Greg Bluestein and Tia Mitchell take on listener questions ahead of Georgia's upcoming runoffs and a special legislative session. They dig into the Rick Jackson ad that leans on Brian Kemp's words without an actual endorsement, and size up how both Republican governor's race candidates are racing to claim the MAGA lane while also courting Kemp's political brand. Greg and Tia also weigh in on Keisha Lance Bottoms and Jon Ossoff's early joint campaigning, what the black women's vote actually delivered for Stacey Abrams in 2018, and how Georgia's leadership committee fundraising law created a money advantage that's still generating legal fights this cycle. Atima Omara — Democratic political strategist, longtime activist, and author of the new book The Instigators — joins the Chuck Toddcast for a wide-ranging conversation about who actually decides American elections, why Democrats keep losing despite favorable demographics, and what a winning coalition looks like in 2028. Omara opens by dismantling the conventional wisdom that white moderate swing voters are the deciding force in elections, arguing that the 2024 contest was lost on mobilization rather than persuasion — Trump won at the margins, not in a landslide, and many blue states were won by surprisingly thin margins. She points out that Kamala Harris was behind before she even started because she had to succeed an unpopular Biden, but they credit Harris with saving three to four Senate seats that Biden would have lost outright. Omara walks through the political leverage Black women in Virginia exercised after the Ralph Northam blackface scandal — pushing for real legislative change rather than just symbolic accountability — and uses that as a case study in how activist coalitions can wield power smartly. The conversation turns to the structural challenges facing the Democratic coalition and what comes next. Omara makes the case that Republican advocacy is a constant, year-round operation while Democrats only mobilize during election years — a fundamental asymmetry that has allowed Republican messaging to dominate the cultural spaces and media ecosystem. She argues the left needs to get dramatically better at cultural messaging, that the activist class has helped Democrats make progress but has also made the party more rigid in ways that hurt it electorally, and that organizations like the Working Families Party are doing important work trying to push the Democratic Party from within. They both reflect on whether the two-party duopoly can survive — Americans clearly want the flexibility of a multiparty system but are stuck with this one. She offers a fascinating cultural analysis of why one-third of the electorate effectively grew up in a non-multiracial democracy, why events like the Tulsa massacre still aren't taught in most public schools, and why the South disproportionately sets the tone for American (and especially Republican) politics. Chuck Todd opens with a sobering analysis of the post-Correspondents' Dinner shooting political climate, arguing that both sides are now busy blaming each other for violent rhetoric while past presidents from both parties always understood their job was to lower the temperature, not raise it. He argues that while Democratic rhetoric has gotten harsher in recent years, Trump is the one who fundamentally changed what was acceptable to say out loud — his January 6th pardons effectively created a permission slip for political violence, and the public barely batted an eye when he celebrated Robert Mueller's death — and warns it only takes one unstable person to take the wrong cue from this environment. He says American politics has become genuinely brutal and violent, that the "cold civil war" is warming up, and that two wrongs don't make a right: just because Trump started this race to the bottom doesn't mean everyone has to engage in it. He then pivots to the Iran war, where he says the U.S. and Iran are measuring the conflict in fundamentally different ways — for the regime, victory is simply surviving — and argues that Iranian control of the Strait of Hormuz has to be addressed before any nuclear threat. He closes with the proposed Florida redistricting map (which looks great for the GOP in a presidential year but terrible in a midterm), a new Texas poll showing Talarico leading both potential GOP nominees, and Susan Collins going negative on Graham Platner before the Maine primary. What does the Democratic Party actually stand for, and can anyone deliver the elevator pitch? Radell Lewis sits down with Pisco, a lawyer turned political streamer from Live and Learn, to break down the identity crisis facing the Democratic coalition. They tackle whether Democrats should lean into populist rhetoric to compete with MAGA, how to handle politically toxic influencers like Hasan Piker and Nick Fuentes, and where the line falls between pragmatic alliance building and dangerous association. From Mamdani's winning campaign blueprint to the reputational math of going on hostile platforms, this episode digs into the real strategic debates Democrats need to have before 2026 and beyond. They also explore the influencer class, the difference between insider and outsider political messaging, and why being "normal and cool" might be the most underrated electoral strategy the left has. Mea Culpa welcomes back Scott Dworkin, Co-Founder and Lead Investigator of the Democratic Coalition and creator and host of The Dworkin Report. Dworkin is a proud member of #TheResistance and his original Dworkin Report helped uncover the Trump-Russia affair with the Democratic Coalition and explained it to a national audience on MSNBC well before Special Counsel Mueller's probe even began. Dworkin served as a Deputy Director for both the 2009 Presidential Inaugural Committee and 2012 Democratic National Convention. Scott was also a Senior Advisor on both the Draft Biden and Run Warren Run campaigns. Michael and Scott dig deep into the Supreme Court, January 6th and Clarence Thomas.
