Earnings season is in full swing, but it's not just the US that the Steves have been looking at. There's news from the UK and Europe as well to pay attention to. In quickfire news, Steve D has updates from Prologis and Money Supermarket. One is a big REIT getting the job done and the other is just waiting to come to life. Still. Steve W's contributions this week are CSX and Primary Health Properties. The former is falling after earnings and the other is going nowhere slowly after a capital markets day. Shares in ASML fell significantly after the latest earnings update. The main cause for concern is a decline in the number of net bookings, but Steve D is a buyer of the weakness in the stock. The business has been seeing a little bit of a drop off during a more cautious period for its customers. But reports of the death of AI seem to be greatly exaggerated for this company. Netflix stock jumped 10% after its latest earnings update. And while margins are encouraging, Steve W thinks it's to do with strong revenue growth after a steady decline since 2019. On top of this, the sales growth is encouraging at a time when consumer spending is weakening elsewhere. So could Netflix be something people trade down – rather than up – to? The latest update from LVMH has been relatively disappointing. The company had been fairly resilient against lower consumer spending, but that's come apart lately. Steve D has the latest news – and Diageo shareholders might also want to take note. But a family business with a strong track record could be a good choice for the long term. After a profits warning last month, Rentokil's Q3 trading update surprised investors by not being terrible. The non-US part of the business has actually been growing quite well. The company is focusing on its integration plans for Q4 to get the US division functioning. So is the wait finally over for shareholders who have been looking for results since 2022? Interview with Pedro Oberto, founder of NY Fashion Film Festival - with David Serero - The Culture News
Set and Production designer Shona Heath creates enchanting, dense, and detailed worlds. Dreams within themselves, her visions have been manifested across the pages of top publications, and in collaborative partnerships with the likes of Tim Walker, Louis Vuitton, Dior, Prada, Miu Miu, and SHOWstudio. Her style seamlessly blends contemporary and vintage elements, showcasing a unique, fantastical aesthetic—brought to life through paper sculpting, painting, photography, and prop-building. Most recently, her work on Yorgos Lanthimos's 2023 film Poor Things won an Academy Award for Best Production Design. In an age of worldbuilding, Heath shares a journey from the countryside to imagining entire realms, underlining that creativity plays a role in designing our everyday lives. Episode Highlights: Growing up in the British countryside in a modern sixties home, Heath remembers an upbringing spent outdoors, where she became intrigued with visions of scale; her mother's crafts were also a deep influence. She started her career in costume design and was moved to create a set from paper for Dazed, which turned into requests for shop windows and later collaborations with Tim Walker. Heath's creative process begins with words or an image, but usually, the former encourages original image-making and visualizing. She sees tools like AI as potentially good research tools but detrimental to her own particular craft; its use depends on the artist and their authenticity. She recommends working independently rather than starting as an assistant to an established artist, as then you know how to forge your own path first. Though she used to feel that she experienced “excessive input” when doing a project, she now feels she can better communicate her vision and appease clients and collaborators up front. She prefers the immediacy and direct access of working in photography to working on film sets; Heath remarks she wouldn't be interested in doing a period piece that didn't have an added element of creativity like Poor Things—a film she worked on with James Price, whose decades of film expertise Heath leaned on. Fashion's tendency for retro revisits and zeitgeist trends plays well into her work (as opposed to interior design, which she says has more of a lag time between trends and the trend's appearance in the culture). Her work on Poor Things won her an Academy Award for Best Production Design. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices
BRANDY HELLVILLE & THE CULT OF FAST FASHION dives int a world where fashion is identity for teenage girls and one brand, Brandy Melville, has developed a cult-like following despite its controversial “one size fits all” tagline. Hiding behind its shiny Instagram façade is a shockingly toxic world, a reflection of the global fast fashion industry. Through a calculated social media presence and promoting an unattainable aesthetic, fueled by Instagram campaigns featuring its own employees and select “Brandy girls,” Brandy Melville conferred a sense of coolness to the teens who wore the tiny clothes that quickly exploded and today has nearly 100 stores in over 15 countries and over 80 cities worldwide. Fast fashion isn't all glitz and glamor – it's an exploitative business that pollutes the planet for the sake of profit. Media stories have exposed some of Brandy Melville's unsavory practices and that's why some call it Brandy Hell-Ville. BRANDY HELLVILLE & THE CULT OF FAST FASHION examines the far-reaching reverberations of mass-produced fast fashion by Brandy Melville and other mainstream fashion brands, as well as the consequences of the collective increase in consumption and production of cheap clothing, traveling to Accra, Ghana, a destination for discarded textiles that end up polluting landfills and waters. Director Eva Orner joins us to talk about the cult-like brand and the devastating impact that fast fashion, disposable clothing, and the pernicious culture that Brandy management has cultivated inside and outside the stores, and how prescient BRANDY HELLVILLE & THE CULT OF FAST FASHION is for exposing systemic exploitation within the global fashion industry.

