Council Accused Of Taking "Too Long" To Address Ambulance Delays In North Clare

Clare County Council is being accused of taking "too long" to address infrastructural issues impacting on access to emergency care in the north of the county. The Midwest Hospital Campaign is highlighting the journey time between the Cliffs of Moher and University Hospital Limerick's emergency department which it says is one hour and 15 minutes at a minimum, and is often hampered by delays at the likes of Blake's Corner in Ennistymon. It calls comes as emergency services had to attend to two separate incidents at the North Clare attraction in one day this week. Ennis resident and Midwest Hospital Campaign spokesperson Hilary Tonge says in addition to a Model 4 hospital in the county town, the roads require urgent attention.

What does it really mean to be a professional in the pet care industry? In this episode, Jenn Dahinten, Chair of PACCC, joins to explore the importance of third-party certification in setting industry standards. She shares how PACCC was founded to support experienced pet care providers with recognition, ethics, and continuing education. The conversation dives into the rising pressure from legislation, public expectations, and why certification helps build trust with clients and lawmakers alike. Jenn also offers practical steps for those ready to elevate their professionalism. Main topics: Third-party certification vs. online courses Legislative pressure and industry regulation Career progression in pet care The role of ethics and continuing education How professionals can influence legislation Main takeaway: “There is a skill set, both taught and intuitive, that's required to provide care for a pet when their owner is away.”– Jenn Dahinten Too often, pet care is seen as simple or instinctual—just for “animal lovers.” But Jenn Dahinten reminds us that caring for someone else's pet isn't the same as caring for your own. It demands education, experience, and emotional intelligence. Certification through PACCC proves that you take your role seriously, and that you're committed to excellence in your profession. When pet parents leave their pets in our care, they deserve nothing less than a certified professional. About our guest: Jenn Dahinten became the owner, and operator of Royal Pets Hotel and Enrichment in 2009 and founded the charitable “Racers Fund”, for retired service dogs shortly after. Having been a pet parent and client of pet care facilities on four different continents she relished the opportunity to provide the kind of loving care, expertise, and professionalism that she always felt our fur family deserved. Before joining the pet care industry, Jenn first was a paramedic (human). Jenn studied Biochemistry at the University of Guelph, Ambulance and Emergency Care at Conestoga College, and then Advanced Life Support Paramedic (L3) at the University of Natal. During her years of providing air/ground emergency care across continental Africa, Europe, and the UK, Jenn was also active in providing veterinary assistance at local small animal practices and shelters. During a subsequent career in pharmaceutical sales, marketing, and training, Jenn returned to Canada and discovered her calling in the pet care and education industry. From the start, Jenn has been an advocate for fear free practices across grooming and training and has ensured that Royal Pets has been at the forefront of setting the standard in pet care. Royal Pets has been a part of both the IBPSA and The Dog Gurus since their inception and is proud to be an active member of the APDT, Fear Free ™ Organization, and PACCC. Jenn continues to provide education and training opportunities locally and within her industry and continues to champion continuing education, certification, regulation, and professionalism as some of the many necessary means to guarantee our pets get the care and attention they deserve. How Alan the 'shit magnet' helped revolutionise Australia's ambulance services

