    Minimalist March: Decluttering

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 16, 2021 26:56

“ Your physical space truly affects your mental space and so the other way around.”    This episode is the second week of the Minimalist March series. Every week within this month, it will be about something related to minimalism, essentialism, and living more with less. Today, I wanted to talk all about decluttering.   Let’s dive in as we learn more about two kinds of decluttering, physical decluttering and mental decluttering.  [00:01 - 06:30] Opening Segment I give a brief introduction to this month’s series and today’s topic. Minimalist March: Decluttering. Decluttering Minimalist does not merely mean getting rid of all of your belongings. A lot of people start minimalist life by decluttering the things that they do not need anymore. How to start physical decluttering  The easiest place to start is your closet and get real with your clothes. Ask yourself, do you still wear it? When was the last time you wear it? Will you be wearing it in the next 30 - 60 days.  The reward is the feeling after you did it. The other great place to start is your bathroom and your kitchen. Get rid of your old makeup products. Do not keep any broken pieces of equipment. Take inventory of your items and invest in the high-quality items you used. [06:31 - 12:19] Physical Decluttering  Ask yourself so many questions before purchasing or bringing something new in For something that is not urgent, take a second to think about it. Ask yourself, do you need it? Do you have space for it? Will you use and get the value out of it? Know the value of your belongings.  How much value would you get for the things you want to buy, and is it worth the investment? You deserve to get the space, time, and clarity to sit on the decision before you make any purchase and bring something in Your physical space truly affects your mental space. Ways to get rid of things that do not serve you anymore Give it to others, donate it, or sell it. [12:20 - 25:09] Mental Decluttering  The digital decluttering  It Will make you feel so much lighter, clearer, less address, and less attached to the urgency of the digital world. Go through your Apps on your phone. Get rid of the ones that you do not need and organize the ones that you keep. Make use of the ‘Do Not Disturb’ feature on your phone. Limit your notifications and the use of social media. Have the time to be present at the moment with yourself and your loved ones around you. We all deserve the space to be present in our own lives. Unsubscribe from irrelevant things that do not serve you.  Not use that, just filling up your It. Put your routine decision on autopilot. Declutter the amount of decisions that you have to make. It clears up space for you to focus on the things that require more thoughts and mental energy to decide. Physical space affects the mental space and vice versa. Decluttering is an exciting process, so just start where ever you like. [25:10 - 26:55] Closing Segment I hope you enjoy this episode and could implement this into your life. Let me know where you start it with, share your stories, tag me, and mention it to #WorkingOTPodcast. I talk about the topic for next week’s episode. Financial minimalism. Minimalist March: The Minimalist Mindset

Play Episode Listen Later Mar 9, 2021 25:55

“Living more with less, to be able to focus more on what’s most important.”   I am so excited for this month because we are doing a Minimalist March series. So, every week within this month, is going to be about something related to minimalism, essentialism, and living more with less. Today, I wanted to talk about the Minimalist Mindset.   Let’s dive in as we learn more about the minimalist mindset, living a life of intention and essentialism.    [00:01 - 04:30] Opening Segment I give a brief introduction to this month’s series and today’s topic. Minimalist March: The Minimalist Mindset  Don’t forget to submit your questions for the QnA episode of the month. I talk about the meaning of minimalism. Living more with less, to be able to focus more on what’s most important. The ability to declutter everything to make mental time, physical space, and save money. The minimalist mindset Letting go of the clutter that we have to make space for what truly matters, and that was different for everyone. Start with the physical space. A lot of people just get caught up in the aesthetics part of it.   [04:31 - 11:40] The Minimalist Mindset When it comes to the mindset, It is really important to not just adopt this physically but also mentally what clutter we have in our minds? what activities are we doing and focusing on, and putting way too much energy towards those that actually don't really align with our values? Determining your values upfront Live by your core values Filter everything through Focus on what's truly matters I share my experience of letting things go that do not align with your values  The essence of a minimalist mindset  Letting things go that don't align with the life you are creating doesn’t serve you anymore.  You can make space mentally for what you want to focus on, which is contributing to a life you're trying to create. Escaping all of the ‘shoulds’ in our lives It is so vital to escape those societal norms to focus on what we most value. It’s not about what we should do, but what we need to do to live a fulfilling life. Live life by design and not by default. You will not be remembered for the things you have but how you make people feel and those you truly care about in your life.  