It's Tuesday, January 27th, A.D. 2026. This is The Worldview in 5 Minutes heard on 140 radio stations and at www.TheWorldview.com. I'm Adam McManus. (Adam@TheWorldview.com) By Kevin Swanson Iran Int'l News reports 36,500 protestors killed by Islamic regime As The Worldview reported yesterday, the latest report of the death count for the recent Iranian protests is now at 36,500, according to Iran International News. (audio of Iranian officials shooting unarmed protestors) This information reportedly comes from Interior Ministry documents. The government carried out 4,000 clashes at various locations around the country over a two-day period earlier in the month. Iran's Health Ministry also revealed that the hospitals in the country performed 13,000 surgeries following the protests. Iran's internet blackout is going into its 19th day today. Iran International also reports that government officials are still carrying out “extrajudicial killings, deaths under torture, and the systematic mistreatment of detainees and their families.” Several of our sources have reported multiple Christians killed in the conflict. Communist Chinese president purged military generals China's President and Communist Party General Secretary Xi Jinping has completed his purge of military generals, beginning with top brass Zhang Youxia and at least 17 other generals, reports NTDTV.com. The Economist called this “the largest political purge of the military's top ranks since Mao Zedong's death in 1976.” Assaults on ICE officers increased by 1,300% in 2025 over 2024 Public protests are increasing in the United States. Last year, the Crowd Counting Consortium counted 10,700 protests in the U.S. That's a 133% increase over 2024. So far this month, there have been 628 protests, the largest of which have centered in Minnesota, Illinois, and California. Disturbingly, the protests have increased in violence. The Department of Homeland Security recently reported a 1,300% increase in assaults against I.C.E. officers in 2025 (over the previous year), and a 3,200% increase in vehicular attacks. Rest assured, where human justice may fail, Ecclesiastes 12:14 assures us that “God shall bring every work into judgment, including every secret thing, whether it be good or whether it be evil.” Shooting death of Minneapolis man sparks gun control debate The January 24th fatal shooting of Alex Pretti in Minneapolis by law enforcement has sparked a debate on gun control. Apparently, the protester was armed at the time of his encounter with the I.C.E. agent. Assistant U.S. Attorney Bill Essayli took to X, commenting that, "If you approach law enforcement with a gun, there is a high likelihood they will be legally justified in shooting you." However, the pro-gun group, the National Rifle Association, said, "Responsible public voices should be awaiting a full investigation, not making generalizations and demonizing law-abiding citizens.” Plus, Gun Owners for America noted, "The Second Amendment protects Americans' right to bear arms while protesting ‒ a right the federal government must not infringe upon." GOP Rep. Thomas Massie and Barack Obama weigh in on ICE killing GOP U.S. Rep. Thomas Massie of Kentucky also jumped into the fray. He said, ”Carrying a firearm is not a death sentence; it's a Constitutionally-protected, God-given right. And, if you don't understand this, you have no business in law enforcement or government." No comment from the liberal media on Mr. Pretti's choice to carry a gun to the protest. Then, former President Barack Obama took to X on Sunday to encourage the American public to “support and draw inspiration from” what he calls “the peaceful protests in Minneapolis.” Satan worshippers thank Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz Speaking of Minnesota, Republican State Representative Pam Altendorf revealed on video a disturbing display recognizing Satan in the state Capitol. ALTENDORF: “As I was leaving my committee meeting today here earlier, I noticed that there is a new display here at the State Capitol, and it's for Governor [Tim] Walz.” The inscription says, “The Democratic Coalition of Satan Worshippers thanks Gov. Tim Walz for not standing in the way of spreading Satanism in the state Capitol building.” Rep. Altendorf concluded with this. ALTENDORF: “Yes, everyone, this is true. I am live, not making this up. You can't make this up. (laughs) I don't know why a