Paul and Jarrad are back from their extended training trip to Texas, Ohio, and Tennessee. During that time they had the opportunity to conduct some low light / night shooting. What was unique and what lessons were learned. We dive in during the Tech Talk from EOTech Inc. During our SOTG Homeroom, we had a sad story to report. Nonetheless, the lesson is an important one. You don't get to decide when you are going to have the worst day of your life, someone else will decide that. All you can do is be prepared to deal with it. Finally, Professor Paul wrote an article for Shooting News Weekly regarding the question; What's it going to take to get people to take traumatic medical training? Two weeks ago, I drove across the country to turn myself in on an arrest warrant out of Walton County, Florida. I am facing two third degree felony charges related to carrying out my duties as the assistant county administrator. Though I am innocent until proven guilty and I am confident that I will prevail in court -- I also recognize that in the court of public opinion one is often seen as guilty until proven innocent. As someone who prides himself on being transparent and unafraid of facing difficult circumstances and challenges head on -- I wanted to give those who follow me more information and greater context about the circumstances that have brought me and my former boss, who is also facing the same charges, to this point in time. Make no mistake -- we were two outsiders who posed as an existential threat to the status quo in Walton County. In December 2023, we blew the whistle and asked the Walton County Sheriff's Office to investigate various matters. Unfortunately, the justice system has been weaponized against us and we are now the victims of political lawfare. pWotD Episode 2753: Matt Gaetz Welcome to Popular Wiki of the Day, spotlighting Wikipedia's most visited pages, giving you a peek into what the world is curious about today. With 1,217,564 views on Thursday, 14 November 2024 our article of the day is Matt Gaetz.Matthew Louis Gaetz II ( GAYTS; born May 7, 1982) is an American politician who served as the U. S. representative for Florida's 1st congressional district from 2017, until his resignation in November 2024. His district included all of Escambia, Okaloosa, and Santa Rosa counties, and portions of Walton County. A member of the Republican Party, he is widely regarded as a staunch proponent of far-right politics as well as an ally of president-elect Donald Trump. The son of prominent Florida politician Don Gaetz and grandson of North Dakota politician Jerry Gaetz, Gaetz was raised in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. After graduating from the William & Mary Law School in Williamsburg, Virginia, he briefly worked in private practice before running for state representative. He served in the Florida House of Representatives from 2010 until 2016, and received national attention for defending Florida's "stand-your-ground law". In 2016, he was elected to the U. S. House of Representatives, and was re-elected in 2018, 2020, 2022, and 2024. In 2020, Matt Gaetz was accused of child sex trafficking and statutory rape. Following an investigation, the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) decided not to pursue charges against him. Prior to his resignation as representative, Gaetz was also under ethics investigation by the House Ethics Committee for allegations of underage sexual abuse, illegal drug use, sharing inappropriate images and videos on the House floor, misusing state identification records, converting campaign funds for personal use, and accepting impermissible gifts. Gaetz has denied all of the allegations. In October 2023, Gaetz filed a motion to vacate the position of Speaker of the U. S. House of Representatives, resulting in the removal of Kevin McCarthy from his role as Speaker. Gaetz's actions in leading the motion were part of broader tensions within the Republican Party, with many members critical of McCarthy's leadership and handling of various legislative matters. Gaetz has endorsed the Great Replacement theory. In 2021, he called the Anti-Defamation League a "racist organization" after it condemned Tucker Carlson's promotion of Great Replacement theory. Gaetz said that Carlson "is correct about Replacement Theory as he explains what is happening to America". On November 13, 2024, president-elect Donald Trump announced he would nominate Gaetz to serve as United States attorney general. Gaetz resigned from the U. S. House of Representatives shortly after the announcement. His nomination led to surprise, alarm, and negative reception from some Senate Republicans. This recording reflects the Wikipedia text as of 02:36 UTC on Friday, 15 November 2024.For the full current version of the article, see Matt Gaetz on Wikipedia. This podcast uses content from Wikipedia under the Creative Commons Attribution-ShareAlike License.Visit our archives at wikioftheday.com and subscribe to stay updated on new episodes.Follow us on Mastodon at @wikioftheday@masto.ai.Also check out Curmudgeon's Corner, a current events podcast.Until next time, I'm standard Ivy.

