidential nomination, has expressed support for televising his upcoming federal trial. Trump, facing charges related to his attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election, filed a legal motion endorsing media requests for live TV coverage of the trial. The trial, set for March, involves charges of attempting to defraud the federal government and obstructing Congress, particularly in relation to his unsubstantiated claims of election fraud that incited the January 6, 2021, U.S. Capitol riot.In his motion, filed by lawyers John Lauro and Todd Blanche, Trump argues that the trial should be publicly broadcast to allow Americans to witness his defense against what he deems baseless and politically motivated charges. He accuses the Biden administration of attempting to conduct the trial "in darkness" and alleges that Special Prosecutor Jack Smith's team is violating his constitutional rights. Trump's filing also criticizes U.S. District Court Judge Tanya Chutkan for allegedly prioritizing political opposition over legal protections.Smith, on the other hand, has opposed the media requests for TV coverage, citing a long-standing federal court rule that prohibits broadcasting criminal proceedings. Smith's concerns include the potential intimidation of witnesses and jurors by the televised coverage. As of now, it remains uncertain whether Judge Chutkan will permit live television coverage of the trial, which is attracting significant public and media attention.Trump backs requests for TV coverage of his federal criminal trial | ReutersThe July 2023 bar exam results revealed a slight decrease in California's overall pass rate, contrasting with the upward trend observed in most other states. Out of the 7,555 candidates who sat for the California bar exam in July 2023, 51.5% passed, a small drop from the previous year's 52.4% pass rate. Notably, first-time examinees in California saw an increase in pass rates, reaching nearly 65%, up from 62% in the previous year.California, which had the second-largest number of examinees after New York, was the last state to report its results for this cycle. Across the United States, 32 states reported increases in their July bar exam pass rates, while 11 states experienced decreases. Seven states had unchanged pass rates compared to July 2022.Despite concerns that examinees who began law school during the peak of the COVID-19 pandemic might underperform, many exceeded expectations. Among the largest bar exam jurisdictions, results varied significantly. Florida saw a substantial increase of 10 percentage points in its pass rate, reaching 61%, and Texas's pass rate rose by 4 percentage points to 71%. However, New York's pass rate remained steady at 66%.Wyoming experienced the largest year-over-year increase, with its pass rate jumping 25 percentage points to 80%, albeit with a small cohort of 49 examinees. West Virginia also saw a significant increase, with its pass rate rising by 15 percentage points to 72%. In contrast, Michigan reported the most substantial decline, with its pass rate dropping from 66% in July 2022 to 55% this year.Looking ahead, the bar exam is undergoing changes. Starting in July 2026, some states will introduce the Next Gen Bar Exam, which focuses more on legal skills and less on law memorization, and will be three hours shorter. Maryland, Missouri, and Oregon have already committed to administering this new format when it debuts. Until July 2028, states will have the option to use either the existing test or the Next Gen exam, after which only the Next Gen exam will be available.California's bar pass rate dipped to 51.5%, bucking upward national trend | Reuters Get full access to Minimum Competence - Daily Legal News Podcast at www.minimumcomp.com/subscribe

And of course, these indictments came down just as we're entering presidential election season — how will Trump's legal problems effect the 2024 race?Sources:Charlie Savage and Adam Goldman, "The Trump Jan. 6 Indictment, Annotated," NYT, Aug 1, 2023Alan Feuer, et al, "The Trump Georgia Indictment, Annotated," NYT, Aug 15, 2023Charlie Savage, "The Four Trump Criminal Cases: Strengths and Weaknesses," NYT, Aug 28, 2023James Risen, "In Trump's Georgia Indictment, a Tale of Two Election Workers," The Intercept, Aug 17, 2023Rick Rojas and Sean Keenan, "Dozens of ‘Cop City' Activists Are Indicted on Racketeering Charges," NYT, Sept 5, 2023Laurence Tribe, "Anatomy of a Fraud," Just Security, Aug 8, 2023Matthew Sitman, "Will Be Wild," Dissent, Spring 2023Damon Linker, "How Do You Solve a Problem Like Trump?" Just in case you have never taken a course in Criminal law, you need to know that while you may not ever be forced to testify against yourself, that's precisely what you're doing, what Donald Trump is doing by taking his damn fool ego to Meet the Press and answering a direct question about his case. Asked whether he was listening to the advice of lawyer or going with his instincts in trying to overturn the results of the election. He said it was him, his instincts, his judgement, his mindset that paved the path to January 6th. Even if Trump never takes the stand in the case against him the case against, he took the stand this morning confessed. It was me It was me. No I don't know whether Trump will go to jail. But if I were his lawyer I'd want to throw him in jail for telling the truth on Meet the Press. Yes he told a bunch of untruths. Fact Checkers say the untruths are in the double digits. But they don't mean squat to the Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, who has experience in convicting war criminals, none of whom went on National TV to say it was me. I wrote the book. I cooked the plot. I lit the match. It was me.  