Bonjour à toutes et à tous, and hello everyone! Today's episode will be in english. So welcome to Décousu, the podcast that unravels the thread of Haute Couture and fashion.. One of the main goals of Décousu is to break down the boundaries in order to marry fashion with the many subjects of reflection that underlie it. We have already seen questions of geopolitics, philosophy, literature but also more widely of art and culture. Because fashion, even if it is obviously an industry, also has a major artistic and cultural dimension.. This is why today I am hosting at my microphone Diane Pernet, the creator of the very first fashion film festival: a shaded view on fashion festival, also known as asvoff. Diane is a major figure in the fashion world, and her soul is undoubtedly one that lives for creation. In a selfless way, she created the festival to allow a creative support to a generation of free artists, at the crossroads of two arts: cinema and clothing. Today I offer to listen to a rich and complex exchange around the notion of fashion film, around the question of the feasibility of a purely cultural project in an industry that is conditioned by profit and finally around the need for fashion to be seen as a cultural expression. So without further ado, enjoy the episode and let's meet on Instagram : @decousupodcast

For some Christian Siriano will always be known as the elfin 21-year-old with the punkish haircut, spouting his token “fierce” catchphrase as the winner of the 2008 reality TV phenomenon “Project Runway.” But Siriano, now 36, has far exceeded his pop culture 15 minutes of fame. Named one of Time magazine's most influential people in 2018, Siriano has proven an incredibly resilient force and his work is the subject of a new exhibition at SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film. Felicia Feaster spoke with Siriano recently and she'll bring us that conversation on this week's podcast. Learn more about your ad choices. Visit megaphone.fm/adchoices

Sneakers are everywhere, but they're usually on our feet. Gary Lockwood, aka Freehand Profit, turns them into incredible art. He deconstructs rare, expensive and classic sneakers into elaborate masks that comment on modern crises like civil unrest, war, and climate change, while paying tribute to the emcees, DJs, graffiti artists, and b-boys who laid the foundation for hip-hop and sneaker culture. Remarkably, the masks retain the markings and style of the original shoes. Featuring more than 30 works borrowed from collectors around the world, "Face Value" at SCAD Fash Museum of Fashion + Film is Lockwood's first museum exhibition. http://passion-power.com/ Michelle Zeitlin: I am so excited to be podcasting LIVE amongst people on a real red carpet! This is the first “real life” event I've experienced since the lockdowns started with Covid-19 in March of 2020, and it feels good! This two day event is the La Jolla International Fashion Film Festival, presented by Fred Sweet. Fred Sweet, the organizer and founder of this festival shares his mission and ideas for a world class event where filmmakers, fashion designers and artists can share their purpose driven collaborations in a supportive atmosphere. In preparing for this weekend event July 23, 24, 2021, I had zooms with a few of the jurists including the Iconic Heinz Holba who founded La Models, New York Model Management and several offspring initiatives. Thirty years strong in the agency business, he's worked with the biggest brands, the top designers, buyers and sellers and super models. Beyond running his mini empire for talent and models, he flies his own plane and has three daughters. We also had the pleasure of meeting his teen daughter, a tiny powerhouse herself, Charly, who I know cherished the time with some of my agency clients, Ashli Auguillard, Emily Alabi, Sophina DeJesus, and the lovely Julia Stier who also works with More Zap as a beta reader of scripts and book manuscripts, helps to edit, and I like to say she's my “Emily Blunt” referencing the best assistant ever in Devil Wears Prada! One of the VIPs, Larry Namer- and I enjoyed some face time and though it was very noisy, it was also exciting to be in the midst of the many screening rooms and walk-by traffic with other media reps, artists and film makers walking THE LOT in La Jolla. Larry and I had met years before at his offices for METAN Media in the Valley, and then we got into how he's been involved with this event and why he's inspired. He is the founder of E Entertainment Television, which launched as a cable channel with 2.5 million dollars and is now worth billions and owned by NBC Universal. Gail Garrison, in dark sunglasses and white blond hair bob is a true presence of power- she is the Creative Director of the Global Fashion Channel, and I must say we even had Paparazzi wherever she went! A former Elite model in her youth, she now works with clients and partners in South East Asia and Africa to procure, produce and distribute her original content all about fashion and design. Gail has a resonant voice and resonates creative strength. Finally, Rebecca Bustamante, past president of Women in Film, Washington DC and an actor and creative herself, returned to La Jolla to be a judge and presenter for Best Cinematography. These short films were 6-12 minutes and were developed and produced by artists all over the globe. I got to interview one particular creative team - they call themselves Architects and their film, Savage Facades. Loved all their accents and stories!

