DIRECTOR'S STATEMENT “For my first feature I wanted to make something interesting, funny, and heartfelt with a real independent film sensibility similar to films I loved growing up in the 80s and 90s. I see the film as an anti-rom com of sorts and wanted it to feel timeless. The casting was crucial to create the tone of the film and the characters that drive the story. The entire cast was amazing to work with. It felt like a never-ending summer camp on set. I hope that the audience is entertained, amused, touched and most of all enjoy the ride before it's over.” Filmmaker Daniel André   FILMMAKER BIOGRAPHY Daniel André is a filmmaker, artist, and music producer born in Cuernavaca, Mexico and raised in NJ, just outside New York City. Mr. André started acting at the age of five and trained in Stanislavski at age nine, working professionally in theater, television, and film throughout his teens. Mr. André studied Film and Media Arts at the University of Arizona and Pima College in Tucson, AZ, and has a degree in Film & Digital Arts. In 2022 under his own Analog 77 Films, Mr. André wrote, produced, and directed RUNNING ON EMPTY starring Keir Gilchrist, Lucy Hale (The Hating Game), Jim Gaffigan (Linoleum), Rhys Coiro (Entourage), Francesca Eastwood (Old), Monica Potter (Parenthood), Jay Pharoah (SNL) and more. Currently, Daniel is working on his next film THE LAST WILL with GMT FILMS, a biopic based on the memoir, “CURED- The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys” by Lol Tolhurst, one of the founding members of The Cure and a biopic about the life of African American author Iceberg Slim.   SYNOPSIS Keir Gilchrist, Lucy Hale, Francesca Eastwood, and comic legend Jim Gaffigan star in a brilliantly quirky romantic comedy about celebrating life and living it to its fullest. Mortimer is an odd but clever young man living a lukewarm existence in California's San Fernando Valley until he receives some life-changing news. Determined to make the most of every day, Mort sets out on a spirited quest to find meaning in his existence and discovers the girl of his dreams along the way.   IG: Written and Directed by @daniel_andre_la Cinematography by @klammer Production Design by @ryan_kaercher3 Property Master @senorschaffer Set Dressing by @msbezu Costume Design by @2undercovertourists   Stay connected with me on socials: https://www.chonacas.com/links/ Leave a 5-star review and share this valuable episode with someone special.

Planet LP host Ted Asregadoo and Popdose writer Keith Creighton are inching closer to the end of the year with the November New Music Report. This episode is jam-packed with some stellar music recommendations just in time for the holidays. Segment One: The Big Album It's Prince! Known at various times as The Purple One, Christopher, His Royal Badness, The Artist, or Jamie Starr, Prince was at the top of his game between 1980 and 1987 with an impressive music output that few in the music world could match. Why? Because of The Vault. A prolific writer, Prince vaulted roughly 8,000 songs.  In 1991, after a series of lackluster albums, Prince released “Diamonds and Pearls” with his new backing band, the New Power Generation. The result was his fifth (and final) #1 hit in the US with “Cream,” a #3 hit with the title track, and two top 20 hits with “Gett Off” and Money Don't Matter 2 Night.” Overall, “Diamonds and Pearls” was an absolute commercial success for Prince.   On October 27, 2023, Sony released a super deluxe version with three CDs of vaulted tracks, a double live album, a remaster of the original record, and a disc with singles and different mixes. That's a lot of music, and Ted and Keith break it all down into digestible bits to highlight what's brilliant about the super deluxe edition, what's good, and what misses the mark.   Segment Two: New Music Releases The Transcanada Highwaymen's “Explosive Hits Vol #1 is mostly a carefully curated album of cover songs popular in the 1970s. These are Mellow and Radio Gold songs sung by a supergroup consisting of Moe Berry from The Pursuit of Happiness, Chris Murphy from Sloan, Craig Morthey from Odds, and Steven Page formerly of the Barenaked Ladies, but has gone on to a fantastic solo career. Featured songs include their cover of Andy Kim's “Rock Me Gently, and “Which Way You Goin' Billy” by The Poppy Family. Samples of both songs are embedded in this episode.  Lol Tolhurst (former drummer from The Cure), Budgie (from Siouxsie & The Banshees), and producer Jackknife Lee have created a cinematic mindscrew of an album entitled “Los Angles.”  Orchestral Maneuvers in the Dark are back with what will likely be the final album of their career, and boy what a way to go out! Nowhere on the record are songs that sound like their biggest US hit, “If You Leave.” Rather, as Keith says, this is a soundtrack for the end of the world. Ted compares “Bauhaus Staircase” to Tears for Fears' “The Tipping Point” for its strength, its familiarity at times, and the satisfying way it's all put together. Duran Duran is back with Dance Macabre, a Halloween-theme mashup of covers, updated obscure deep cuts, and some originals. Also, guitarist Andy Taylor returns to the group, and so does the drummer of 17 years with the band, Warren Cuccrullo.  If you want to go on a journey with a musician who is a bit of an acquired taste, give Christian Kjellvander a try. “Hold Your Love Still” may not be for everyone, but once you become familiar with Kjellvander's voice, you'll find this record mesmerizing — as you will hear. Nat Jay's latest EP, “Turns Out It's Not The End” is one of Keith's favorites this year. Comparing her to an outlier star to Taylor Swift's galaxy-consuming supernova, Jay's song “Something More” could have been included in the new Hunger Games soundtrack — and you'll be able to hear why. Shplang! has been on the music scene for almost three decades, and is part of the International Pop Overthrow scene. Their latest song, “Understood” is featured in this episode.  Segment Three: Stream It Before You Buy It Quick hit recommendations. "Pretty Vicious" by The Struts “Telephone Line” by Juliana Hatfield “New Blue Sun” by Andre 3000 “Revisions of Truth” by One Square Mile “Chronicles of a Diamond” by Black Pumas “Can't Find The Brakes” by Dirty Honey “Purple Rain” by Dolly Parton “Harridan” (Live) by Porcupine Tree