When you call for an ambulance these days, chances are the officers inside will save a life. But 40 years ago, 80 per cent of Alan Playford's passengers would either die on the way to the hospital, or on its doorstep. This is how he, and his colleagues, changed the face of paramedicine for the better. When Alan Playford first joined the New South Wales Ambulance Service in the 1970s, he would drive an ambulance on his own to all sorts of emergencies. With little equipment, and no support, Alan would simply have to bundle people into the back of the wagon and race to the hospital, where lifesaving machines and skills could give them a chance. In those early days, 80 per cent of Alan's patients would die either on the way to the hospital or on the doorstep.Alan and a group of other ambulance officers and doctors knew they could do better and set about modernising paramedicine.Under the leadership of Dr Bob Wright, they began innovative (and often terrifying) training to save more lives.Ambulance officers from Newcastle, including Alan, were among the first to be trained in these new "advanced life support" skills. So by the time the unprecedented Newcastle Earthqauke hit in 1989, Alan used his more than ten years' experience to save lives at the Newcastle Workers Club and on Beaumont Street.Alan went on to makeover the now beloved Westpac Rescue Helicopter, and took his skills to places like Rwanda and East Timor. He gained his nickname the 'shit magnet' for his habit of coincidentally being there to help out in emergencies, even when he's not on duty.Further informationThrough the Rubble is written by Alan Playford and Penny Keogh. It is published by Simon & Schuster. This episode of Conversations was produced by Meggie Morris and presented by Richard Fidler, executive producer is Nicola Harrison. It explores modern history, medical history, Ambulance Union, paramedics, hospital St Vincents, the Hunter, Norm Duffy, natural disasters, lifesaving innovation, medical innovation, ambos, Australian history, war, Rwanda, genocide, civil war, rescue chopper. To binge even more great episodes of the Conversations podcast with Richard Fidler and Sarah Kanowski go the ABC listen app (Australia) or wherever you get your podcasts. This means the operators are run off their feet dealing with all sorts of nonsense. Now there's a startup training its AI agents on 911 calls to help triage and get humans on the more important calls. It's being used in around a dozen call centres today. But can you imagine hearing, "I'm sorry, but I didn't quite understand you... can you say it again... police? Fire? Ambulance?" How do you feel about this one? Tech is helping make fake leather smell like real leather The company, Uncaged, says they can create a durable, animal and climate-friendly material that feels and even smells like leather. Hyundai has partnered with the company to test it for its cars and trucks and joins Jaguar Land Rover on their client list. A car can take anywhere from two to 14 cowhides to do the interior, delivering a carbon footprint 95% lower than that of leather. The automakers need it to be able to withstand hot temperatures for 500 hours, which can be a challenge for non-leather. Companies have been trying this for years – Apple moved away from leather cases for iPhones to a material called "FineWoven" that didn't hold up, and they've subsequently discontinued. Dublin, 2018: In the early hours, a half-dressed, disorientated woman in agony stepped out of a hotel room, into the hallway, and fled. The room she'd escaped from belonged to UFC fighter Conor McGregor. She'd gone back for an after-party, only, it hadn't been a party at all. And hours after leaving, she'd be in an Ambulance, hospitalised with brutal injuries. And now, at the hands of McGregor and his millions of fans, she would re-live this night of horrors for 6 years. But unlike McGregor's previous opponents, this was a woman, a mother, and no matter what he threw at her, she KEPT getting back up. This is the trial of Nikita Hand vs Conor Mcgregor. Resources:The Dublin Rape Crisis Centre  - https://www.drcc.ie/https://linktr.ee/eleanornealeresourcesWatch OUTLORE Podcast:https://www.youtube.com/@EleanorNealeFollow Me Here for Updates & Short Form Content:InstagramTikTok

In this episode of the EMS One-Stop podcast, host Rob Lawrence climbs back onto his soapbox to discuss two topics that directly impact on every EMS agency in America — the CAAS Ground Vehicle Standards (GVS) 4.0 and the simple, inexpensive steps we can take to stop ambulance theft. Joining Rob is longtime EMS leader and current CAAS GVS Administrator Mark Postma, who walks us through the origins of the standards, their national adoption and what's new in the latest update. From ambulance remounting, to structural safety testing, Mark explains how GVS 4.0 has evolved to keep pace with manufacturing realities, supply chain delays and operational needs. The conversation then shifts to a shared passion for protecting fleet assets. Rob and Mark dissect the shockingly frequent problem of ambulance theft and how a $200 automatic immobilization device can prevent a $250,000 vehicle from disappearing — without relying on crews to remember to lock it. In a Priest Driven Ambulance marks a pivotal moment for The Flaming Lips with the addition of Jonathan Donahue as a member of the band (and later Mercury Rev), along with Dave Fridmann behind the board for the first time. The blend of lo-fi psychedelic rock retains the melodic chaos while exploring new experimental territory. Wayne Coyne finds his voice, and tracks like “Shine on Sweet Jesus” showcase his spiritual fixation, filtered through fuzz pedals and existential yearning. It's an ambitious, unpolished gem that foreshadows the band's later sonic evolutions.   Songs In This Episode Intro - Sweet Jesus (Jesus Song No. 1) 23:20 - Raining Babies 32:42 - Take Meta Mars 37:30 - Five Stop Mother Superior Rain Outro - Unconsciously Screaming   Support the podcast, join the DMO UNION at Patreon. Ambulances, Addiction, and a Mic — Von Sprecken's Story On this episode of the Make Mental Health Matter Show with host Kelli Melissa Reinhardt, with special guest Keith Von Sprecken in the studio.  Little bit about Von's story from him:  Raised in abusive home, general trauma from modern life, got into drugs at a young age, got clean, and was in the hospital for suicidal ideation. Ended up working on an ambulance and made a big turnaround. However then I lost my brother to suicide. I am currently a comedian and activist for mental health. Short bio:  As part of lifelong dedication to making his life more difficult than it needs to be, Von knew he had to become an artist. Having honed an ability to laugh at nearly anything from years of dealing with traumatic events (both in his own life and in those he helped as a first responder), Von crafted a wild theory - that anything can be funny (if you just look at it weirdly). After a few years of learning to apply this theory to some of the most difficult struggles of his life…the result is nothing short of magical. Join Von on an intense and outrageous ride as you laugh your way through fear, confusion, and adrenaline - but also love, hope, connection, and what it means to heal. Joanna Sokol's life as a paramedic took her to three different counties: the casinos and trailer parks of the Nevada desert, the cozy beach town of Santa Cruz, and, eventually, the crowded tenements of San Francisco's Tenderloin district. There are no clear villains or heroes in Sokol's world, only a group of patients and medics who are doing their best in a deeply broken system.  She tells many stories of that time in the new book, “A Real Emergency: Stories from the Ambulance.”