In this deeply personal and inspiring episode, Dave had the privilege of sitting down with the incredibly talented painter Bradley Copeland. Our conversation began with a funny reflection on how long it took to finally get her on the podcast, but the wait was undeniably worth it. In this episode, Bradley opens up about her journey as an artist, her struggles with mental health, and the profound impact art has had on her life. Bradley shared her passion for painting, describing how she would love to spend all her time immersed in her craft, surrounded by friends who come to visit her studio. We delved into her recent return to a productive flow state after a challenging year that left her feeling disconnected from her art. She talked about the therapeutic nature of her work, how painting helps her process emotions and manage her stressr, and the importance of creativity in her life. One of the most touching parts of our conversation was Bradley's recounting of her experiences with the justice system. She spoke candidly about her brief time in trouble with the law, the immense challenges she faced navigating the system alone, and how this experience fueled her passion for helping others, particularly through her volunteer work with the Cultural Arts Alliance (CAA) and the Walton County prison system. Bradley's dedication to bringing art to incarcerated individuals and using creativity as a means of rehabilitation is truly inspiring. We also discussed her origin story, from her childhood love of art to her unexpected transition into a full-time artist. Bradley recounted the pivotal moment when she moved to the beach, met Anne Hunter, and was given the opportunity for her first solo show. Despite a severe burn injury just days before her scheduled show, Bradley's determination to continue painting and pursuing her passion was unwavering. Bradley's journey is a testament to the healing power of art and the resilience of the human spirit. Her story highlights the importance of embracing creativity, not just as a hobby, but as a vital tool for personal growth and mental health. Since its launch in late April, the center, located conveniently on campus, has assisted over 400 students with their FAFSA applications. The FAFSA is crucial for determining federal aid eligibility, though the streamlined form introduced by the U.S. Department of Education in late 2023 has posed challenges. Kimberly Jordan, GGC's Executive Director of Financial Aid Services, highlighted the center's role not only in aiding applications but also in providing personalized support to students. The center remains committed to helping students start or continue their academic journey smoothly. STORY 5: One Man's Efforts to Stop Mulberry Cityhood Continues. What We Know. Stephen Hughes, an eastern Gwinnett resident, has filed a lawsuit against the state of Georgia in Fulton County Superior Court, challenging the constitutionality of legislation that established the city of Mulberry and scheduled its city council elections. This marks Hughes' third active lawsuit related to Mulberry's cityhood. His attorney, Allen Lightcap, argues that Senate Bill 333, which crafted Mulberry's charter and set the cityhood referendum, violates the Georgia Constitution. Hughes seeks declaratory and injunctive relief to halt the city council elections and prevent Governor Kemp from participating in any city transition. The core of Hughes' legal challenge focuses on provisions preventing Mulberry from levying property taxes and mandating specific municipal services, which he contends should be addressed through general legislation, not local mandates. Supporters of Mulberry cityhood assert these lawsuits are backed by developers opposing urban growth initiatives, following voter approval of the city in response to local development proposals. STORY 6: Community Fundraisers for New O'Kelly Memorial Library in Loganville The Friends of the O'Kelly Memorial Library group is actively fundraising to support the construction of a new library facility in Loganville, planned by the Azalea Regional Library System. With contributions from the state, Walton County, and Loganville totaling $5.7 million, the Friends group aims to raise an additional $2 million. This ambitious goal is crucial as the current library, recognized as Georgia's Library of the Year in 2021, has outgrown its 6,700-square-foot space. Challenges include insufficient room for programs and events, underscoring the need for the planned 12,000-square-foot facility which promises expanded services and community engagement opportunities. The Friends group recently received a $10,000 donation from Peach State Federal Credit Union, boosting their efforts towards this transformative project for Loganville. STORY 7: Supreme Court grants Trump partial immunity in Jan. 6 case The Supreme Court, in a 6-3 decision, granted former President Trump significant immunity from criminal charges related to his actions during his presidency, effectively derailing a trial linked to the January 6 attack. While rejecting absolute immunity, the Court ruled that presidents cannot be prosecuted for official acts performed while in office. This decision sends the case back to lower courts and likely postpones any trial until after the November election, where Trump hopes to regain the presidency. Critics argue this delay hampers accountability, while Trump continues to face legal battles in multiple jurisdictions, including delays in Georgia and a pending sentencing in a separate case related to hush money payments. We'll have final thoughts after this. Break 4: INGLES 10 Signoff – Thanks again for hanging out with us on today's Gwinnett Daily Post Podcast. Mental health is a multidimensional aspect of our well-being, encompassing emotional, psychological, and social facets. Hence, it prompts us to view individuals not through the narrow lens of diagnoses