There may be dumber Republicans Lauren Boebert. But not much dumber. She cleaves to Conservative Republicans in Colorado and across the country. That's the source of her funding, the source of her power. So it's not a great idea for her to be seen in a theatre groping a guy who is groping her groping a who runs a gay friendly nightclub with a lot of drag queen entertainment. I don't doubt that she's ok with it. I know I'm Ok with it. But I also know the Conservative Republican is not ok with their Angel being devilishly off message not in words, but deeds.  In the Jewish Faith is Day 2 of Rosh Hashona. The Jewish New Year. 5784 on the calendar observed by the Faithful. To my Jewish followers, all the best for good health and happiness. Shana Tovah.

This is likely our most contraversial episode but has substantial importance given Donald Trump being charged on similar charges. Trump fans think Special Prosecutor Jack Smith is evil despite him giving Trump the opportunity to defend his positions in court. This binary decision (evil or hero) is unintellectual and an unfortunate nature of current society. Is free speech absolute in America?  After hundreds of years, the next two decades in America will likely be sorting out what these foundational documents such as the Bill of Rights and Constitution mean in a modern day society.

Today opens with an apology from, as she called herself, the crazy plane lady. I thought her viral video followed by her apology made for a nice way for me to open on a Monday with a comment on emotions and human nature. I think we could all use a little more grace in our lives and her story gave me the opportunity to opine on that for a moment. We immediately jump to the David Weiss fallout from Friday. It's nice to see how so many others came to the same conclusions I brought to you on my show. Miranda Devine, Rep. James Comer (R-KY) and Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) all reiterated the terrible work US Attorney David Weiss had done prior to being named as Special Counsel. Now, all this does, is project the Biden's even more. U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan is a real piece of work. People have been diving into her prior comments about President Trump and his supporters as well as her support for the BLM riots during the summer of love 2020. Her biased, hyper-partisanship shines through every one of her comments and actions, yet we are supposed to believe she will give Trump a fair hearing. Speaking of bias, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith didn't just start going after political opposition with Trump. For those who may not remember the name Lois Lerner, it might be a good idea to do some reading. She was the head of the IRS who targetted Tea Party groups and would deny them their applications for non-profit status. Unsurprisingly, Jack Smith, back in 2010, was part of this movement to try to find a way of criminalizing them and their movement. Seems like the company hired to “register” democrats in 2020, GBI Strategies, LLC was getting a whole lot of money from a dark money super PAC. FEC records indicate payments from BlackPAC to GBI Strategies in excess of $11.2 million dollars. This is the same company behind the 8,000-10,000 fraudulent voter registrations. What's crazy is the Secretary of State, Dana Nessel, who never once mentioned the fraud investigation now has a comment. According to a press release from her spokesperson, there was no fraud in Michigan because they found out about this case and immediately stepped in and resolved it. We are supposed to believe that a group that was paid more than $11 million dollars across multiple states to register democrats had only one person who was doing that illegally? That was the ONE instance of fraud in the whole state, let alone the rest of the country? While on the subject of fraud, how does it make you feel to know both Dr. Anthony Fauci of the NIAID and Dr. Francis Collins of NIH made over $325 million dollars in royalties for the vaccine work used by private companies in fighting Covid-19? Does it make you think they really had public health first and foremost in their minds? It should make you madder than mad to hear this. Finally, I end