We get so caught up in how everything is presented to us in the media.   [11:41 - 17:29] Living A Life Of Intention Embrace the minimalist mindset  To look at things from certain light of what's truly important  What does deserve your energy and reserves your time? Not bringing in things to your space. Your physical space affects your mental space. Owning less to have space for what is important. Living a life of intention Evaluate things before you do them and doing something with a purpose Being very intentional about the time that you spend the people that you spend yourself with We live in an opportunity world. There are opportunities at every corner. Being intentional about what you want to dive into.   [17:30 - 24:59] The Essentialism  Essentialism The offshoot of minimalism focuses primarily on just how you spend your time and energy and how that relates to your mentality. Essentialism focuses on what is the best thing to get you to where you want to go first. Prioritize the most essential thing to do on that day. The key to essentialism is figuring out what is essential and not just another task to do. I talk about the upcoming book by Greg McKeown. Take time to determine your top 3-5 values in life. Sit with yourself without distraction to answer the question. Start by writing all your values in life. Rank and out them in a hierarchy I talk about my top 4 values. Anything that I do has to meet those values. My priority has to prioritize along with my values.  Focusing on the vital few; as opposed to the trivial many. [25:00 - 25:55] Closing Segment Determining your top 3 to 5 values, share them with me and the world If you enjoy this podcast episode, please let me know by leaving a five-star review and share it with your friends. Final words from me   Tweetable Quotes:  “Living more with less, to be able to focus more on what’s most important.” - C.N. Sloan. “ Letting things go that don't align with the life you are creating, that don't serve you anymore so that you can actually make space mentally for what you want to focus on.” - C.N. I talk about how we met. Deven shares his background and childhood story. He was born and raised in NYC. Left by his biological father Deven shares about his stepfather, who later became his coach and mentor.   [04:01 – 15:27] Not Letting your Circumstances to Define your Results  Deven shares his experience when he moved to Broad Channel in New York. He faced a relentless cycle of racism and bullying. Deven shares the lesson he got from his story. He learned that he had the ability to determine his future by himself. Do not allow the circumstance to dictate your future; you are the creator of your future. He learned a little bit about perseverance by staying the course.  Deven shares his highschool experience. Met a woman who funded him to go to a private school. Deven shares about the second pivotal moment in his life with his stepfather. If anybody can reach their success, so do you. Go against your barrier, and get a breakthrough.  Once you are willing to get out of your mental prison, you can do anything you want and create your desired future. Deven shares the story of his grandmother’s death and the lesson he got from it. Time is finite, but the legacy that you leave can be infinite and live on forever. Turning your pain into empowerment  The way we attached to our past is how we define ourselves in the present. Deven shares the story of his college experience. He shares his college achievements, although he fell off his freshman year and had to take 21 credit hours. Take the courage to step into the possibility instead of limiting yourself from creating what you desire. Deven shares how he got into the military.   [15:28 – 32:20] Owning Your Story Deven shares about  the three layers of his story Examine your own personal narratives to be a better person The story about who you are The story that you are telling the outside world about who you are. The hyperreal  Examine what you are posting on your social media and notice how we describe ourselves  The story that we tell ourselves about who we are The internal dialog that we have in our heads. Who we think we are in the present state. The story that we want to tell ourselves about who we are All the goals and desires that we have. Take each part of the story, and you'll come to a massive realization that most of the time, people are living in direct contradiction with all parts of their story. It’s only one were able to use all three parts of the story synergistically that we can actually become the person that we want to become in the future. Deven talks about closing the gap between the stories. When you try to reframe things, everything changes. Being flexible and open-minded enough to understand that you might be living your life inauthentically without you realize it. We have to go against the grain of how we're designed as human beings if we want to progress. Evaluating your own narratives Be mentally flexible and open-minded. Willing to accept feedback and be self-aware.   [32:21 – 38:22] Creating the Picture of Who We Want to Become Deven talks about how to create the picture of the person we want to be  Begin with the end in mind Close your eyes and imagine that you have died Reflect and think of how people would say about you, the legacy you left, etc. You will get clear on what is actually important. Only when you can align yourself with that long-term legacy vision that you can start to formulate the picture of the person you want to become. Deven shares his personal mission statement. He talks about the importance of having a personal mission statement. Happiness is transient; it comes, and it goes, but fulfillment is something that never dies. [38:23 – 50:15] The Law of Attraction We can only know what we want once we know who we want to become Picture in your mind what would happen when you achieve your goal  Tap into the understanding of how that would make you feel. Internalize the emotions and the impact so you can start acting as it is already happening You can't control everything that happens, but you can control your response to everything that happens around you.  Your response will dictate your action, and your action will dictate your results. Every level that you're trying to progress up to requires a different you. Deven talks about the momentum aspect. Deven talks about Earl Nightingale. Watch a video on youtube called the strangest secret for one week every day. Be in the constant pursuit of what you want. When you go after what you want with intensity, things will come to you along the way when the time is right.   [50:16 – 56:20] Closing Segment Knowing what you know now, what is one piece of advice for starting? Focus on the important things, always have principles, virtues, and values as your guidance. Don’t be occupied with the urgency of the day to the day list, but align yourself with what is important to you. Start doing things that are important to you, and life will become better. You will go through it or grow through it. Connect with Deven online.  See the links below.   [56:21– 01:10:09]  Off The Clock and Review of the Week Today’s topic will be a book titled Can’t Hurt Me by David Goggins. “When you build rapport with people, you can have a genuine connection with them, and you can start to achieve things with people that you did not think was possible before.”    In this episode, I want to talk about rapport, how to connect and build rapport with anyone. Rapport is the basis of all effective and meaningful communication, and it is very significant in building a connection with anyone.  [00:01 - 04:49] Opening Segment I give a brief introduction to today’s topic. I talk about the meaning of rapport  The basis of all effective and meaningful communication The act of matching and mirroring The importance and significance of building rapport. When you build rapport, it allows you to connect with anyone. You know how to spot when you are in rapport and when you are not People like people who are like themselves or who are like how they want to be. Building connections with people is so much more than just the actual word themselves  I break down the factors of good communication. 38% is the tone 55% is body language Virtually 93% of communication is nonverbal    [04:50 - 15:24] Match and Mirroring    I talk about the first thing we need to learn match and mirroring other   Start with the movement  Mirror someone’s movements Subconsciously it shows them that you like them Posture Match someone’s posture  Subconsciously you are matching their energy Facial expression  Catch the little things that you can mirror  Pay attention to their breathing pace and pattern  The volume of their voice and speed of their talk Some people have their own pace and speed when they talk I talk about the tendencies of how visual people talk  They tend to use several words like; see, look, etc. How auditory people tend to talk They tend to use some words like; sounds, hear, resonate, listen, etc How kinesthetic people tend to talk They tend to use phrases and words like; feel, touch, hand in hand, etc. Auditory digital people The combination of all in reality Working through a process in our mind to get to a certain point The importance of understanding people’s viewpoint of the world in building the connection  Finding the best way to communicate with certain people. When you know how to connect with people, you can do so much more.   [15:25 - 24:34] Connect & Build Rapport with Anyone Do not completely mimic someone else; their exact movement the entire time. The most important is to listen to who you are speaking to. When you are speaking with someone, always say back what they say,  Use most of their own word to let them know that you understood and comprehend the conversation. Make sure that you are listening to people when you communicate. Say their name as often as you can in the conversation. Especially over the phone. Pacing and leading Start to do things and see if they naturally follow your lead. A way to test if you are in rapport with someone or not How to break rapport to get away from the conversation Do the opposite of what they are doing When you have a rapport with people, you can have a genuine connection with them. You can start to achieve things with people that you did not think was possible before.   [24:35 - 34:09] QnA session What are your goals in 2021 for the next five years? I did 3-months, 6-months, and 1-year goals. I rank my goals in order of importance. By the end of the year, I want to be making $10k/ month.  