governor of a state would want this plaque, but there it is. “The Satan worshipers have thanked Governor Tim Walz, and let me repeat this. The last line says, ‘Satan has a special place for you.' I'm speechless.” In Exodus 20:3, God revealed to Moses atop Mt. Sinai, “You shall have no other gods before Me.” Charismatic leader accused of “fabricated” prophecies and sexual sin The charismatic church is taking more hits from reports concerning alleged scandalous activities of a homosexual nature. Shawn Bolz was platformed by Bethel over a period of ten years. Bethel leadership now admits to have continued platforming Bolz despite their knowing of his “fabricated” prophecies and alleged sexual sin, reports CBN News. Multiple Christian news organizations have headlined this new revelation in an ongoing series of scandals in the evangelical/charismatic church involving Bill Hybels, Carl Lentz, Mike Bickel, Brian Houston, T.D. Jakes, Jim and Tammy Faye Bakker, and Jimmy Swaggart. The deluge of scandals has taken its toll on the nation. Public trust in pastors here is now the lowest in recorded history. According to Lifeway Research, only 27% of Americans say they have a high trust in pastors, down from an average of 56% between 2000 and 2009. Here's a reminder from 1 Corinthians 11:31 and 32. “If we would judge ourselves, we would not be judged. The State of Texas has become the GOP's authoritarian blue print for America. Michael discusses how SB8 and the rash of illiberal legislation is all about elections. Mainly the GOP's ability to steal them through gerrymandering and pack the statehouses with super majorities to pass this kind of garbage in the first place. Its heinous and awful and it sure ain't democracy. Later, Scott Dworkin, founder and Executive Director of the Democratic Coalition describes the nightmare scenario for America if the Dems lose the House in 2022 and much, much more. 8. Hoover, FDR, and the Lessons of Wilson's Failure David Pietrusza 1920: The Year of the Six Presidents Herbert Hoover, known as the "great engineer," chose the Republican Party, disliking the Democratic coalition of Southern segregationists and radicals. Hoover was systematic but lacked the public warmth necessary for effective leadership, a deficiency that proved costly during the Great Depression. Franklin D. Roosevelt, becoming governor in 1928, became more empathetic and politically calculating following his polio diagnosis in 1921. He mastered new media like radio to communicate effectively with the public. FDR eventually supported repealing Prohibition, shifting from his earlier focus on modification. Learning from Wilson's failure to pass the Versailles Treaty, FDR ensured the United Nations' success by consulting with Republicans and building a cross-party coalition. 1929 HOOVER PARADE

It's been a week since the election and why Americans voted to send Donald Trump back to the White House is beginning to come into focus. The entire Holy Post team—Phil, Skye, Kaitlyn, and Esau—is here to talk about why Trump won and how Harris lost. Was it the economy? Was it racism and misogyny? Was it identity politics or disinformation in the media? Everyone has a theory. Then New York Times columnist and Holy Post regular, David French, is back to give his take on the election. He explains why Kamala Harris's decision to focus on abortion backfired, and why January 6 did not disqualify Trump for most Americans. 0:00 - Intro 1:21 - Theme Song 1:42 - Sponsor - Glorify - Sign up for the #1 Christian Daily Devotional App to help you stay focused on God. It's Casual Friday! Sam and Emma speak with Jeet Heer, writer at The Nation, to round up the week in news. First, Sam and Emma run through updates on the US' unilateral goals for the people of Palestine, the continued attacks on medical and refugee infrastructure in Gaza, the continuing backlash to the US' role in this conflict, SAG-AFTRA board meetings, a victory for the Culinary Union in Vegas, and Mike Johnson's not-so-continuing resolution, before parsing through the devastating (and still foggy) realities of the growing death toll in Gaza. Jeet Heer then joins, diving right into his assessment of the “guns and butter” agenda of the Biden Administration, and how it compares to the blueprints laid out by FDR and LBJ – for better or for worse. Next, Heer tackles the shotty footing of the Biden campaign one year out from election