with the reading of a report on a terrible wildfire that destroyed millions of acres and a lot of lost lives. No, I'm not talking about Hawaii, but the Great Fire of 1910 that hit Idaho and Montana. We had less people. Less pollution and less CO2 in 1910, yet a massive wildfire occurred in 1910 that was as bad, if not worse, than what happened in Hawaii. Yet, the zealots of the Church of Climatology want to use the event as means of stoking fear and forcing your compliance to their insane designs. Don't fall for it. Push back on these purveyors of lies and deceit. The only way they remain in control is if they are allowed to get with their fabrications. Today's show opens with a revelation that hit social media and a few news outlets last night about missing documents and videos from the J6 Committee. I found this to be of keen interest, given Special Prosecutor Jack Smith has been in the news indicting Donald Trump on January 6 charges. Now, when Trump's lawyers will likely seek to subpoena those documents, the new Oversight subcommittee looking into the J6 Committee has discovered as much as half may be missing. To help shed some light on this, I invited US Congressman Barry Loudermilk, chair of the committee to discuss what they've found and the progress they've made. We chat about documents, videos, missing testimony from the Capitol police chief and more. We even talked about whistleblower protection laws and how hard it is for Republicans to get the truth out via a Legacy/mainstream media who is only interested in supporting Democrat narratives. I next move onto a story that broke yesterday from the state of Michigan. According to The Gateway Pundit, they reveal a story of massive 2020 voter fraud, including an estimated 800,000 ballot applications sent to non-qualified voters and tied to a Democrat-funded organization with multiple temporary facilities in several states. Why have you never heard about it? Because, once local police escalated to state police and the state's Attorney General, it was then referred to the FBI where it seems investigations go to die and evidence disappears – at least if it's tied to the Left. With all that fraud coming out in Michigan, I thought it might be nice to shift our focus to another battleground state. I play two back-to-back sound bites of people testifying under oath. One details ballot harvesting and intimidation in elder care and assisted living facilities, while the other was a US Postal worker ordered to “find mail-in ballots” hours after the polls had already closed and change their post-marked to before Nov 4. While we've been so focused on all of the indictment headlines, it looks like the US has just approved the first batch of M1A1 Abrams tanks to be shipped to Ukraine. Oh, and to anger President Putin further, they may be stocked with uranium depleted ammunition. Remember, Putin said he was pushed to move short-range, tactical nukes to Belarus after Canada sent depleted uranium ammunition to stock their tanks they sent to Ukraine earlier this summer. Speaking of distractions, while we keep getting sold a bill of goods called Bidenomics, one of the regimes green tech companies just declared bankruptcy. Biden lauded Proterra as innovators and pioneers of EV buses, but now it seems those buses will never see the light of day. All those tax-payer subsidies have gone up in a poof of smoke. And, while on the subject of buses, we need to spend a moment with our Vice President. To close the show, I bring you yet another installment of Deep Thoughts with VP Kamala Harris. I open today's show with a bit of a side-trail into how a three-legged stool relates to our own personal health and well-being. As human beings, we are innately wired for a belief system. When we take away a belief in a higher power or plane, it will be replaced with something else. That's what we see with the Church of Climatology. It has it's faith, it's worshipers, it's acolytes and it's tithing. But that wasn't the main focus of today's show. The first news item I dive into rebuts a Tweet from form Clinton-ite, David Axelrod. He claims Joe Biden cannot be behind the DOJ's persecution of Donald Trump. The only problem with that is it completely ignores the Biden insiders and confidants who told the New York Times the exact opposite. To show you have intellectually vacant much of the Legacy/mainstream media is today, I use a CBS story on the Devon Archer testimony. It's a perfect illustration of what we see when a rare bit of actual journalism, brought by Catherine Herridge, runs up against the anchorette of the Evening News, Anne-Marie Green. This leads to a great tweet put out by Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) who is now 3 for 3 in aiding the Republicans in showing just how weaponized and two-tiered our justice system has become. While trying to be cute and clever, pointing out four areas where Trump committed a crime, all he ends up doing is proving this regime is criminalizing