Kako so bliskovit zlom weimarske republike in vzpostavitev brutalne nacistične strahovlade v februarju leta 1933 doživljali vodilni nemški književniki, gledališčniki in novinarji tistega časa?V tokratnem Kulturnem fokusu smo govorili o koncu sveta. O koncu nekega zelo specifičnega sveta. Govorili smo o zatonu demokracije, kolapsu pravne države, ukinitvi temeljnih človekovih pravic in svoboščin ter vzpostavitvi brutalne, barbarske, totalitarne države. Govorili smo o tem, kaj natanko se je dogajalo v Nemčiji med 30. januarjem in 27. februarjem 1933, med dnem torej, ko je bil Hitler imenovan za kanclerja, in dnem, ko so nacisti izkoristili požar v poslopju nemškega parlamenta, da bi razglasili izredne razmere in uvedli diktaturo. Pri tem nam je bila v pomoč izvrstna knjiga Februar 33, v kateri njen avtor, ugleden nemški kulturni novinar in literarni zgodovinar Uwe Wittstock opisuje zlom civilizacije in vzpostavitev Tretjega rajha. Svojega dela pa se Wittstock ne loteva na suhoparen, zgodovinarski način, ampak se naslanja na bogato zapuščino beležk, pisem in dnevnikov, ki so jih natanko v tistih usodnih štirih tednih pisali tedaj vodilni nemški pesniki, pisatelji, novinarji, režiserji in igralci. Drugače rečeno: Wittstock ne govori o velikih, slej ko prej neosebnih zgodovinskih silnicah in procesih, ki navsezadnje krojijo usodo milijonom, ne govori torej po vsej sili o krivičnem versajskem miru ali množični brezposelnosti ali tradicionalnem nemškem militarizmu, ampak si pomaga z besedami, z vtisi, občutji in premišljevanji retorično kar najbolj nadarjenih, spretnih posameznic in posameznikov tistega časa, da bi pokazal, kako je velika zgodovina konec koncev videti od spodaj, s perspektive individualnih življenj majhnih, navadnih ljudi – pa čeprav so ti navadni, majhni ljudje lahko tudi tako slavni književniki, kot sta, denimo, Thomas Mann ali Bertolt Brecht. Kako je navsezadnje torej videti ta črni mozaik, ta freska mračne zgodovine, ugledane z žabje perspektive, ki jo Wittstock prepričljivo izriše v svojem delu, smo preverjali v pogovoru s komparativistko dr. Seto Knop, ki je Februar 33 pred nedavnim prevedla za založbo Literarno-umetniškega društva Literatura. Greg Wittstock, The Pond Guy, is owner and CEO of Aquascape, Inc. He has been dabbling in water gardens since the age of 12 and has a love of everything water and turtles. After experimenting with ponds for over eight years, Greg had a “light bulb” moment during a drive home from the boring summer job he took during college in 1990. He decided that he wanted to do something he loved for a living – he wanted to build ponds. Just 30 seconds later, he had a company name, Aquascape. The next year, he began building ponds during his breaks in the school year. From there he created the Aquascape, Inc. business model, which includes a mix of distribution, retail, and installation services.Greg is a sought-after speaker on topics ranging from water gardening to business success and strategy. This week, in a special bonus episode, Greg Wittstock, founder of Aquascape, explains how he invented the backyard pond industry, how he improvised a business model, and how he almost lost it all. After failing at franchising, Wittstock decided to give away his pond building expertise and marketing to landscape contractors in what he calls “a franchise system without a franchise fee.” And it worked. Always candid to a fault, he recounts how the business shot to $59 million in annual sales, why it then stagnated for 10 years, and what he ultimately figured out about social media marketing. Plus: he also explains why his first rule of customer service is: Don't give them what they ask for.