day, and how his backing of the ethnic cleansing of Gaza has weakened it further as various elements of his coalition – particularly among young, and Black and Brown Americans – begin to crumble. After parsing through the complete disconnect between the US political class and their voters, and the terrifying impact it could have, Jeet, Sam and Emma walk through the particularly out-of-touch doctrine of the GOP as Mike Johnson becomes perhaps the second most powerful theocrat in recent US history. And in the Fun Half: Sam and Emma watch Shawn Fain reflect on the UAW's incredible fight, Joe Manchin step back from reelection, and assess the biggest races heading into 2024. Michael Knowles theocrats all over himself, Dylan in Kentucky discusses the future of McConnell's seat, Timmy from Nebraska asks about Iran, and Ross from NY vents his frustrations with US politicians. The MR Crew discusses the internal backlash within US politics to the complete alignment of the political class with Israel's ethnic cleansing, and bears witness to the horrors of a Jordan Peterson music video, plus, your calls and IMs! This is the final installment in our special series of conversations with teachers, organizers, scholars, and activists in Wisconsin that Max, Cameron Granadino (TRNN), and Hannah Faris (In These Times) recorded in the summer of 2021 as part of a special collaboration between The Real News Network and In These Times magazine. To round out the series, we drive straight into the heart of darkness with an in-depth discussion with veteran educators and organizers Frank Emspak and Adrienne Pagac about the passage of Act 10 in Wisconsin under Republican Governor Scott Walker, the statewide protests against it, and the devastation that it has left in Wisconsin for the past 11 years. Frank is Professor Emeritus at the University of Wisconsin-Madison School for Workers and a labor activist based in Madison, Wisconsin. He is a regular contributor to WORT Labor Radio, Progressive Magazine, and a range of other media outlets. Adrienne is a scholar, organizer, and former co-president of the Teaching Assistants Association. The statewide protests against Act 10, known as the Wisconsin Uprising, comprised one of the largest sustained collective actions in the history of the United States, and anyone who was there in 2011 will attest to the collective spirit of resistance and solidarity that the uprising embodied, and the lasting impact it left on all who participated. But the protests were ultimately unsuccessful in beating back Act 10, and the short and long term effects of its passage have been a disaster for working people and organized labor. How did this coordinated assault on labor come to pass in Wisconsin? And what lessons can the rest of us around the country learn from the 50-year war on workers that has changed the state of Wisconsin for generations? Additional links/info below... Just over ten years ago, the landscape for workers' rights and organized labor in the state of Wisconsin changed dramatically with the passage of Act 10 under Republican Governor Scott Walker in 2011. Act 10 was a hammer blow to the labor movement that essentially stripped collective bargaining rights from public sector workers, made it much more difficult for workers to organize, and forced unions to take massive concessions on healthcare, retirement benefits, and much more. Soon after, in 2015, Walker signed legislation that turned Wisconsin into a “right to work” state, issuing another blow to unions in a state once heralded as a bellwether of the labor movement. But all hope is not lost. In the wake of this coordinated assault on workers and unions, many are using the tools available to them to build up their communities and rebuild working-class power in Wisconsin. This is precisely what we have been investigating in our special series of conversations with teachers, organizers, scholars, and activists in Wisconsin that Max, Cameron Granadino (TRNN), and Hannah Faris (In These Times) recorded in the summer of 2021 as part of a special collaboration between The Real News Network and In These Times magazine. In the latest installment in this series, we talk with Maricela Aguilar Monroy, an undocumented educator and organizer who has spent most of her life in Milwaukee and is working to strengthen the community that has provided a home for her so it can continue to provide a home for