the First Amendment. They want to silence all opposition to state narratives and the Bill of Rights keeps getting in the way. In a whiny attempt to keep Donald Trump from being able to communicate about his J6 case, Special Prosecutor Jack Smith filed a request to keep him from speaking. This was on Saturday. On the same day, the judge gave the Trump team until 6PM Monday to respond. Normally, something like this would have the standard two week runway, but not for Trump. Even a request to extend the deadline was denied. So, Trump lawyer, John Lauro appeared on Fox News Sunday to address the request and how this is a First Amendment battle being waged. As a reminder of the Ukraine situation, presidential hopeful Vivek Ramaswamy asks if our current foreign policy is being dictated by the relationship Hunter, and by extension, the Biden Crime Family had with the country. NBC News mocked his tweet, which only leads me to ask, why isn't worth investigating? Why is that premise immediately dismissed? With all we know and have seen corroborated, it seems like a logical line of inquiry to me. Finally, we end with Rep. Dean Phillips (D-MN) who thinks we are missing just how brilliant and amazing our Vice President is. So, in answer to this, I play just a few of her most recent sound bites and leave it to you, my learned audience, to decide if Rep. Phillips hit's the nail on the head or not. Today's show opens with NBC News declaring, after all of the evidence, testimony, emails, picture, SARs, text messages and more, there is nothing to see here when it comes to Joe Biden. They have decided on a bold strategy of not just ignoring the news, like many of their peers, they have become the leaders in telling us they see nothing here at all. This eventually leads to a comment former AG William Barr said to Kaitlan Collins on CNN. Barr said any attorney defending Trump should plan to find themselves as part of future criminal investigations. That is a stunning and horrifying comment to hear from not just an attorney, but the former Attorney General of the United States of America! I already made the case they are criminalizing the First Amendment and now they are telling attorneys, if you choose to defend the “wrong” clients (as determined by the state), you could be committing a criminal act yourself. On the subject of criminal act, Alan Dershowitz says Special Prosecutor Jack Smith broke the law by intentionally leaving out exculpatory evidence when he made his case to the D.C. Grand Jury. In his mind, that should mean the case bypasses the local judge and goes straight to the Supreme Court of the United States. I then spend a moment discussing mail-in ballot fraud and how easy it is to commit. I remind everyone, it's not about adding millions of ballots across the nation, but a few thousand in a handful of key battleground states. And, to go with this, I just happen to have a story of how an elections forensics team said they believe upwards of 34,000 ballots in Wayne County, Michigan (Detroit), are illegal. But, I guess just stating that aloud, I have committed a felony per the standards set forth by Jack Smith. Victor Davis Hanson put out a piece entitled, “Two sets of laws for two Americas.” I think he has a valid argument. It goes along with the two-tiered system I've been discussing for the whole of the Biden regime. When we compare identical charges or circumstances, we definitely have one set of laws for the Left and a different set for the Right. In honor of all Jack Smith is doing to protect the Biden Crime Family and the Left's effort to destroy the Bill of Rights, we turn to comedian Jim Gossett who brings us a song called, “Jack Smith to the Rescue. As we head into the weekend, I do end with three ridiculous news items for your laughter and enjoyment. NBC Senior White House Correspondent Kelly O'Donnell tried to be snarky in a Twitter post about Donald Trump's plane needing to wait to taxi off the runway. Epic fail. Next, The reverend Al Sharpton tried to play righteous historian, stating our esteemed Founding Fathers, like Thomas Jefferson and James Madison, would never even consider overthrowing the government. Anyone want to tell him? And, finally, we get a brand new installment of Deep Thoughts with VP Kamala Harris. In her latest version of word salad, she mixes up a doozy as only she can conjure. Today's show opens with me reading some of the key parts of the just released transcript of the House Oversight Committee's interview with Devon Archer. It's one thing to hear a few bites from the Tucker Carlson channel on Twitter, but to get the official testimony carries more weight. The sections I bring to you show how both he and Hunter understood what the Biden “brand” meant and it got them access to opportunities. But, that access was a two-way street. People were not bringing Hunter into prosperous positions just because of his last name. They knew, in so doing, they were getting Joe Biden. This is made even more