Welcome back to The Business of Wellness Podcast with host, Jaclyn London, RD! Today, Jaclyn sits down with Katia Pryce the CEO and founder of DanceBody. Katia shares her journey of starting and growing her dance fitness business, starting as a performer and realizing that people would pay her to work out with them, leading her to start Dance Body in 2013. She initially rented studio space and focused on building a community of dancers and fitness enthusiasts. As the business grew, she developed a structured formula for the classes optimized for scale, and hired performers who understood the dedication and commitment required. The business evolved before the pandemic, with a shift to digital streaming and a focus on building a hybrid model of in-person and online classes. Katia emphasizes the importance of community and creating a unique brand identity; the importance of being intentionality in business, and the struggle of saying no to specific opportunities so that you can focus on what matters. She shares her decision to focus on digital expansion rather than opening a new brick-and-mortar studio and emphasizes the value of organic brand awareness. Katia also highlights the need for a balanced approach to fitness, debunking the myth of low-impact workouts and emphasizing the importance of cardiovascular training and strength-building as we age. Send us a Text Message. In today's episode I'm going to talk about how music helped me go from hating exercise to loving it and more specifically falling in love with dance. I hope that this episode teaches you all about the incredible power of music and inspires you to get up and dance!Music has an enchanting ability to ignite passions, and for me, it was the catalyst that sparked an overwhelming love for dancing. From the moment the first notes played, I found myself irresistibly drawn into a world of rhythm and expression. The melodies seemed to sync effortlessly with the beat of my heart, urging my body to sway, groove, and twirl in perfect harmony. Each song became a new adventure, a chance to explore movements and emotions I never knew existed within me. What started as a simple toe-tapping soon evolved into an insatiable obsession with dance. It wasn't just the steps; it was the connection between the music and my soul that made me feel truly alive. Music transformed me from a casual observer to an enthusiastic dancer, and in that transformation, I discovered a passion that continues to fill my life with immeasurable joy and boundless energy.MY FAVORITE DANCE WORKOUT CHANNELS ON YOUTUBE:Up to the BEat Fit: https://www.youtube.com/@uptothebeatfitJustina Ercole: https://www.youtube.com/@JustinaErcoleThe Studio by Jamie Kinkeade: https://www.youtube.com/@THESTUDIOBYJAMIEKINKEADENever Stop Dancing: https://www.youtube.com/@NeverStopDancing Support the Show.Keep listening, keep grooving, and let the music in you continue to shine. We all know and love M. Night Shyamalan as a world renowned director, producer and actor who was labeled “the next Spielberg” by Newsweek in 2002. His films have grossed over $3 billion globally with cult classics like The Sixth Sense which received nominations for the Academy Award for Best Director and Best Original Screenplay, Signs, The Last Airbender, and The Unbreakable Series. We may also be fans of Saleka, his daughter who is a singer songwriter and wrote an original song for his recent release, Old, with a voice smooth as silk reminiscent of old school R&B. But today, I'm honored to interview M. Night's wife, Bhavna Vaswani Shyamalan, who is the silent strength of the family and is the glue who is keeping it all together. For more than 15 years, Bhavna Shyamalan, PhD, has served in her role as co-founder and vice-president of the M. Night Shyamalan Foundation. The foundation focuses on discovering and supporting grassroots leaders around the world who are moving depressed communities out of poverty and oppression. These global leaders are empowering their communities by supporting social justice, equality, and access to basic needs such as food, water, and education. A deep belief in human-dignity and freedom as a birthright, as well as in our joint responsibility to become participants in the fight for social equity and justice, have been Dr. Shyamalan's driving force in creating and steering the efforts of the foundation. With an international upbringing and global perspective, Dr. Shyamalan has developed a keen awareness of the power of poverty to determine the life course of individuals, families, and communities by severely limiting opportunity and choice. The foundation leaders work to eliminate those barriers. More recently, Dr. Shyamalan has focused her foundation on helping the most disenfranchised communities; the forgotten and “disposable' people entrapped and exploited by modern day slavery and human trafficking. Although born in India, Bhavna was raised in Hong Kong before her family moved to the U.S. An immigrant herself, Dr. Shyamalan is keenly aware of the challenges posed to immigrants in any new country. Having travelled widely, however, her exposure to different people and cultures has not only reinforced her belief in the gift diversity brings, but also deepened her commitment to valuing each individual life. Dr. Shyamalan oversees the foundation's international grants, the implementation of its vision and mission, strategic growth, fundraising, and overall operations. Additionally, DR. B (as she is known in the fitness world) is co-owner at Vibe Vault Fit, a boutique fitness & wellness studio in PA, and has been teaching Dance Fitness classes since 2011. Dr.B's believes working out can be inspired, and should address health and fitness in all aspects, including body, mind, spirit. In addition to teaching dance fitness classes, Dr. B also manages the “mind” and “spirit” side of Vibe Vault Fit, running workshops, and talking about how to uplift our lives through the Vibe Vault Fit podcasts and blogs. Her vision for Vibe Vault Fit is to promote a warm community, that will walk together toward a healthier, more fulfilling, and extraordinary life. Dr. B sees wellness, like happiness, as a mindset. Her goal is to help you make your own wellness a priority and claim the life that is waiting for you. Earlier in her career, Dr. Shyamalan worked as a therapist in the counseling centers of Swarthmore College and St. Joseph's