others. Holy cow, this is Working People's 200th episode! Thank you to everyone who has listened to and supported us over the past five seasons—and, of course, thank you to every guest who has ever come on the show to share their story. To commemorate our 200th regular-season episode, we have a special installment of our series of conversations with teachers, organizers, scholars, and activists in Wisconsin that Max, Cameron Granadino (TRNN), and Hannah Faris (In These Times) recorded in the summer of 2021 as part of a special collaboration between The Real News Network and In These Times magazine. In this episode, we talk with longtime artist, activist, and registered nurse Susan Simensky Bietila in Milwaukee. Hearkening back to the episodes we published in the first season of Working People, this is an extended conversation that traces the incredible, winding path that Sue has taken in life, from growing up in the projects in New York to drawing and collaging for The Guardian, the radical US newsweekly, during the height of the Vietnam War, to protesting at the Wisconsin State Capitol in 2011 during the Wisconsin Uprising. We continue our series on the struggles of teachers and public sector unions in the state of Wisconsin today. As part of a special collaboration between The Real News Network and In These Times magazine for “The Wisconsin Idea,” Max, Cameron Granadino (TRNN), and Hannah Faris (In These Times) traveled to Wisconsin in the summer of 2021. From Madison to Appleton, they spoke to a range of educators, organizers, scholars, and activists who are fighting to rebuild worker power after the devastating passage of Act 10 in 2011 under Republican Governor Scott Walker, and nearly 50 years after cops, townspeople, and a union-busting school board broke the infamous Hortonville teachers' strike in 1974. In this interview, recorded in the town of Hortonville, Max sits down with scholars Harvey J. Kaye and Jon Shelton to discuss the historical significance of Act 10, the Wisconsin Uprising, and the Hortonville strike that set the stage for them decades earlier, and to examine how these crucial events fit into the larger historical trajectory of the labor movement and progressive politics in Wisconsin. Harvey J. Kaye is Professor Emeritus of Democracy & Justice Studies and the Director of the Center for History and Social Change at the University of Wisconsin, Green Bay; he is also the author of many books, including Thomas Paine and the Promise of America and Take Hold of Our History: Make America Radical Again. Jon Shelton is Associate Professor and Chair of Democracy and Justice studies at UW Green Bay, and he is the author of Teacher Strike! In today's "best of MIP" espiode, Scott Dworkin, who is also Founder and Executive Director of the Democratic Coalition and host of podcast “The Dworkin Report,” is here to download us on all sorts of strategy and analysis of what's up ahead for 2022 and 2024. He shares that it's believed Trump plans to announce a 2024 run early next year, before primary season, for one specific reason--but could that help Democrats in the long-run? Scott also shares his biggest concerns for 2022, and fills us in on a key race in Virginia, where Terry McAuliffe is back for another run. Breaking from the future to look at the past, Scott explains why Mike Pence is an accomplice to the January 6th insurrection. And Scott also share why he thinks Facebook going out of service was a self-inflicted wound to distract from the whistleblower news, and why he doesn't think Mark Zuckerberg will be running Facebook this time next year.
Amanda and Ashley talk about what's up with Texas, Biden Agenda, and COVID overhang. Special Guest: Ashley Allison.

The National Democratic Coalition has written to President Muhammadu Buhari over the rising security challenges in the country and canvassed as a panacea, the return to the 1960 and 1963 Constitutions to replace the extant 1999 grundnorm, which it said the military imposed on Nigerians. The pro-democracy group pressed for the suspension of further elections until the country gets a new constitution.NADECO, in the letter to the president, accused him of fuelling secessionist agitations through the Fulanisation policy of his administration and its disregard for the constitution. It also decried the deterioration of national security and political instability under Buhari's administration.