clear when it comes to the Ukrainian energy company Burisma. Devon testified that Burisma would have likely gone under had it not been for the Biden Brand. It not only gave the company an intimidation factor to keep legal questions away, when push came to shove, it got tenacious prosecutor Viktor Shokin fired. Devon goes on to confirm Joe Biden did attend several business dinners and would be put on speaker phone at other business meetings to impress the clients. It was an obvious move to show Hunter could get to his dad anytime it was needed. But what about the firing of Viktor Shokin. Remember, Joe Biden, when bragging about it, said they had to replace him because he was bad and they needed someone who was solid. At the time of the firing, Rep. Tom Malinowski, former Assistant Secretary of State under President Obama, went on CNN to say they had to remove the “crooked prosecutor' in Ukraine “who was not bringing prosecutions in on anybody.” Let's call that THE BIG LIE. What they meant to say was he was getting way to close to exposing just how deep the Biden's (and other US officials) were in with their corruption and he had to be removed. To illustrate, I break down the records of the previous two Prosecutor Generals for Ukraine and we discover Shokin was a machine. He was rooting out much more corruption and had prosecuted more cases than both his predecessors combined. The irony is, when he was fired, his replacement literally did nothing. In fact, the new Prosecutor General even changed the rules to help the CEO of Burisma get out of paying for anything and the corruption charges just disappeared. Switching to the criminal indictments handed down by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith, Kash Patel weighed-in and came to a similar conclusion to what I said on my show yesterday. Donald Trump is going to have a field day with his list of witnesses he will want to bring into court. And let's not think Smith is acting on his own. A reminder of a New York Times piece reveals Joe Biden wanted Trump prosecuted and even made a point of telling AG Merrick Garland to take some decisive action. But, even Alan Dershowitz agrees that even if the D.C. courtroom finds Trump guilty, it will never survive an appeal to the Supreme Court. Former Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard also weighs-in on just how close we are to losing our Republic. Based on her observation, our system of laws is so corrupt, it's no longer recognizable as the country our Founder created. In other news, more documents show just how bad the censorship demands were on Facebook from the White House. In expletive ridden complaints, the White House wanted more access, more data and more control over the content. And, just like with the Twitter files the content they wanted to censor were true stories about adverse affects of getting vaxxed. So, even truthful information could be considered “disinformation” if it runs contrary to the approved state narrative. Finally, I have to touch on the horrible misrepresentation of the state of Florida's Black History curriculum. Thanks to VP Harris grossly mischaracterizing it, even conservatives have been fooled by the Legacy/mainstream media into believing the content says black Americans “benefited” from slavery. It's preposterous. One of the architects of the curriculum is Dr. William B. Allen, a black professor. I also get word from author Kira Davis on just how wrong everyone is in spreading the Vice President's lies. The sooner we stop watching/listening to the mainstream media, the better. Today we need to look at what the charges really mean that were brought by Special Prosecutor Jack Smith on former President Donald Trump. While I do get into the obscure and antiquated statute he had to contort and twist from 1866 in order to find some way to bring charges, my main focus is in recognizing the bigger picture. On the surface, it really looks like the desperation of the Biden regime to remove the leading political candidate before the 2024 election. But, when you really examine the nature of the charges, the indictment is really an attack on all Constitutional patriots. It's an all-out assault on the First Amendment. The indictment makes it clear, Jack Smith believe if a politician knowingly says something that isn't true, that's a crime. If a politician gets his supporters to listen to and maybe even believe in the lie, that's a crime. If people have chosen to assemble to voice their concerns and the purpose is to demand a redress of grievances related to their concerns, that's a crime. When you criminalize nearly all elements of the First Amendment, there no longer exists anything for us to deal with any other infringements. How can we discuss gun confiscation if we have no right to speak? How do we deal with illegal searches or seizures if it's a crime to demand a redress from the government? When we lose the freedom to speak, we basically lose everything else. But, there is