but as complex beings with diverse emotional, psychological, and social needs. However, many people fail to separate the person who struggles with their mental health from the labels imposed by diagnoses. As our guest speaker aptly points out, changing the narrative from "that person is a drug addict" to "that person struggles with addiction" is a pivotal shift in language that reflects a more compassionate and accurate understanding. By acknowledging the struggle rather than defining the person by it, we break down the misconceptions surrounding mental health. Together, let's contribute to breaking down barriers, nurturing connections, and ultimately, creating a world where mental health is viewed with empathy, openness, and a commitment to holistic well-being. In this episode, we want to help listeners gain a deeper understanding of the critical components involved in fostering mental health and well-being, both at an individual and community level. We aim to unravel the intricacies of mental health services, the impact of personal stories, and the significance of breaking down stigmas surrounding mental health conditions. Through the exploration of real-life examples and practical advice, we aspire to empower our audience with the tools needed to identify signs of struggle in youth, create a supportive environment, and contribute to the unlearning of prevalent misconceptions about mental health. Join us on this enlightening journey as we navigate the complexities of mental health, challenge stereotypes, and provide valuable insights that can foster a more compassionate and understanding society. Didon Comer and Garrett Horn are some of the longest living full time residents in South Walton… and they're among the VERY FIRST RESIDENTS OF SEAGROVE. Before bridges were built… before roads were paved… before there were grocery stores and restaurants of any kind… there was Didon Comer's $3000 gulf-front property in Seagrove Beach. Garrett Horn, author of “Postcards of Seagrove”, shares stories alongside Didon about what is was like to live as pioneers in one of the most beautiful beaches on the planet. They describe vivid scenes of a different, more innocent time in South Walton; like uncovering ancient Native American pottery in the dunes, hanging out in the general store that is now Red Bar, and being the only people on the beach for miles in any direction. We also talk about the rich artistic heritage of the area. Of why it isn't a coincidence that, through the years, so many Creatives have called this place home. Before this episode, I held a strong belief that Walton County is somehow special. Magical, even. That the magic that permeats here actually pre-exists us. Now I'm sure of it.

Beverly used to be a member of the Florida House of Representatives, but she has come out of retirement to fight for our children. For example, when Beverly shows up with a slide show of what they are showing kids from kindergarten to elementary, they won't even show them to adults, let alone children. Kilmer is a Republican politician who served as a member of the Florida House of Representatives from 1998 to 2004, representing the 7th District. She unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2004 against Congressman Allen Boyd, and again for the Florida House in 2016. Kilmer was born in Detroit, Michigan, and dropped out of high school to have a family. She later earned her GED and attended the Matrix Institute of Business, and moved to Florida in 1970. She became a hairdresser and opened up a chain of hair salons in Tallahassee, ultimately deciding to run for office after testifying against a proposed regulation that she thought would hurt hair stylists. Florida House of Representatives In 1998, Kilmer announced that she would run against incumbent Democratic State Representative Jamey Westbrook in the 7th District, which stretched from Miramar Beach to Marianna and Tallahassee. Shortly after Westbrook filed for re-election, he was indicted for defrauding a federal peanut quota program after he falsified farming quotas and federal disaster claims for farmers.] Shortly afterwards, Westbrook's wife, Gayle Westbrook, also filed to run in the Democratic primary, and they announced that they would decide which of them would actually run for the seat.Ultimately, Gayle dropped out of the race, leaving Jamey Westbrook as the Democratic nominee. A contentious general election ensued in the ancestrally Democratic district, with Westbrook emphasizing his humble roots, and his innocence of the charges brought against him, by airing television advertisements showing him riding his tractor through his peanut fields—which inadvertently reminded voters of his looming indictment. In the end, Kilmer narrowly defeated Westbrook, 51–49%, winning by just 800 votes, which came from her sizable margins in Bay County, which she won 66–34%, and in Walton County, where she won 76–24%. Kilmer joined a Republican-dominated legislature and Republican Governor Jeb Bush, which was the first time that the state had been governed exclusively by Republicans since Reconstruction.