James Aldrete comes out of a family political tradition with one foot in the world of radical Tejano politics of the 50s and 60s - and one foot in the Democratic establishment. As a political professional, he's merged those strands to start his own firm (MAP) based in Austin, TX and become a leading voice within the Democratic party on communications and messaging, with a focus on Hispanic engagement and media. In this conversation, James talks cutting his teeth in Texas politics for Governors Mark White and Ann Richards, building his own media firm over the past 20+ years, working in multiple presidential campaigns, and his thoughts on the changing way to communicate with a diversifying coalition of voters.Podcast WebsiteTwitter: @ProPoliticsPodTwitter: @ZacMcCraryFacebook: The Pro Politics PodcastIN THIS EPISODEJames grows up with one foot in Texas and one foot in DC…James' family roots in both radical politics and establishment politics…James remembers leading lights of the Hispanic community coming through for dinners at his house…James' interns at the Lloyd Bentsen-era DSCC…The 1986 Mark White Governor's campaign gives James his first political network…James' memories working for Ann Richards' 1990 campaign…How James grows his business after hanging up his own shingle in the mid 90s…James experience working for Obama 2008 media team…James best practices of communicating with Hispanic voters…James talks Trump's 2020 performance with Hispanic voters…The Santa Fe Mayoral Race that meant a lot to James…AND Kirk Adams, Sharron Angle, David Axelrod, Lloyd Bentsen, Fabian Chavez, Matthew Dowd, Kida de la Garza, Harris Diamond, the GI Forum, Dave Gold, Javier Gonzales, Charlie Gonzalez, Henry Gonzalez, Larry Grisolano, Luis Guiterrez, Jane Hedgepeth, Dwayne Holman, Ruben Hinojosa, Hubert Humphrey, Kathleen Hall Jamieson, Felix Longoria, Jim Margolis, Mark McKinnon, Ruben Montoya, Dick Morris, George Rakis, Harry Reid, Ann Richards, Cecile Richards, Eliot Richardson, Ciro Rodgriguez, George Sanchez, John Sayles, Bob Squier, Raymond Strother, Russ Tidwell, Mark White, Isabel Wilkerson, Ralph Yarborough….and more!Podcast WebsiteTwitter: @ProPoliticsPodTwitter: @ZacMcCraryFacebook: The Pro Politics Podcast

Also on the topic of Trump, and the insurrection he helped fuel, Scott tells us why the GOP should have never ousted Liz Cheney because of her position on the events of January 6th, and why he thinks most people are missing a key detail that makes her an incredibly powerful figure. Scott also shares his thoughts on the 2022 midterms, including where he’s feeling optimistic and why he thinks we have no better option than the unfortunate Joe Manchin right now. What were the shifts in the 2020 election? Why was the polling so off? How did the coalitions change? As the dust settles, and we can dive into official numbers, a clearer picture is forming of what actually happened during this election cycle. The Democrats may have won the 2020 presidential election with historic victories in southern states ranging from Georgia to Arizona, but have they created the kind of interracial labor coalition required to win the ongoing economic and ideological battles that did not end on election day? Historian Max Krochmal, author of “Blue Texas: The Making of a Multiracial Democratic Coalition in the Civil Rights Era” sees a lot of unfulfilled potential to bring young social movement organizations into the mainstream of American politics. Scott talks with Gale Anne Hurd, the legendary Hollywood producer behind cultural touchstones like the Walking Dead franchise on television as well as the Terminator and Alien movies. Hurd told us about her impending launch of the third Walking Dead series in 2020, and about major developments in the Terminator franchise because a relatively new copyright law will give control back to her and James Cameron, its co-creators for the first time in decades. But her most poignant words had to do with the fight for gender equity in entertainment and empowering individuals, which is a central theme of her life’s work. For the first time, most of us heard Robert Mueller speak today as he announced the official end of his investigation and the closing of the Special Counsel's office. He also said that his report speaks for itself and that ""If we had had confidence that the president clearly did not commit a crime, we would have said so." The Washington Post's Greg Sargent joins in at the top of the show to discuss what happens next. Then we'll check in with Scott Dworkin of the Democratic Coalition and the Dworkin Report to talk about the 2020 field of contenders.