University. She earned her doctorate in Clinical Developmental Psychology from Bryn Mawr College and her B.A. in psychology from New York University. Home exercisers have a LOT of options to choose from when it comes to dance fitness programs. You can sign up for an on-demand service like Les Mills Plus that has a category of dance workouts, you can head over to YouTube and sign up for a class with a channel like The Fitness Marshall or you can sign up for an app like Everdance. There are some differences in the logistics of using an app vs a program or an on-demand membership library like BOD. Interview was done June 16, 2022! I love meeting new people willing to let me in and share their “lemon to lemonade” experience! This story is about Joseph who knew he was gay at a very young age and found dance as an outlet to keep going when he felt alone. Moving with dance helped him process and take good care of himself because he was getting outside signals that being gay was bad. Joseph now teaches dance to help others discover and love our differences, have a spiritual experience, and to try something new. He encourages you to realize that you are not alone and you will get through whatever you are facing. What message do you get from this interview? So this podcast has old "Original" shows from that time period. It also has "New" shows that are currently being recorded with new guests. The Super Excellent Not Too Serious Bike That Goes Nowhere Podcast
Sheldon had a birthday! We had to get a fire permit for the candles on the cake.... Meredith opens with a recap of a chat she had with a few long time Echelon riders that have, let's say "unique" leaderboard names. We jump right in with our guest, the amazing and inspiring Janet Adams. She gives us the scoop on how fitness became such an important part of who she is and you won't believe what she did to fuel her dedication to fitness when she had a traveling job! We also talk Early morning "Weirdos", what she does to fuel her mornings, and she gives what might be one of the best answers yet to our "Pick a Question" challenge. In connected fitness, lots happening as usual. Hydrow releases a pause feature for On-Demand, and they do it "right". A glitch in the Mother's Day offer for the Peloton Guide gives some folks a REALLY good deal. We talk about "Dance Fitness". Core (Nautilus owner) buys Wexer. Wahoo buys RGT Cycling. And we briefly touch on the world of specialized protein bars. In Echelon news - an article in the Chattanooga Times Free Press: Echelon makes some changes in right sizing some departments; Commercial has been the fastest growing segment; #1 seller by volume has been the treadmill products. We touch on a new "first" for Echelon classes - the 60 minute row class! A whole bucket of shout outs and fun leaderboard names too. We wrap up the show with our "Best, worst movie" survey results and launch a new Snackdown! for next episode!

This may be hard to hear but it has to be said. A basic coach and friend will tell you what you want to hear, a real coach and friend will tell you what you need to hear, and risk pissing you TF off. You've been half-assing your business while convincing yourself that you're really workin' it. Just because your busy doesn't mean you're getting down to business. My brain can be crazy manipulative, convincing me that I'm too tired, that I need to wait, that the circumstances aren't right, that I'll do it tomorrow… Truth is, if we want what we say we want, we prioritize it and find a way do what we need to do today, not tomorrow. What if I told you that if you prioritized your business and went ALL IN on it for the next 6 months, you would for sure be making 2x what you're earning now by the end of 2022? Walking is a brilliant form of exercise but it's often overlooked in favour of running or yoga or HIIT workouts. Because we are exercise sloths and busy women, we're always looking for quick and easy ways to get moving. Have you ever tried Pilates? It's a popular form of exercise that was developed by Joseph Pilates in the early 20th century. It's now a worldwide fitness trend and it's often used as a form of rehabilitation for lower back pain or injury, and recovery after childbirth. Gab and Sarah look at what Pilates actually involves and if it lives up to the hype. Plus, another batshit crazy fitness trend, this time involving Kate Hudson and a bag full of water. How many times have you set yourself a big fitness goal? Did you achieve it? Research shows that having really specific and fixed goals can actually be a deterrent rather than a motivator. In recent years there's been a shift away from the traditional method of goal-setting known as SMART goals (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and timebound); towards a more flexible approach. Gab and Sarah explain the idea behind ‘open goals', and how this is proving to be a more effective way of achieving a fitness target. No matter how hard you try, it can often feel like your fitness isn't improving. It's so disappointing when you've been doing the same workouts over and over and you don't see any progress in your strength, or number of reps, or cardiovascular fitness. Even when you've been consistent with your exercise, sometimes it feels like you've hit a wall and you can't get past it. So what do you do when your progress has stalled? I had the pleasure of getting to chat with none other than Lil Crispy, aka Cristin Caulfield, owner of Caulfield's Dance Fitness in Dallas, Texas. She just opened less than 3 months ago, but she is no newbie to the fitness scene here. She started at Flywheel, then went on to teach at Zyn22 where she developed her own barre/sculpt program. From there she made the leap and started her own dance fitness studio. She's been a dancer for life and she shares a fun fact about a certain celeb she did some choreography for. Cristin is real, raw, funny and super cute— you'll love hearing from her and her honest feedback and advice on what it has taken her to get her studio up and running including how she found her location, how she found her funding, instructors and more. You can find Cristin here: @lilcrispy @caulfieldsdancefit https://www.caulfieldsdancefitness.com/ If you'd like to follow along updates with this podcast, be sure to follow me here: @thefitnessinsiderpodcast For more details on this episode and to see the podcast website, click here.