[3] When Kilmer ran for re-election in 2000, she was challenged by Westbrook, who was acquitted of the charges against him just weeks after he lost re-election in 1998. The state party targeted Kilmer for defeat, hoping that Westbrook's acquittal and the district's history of voting for Democrats would allow them to pick it up. However, Kilmer ended up expanding her margin of victory over Westbrook, defeating him 53–47% as the Florida Panhandle overwhelmingly backed George W. Bush over Al Gore in the presidential election. Kilmer sought a third and final term in the House in 2002, when she was opposed by businessman Cliff Thomas, the Democratic nominee.Despite Kilmer's close previous races, Thomas received little outside support and ultimately lost in a landslide, receiving only 41% of the vote to Kilmer's 59% What is the Watchmen Declaration How can we stop the evil that has taken over our planet? If Jesus has told us to stand up, what exactly are we supposed to stand up to? If we are living in prophetic times, then what is our action plan? Even more importantly, what, if anything, can we all agree on? Join some of the people that helped craft "The Watchmen Declaration." We can stand together and push back the darkness. Please, endorse the declaration at thewatchmendeclaration.com. Purpose The purpose of the Watchmen Declaration is to educate the body of Christ about the latest assaults on our religious freedoms around the world and their prophetic implications. We also want to proclaim how our shared core beliefs can help us to both stand and unite against a common enemy that seeks to destroy our freedoms. History of the Declaration The Watchmen Declaration was developed in the Tampa Bay area by concerned pastors and Christians about the alarming expansion of new forms of religious persecution. We were also inspired by the Ezekiel Declaration made by the pastors of Australia. After many hundreds of hours of conversations, we are proud to share that we have much in common. While we appreciate the freedom we have in Christ to follow our callings and focus on our respective ministries, we were pleased to unite and proclaim a collective statement regarding the essential articles of our faith. Because the “Watchmen” represents a vital function within the body of Christ, everyone is welcome to use the declaration as it is written. Join us as we interview Beverly Kilmer, the CEO of Freedom Speaks Coalition, Inc., about what is going on in our schools. Beverly used to be a member of the Florida House of Representatives, but she has come out of retirement to fight for our children. Unfortunately, most people don't want to know what is happening inside our schools. For example, when Beverly shows up with a slide show of what they are showing kids from kindergarten to elementary, they won't even show them to adults, let alone children. Join the Supernatural Junkies as we go inside the real agenda they have planned for our children! In Episode 8 Riker Danzig welcomed two professionals from Qualia, a digital real estate closing platform that is changing the industry. Lyman Hopper, a long-time title insurance pro, and Tim Calandro, a senior account executive, spoke with hosts Mike O'Donnell and Bethany Abele about why title and escrow companies are turning to digital platforms to better serve their clients. They explained that, in addition to helping professionals be more effective and productive in accomplishing the numerous tasks associated with closings, the all-in-one platform can make the closing process less stressful by providing automated property data retrieval and personalized dashboards to track workflow. They noted that both established title shops and start-ups are relying more and more on online portals. Associate Desiree McDonald then joined the conversation to discuss A Flock of Seagirls LLC v. Walton County Florida, 7 F.4th 1072 (2021) (not to be confused with the popular ‘80s band A Flock of Seagulls). In A Flock of Seagirls, the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals reversed the decision of the US District Court for the Northern District of Florida regarding an easement. The strip of land in question was at the heart of eminent domain proceedings back in the ‘90s by the State of Florida, resulting in a public access easement allowing public pedestrian access along the beach on the Gulf of Mexico. The easement's stated purpose was to provide "a way of passage." The easement also contained an abandonment clause, which provided that the County would be deemed to have abandoned the easement if the County attempted to use the easement "for a purpose not specified therein." The Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals had to consider whether the abandonment clause of the easement was triggered when Walton County created an Ordinance allowing the land to be used for recreational activity (such as sunbathing, picnicking, swimming, building sandcastles). The Eleventh Circuit determined that the Ordinance constituted an abandonment of the easement, noting that "a way of passage" refers to a locomotive purpose, not a recreational purpose. Further, it found that, under Florida law, the public's right to full use of beaches was not boundless. Therefore, the Court held that the easement was abandoned, protecting the adjacent beachfront property from unwelcome recreational activity.

Monday on Political Rewind: We revisit a conversation with professor, author Ty Seidule. It's been more than 150 years since Confederate general Robert E. Lee surrendered to Gen. Ulysses S. Grant at Appomattox, Va., effectively ending the Civil War. But that conflict refuses to rest easily in history. To this day, some argue why the war was fought, while a larger battle rages over how the nation should honor those who led a rebellion against their own country. As a young boy, West Point professor of history Ty Seidule was taught stories about the glorious lost cause of the South. His childhood hero was Robert E. Lee. During a childhood spent in Alexandria, Va., and Walton County, Ga., Seidule writes, he lived in a bubble, unaware of the dark history of the horrific treatment of Black communities. He tells the riveting story of his coming to terms with U.S. history in a new book, Robert E. Lee and Me: A Southerner's Reckoning with the Myth of the Lost Cause. Panelists: Retired Brig. Gen. Ty Seidule — Chamberlain Fellow and Visiting Professor of History at Hamilton College, author of Robert E. Lee and Me: A Southerner's Reckoning with the Myth of the Lost Cause, Department of Defense representative on Confederate Base Naming Commission Jim Galloway — Former lead political writer, The Atlanta Journal-Constitution
