After experimenting with ponds for over eight years, Greg had a “light bulb” moment during a drive home from the boring summer job he took during college in 1990. He decided that he wanted to do something he loved for a living – he wanted to build ponds. Just 30 seconds later, he had a company name, Aquascape. The next year, Greg began building ponds during his breaks in the school year. From there, he developed the Aquascape business model, which includes a mix of distribution, retail, and contractor services.

Auflage 2021) erschienen, übersetzt in neun Sprachen. ."   U. The next year, he began building ponds during his breaks in the school year. From there he created the Aquascape, Inc. business model, which includes a mix of distribution, retail, and installation services.Greg is a sought-after speaker on topics ranging from water gardening to business success and strategy. He authored The Pond Guy on Marketing and has appeared on the cover of Inc. Magazine. You may have also seen him on Nat Geo Wild's “Pond Stars” series.

Having looked at Sweden's failed plans for Poland, and then at Richelieu's ultimate survival, we return here to the Swedish theatre - this time, the pressure is all on the Swedish Chancellor Axel Oxenstierna, who somehow had to turn everything around, and keep Sweden's war in Germany going. As 1635 turned to 1636, Oxenstierna's desperation moved him to approach Cardinal Richelieu, cap in hand, for a renewal of the Franco-Spanish alliance of 1631. Lacking leverage, Ax Ox was still willing to swallow his pride and do what was necessary, but he knew that what Sweden needed most of all was a victory - a triumph on the battlefield could change everything, and show her foes and friends alike that Sweden was not yet lost.Enter, Johan Baner.**DON'T FORGET TO FOLLOW THESE LINKS!**1) To support the podcast financially in return for some extra audio content, check out Patreon!2) To find a community of history friends, look at our Facebook page and group!3) To keep up to date with us, follow us on Twitter!4) Matchlock and the Embassy, our new historical fiction novel, is out NOW! This week, in a special bonus episode, Greg Wittstock, founder of Aquascape, explains how he invented the backyard pond industry, how he improvised a business model, and how he almost lost it all. After failing at franchising, Wittstock decided to give away his pond building expertise and marketing to landscape contractors in what he calls “a franchise system without a franchise fee.” And it worked. Always candid to a fault, he recounts how the business shot to $59 million in annual sales, why it then stagnated for 10 years, and what he ultimately figured out about social media marketing. Plus: he also explains why his first rule of customer service is: Don't give them what they ask for. Give them what they want.Show Notes:Here's Bo Burlingham's profile of Greg Wittstock: https://www.inc.com/magazine/20031101/aquascape.htmlHere's Greg's video of Shaquille O'Neal's pond installation: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ti-k4LUQBNs

Hello! We at TMM Studios hope you've been well during this break in episodes, over the holiday break, and now here at the end of many people's semesters (shout-out to those on quarter systems). But we're back with regular episodes for your feeds—just in time for winter break! In this episode, we're joined by Stacy Wittstock, a sixth-year PhD candidate specializing in Writing, Rhetoric, & Composition Studies, as well as education studies, at the University of California, Davis. Stacy walks us through an article born from her dissertation project submitted to the Journal of Basic Writing, which examines a cross-institutional basic writing program that was shared between one university of California campus and a local community college. In this fascinating talk, Stacy walks us through the conditions under which the program was created and what eventually led to its demise—all while providing salient takeaways for writing studies today. You can learn more about Stacy's research and work at www.stacywittstock.com. And please email her, too, with any ideas or questions and to follow up on her fascinating project. Also, feel free to follow her on Twitter at @curiousmagpies! My guest today is Melinda Wittstock who was dubbed “disruptive” by her grandmother at a young age, and it's a label she's proudly lived up to as the enterprising female founder of several companies.  While a business reporter for the London Times in her early 20s, she gained a lot of insight into entrepreneurship and building a business from scratch.  After climbing the ranks of the news media world, she helmed the development of a crowdsourcing app, NewsiT, founded and ran Capitol News Connection, and is CEO and founder of Verifeed, a company that helps businesses leverage social media to grow.  Most recently, she founded Wings Media and hosts the Wings of Inspired Business podcast, where she interviews women entrepreneurs. Seeing a need for podcasters to better monetize their businesses, her company developed Podopolo, an app to help podcasters grow and monetize their audiences.  While she's always been involved in the world of media, Wittstock sees herself primarily as a problem-solver and innovator, hallmarks of any entrepreneur. In the podcast, we talk about how working from a mindset of abundance, rather than scarcity, is one of her primary motivators.  Now Let's get better together. Actions to Try or Advice to Take Despite being a former journalist, Wittstock acknowledges that we need to limit the amount of information we consume. Find a few trusted sources, but don't limit yourself to just your own bubble. Try to find the facts everyone agrees on.  Like many entrepreneurs, Wittstock identified a problem that needed to be solved in the industry where she worked. Innovation isn't about ego; it's about finding solutions.  Sometimes collaboration and community, rather than competition, might be the answer. Podopolo relies on these concepts to create monetization opportunities for podcasters.  Work from a mindset of abundance rather than scarcity. For Wittstock, it's as simple as asking, “how can everyone win?”  Links to Explore Further www.melindawittstock.com www.melindawittstock.com/wingspodcast https://podopolo.com/download/ www.verifeed.com Keep In TouchBook or Blog or Twitter or LinkedIn or JSYPR Learn more about your ad choices.