Paco Granados nos habló de León Fashion Film un festival que busca proyectar la identidad de León a través del cine y la moda.
I'm so glad this was streaming because this film is a literal 90s indie fashion DREAM. Parker Posey is the vibe. Really and truly.Me and Jai get to the bottom of our favorite looks (there are so many), talk the house music era of the 90s, and talk about the allure of a 90s movie montage only this time with libraries. Random topics include: what nightlife scenes we would have loved to experience, rave fashion, and for some reason a rant on the perfectness of Cillian Murphy.--- Get BONUS episodes on PATREON! www.patreon.com/fashiongrungeGIVE US A 5 STAR RATING & SUBSCRIBE!Hosts: Lauren @lauren_melanie & Jai @jai_stylefactory Music by Den-Mate @imdenmateFollow Fashion Grunge Podcast on Instagram @fashiongrungepod , Twitter @fgrungepod

A fascinating talk about Scandinavian colors and trends, how different these are from colors in other parts of the world, how sustainability and regenerated materials are taking over the world of not just fashion and interior design, but also other industries. Anja moreover explains how our personal preferences, our taste, is related to our very own chemistry. Anja Bisgaard Gaede, the founder of SPOTT, has an MA degree in communication and specialised in fashion, consumerism, and experience economy. Besides numerous presentations, product development cases, strategy sessions and consultations over the past 14 years, she has also published the Danish book Skab god kemi med dine kunder – oplevelsesøkonomi i detailhandlen (Customer Chemistry – experience economy in retail) and edited the anthology Fashion Film and Transmedia.SPOTT trends & business provides Scandinavian lifestyle brands with consumer insight, trend and colour forecast for spot on business development. SPOTT creates the essential links between future trends, consumer behavior and business. This calls for a new and innovative approach where neuroscience, trend forecasting and commercial experience is combined in turning trends into business for Scandinavian lifestyle clients. They range from fashion and design companies, city development, creative colleges, retail, lifestyle organisations and media companies.
'Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design' Award-winning costume designer Ruth E. Carter is an expert storyteller who harnesses the power of visual communication to share vital narratives exploring culture, race, and politics. Creating costumes for generation- defining films like Black Panther, Selma, and Do the Right Thing, she brings vibrancy, nuance, color, and texture to each of her culture-shifting characters. SCAD FASH Museum of Fashion + Film in Atlanta has more than 60 costumes by Carter currently on view through September 12, as well as sketches and ephemera illustrating the designer’s in-depth historical research and creative process for each project. The Ruth E. Carter: Afrofuturism in Costume Design exhibition at SCAD FASH features unforgettable designs from nearly four decades of her career within an Afrofuturistic installation incorporating original artwork by SCAD illustration alumnus Brandon Sadler, whose work was prominently featured in Black Panther. Inspired by African masks and Nigerian textiles, Sadler’s work for the exhibition connects Carter’s celebrated costume designs across various time periods and themes within the overarching concept of Afrofuturism. For more information on the exhibition and to plan your visit, go to scadfash.org. On Wednesday March 24 at 6pm, Ruth E. Carter will participate in the university's signature annual event titled SCADstyle. This marks the first time all of the SCADstyle programming will be virtual for audiences to enjoy around the world. Carter will share the stories behind the costumes in the exhibition. For more information on SCADstyle and Carter's conversation go to scad.edu/scadstyle.

Reportage.
Over the last decade, fashion films have become a cinematographic sub-category in their own right. The genre raises important questions which are now being studied at art schools: are fashion films just a new form of advertising or standalone works of art? Are they the logical extension of a brand's marketing strategy or social commentary? As the birthplace of both cinema and the textile industry, the city of Lyon is launching its first fashion film festival at Lyon 2 University. FRANCE 24 went to check it out.