I want to be featured in some kind of success-magazine. I do not have any written out five years goal, to be honest. Before I get 30, my bonus goal is to be featured in 30 under 30 Forbes Magazine. I talk about my three and 6-month goals list I want to hit a certain number of downloads on my podcast. Looking to have two one-on-one mindset clients. Finish my E-book. Read 20 books within six months.  Booked my independent speaking gigs. To launch my master class. I talk about how I set my goals.  Re-evaluate your life, Find out what you want to do, not what society wants you to do. Take that time to be with yourself and think about what it is you really want. Rank them by the importance of it, and start to do it today. Check out my Instagram @CNSloan to submit your question whenever I post about it. Every time you reach a new milestone, you will realize that you weren’t as good as you thought you were, but that means that you are progressing. Kevin talks about what made him decide to leave his 9 to 5 job to be a full-time coach. He took time to make sure that he was financially feasible and emotionally ready. 20% planning and 80% execution principle. Take the risk and do it. You can not plan the whole thing; you just have to execute. He finally found his life purpose in coaching. Your purpose does not have to be the same thing as your career. Everybody has something they can use to be immersed in the fullest giving of their gifts and contribute positively to others.   [21:15 – 39:29] Breakthrough and Unlock Your True Potential Kevin talks about finding your purpose and passion.  Just get started from a point and don’t give up. If you do it for something greater than yourself, you will always feel motivated to keep going. Kevin talks about what mostly holds people back from reaching their potential. Fear is always one of the biggest things that prevent us. Emotional Blockages The subconscious psychological problem that holds us back. Kevin talks about the few first things he works on with his clients. Understand how, why they got to where they are. What is brewing in their subconscious? Your subconscious mind is the most significant aspect of your reality,  It has 98% operating power. You have to get to the root of your issue, not just handling the symptoms.  The thing that keeps people stuck where they are is not accepting that they are where they are because of themselves. Harness that power to create new circumstances for you through your own decision. Kevin talks about his vision for the next five years. Continuing and growing his coaching business Focusing more on speaking and create more courses  Doing what he is doing on a much bigger level. It’s one thing to know something, it’s another thing to do something, and it is another thing entirely to be something. [39:30 – 44:45] Closing Segment Knowing what you know now, what is one piece of advice for starting out? Don’t mistake rejection for failure; just because you are rejected does not mean that you have failed. What lies behind you is nothing compared to what lies inside of you. You can’t go back and change the beginning, but you can start where you are and change the ending. Believe that you are good enough and capable, stay consistent, and do the work.  Have faith; keep believing even when you do not have concrete evidence of something. Two things that a person need to have in order to succeed; Unwavering desire. Unwavering believe. Connect with Kevin online.  See the links below.   [44:46– 55:10]  Off The Clock and QnA session. Shift Your Money Mindset

“Everyone starts somewhere, and anyone can create wealth with the beliefs and the proper systems in place.“ In this episode, I wanted to talk about having a better money mindset and anything related to our mindset and finances. I am not an expert on this, but I will be sharing from my experience what I have learned and some hacks that you can implement in your life. [00:01 - 04:05] Opening Segment I give a brief introduction to today’s topic. I talk about my financial goals.  My word for the year is ABUNDANCE. This year is the year of abundance in life and finances. Paying off all of my debt and becoming debt-free. I talk about certain income goals throughout the year. I talk about sharing my journey to be debt-free on my social media. Follow the page CNSLoan on Instagram. [04:06 - 16:49] Shift Your Money Mindset  The little things make a big difference in your life. Shift the language that I use. Shift the focus from what we don’t have to what we have. A  little money hack; listen to abundance affirmations while you sleep. Ingrains your goals into your subconsciousness.  Start to live and visualize what you want to create. The immense focus on achieving the outcome will help you to reach your goal. We have to recognize when the opportunity comes and take action on it. The money buckets  Secrets of the millionaire mind book by T. Harv Eker 1st bucket 50% for bills 2nd bucket for financial freedom (investment) 10% 3rd bucket for long term savings 10% 4th bucket for your personal development 10% 5th bucket is your play bucket 10% 6th bucket is your contribution bucket 10% Be honest with yourself, look at your finances, and adjust the buckets to your needs. [16:50 - 32:29] Minimalism Money Mindset I talk about the minimalist mindset with money. The control of your spending habits. I talk about the things that I do not buy often. When it comes to buying things, I usually sit on that decision. I talk about the marketing strategy that creates a sense of urgency when it is not. Find the decision-making rules that work for you. For me, the three-week rule is what works. We have to take some time in taking opportunities too Not rushing on things but really sitting on decisions. Surround yourself with the people playing at a higher level or who you want to be like, and modeling what they do. It gives you the beliefs and examples to model. Everyone starts somewhere, and anyone can create wealth with the beliefs and the proper systems in place.  [32:30 - 36:15] Q&A session Where did you start when you made the switch to minimalism? I started with my closet because your closet is the easiest place to start. Ask yourself some questions to decide whether you want to get rid of it or not.  [36:16 - 37:42] Closing Segment Check out my Instagram to submit your questions.  Take one thing that you learned from this episode and implement it today to build your money mindset. Final words from me Tweetable Quotes:  “When we start with gratitude, it will create so much momentum in our lives, and it will make us so much happier.” - C.N. 2021! Setting Your Intentions & Productivity Hacks

Why don’t we stick with our New Year’s Resolutions? The main reason is that we don’t put work into developing those smart goals into clear intentions and put enough reasoning behind them. In welcoming the New Year of 2021 with this episode, I wanted to talk about setting your intentions and being more productive. I will share some information about intention, incantation, and productivity hacks that will help you stick with and reach your goals this year. Let’s dive into this episode and kick start this year with more energy and productivity. [00:01 - 04:59] Opening Segment Welcoming the year 2021 I talk about my internal work throughout December. I talk about the topic of this episode, Setting Your Intentions & Productivity Hacks  Why do we not stick with our New Year’s Resolutions? Two main motivations to be set that will help you to reach your goals. Towards motivation Away motivation [05:00 - 11:59] Setting Your Intentions and Create your Incantation Long-term intentions are the things that I intend to achieve without a shadow of a doubt.  I talk about the difference between affirmation and incantation.  Incantation has a lot of emotions behind it. Set your intention and create an incantation to claim it. I share about my incantation.  Abundance; my intention is to create financial freedom in 2021. Use a more powerful language when it comes to setting your intention and creating your incantation. I choose, I declare, I decide, and I am. When you create an incantation/declaration and put it out into the world, you are getting your body involved. There is a lot of power in the words that we choose to speak to ourselves. What you focus on is what is going to happen in your life. Shape your incantation as if they are already done. [12:00 - 16:39] Peak Energy State When you focus on being in your peak energy state, you will create a lot more results. As you set your goals, take your time to reflect on 2020. Ask yourself how do you want to show up to the world in 2021 Get the general idea of the direction you want. [16:40 - 33:30] Productivity Hacks I talk about being more productive, more focused, and clear. The power of routine Your routine will set you up for success automatically. Routine will help you to avoid decision fatigue. I share about my routine that helped me to feel better when I had COVID. Pomodoro method Work for 25 minutes on a single task without distractions, and take a 5 minutes break. I talk about a Focus Keeper App that I use to help me focus. The Productivity Planner  This planner helps you to set and complete the most important task of your day. Then you can move on to the secondary tasks. [33:31 - 38:59] Invest in a Coach and Mentorship Find yourself a coach or a mentor that can keep you accountable. I talk about one of my incredible coaches, Jake  Havron. I talk about the benefits of having a coach. It is vital to have someone in your corner to make sure that you hit your life goals and lead you in the right direction. You deserve to invest in yourself. I share my experiences and the progress of working with coaches. [39:00 - 42:11] Closing Segment I talk about my plan to do a slight rebranding.  More solo episodes that focus on mindset and personal development. I talked about my first Master Class called Ignited You.  It is all about the steps in transforming your life. I am focusing on the four pillars; mindset, heart, vitality, and foundation. Final words from me Tweetable Quotes:  “When you create an incantation or declaration of your intention and put it out into the world, you are getting your body involved.” - C.N. Let’s dive into this episode and let me tell you three things that will allow you to make this happen.   [00:01 - 03:20] How to be Fully Present I share my experience of being fully present lately When was the last time you took a deep breath and said to yourself that you are so grateful to be in this moment? I am going to share with you 3 vital things to be fully present [03:21 - 10:07] Disconnecting  Disconnect yourself from social media, and mobile phones Turn off your social media notifications.