You might know The Cure's song “A Strange Day,” defined by its spooky guitar licks, eerie drone loops and funeral march drum beats. But Lol Tolhurst, the band's co-founder, former drummer and keyboardist, says the song is not all doom and death. Rather, it's a shining example of Goth, which Tolhurst calls the “last true alternative outsider subculture.” Goth music inherited the anarchy of punk but substituted nihilism with a desire to fully feel, talk about and confess our emotions. And Tolhurst argues that the Cure — along with Bauhaus, the Doors and Siouxsie and the Banshees — helped pioneer its sound. We talk to Tolhurst about his new book “Goth” and the subculture's music and aesthetics, and we'll hear from you: Are — or were — you Goth? What does Goth mean to you? Guests: Lol Tolhurst, musician and writer; one of the co-founders of English rock band the Cure; author "Cured: The Tale of Two Imaginary Boys" and the new book "Goth: A History"

Broken Record with Rick Rubin, Malcolm Gladwell, Bruce Headlam and Justin Richmond

Lol Tolhurst, drummer and co-founder of The Cure, first met lead singer Robert Smith when they were just five years-old. Together with their other Catholic school friend Michael Dempsey, they would go on to make dark, brooding music that reflected the isolation they felt as the only punks living in their small English town. As The Cure's sound developed in the 1980s, they released a string of three albums that Lol now defines as the band's “goth period.” Today we'll hear Lol talk in detail about making those albums. Last month Lol released the book “Goth: A History,” which explores the architects of the post-punk genre—bands like Siouxsie and the Banshees, Joy Division, and Bauhaus. In addition to his book “Goth,” Lol is also releasing a new album with his old friend Budgie, the drummer from the Banshees. The album's called Los Angeles and it features an all-star guest list including U2's The Edge and LCD Soundsystem's James Murphy. Then we're reminded of the dark times when John Parr pitches up to do a film advert. But then! It's a double-barrelled blast of Our Bands, as the Smiths are forced to do a video, and Lol Tolhurst stinks out a wardrobe. And them some bloke starts going about thinking he's Prince. Simon Jones - And Also the Trees - in conversation with David Eastaugh  https://www.andalsothetrees.co.uk The band made their live debut on 12 January 1980 at Grieg Memorial Hall in Alcester. A home demo tape was sent to The Cure, who were looking for support bands on their tour, leading to a friendship between the two bands. In 1981, And Also the Trees played several shows in support of The Cure'sUK tour. Their second demo tape, From Under the Hill (1982), was partly co-produced by Robert Smith and Mike Hedges. Graham Havas was replaced at this time by Steven Burrows. In 1983, the band released their first single, "Shantell", which was produced by The Cure's Lol Tolhurst. Their second single, "The Secret Sea", followed in 1984 and was also produced by Tolhurst. Tolhurst also produced their debut studio album, And Also the Trees, which was released in February 1984. The band received the attention of BBC Radio 1 DJ John Peel, and were invited to do a session in April 1984, which was produced by Dale Griffin for broadcast on 24 April.