hope. In this overzealous move to criminalize the First Amendment. Jack Smith is opening up the whole of the Federal government to being subpoenaed by the defense. Donald Trump and his lawyers can bring in any witnesses they need in mounting their defense for the charges. They are going to litigate the entirety of the 2020 election thanks to this move by the Special Prosecutor. We also found out that former VP Mike Pence seems to have given his personal notes to Jack Smith and his team. They are specifically referenced in the indictment. On top of that, Pence, who should know better, has sided with Smith, saying Trump should have never put himself above the Constitution. That isn't what Trump did, but is sure is what Jack Smith and the Biden regime have been working towards since the terms of Barack Obama. Finally, we do get to hear some sound bites of Devon Archer who was interviewed by Tucker Carlson. It's hard to imagine how the Democrats are going to be able to keep spinning the innocent Joe narrative with even just a few of his comments. It's just another piece of the story that is helping to reveal just how corrupt and criminal the Biden Family really is. Jack Smith Just Flipped A Crucial Trump Ally

Farron Balanced Daily

Special Prosecutor Jack Smith has now secured a trove of evidence from a close Trump ally, Bernie Kerik. Kerik had been trying for a long time to prevent his materials from getting into the hands of folks at the DOJ, but his lawyer recently decided to waive attorney-client privilege to allow the material to be released. This may seem routine, but once you learn who is representing Kerik things start to make much more sense. Also, Republican Senator Mitt Romney isn't letting go of his hope that Trump can be defeated in the Republican primary, and he published an op-ed in the Wall Street Journal this week laying out his brilliant plan to force Trump out. And, according to Romney's plan, the only way to force Trump out is to force almost every other candidate out of the race first. It is true that a crowded field is going to benefit Trump, but Romney's plan isn't exactly going to sit well with the other delusional candidates who believe they have a shot. And finally, Donald Trump's lawyer Alina Habba was recently "demoted" from being part of his defense team to serving as a spokesperson/legal counsel for his Super PAC. And one of her first assignments has been to downplay the significance of Bernie Kerik's cooperation with the feds. And, as expected, she did a terrible job of trying to explain what happened, and instead went on a deranged rant about Hunter Biden and so-called election interference. She's really bad at this, but Trump still seems to have faith in her.

All eyes are on that Trumpy judge in Florida who's in charge of the Orange Crook's case, with our expectations of her impartiality being basically zero. It must've been too hot in Miami for the waddling hoards of MAGA supporters to show for the former guy's arraignment, cuz the crowd was sparse. Special Prosecutor Jack Smith may still have even more charges for Trump in a different circuit. The Crabs try to figure out wtf actress Cheryl Hines is doing with anti-vax nutter RFK Jr. The GOP mayor of Miami is jumping into the presidential primary cesspool. SCOTUS broke racist hearts in North Carolina by upholding the state's refusal to allow the Confederate flag on license plates. Alabama Senator Tommy Tuberville pissed off his GOP sewer buddies by heading to a MAGA rally and missing a Republican performance art vote. Ivanka's Instagram birthday message to her crooked daddy was less than warm and loving. And lots more on today's show!

Welcome back to our Saturday coffee klatch, where Heather Lofthouse (executive director of Inequality Media Civic Action, and my former student) and I examine the highlights and lowlights of the week. Today we look into:— Kevin McCarthy's decision to give Fox News's Tucker Carlson exclusive access to 40 hours of surveillance video from January 6, 2021. Is this a way for House Republicans to plant a “false flag” narrative about what happened on that fateful day?— Two dangerous illustrations of corporations off the rails — the Norfolk Southern Railway derailment, courtesy of the Trump administration's decision to trash proposed safety rules, and a Nebraska meatpacker that's been hiring 13-year-olds to do hazardous work. So why do Republicans continue to demand “deregulation”?— Yesterday's one-year anniversary of Putin's invasion of Ukraine, and Biden's historic (and dangerous) visit to Kyiv last Monday. Why did Biden do it? What's his game plan from here onward?— Special Prosecutor Jack Smith subpoenas Ivanka and Jared to testify. Does this mean the Justice Department's grand jury is on a fast track to prosecuting Trump?— Britain's experiment with a four-day workweek. A good idea? And some final thoughts about President Jimmy Carter. Please grab a cup, pull up a chair, and take our poll. This is a public episode.