It’s the annual Christmas episode, and our sweaty President Donald Trump is on the show telling your children that believing in Santa is for babies. On the other side of the aisle, we also have Scott Dworkin and the Democratic Coalition here to wish them a very Mueller Christmas. You may actually want to cover their ears for that one. As it is every Christmas, Boomers really had a week. Joe Biden yelled at the youth for complaining about the bleakest economic landscape since the Great Depression, and formally accused sex creep Kevin Spacey reprised his role as Frank Underwood and threatened all of us while doing his dishes. We’ll also discuss the notion of civic duty and public servitude through Notorious RBG’s teleworking from her cancer treatment bed and Trump’s completely justifiable fear of serving in the Vietnam War. You’re listening to a couple of Jews talk about Christmas, so we obviously have movies to discuss, including Vice, Aquaman, Divide and Conquer: The Story of Roger Ailes, and The Clinton Affair; we also have our first impressions of the trailer for Jordan Peele’s Us to share with you. For storytime, Dan will tell the tale of the terminally first world injuries he has sustained in the past few weeks. Scott reveals the Democratic Coalition's latest report (embedded below) about Sen. Lindsey Graham's (R-SC) Russian-linked donors and his role in accepting illegal foreign campaign donations funneled into his senatorial campaigns by the CEO of a virology research company who is now serving more than seven years in federal prison for the scheme. Graham helped the CEO obtain $19.6 million in spending earmarks, but the company has since folded after wasting millions on lobbying expenses and a real estate deal instead of research. Scott slams the California Republican who has been working overtime to derail Mueller’s Russia probe to help Trump. Rep. Devin Nunes (R-CA) is back defending himself in another House Ethics investigation, based on the winery business relationship that we exposed with the Democratic Coalition last year. The House GOP Intel chairman Nunes materially omitted another one of his company holdings entirely off his financial disclosure forms. A Congressional ethics watchdog just filed a new complaint against the House Republican for that omission, and because of the tawny Napa winery which he part-owns has done a lot more than just the one business deal with Russia which it has adamantly stated was solely a one-off transaction. The Nunes complaint asks Congress to investigate the Alpha Omega Winery’s high-seas sex party with underage girls on a large yacht off the California coast. --- Support this podcast: https://anchor.fm/dworkinreport/support

Blue Texas: The Making of a Multiracial Democratic Coalition in the Civil Rights Era (University of North Carolina Press, 2016) is about the “other” Texas, not the state known for its cowboy conservatism, but a mid-twentieth-century hotbed of community organizing, liberal politics, and civil rights activism. Beginning in the 1930s, the author tells the story of the decades-long struggle for democracy in Texas, when African American, Mexican American, and white labor and community activists gradually came together to empower the states marginalized minorities. At the ballot box and in the streets, these diverse activists demanded not only integration but economic justice, labor rights, and real political power for all. Their efforts gave rise to the Democratic Coalition of the 1960s, a militant, multiracial alliance that would take on and eventually overthrow both Jim Crow and Juan Crow. Using rare archival sources and original oral history interviews, historian Max Krochmal reveals the often-overlooked democratic foundations and liberal tradition of one of our nation’s most conservative states. Blue Texas recalls the many forgotten activists who, by crossing racial lines and building coalitions, democratized their cities and state to a degree that would have been unimaginable just a decade earlier and shows why their story still matters today. Max Krochmal is an associate professor of history and founding director of Comparative Race and Ethnic Studies at Texas Christian University. Krochmal is also the founder and director of the Civil Rights in Black and Brown Oral History Project, a statewide collaborative research initiative and digital humanities website that received a collaborative research grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities. His research and teaching center on African American and Chicano/a-Latino/a civil rights and labor histories and their present-day ramifications. Krochmal is a native of Reno, Nevada, and attended undergraduate at the University of California at Santa Cruz before earning his M.A. and Ph.D. from Duke University. James P. This episode is a live taping we did with PRINCETON historian Matt Karp. Matt talks about Frederick Douglas, the Civil War, the inspiration he takes from the periodic over throw of the ruling class, themistake the Dems make in courting woke Goldman Sachs, and the value of "Bernie Would have Won". Matt's analysis of the Kansas special election is especially relevant to Ossoff's loss.
